- "Absolutely loved our time here! Can't wait to come back !❤️" - "The plan was to see the peak of the Perseid meteor showers near the International Dark Sky Park. Even if the weather turned out to be overcast or raining, it would still be a couple of days at the beach, right? We got that. We got ALL that. We also lucked out, and got the Northern Lights. Plus the wonders of the beach, plus the sound of the waves, plus deeply relaxing time with favorite people I don’t get to see very often. It was such a treat!!! Will (the owner) dropped by a couple of times (trash cans out, trash cans back in) and was friendly and helpful. It’s a sweet spot. Just do it! . "

- "Everything was perfect" - "The nook is just perfect. It has plenty of space for everyone. We were 13 and never felt squeezed throughout the week. It is super clean and the kitchen is very well equiped (for true, not like some other places where you only have the very basics...). The kids had a lot of fun in the game room. The yard is huge, we even played baseball (with the kids obviously, still too small for grown-ups !) The property is well situated in a quiet neighbourhood. The state park has some nice trails but they did not allowed swimming some days while it was in the national park just beside. So we headed to the national park most of the time. There is a bike path to the state park but none to the national park. However if you go by bike, the state park passe only lets 1 person in and you need to pay for each person. If you go by car, everyone in the car will get in with the same pass. So we ended up leaving the bikes behind for that. There are other bike trails but we didn't explore much. If you want to spend a lot of time in Chicago, it might be a bit far but still feasible. It was not the case for us, we stayed close most of the time. All in all, a very fun week. The nook was even better than expected. It is a sure call to rent here !"

- "Beautiful and clean property. Relaxing weekend getaway for a family!" - "We had a wonderful time! The place is very nice with beautiful views! We had fun using the kayaks and paddle boards. The beach is expansive and clean. We hiked the 3 dune challenge (not for the faint of heart) and enjoyed nearby restaurants. The ceilings are low -- my husband (6' 2") really felt this." - "My family enjoyed the stay! Thank you!" - "We took a family vacation here with our 6 and almost 3 year old. The kids had a great time playing on the beach and I loved how close the house was to the beach. The view of the lake from the dinner table was so refreshing, just what our hearts needed. The best part was even though there were other properties near by, we didn’t feel like we were right on top of each other (despite being in the basement unit!). My only “complaint” is that being in the basement unit, our allergies flared up. But we did come prepared with our allergy medicine and if we hadn’t, a grocery store and pharmacy were a short drive away."

SAFETY NOTES:
1. This home is NOT baby-proofed. (I do not have outlet blockers, no furniture is strapped to walls, stairs do not have gates, there are no safety locks on cabinets, etc.) Some windows are low to the ground where curious kids could easily get out. Children must be accompanied by adults at all times, and guests are responsible for the safety of their children.
2. Guests must be able to climb stairs to access the apartment, as there are stairs up to the front door. Those who are not able bodied may not be able to easily navigate the home; although the house was updated in 2024, the age of the house does not render it handicap equipped.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
While I am happy to welcome guests of all backgrounds, I will only be accepting booking requests from:
--AirBnB users who are "verified" and who already have multiple positive reviews from other hosts. (A fully refundable $500 security deposit is required from guests who have no reviews. - "This house was perfect for us! The neighborhood was great for morning walks and was very quaint. The house is decorated beautifully and had all the space we needed. My kids enjoyed playing in the big backyard and the outdoor seating areas were wonderful! The house was very clean. The only thing that could be improved on was that it looked like someone had let their pet do its business on some of the decking and didn’t clean up after them. That being said there was no evidence of pet messes inside the house. When we visit again next year we will definitely check to see if this house is available!"

