Used formerly as a loggers cabin in the early 1900's; this cabin is in the woods with privacy, yet only a 15-20 min drive to Penn State University. No "traditional" internet or broadcast TV -- so our home is ideal for guests who prefer to "unplug" from media distractions. Although...

Adequate WiFi service via the guest's own cellular data when tethered to a laptop or tablet has been reported by multiple recent guests, sufficient for remote network access and video streaming. (Experience may vary, however, according to the guest's cellular network. We will assist our guests in getting connected upon request.)

The cottage features a cozy living room with a CD/DVD player and flat screen TV. A wide selection of DVD films is available, or bring your own. Connection to video streaming services via cellular data with an HDMI cable connection is also possible.

Recent guests have reported good cellular service with Verizon and AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. AND as of October 16. 2023 a new signal amplifier is active that boosts cell reception with quite satisfactory results!

The "Little J" -- well known to fly fishers far and wide -- is one of Pennsylvania's best trout streams and popular with kayakers and river tubers as well; we are just a mile down-river from the village of Barree.

Built in 1902 on a wooded acre by 2nd and 3rd generation descendants of late 18th Century settlers of northern Huntingdon County, the home has been carefully maintained and fully modernized -- serving both as a seasonal and a long-term residence over the last 120 years. Expanded periodically since first built, the home retains many of its original architectural features together with some period furnishings.

Take your morning coffee on our all-seasons porch (screened in warm weather, enclosed with thermal widows in cold weather). Hike up the road into the Rothrock State Forest lands. Hike the Mid-state Trail from a nearby trail head with adequate parking.

The cottage comprises about 975 sq ft (90 sq m) and can accommodate 4 guests comfortably.

The kitchen is equipped with dish soap, dish cloths and dish towels, pots and pans, cooking utensils, toaster, toaster oven with broiler, microwave oven, plates, cups, coffee pots (French Press and Italian Stove Top Espresso), glasses, and flatware. The kitchen seats up to 4 persons, with a 1920s-era Hoosier cupboard and a professionally-restored, 1950s-era gas range, ready for stove-top cooking.

IF YOU PLAN TO ROAST, BAKE, OR REHEAT, ask us to set the oven's standing pilot for you prior to arrival. (Note that this model range did not include a broiler.)

The two bedrooms are in the half-story loft: one with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds.

While many of our guests prefer to bring their own BED and BATH linens, we can furnish these at the guest's request for a one-time $30 fee to cover our linen laundry costs and make up the beds for you. We furnish bed pillows. comforters and light blankets.

You can draw the privacy curtain between the rooms if needed.

The house has modular and window air conditioning units installed in hot and humid weather.

The full bath has a tub with shower.

Our cottage is clean but not fussy: a kick-off-your-shoes, settle-in-with-a-good-book-or-good-conversation kind of place.

We are about 50 minutes from Penn State University and about 20 minutes from Juniata College.

Convenience stores and gas stations (10 minutes to Petersburg or to Alexandria) and supermarkets (20 minutes to Huntingdon) are within convenient driving distances. Several local eateries are close by for eat-in or take-out, and some for delivery.

This tiny home features everything you would need for a weekend stay! Tucked in the woods on our property , hiking all around, and 30 min from Penn State University. Main floor bedroom,full bathroom, full kitchen, and fire pit outside! Our tiny home has beautiful exposed wood mortise and tenon beams which makes it cozy and warm! We are surrounded by many beautiful fishing spots, hunting areas, and hiking. Only a 40 min drive to Raystown Lake.

Our hosts, who met us upon arrival, also supplied us with fresh blueberry muffins, breakfast cereal and other assorted snacks. The cabin does not have WiFi or cable but my Verizon data worked fine. There are plenty of beds for a larger group. Definitely a great stay if you are looking for peace, quiet and a bit of central Pennsylvania rustic charm."

CATA bus stop is right out front, or you can hitch a taxi, Uber, or Lyft to Beaver Stadium or downtown State College.

There are 2 very sizable bedrooms (one with a King bed and one with a Queen bed). There is plenty of floor space in each bedroom for a Queen air mattress, as well as in the den area at the top of the stairs (by the desk). I will have one Queen sized air mattress available for you to use. Alternatively, the air mattress could fit in the living room and there are also a couch and loveseat available.

Kitchen is fully stocked with utensils, dishes, pots and pans. There is a 4-person table in the dining room and a 4-person table on the patio.

Those with allergies: I make sure the house is very clean before you arrive, but please note that there are 2 short-haired cats that live here. They will not be here during your stay.

Please be aware there are two French bulldogs that do run our property that are the family pets. The brown dog is named Benson and he is three years old and the little pup is eight months old. His name is Hutch. If you see them, they are very friendly and will not bite. If you have a fear of dogs please message me before your arrival to make sure the dogs are in the house.
Also, to note, please do not flush any toilet wipes, make up wipes, or any foreign objects down the toilet. You will be held financially responsible for Aunt any damage done to the toilet or septic. Please only use the provided toilet paper, which is special for the camper.

Looking for a family get away that's deep in the woods, but close to all State College has to offer? Look no further than our cabin in the woods. We're nestled about 20 minutes outside of State College, but surrounded by State Forest. The perfect break from city life.

The space
Our home is spacious, has most modern amenities (no cable or internet; mobile 4G works), and is a short drive from all you need in State College. There are three bedrooms (one master suite), and a loft area for the kids. Large eating area and sitting area around the coal stove. If you're not interested in the coal stove, there is a propane fireplace which keeps the house toasty. Please note: you'll have to bring your own sheets and towels. We have kitchen utensils, pots, pans, etc for your use.

There is a sleeping loft which is open to the dining area, has a full bathroom, and 4 single beds. A perfect place for the kids.

Guest access
You'll have access to all of the house except the basement. There is no washer and dryer.

Other things to note
This is a cabin in the woods. As such, animals do come on the property (deer, bear, porcupines, etc). In addition, if we get snow, driving to the can be a bit tricky if you've never driven on snow before. Please know your own abilities.
