The Highlands House is located only a short distance from the Colo Vale exit on The Hume Motorway 90 minutes south of Sydney. We are 10 minutes to Mittagong, 15 minutes to Bowral and 20 minutes to Berrima.

The master suite has a king bed plus large single day bed overlooking the garden, a lovely sitting area around a slow combustion woodheater and en suite .

Bedroom 5 also doubles as a media room with gas fire heater, lounge suite and a large flatscreen tv.

The garden is nothing short of glorious. There are various “rooms” created with hedging, arbours, and various plantings of lemons, limes, apples, pears, grapes, roses and beautiful seasonal blossoms. Be sure to walk around to the front of the house and look back at the stunning stone wall and glass feature windows. There are beautiful nooks in which to sit and read, enjoy shade in summer and warm sunlight in cooler months.

There is an undercover bbq area and also a fully fenced swimming pool – perfect for summer entertainment (please be aware that Highland House has an Enviroswim freshwater swimming pool which uses a unique treatment technology, giving the water a slightly different appearance to chlorinated pools). If you would like the pool to be heated during your stay, it can be turned on for an extra cost as it is gas heated. If you would like to use sauna, it can be turned on for an extra cost. The Hot Tub is free to use. Outside the garden enclosure is a paddock with dam and some very curious and hungry vegetarian geese – be sure to send the scraps their way!

Visit some of the many local wineries on the food and wine trails, take a scenic country drive through rolling hills and purchase local fresh produce at the farm gates or spend a morning at one of the village markets to pick up some home-made goods.

Enjoy a paddock to plate tour, experience a high tea in the highlands, yoga in the vines, have an old fashioned picnic or walk into an historic pub and have a yarn around a welcoming open fire. There are many waking trails, cycling trails, golf courses and the famous Bradman cricket ground and museum is a must visit. So much to offer!

Aylmerton House is a historic Southern Highlands home that sleeps 14. The sandstone home was built in the 1870's and whilst it has been modernised for contemporary living, please understand that it does retain many original features and should be booked as a casual and comfortable home or a large group of friends, or a family gathering - true to the photos. The property has 5 acres of rambling lawns and gardens, which are constantly being upgraded or changed by the owners. Certain sections of the garden may therefore have works in progress during your visit. The main house and cottage (connected via a covered walkway) have 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, multiple living rooms, two fireplaces and lovely wrap around verandahs. Aylmerton House is a quintessential Southern Highlands experience!

- Aylmerton House has a large dam on the property that is not fully fenced. Please take extreme care with young children on the property.

Where will I be?

Aylmerton House is located in a very pretty farming area, just to the north of Mittagong. The property is flanked by cattle farms of beautiful weekenders, and is itself a lovely 5 acre property, complete with lawns, gardens, dam and walking tracks. The property is located on the corner of Old South Road and Aylmerton Road, yet is very quiet and secluded. The towns of Mittagong and Bowral, plus any golf courses, wineries, wedding venues, restaurants or cafes are all an easy drive from the house. This is a stunning, historic home, well worth a bit of extra driving - if needed - in order to stay here!

How is the property laid out?

The property consists of the main homestead, which adjoins a separate cottage and garden bedroom via a covered walkway.

As per the floorplans provided, the main homestead sleeps 10 across 5 bedrooms and 3 shared bathrooms. It also has 2 living areas, a large dining room, and a classic country kitchen.

The adjoining cottage sleeps 4 across 2 bedrooms and one bathroom. The cottage also has its own kitchen area. Note that the second bedroom has an external door and is not accessed from inside the cottage. This is evident in the photos.

Do I use the main house or the cottage or both?

You will have use of both the Main House and the Cottage. Both are connected via a covered walkway.

Wi-Fi, internet, Netflix or pay tv- will I have it?

This property provides complimentary Wi-Fi and a password will be provided in your pre-arrival email, or will be available at the property. Please note however that neither the agency nor the owner can guarantee 100% that the Wi-Fi will work, and no compensation will be payable if problematic. If important, please therefore always have a backup plan.