We have been hosting this listing for over 3 years on another popular platform with over 500 reviews averaging 4.85 stars. We are excited to now offer the Pool Barn on many platforms. We are glad you found us!
***We are taking the extra precaution to sanitize everything between every stay***
Please read this full description and 'House Rules" prior to booking.
IndianaDunes website is a great resource for why visit our area. The Indiana Dunes State Park and Indiana Dunes National Park have over 3.5 million visitors each year!
The Pool Barn
We built a 35x70 pole barn and finished half as additional garage space and the other half as a recreation space. Then we added a 20x40 in-ground heated pool, hot tub, gas grill, shaded picnic area, swings, slide, treehouse, and campfire area. We also have cornhole bag toss for outside. Our Camper is also in the driveway. It is listed separately as "The Pool Barn Camper". Outside spaces are shared with our family and the Camper guests.
The Pool Barn inside is ONE BIG SPACE of about 1200 sq ft. It includes a full bath/shower. There is a full-size kitchen with stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and Keurig. The kitchen is stocked with cookware, dinnerware, and silverware. We have 5 regular queen size beds, 5 of which are set up all the time and 1 spare. It is all one big open space that in addition to the kitchen and beds also includes 2 large couches and TV, movies, stereo speakers, wifi, darts, ping pong, pool table, air hockey, foosbal, golf putting, and basketball pop a shot. The inside of the Pool Barn is all yours. It is private during your stay. Our home is a separate building on property.
The pool has several loungers. It is only 5 foot at the deepest so not suited for diving, but great for children, water volleyball and just relaxing throughout. We have floaties, goggles, and snorkels too. The pool area has night lighting while enjoying an evening swim. The Hot Tub is open and enjoyable 365 days a year! We provide bath towels. It is a good idea to bring your own towel for the pool, hot tub, and beach.
The campfire area has plenty of seating space and abundant firewood available at no additional charge. If we are home we'll even get it started for you. As a matter of respect for our family, neighbors, and Camper guests, all must remain inside during outside quiet hours of 10pm to 8am.
Bring your bikes! We are on the Duneland Prairie Bike Trail. Great trails next door in the Indiana Dunes National Park for hiking or running too.
Guest access
The Pool Barn is separate from our home with keypad lock so you have private access to come and go as you please. The Pool Barn driveway is at 210 Howe Rd, Porter IN 46304. It will be ready and unlocked for you at time of check-in. The inside is all yours. Remember that all outside amenities are shared with our family and guests and the guests in the Pool Barn Camper. Outside amenities are open from 8am to 10pm.
Other things to note
This is our home and we live in a residential area. We strictly enforce outside quiet hours. Outside amenities are closed 10pm to 8am out of respect and consideration for our family and neighbors. All must remain inside during quiet hours. Inside you can play music, games, talk and laugh and stay up all night if you'd like as long all remain inside and doors and windows remain closed.
We charge for each person on property and charge no cleaning fee regardless of how many stay overnight. We are just asking you to cover our costs. We wash the bed linens, towels, and make sure everything is clean and sanitized between every stay. We want you to enjoy the same cleanliness (or better) that you expect in a nice hotel. Our large space and recreational amenities are the primary attraction. More people means more expense for upkeep, wear and tear, and amenity replacement both inside and out.
We have another listing, the "Pool Barn Camper" The camper is parked in the driveway of the Pool Barn. Guests staying in the camper share the use of the outside amenities such as the pool, hot tub, grill, and campfire. They will have no access to inside your space in the Pool Barn.
We have a dog. He stays in our house which is separate from the Pool Barn. Remington is a black German Shepherd. His bark can be a bit scary but he loves people. He gets let out on occasion and may bark for a minute, but he is friendly if you are too. If you don't like dogs, the Pool area is fenced and you can shut the gates to keep him away from you.
- "Clean property, manager was available for any questions, the pool and games were fun. Would recommend. We will most likely be back in the future and bring the grandparents next time." - "Great overnight with Boy Scouts traveling back from a log camp. The Pool barn was a very welcome change of pace for the kids and adults alike. Wonderful facility and host." - "Great property. Close to the dunes and an amazing amount of hospitality from the owners, who are local enough to assist with any issues. Definitely would stay again!"

