Our home is in the middle of the Washington Square West neighborhood and it was built in 1858. It is one of the oldest and most historic areas in Philadelphia. The neighborhood is residential with historic townhouses, but also walking distance to everything in Philadelphia including many restaurants, bars, & attractions. The Pennsylvania Convention Center, Rittenhouse Square, Old City, Society Hill, South Street, Bella Vista, and Graduate Hospital are all within a five to ten minute walk. You'll find everything you might need within walking distance including a corner store, coffee shops, Whole Foods, a wine/liquor store, CVS and many top rated bars and restaurants!

**Like most houses built in the period, please be aware that this property has somewhat steep stairs. The stairs to the roof deck are VERY steep and shallow. It is not handicapped accessible.

Public transportation (bus and subway) is easily accessible. A bus stop and the subway stop (Broad Street Line) are a few blocks away. The house is within walking distance to two major train stations (Suburban Station and Jefferson Station). 30th Street Station is a ten minute Uber/Lyft/cab ride. The airport is 25 minutes by Subway or twenty minute by Uber/Lyft/cab ($28.50 is the set fare for cab + $1 for additional passengers)

Uber, Lyft, and taxis are all readily available in the area. There is also an Indego bike share station just a couple blocks from the house.

Because our home is located on a car-free street in the heart of the city, nearby street parking can be limited.

What is so special about this home is the original detailing: wood-beamed ceilings, original plank floors, fireplace (fireplace in living room can be used & other three fireplaces are only decorative), paneled doors, & vintage built-ins. Eat in kitchen, large back patio, two spacious bedrooms, & two bathrooms with natural light.

- "The place had no A/C when I arrived. Thank goodness I could go somewhere and I messaged the owner. They were VERY responsive and had everything working within the hour. Lovely space and great location. It is 5 floors up a curving staircase. " - "Check in was easy, but upon arrival we were shocked to be on the 5th floor. The listing was a bit confusing and made me think it was on the first floor. Beware if you have heavy luggage and have a hard time walking up steep spiral staircase. Room looked different than pictured as far as some ammenities and looks. Didnt have complete kitchen setup, just an unopened box of utensils and a couple of stove top pans. There were plates, bowls, and cups though. Was not properly stocked for a stay of 2 weeks, probably better suited for someone staying more short term, otherwise you'll run out of things fast and need to buy your own. The laundry room is in a dirty dark basement and the washer broke twice leaving us without around $10 trying to get it to work before and after they said it was fixed. Ended up going to the laundromat around the corner and spending more money. Some things were also broken upon arrival, like old light switch. Smoke alarm also needed new batteries. It was a nice little apartment but obviously needs a little extra look at on some things. It has window air conditioning on top and bottom of unit which was a huge pro for us in the summer. "

Parking was a challenge; learn the rules, find a spot and maximize walking. Stairs to the third floor unit were a challenge for us, so minimize in and out! Overall a fun, safe and clean spot."

IF YOU LIKE LUXURY AND THE OPTION TO HAVE A HOT, NOT LUKEWARM SHOWER OR BATH DON'T STAY HERE!!!!!!! The building itself and hallways really need maintenance. So when you first walk in it is a bit jarring to see how ugly the hallway is. Then when you get to the unit things are not well maintained. It looks clean at first glance. It was one thing after the other with this place. Originally booked for 2 for me and my mom since it listed sleeps 3. There was no sleep sofa. The blinds in the living room are broken off so there is no bottom half which meant that I had no privacy in the living room at night. Dirty stained placemats on table. Air conditioners are taped into the windows. The curtains in the bedroom are taped to the window. Yes, I said taped. I have never seen that before. Don't know the owners but I don't think we have the same concept of luxury. Wallpaper mural behind bed is peeling off. There are chunks of paint peeling from the ceiling in the bathroom as well as around the mirror. Broken towel rack that fell off the wall. Worst of all there is no truly hot water, only barely warm for a shower or bath. One night I had no hot water for a shower. Old stained refrigerator. Dirty range hood on top of the stove. I actually wanted and tried to leave but couldn't find another booking on short notice. The location is the best part. "

That specific complaint took more than 2 days for a respons and more days after that before they provided an exterminator, who I don’t think solved the problem. If you should rent it anyway, you should look out particularly for dust in the small plastic black dresser next the refrigerator, the drawers of which were all very dusty which got on my clothes, and I deliberately left a woman's fake fingernail that had been there when I arrived.Wonky electrical plugs, some of which don't work or things plugged into them keep falling out.Common areas and especially the laundry room apparently never cleaned except for when someone checks out, which in my case was 2 1/2 months and there were clearly other long-term stays, so that the common areas went weeks without even being swept. - "The listing stated that parking is included. I asked for info about parking and was told that there is parking on the street. One night before the stay I got email telling me that I need to go to city hall to get a visitor parking permit. As an alternative I could park in a different neighborhood without such restrictions or pay at a garage scattered throughout the city. It was a priority to have convenient parking since I have difficulty walking. I booked the stay because they listed parking. I ended up canceling the stay. I notified Vrbo and was told that the host controls everything and they can’t help, not even to get the host to refund my payment or to insist that he correct his listing. This is no way to conduct business. I expect a full refund. "

Other things to note
Some notes about the property to make your stay comfortable:
-Trash & recycling need to be taken out to the sidewalk in front on Wednesday morning.
-dish washing sponge filled with soap must be left standing upright with the sponge at the top, otherwise all dish washing soap leaks out.
-garbage disposal switch is in the upper right corner of the cabinet underneath the sink (looks like a light-switch). Must run water while turning it on for a few seconds at a time, or will break.
-please turn on the fan timer (20-30 mins) every time when showering to minimize steam peeling off bathroom paint!!
-small hand-vacuum cleaner sits on the ledge in the basement hallway, for light picking up, for your convenience. Big vacuum cleaner is in the mechanical's room behind the basement bathroom, if needed.
-hairdryer in the cabinet underneath the basement bathroom sink.
-house key opens/locks both front and back (metal door). Please ensure both doors are locked at all times. Burglars constantly roam around the city. (The inside back wooden door, behind the metal door, remains unlocked all the time.)
-only limitation: please avoid using dishwasher, as it can leak.