What about outdoors?

Aylmerton House stands on 5 acres of lawns and gardens including commemorative and sculpture gardens, large lawn areas, mature trees and a large dam. The house and cottage also have covered verandas. There is a nook or hiding spot for each season and every occasion!

Please however take extreme care with young children on this property as the dam is NOT fenced.

Keeping warm or keeping cool?

During the cooler months and winter, the house has gas central heating, 3 fire places, electric heaters for the bedrooms, and electric blankets on the beds. In the warmer months, the house can be opened up to catch any available breeze. The sandstone walls also keep the main house very cool by comparison to other construction methods.

What about sheets, towels and other supplies?

High quality sheets and towels are provided at Aylmerton House.

Toilet paper, kitchen soaps, guest soaps and some other supplies are also provided, but please be prepared to top up during your stay as needed. Regarding food, condiments and the like, please plan to bring everything you need. For safety and hygiene reasons, our houses generally do not supply food items.

Parking for cars, boats etc.?

There is ample off street parking for 6 - 8 vehicles. Please park only on the gravel driveway areas, not the lawns - thanks.

Is my dog or cat also welcome to stay?

Yes, your favourite pet is welcome to stay at Aylmerton House, and please note the following:

- the yard is NOT fully fenced

- please keep your pets off all furniture and beds

- please clean up behind your pet

Wildlife

Please note that due to the nature and location of this property, wildlife may be about including possums, kangaroos, spiders and snakes. We do whatever we can to keep the property safe and do work with a network of wildlife removal experts, however we cannot guarantee that you will not see any wildlife at the property. If you do, we will use our best endeavours to have the animal removed or to make the property safe, however no compensation whatsoever will be paid for any disturbance caused by wildlife. You must book the property knowing that this risk exists, even though very uncommon.

Pottery Cottage started life as a pottery studio but has been lovingly converted into a comfortable, characterful cottage. There are two bedrooms, each with ensuite and bedding for 5 guests. The design of the living area and bedrooms makes extensive use of beautiful timber cladding and a double height ceiling with exposed timber joists. During the colder months, the fireplace makes this a wonderful cozy place to be.

Where will I be?

Pottery Cottage is located within the Little Forest complex, a collection of 7 cottages spread across 40 acres of grounds. Your cottage will have its own private spaces, but please be aware that other guests may be around as well. Communal spaces include the lawns, gardens, driveway and trails, but you will have plenty of privacy as well. The Little Forest complex has a bush setting and is circled on one side by the Sydney - Melbourne railway line. As a result, trains are audible at times, and for any kids, part of the fun! Little Forest also has various trails throughout its 42 acres, but please keep children supervised at all times due to wildlife, unfenced dams and trains.

How is the property laid out?

Pottery Cottage is reached down a tree-lined country drive way. You approach the house through beautiful gardens and the front door opens into the open plan living, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen is equipped with an oven, cooktop, microwave, dishwasher and a coffee machine that is compatible with Nespresso pods. The bedrooms are at each end of the cottage, one with a queen bed and one single bed, the other with one queen bed. Both bedrooms have bathrooms have a shower, bath and toilet. The living area is located centrally between the two bedrooms. Outside is a courtyard with barbeque and seating for six.

Wi-Fi, Internet, Netflix or Pay TV will I have it?

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available and a password will be provided in your pre-arrival email. Please note that neither The Holidays Collection nor the owner can guarantee 100% that Wi-Fi will work, and no compensation will be payable if problematic. What about outdoors?

Pottery Cottage is surrounded by lawns and gardens that are open for guests to use. The house is part of a larger 40 acre property which includes bush trails for guests to explore. Please be aware that there is an unfenced dam on the property so children must be supervised at all times.

Please note that the tap water in the community BBQ area is not drinkable. This water comes from the dam and is not treated, please do not drink it under any circumstances. The water in Pottery Cottage is safe to drink.

Pottery Cottage has a slow combustion fireplace in the living area. All bedrooms have stand alone heaters and ceiling fans.