Chesterton is a train town. We have several tracks running through our town which attracts many train enthusiasts from out of town. We are so train friendly that we have a train depots, bed and breakfasts, bathrooms, restaurants, etc. Although the town council is currently working on “Quiet Zones”, the Federal law requires trains to blow their whistles when approaching intersections one of which goes through our downtown are (which is typical in most small towns).. The walls are plaster which help insulate the sound. We have ear plugs and air purifiers for the light sleepers. Native Chestertonians do not hear the whistles, but, some light sleepers, may. The house is located within steps of downtown and occasionally, at night, a train comes through but mostly through out the day time. Our hope is that you will come to love our trains as much as we do in Chesterton.
We can't wait to have you as our guest!
- "Lori is the most thoughtful host we have ever had in over a decade of traveling and staying at various properties around the world. Her home in Chesterton had everything you would expect from a private rental property and then some! Her attention to detail is impressive right up to the individually prepared arrival package she dropped off for our stay. She was able to accommodate a slightly early arrival (miscalculation of driving time due to time zone change) while still ensuring everything was ready for us. The town of Chesterton is a great example of small town America. The shops are a short walk from the property and worth setting aside time to explore. I could have spent an entire day in the antique bookstore alone! And breakfast at Peggy Sue’s diner is a must - Peggy Sue will get you day started on a bright note if the coffee isn’t enough. And of course, our daughter and her friend couldn’t resist visiting the Port for ice cream and root beer! We also spent a day at the beach, drove into Valparaiso for some shopping (20 mins away) an afternoon at Shedd aquarium (longer and pricier drive) and an evening at the drive-in. Needless to say, our time passed quickly and our vacation ended much too soon. If you are looking to stay in this area, you should plan your visit around Lori’s property’s availability because I don’t think you could find a better place to stay or host!"

IndianaDunes .com website is a great resource for why visit our area. The Indiana Dunes has over 3.5 million visitors each year!
The Pool Barn Camper is 2009 26' with a tip out and sleeps 6-8. It has been modified to endure the cold weather and is available all year! There is a master bedroom with a Queen size bed. There is another Full size bed in the back behind a curtain. The couch folds into a Twin sized bed. The camper includes a bathroom with sink and shower. It has a frig, freezer, stove, and microwave. There is also a toaster and a Keurig for coffee. All the cookware, dinnerware, and silverware is provided too. A roku smart tv allows you to access YouTube, sign in to your Netflix or Prime Movies account and more. The water lines and bottom of the camper are heated for camping all year! Please remember a Camper with AC, heat, and comforts of home is much more comfortable than a tent, but it is a relatively small space. It isn't ideal for large people or groups to just hang out. A camper is great for enjoying the outside and still have a comfortable safe place to sleep and get out of the weather. So let me tell you about outside...
The large 20x40 inground pool has several loungers. Like a resort Pool, it is only 5 foot at the deepest so not suited for diving, but great to have your own space when sharing, great for children, and for water volleyball. We have floaties, goggles, and snorkels too. The pool area has night lighting and torches to keep the bugs away while enjoying a night swim. Weather permitting, the Pool is open for Memorial Day weekend. We provide bath towels. It is a good idea to bring your own towel for the pool, hot tub, and beach.
When it is too cold for the pool, or you just prefer hot water, enjoy the hot tub, kept at 104 degrees. Enjoy the still water or turn on the jets! The hot tub seats 8 and is open all year!
There is large propane grill near the hot tub and firepit which is shared with the Pool Barn guest. There is also a separate propane grill by the Camper just for Camper guests if the main grill is being used. Propane provided.
The campfire area has plenty of seating space and abundant firewood available at no additional charge. There is now also a portable fire pit just for camper guests if the main campfire is being used by Barn guests. If we are home we'll even get the fire started for you.
The playground area has swings, slide, tree house, and hammock.
Bring your bikes! We are on the Duneland Prairie Bike Trail. Great trails next door in the Dunes National Park for hiking or running too. I may even go with you if you'd like the companionship.
And of course, we are only 3 miles from the sand beaches of the Indiana Dunes State Park and Porter Beach on Lake Michigan. Enjoy a morning stroll. Take in the sunset and see the Chicago skyline on a clear evening. Bask in the sun and take a swim on a sunny day. Go hiking in the Dunes and do the 3 Dune challenge.
Guest access
The Pool Barn Camper is separate from the Pool Barn and our home so you have private access and may come and go as you please. You have private access to the interior of the Camper. You do not get access to the interior of the Pool Barn. The outside amenities such as pool, hot tub, grill, campfire, and playground are shared with the Pool Barn guests and our family.
Other things to note
Why do we charge for extra people and no cleaning fee? We are just asking you to cover our costs. We wash the bed linens, bathroom towels, and make sure everything is clean between every stay. More people also means more upkeep of the common areas. We want you to enjoy the same cleanliness (or better) that you expect in a nice hotel.
We have a dog. He stays in our house which is separate from the Pool Barn. Remington is a black German Shepherd. His bark can be a bit scary but he loves people. He gets let out on occasion and may bark for a minute, but he is friendly if you are too. If you don't like dogs, the Pool area is fenced and can close the gates to keep him away from you.
Since we are located just South of Lake Michigan, there are numerous trains and highways that run near us to get around the lake. Most people tell us that the highways and trains don't bother them. However, if you're new to camping and a light sleeper especially in new places, you may want to use ear plugs.
- "Quick getaway to see the Dunes after an event. Perfect for what we need." - "The host was wonderful and the property was well kept! We didn’t love Porter, but the proximity to the dunes, restaurants and the property itself brought location and neighborhood up to a 4! That was my first time staying in a camper so I was a little thrown off by the movement through the night. Obviously no fault of the camper, just putting that out there for anyone else who may also be a first timer! I also want to suggest planning your day strategically to be out and about or in the pool midday if it’s a really hot day because the camper has a hard time fighting the extreme heat. Overall, we had a great stay and I would recommend this listing. We used the beautiful pool daily, the host was very responsive and staying in a camper was a fun little adventure for us and our two littles."

The diverse cultural friendliness and over all aspects of helpfulness enhanced our experiences comepared to our wild west culture. This was a great atmosphere.I already knew Chesterton was a charming city as I've visited before, but this trip was a milestone to bring family together, make a new. And this place, the kind guidance from the host of this rental made it much more. We plan to come back and bring my eldest son who couldn't make this trip. Love love love it!!"

- "Very nice duplex, very clean inside. The duplex did not have a washer or dryer. We did not hear from with the property owner from selecting this property to checkout. This close to downtown and minutes from the Dunes.." - "We were looking for a relaxing family trip and this location did not disappoint. It was the perfect size for us (4 adults, 1 7-year old, and 2 under 2). The property manager was friendly and very reasponsive with my questions upon booking. Great location; small town with quick access to a few different beaches. Railroad tracks right across the street; but we didn't mind to much. We thought there would be a washer/dryer, but was unable to find it. Would stay again!"

2. Guests must be able to climb stairs to access either apartment, as there are stairs up to the front door of the lower apartment, and a full flight of steep stairs up to the upper apartment.
The $500 is returned once the cleaning crew confirms there are no damages, and the apartments are in good condition.)
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are NOT bringing pets. No pets allowed.
--A maximum of 12 guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed.
—I value my relationship with my neighbors and fellow renters, so events/gathering/parties are not to be held by guests. In order to keep the unit in excellent condition for future guests, I am firm on these rules. I apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
While I do tend to be a “hands off” hosts, please note that I live nearby and will be available via messaging/phone should you need anything.
CHECK-IN INFO:
--Guests who book will receive detailed check-in instructions on the morning of their scheduled arrival. All of this will be communicated through AirBnB messenger.
--A manual with our favorite local attractions will be provided. Please let me know if you’d like this in advance. I have tons of recommendations and love to support the best local businesses.
--Please note that Chesterton is on Central Standard Time (CST), the same as Chicago. Check-in is between 4 and 7 p.m.; check-out is at 10 a.m. (unless other arrangements have been made with me).
--My cancellation policy is moderate.
This house is a duplex. The units are NOT connected to each other.