- "Will be back" - "It's a small & cosy fairly new house however designed in old style in the middle of a massive block of bush, far away from any neighbour houses so you have plenty of privacy. Log fire can heat up the house nicely to make us stay warm in chilly winter. The small lake, the llamas, kangaroos, rabbits and the ponies around the cottage are all lovely, 4 friends have enjoyed a great weekend out there to chill out and unwind. The down side of it, is kitchen is too small, there is hardly any where to put our cooking ingredients, also the bathtub has very little & slow water to come through."

*This is a no-party property. We do not allow parties/events of any sort. The maximum amount of guests allowed to sleep in this property is FIVE people, however, we do allow day visitors of up toTWOpeople. No more than a maximum of SEVENpeople are allowed in the property at any given time.

*Only the guests staying at the property are permitted to be present. If you wish to have visitors in addition to booked guests, you must advise us in writing prior to your stay and ensure you receive written permission.

*This home is a strictly no-smoking property. If any of our cleaners find any form of cigarette ash, butts or smell cigarettes in the apartment, we could issue a $500 fine.

*This is a domestic residence and we love our neighbours. We do not allow loitering or loud noise outside of the premises or inside of the premises. We ask for minimal noise especially after 9 pm.

*STRA Rules - By booking this home you automatically agree to all the STRA terms and conditions that are applicable to guests. You also agree that if you do break any of the house rules you will be asked to leave and no refund of the unused nightly rates will be returned.

*Check-in/Check-out - We cannot stress enough the importance of checking out on time. Our regular check-in time is after 3 pm and check-out time is prior to 10 am. If you wish to have an earlier check-in than 3 pm and we are able to accommodate your request, there may be an additional charge. If you check out later than 10 am, there will be an additional charge of $50.

*Under no circumstances are the following activities permitted at any of our properties: motorbikes, drones, dirt bikes, quad bikes, use of firearms or air rifles, fireworks.

*The Pool Rules:
- We want to make sure all our guests are safe – there are safety instructions / CPR instructions on the pool fence. Please make sure to follow these in case of an emergency.v Please ensure you are always pool safe when nearby the pool. Also, please do not take glasses down to the pool, there are dedicated plastic “crystal look” glasses in the kitchen for poolside use.

- Kids are to be supervised at ALL TIMES near the pool and Getawayz takes no liabilities for any accidents around the pool. You will be swimming at your own risk and we want to be sure everyone remains safe.

- Please keep the pool gates closed and don’t prop them open - they are there to protect children and/or pets getting into the pool area unaccompanied.

- Guests are required to shower before using the hot tub. Any oils, sunscreen or other items can build up and destroy the filter. If we need to empty and refill this due to this not being followed, you, the booking holder may be liable.

*Fire Ban - There is a total fire ban during the summer months. The lighting of mosquito coils, candles, campfires, our fireplace, etc are absolutely not permitted.

*It is the responsibility of guests to be aware of Extreme, Severe and Code Red fire danger days and all bush fire warnings. The most important thing to know when there is a fire in your area is to leave early. Never wait for the Royal Fire Service or any other help. Leaving early is the best and only preparation. Please refer to fire safety plan to follow.

*Security - The property is gated, and we ask that you close the gate once you have entered the driveway and when you are leaving. Please make sure the property is secured when you are out. Please close and lock all doors and windows before you depart, whether it’s exploring the fabulous Southern Highlands or departing from your trip!

The cottage was once located up North of Sydney, cut in half (if you look closely around the house you will be able to see where) and driven on the back of a truck to its current location.

The previous owners owned a local nursery and planted the beautiful native gardens you see in the photos. The were also into meditation and art, thus, explaining the artist studio. The meditation room has been adapted into a cubby house for the kids to play in!

The home has recently had a 20 metre heated lap pool and hot tub installed, a brand new kitchen as well as other additional items added to the home - it's the perfect city escape. The train station is only 5 minutes from the property as well, for those without a car!
Yerrinbool is at the top of the Southern Highlands and a stone throw away from everything you could want.