Fully equipped RV is parked in the driveway of our Pool Barn. RV sleeps 5, has bath w/shower, stove, microwave, heat & A/C, & running water all year. We are located minutes from the sand beaches of Indiana Dunes on Lake Michigan. Hiking in the Indiana Dunes National Park along the Little Calumet River and the historic Bailley homestead is only 1 block away. You may also use our large pool, hot tub, grill, campfire, and playground area. No cleaning fee!
The space
Indiana Dunes website is a great resource for why visit our area. The Indiana Dunes has over 3.5 million visitors each year!
The Pool Barn Camper is 2009 26' with a tip out and sleeps 5.
The pool opens Memorial Day weekend.
The playground area has swings, slide, and a tree house. All outside areas are shared between Camper Guests, Barn Guests, and our family.
Bring your bikes! We are on the Duneland Prairie Bike Trail. Great trails next door in the Dunes National Park for hiking or running too.
Go hiking in the Dunes and do the 3 Dune Challenge!
Why do we charge for extra people? We are just asking you to cover our costs. We wash the bed linens, towels, and make sure everything is clean between every stay. More people also means more upkeep of the common areas. We want you to enjoy the same cleanliness (or better) that you expect in a nice hotel.
We have a dog. He stays in our house which is separate from the Pool Barn. Remington is a black German Shepherd. He protects our personal residence. All dogs can bite. Never run from a dog! Please be sure to park in the driveway off Howe Rd. If you don’t like dogs, the Pool area is fenced and can close the gates to keep him away from you.
Since we are located just South of Lake Michigan, there are numerous trains and highways that run near us to get around the lake. Most people tell us that the highways and trains don't bother them. However, if you're new to camping and a light sleeper especially in new places, you may want to use ear plugs.
Please remember this is a camper, not a house. If there is a heavy rain, a little bit of water may get inside. If rain is expected, just be sure the ceiling vents are completely closed and keep things off the floor that may soak up water. If you need more towels, just let me know.
Finally, our home is in a wooded setting and we are one block from the Dunes National Park. As such, we have birds and animals of many kinds in the area, and who visit our property. You may see anything from deer eating our apples in the yard, to a mouse or two seeking your snacks in the Barn or Camper. You may also see coyote, fox, raccoons, possums, squirrels, chipmunks, and moles. We have butterflies, dragonflies, and fireflies. We also have other flies of all sorts and mosquitos and spiders too. We spray for mosquitos and insects, and we have poison and traps out for the moles and mice, but that doesn’t completely prevent them from visiting. We also have many birds from bald eagles and cranes, to hummingbirds, and bats in the evening too. There is nothing in our area likely to harm you though. We have no bears or large cats. Even poisonous snakes are very rare here. Our water at the beach is fresh water too, not salt water. That means no sharks or jellyfish to be concerned about. We love our nature here, and we hope you will too.

The Pool Barn
We built a 36x72 pole barn and finished half as additional garage space and the other half as a recreation space. Then we added a 20x40 in-ground pool, hot tub, gas grill, shaded picnic area, swings, slide, treehouse, and campfire area. We also have cornhole bag for outside too. Our Camper is also in the driveway. It is listed separately on Airbnb as "The Pool Barn Camper". Outside spaces are shared with our family and the Camper guests.
The pool has several loungers. It is only 5 foot at the deepest so not suited for diving, but great for children, water volleyball and just relaxing throughout. The pool opens Memorial Day weekend through October. Hot Tub is open and enjoyable 365 days a year!
Though our homes aren't close together, out of respect and consideration for our family and neighbors, outside amenities are closed 10pm to 8am. All must remain inside during quiet hours to assure quiet. Inside you can play music, games, talk and laugh and stay up all night if you'd like as long as all remain inside and doors and windows remain closed.
We charge for each person on property regardless of how many stay overnight. When you enter the correct number of guests at time of booking the per person fee is automatically included in the total price. We wash the bed linens, towels, and make sure everything is clean and sanitized between every stay. We want you to enjoy the same (or better) cleanliness and comfort that you expect in a nice hotel. Our large space and recreational amenities are the primary attraction. More people means more expense for upkeep, wear and tear, and amenity replacement both inside and out.
We have another listing on property. The "Pool Barn Camper" is parked in the driveway of the Pool Barn. Guests staying in the camper share the use of the outside amenities such as the pool, hot tub, grill, and campfire. The pool and lounge area is plenty large enough to social distance. The camper guests do have their own grill and campfire area too. We recommend the hot tub not be shared, but rather that Barn guests and Camper guests take turns. Camper guests will have no access to inside your space in the Pool Barn.
We have a large dog named Remington. He stays in our house which is separate from the Pool Barn. Remi is a black German Shepherd. He protects our Private residence. Please be sure to park in the driveway off Howe Rd. All dogs can bite. Never run from a dog! If you don't like dogs, just let us know. The Pool area is fenced and we can shut the gates to keep him away from you.