The sandstone he used was originally hand quarried by convicts and was reclaimed from the old Kerrigans Inn. Communal spaces include the lawns, gardens, driveway and trails, but you will have plenty of privacy as well. The Little Forest complex has a bush setting and is circled on one side by the Sydney - Melbourne railway line. As a result, trains are audible at times, and for any kids, part of the fun! Little Forest also has various trails throughout its 42 acres, but please keep children supervised at all times due to wildlife, unfenced dams and trains.

- "Lovely cute cottage with everything you need in the kitchen and awesome selection of movies to watch cosied to the fireplace (that was all setup ready to just light when we arrived). There are heated, polished concrete floors in parts of the house. Between the formal dining room and the lounge room is a double sided gas fireplace which warms both areas. The ensuite bathroom features underfloor heating and a heated towel rail.

Please note that due to the nature and location of this property, wildlife may be about including possums, kangaroos, spiders and snakes. We do whatever we can to keep the property safe and do work with a network of wildlife removal experts, however we cannot guarantee that you will not see any wildlife at the property. If you do, we will use our best endeavours to have the animal removed or to make the property safe, however no compensation whatsoever will be paid for any disturbance caused by wildlife. 'The Al' is a charming, recently renovated getaway located in Aylmerton, the gateway to the picturesque Southern Highlands. Located on a 1/4 acre block, the property has spectacular rural views and homes native birds in its many trees. Do not be surprised if you receive a visit from one of the many King Parrots! Totally private, the property is located a short 5 minutes away from Mittagong and 10 minutes from Bowral.

'The Al' is of Colorbond construction and is newly renovated. When you enter the property, you are greeted with a spacious combined lounge/dining/kitchen space with a beautiful vaulted ceiling, offering plenty of space and natural light. This room also includes a log fireplace with plenty of firewood to keep you warm and cosy during those colder nights. The kitchen is fully equipped if you choose to spend the night in.

Staying in Angas Carriage is a truly unique and enjoyable experience. Angas started life as a passenger train in the 1920s and has been loving restored and converted into accommodation for up to 9 guests. The original woodwork and compartment layout make this a beautiful place to be. Modern updates including insulation, kitchen, bathroom, heating and air conditioning ensure that Angas remains comfortable for guests all these years later. This is an accommodation experience that you will not forget.

Where will I be?

Angas Carriage is located within the Little Forest complex, a collection of 7 cottages spread across 42 acres of grounds. The carriage does have its own private spaces, but please be aware that other guests may be around as well. There are two other cottages in immediate proximity to the carriage so please do expect to occasionally see your neighbours. Communal spaces include the lawns, gardens, driveway and trails, but you will have plenty of privacy as well. The Little Forest complex has a bush setting and is circled on one side by the Sydney - Melbourne railway line. As a result, trains are audible at times, and for any kids, part of the fun! Little Forest also has various trails throughout its 42 acres, but please keep children supervised at all times due to wildlife, unfenced dams and trains.

Angas Carriage is reached down a tree-lined country drive way. You approach the carriage across a lawn and enter up the steel stairs. You enter into the kitchen and dining area. A hallway runs the length of the carriage, off which you will find the 7 bedrooms - one with a double bed and single bed, and six single bed compartments. The kitchen has a bar fridge, convection microwave and a small gas stovetop. There is also a coffee machine that is compatible with Nespresso pods. Cooking equipment is supplied. There is a bathroom with shower and toilet that is at the kitchen end of the carriage. At the opposite end is a separate toilet. The windows look out onto the landscaped gardens and surrounding bush.

- "We were not impressed with the cleanliness of the accommodation with hairs in the bathroom and outdoor area quite messy. The plumbing was noisy, clunky or not working at all in some basins. There was insufficient crockery for 8 guests as well as inadequate cooking utensils. There was virtually no salt. The living area was far too small for the number of beds, so if it had been raining and we couldn’t gather outside, it would have been very crowded when eating. A complaint lodged whilst we were staying there has still not be responded to by the managers. The kids enjoyed the novelty of being on a train."

Carriage Way Cottage is nestled on 10 acres overlooking the stunning rolling hills of the Southern Highlands. Only 60 minutes from Sydney this beautifully situated cottage is on the northern most edge of the highlands in the village of Alpine. Perfect for a midweek or weekend getaway.
Well equipped facilities allow you the option of eating in or visit one of the fantastic eateries a short 10 minute drive away.

Guests will have the entirety of the cottage which is set away from the main house.
You are welcome to wander the property but as we have two large very friendly dogs there is an area of underground fencing to keep the dogs away from the cottage. This area is marked out by white flags.
The dogs cannot come onto the driveway.

Other things to note
Occasionally you will hear the toot of a passing train as we have a tunnel at the far end of the property. It is a unique and fun experience, one that we still love after 10 years!!
There is no smoking inside the cottage but fine on balconies or in the grounds.

Studio Cottage is a truly unique property that offers guests a charming country getaway. The cottage was built by artist Ray Crooke as his studio in the 1970s. The sandstone he used was originally hand quarried by convicts and was reclaimed from the old Kerrigans Inn. The cottage has a wonderful cozy feel to it and is a wonderful retreat to come home to after a day exploring the Southern Highlands.

Where will I be?

Studio Cottage is located within the Little Forest complex, a collection of 7 cottages spread across 42 acres of grounds. Your cottage will have its own private spaces, but please be aware that other guests may be around as well. There are two other cottages as well as the Angas Carriage in immediate proximity to your cottage so please do expect to occasionally see your neighbours. Communal spaces include the lawns, gardens, driveway and trails, but you will have plenty of privacy as well. The Little Forest complex has a bush setting and is circled on one side by the Sydney - Melbourne railway line. As a result, trains are audible at times, and for any kids, part of the fun! Little Forest also has various trails throughout its 42 acres, but please keep children supervised at all times due to wildlife, unfenced dams and trains.

How is the property laid out?

Studio Cottage is reached down a tree-lined country drive way. You approach the house through beautiful gardens and enter into a charming country kitchen and dining area. Just off the dining area is a living room with fireplace, comfortable lounges and television. Also leading off from the kitchen is the master bedroom with queen bed and ensuite. Upstairs is the second bedroom with a queen bed. Both bedrooms share the master bedroom ensuite.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available and a password will be provided in your pre-arrival email. Please note that neither The Holidays Collection nor the owner can guarantee 100% that Wi-Fi will work, and no compensation will be payable if problematic. What about outdoors?

Studio Cottage is surrounded by lawns and gardens that are open for guests to use. The house is part of a larger 40 acre property which includes bush trails for guests to explore. Please be aware that there is an unfenced dam on the property so children must be supervised at all times.

Keeping warm or keeping cool?

Studio Cottage has a slow combustion fireplace downstairs. There is a free standing heater in the bathroom. The cottage does not have air conditioning.

What about sheets, towels and other supplies?

High quality sheets and towels are provided at Studio Cottage.

Toilet paper, kitchen soaps, guest soaps and some other supplies are also provided, but please be prepared to top up during your stay as needed. Regarding food, condiments and the like, please plan to bring everything you need. For safety and hygiene reasons, our houses generally do not supply food items.

There are two off street parking, open air parking spaces beside this property.

Is my dog or cat also welcome to stay?

Pets are welcome at Studio Cottage! Please note the following:

- please inform us of your intention to bring a pet at the time of booking.

- Summer Season: Between 2 and 7 nights, depending on the property

How is the property laid out?

Angas Carriage is reached down a tree-lined country drive way. You approach the carriage across a lawn and enter up the steel stairs. You enter into the kitchen and dining area. A hallway runs the length of the carriage, off which you will find the 7 bedrooms - one with a double bed and single bed, and six single bed compartments. The kitchen has a bar fridge, convection microwave and a small gas stovetop. Cooking equipment is supplied. There is a bathroom with shower and toilet that is at the kitchen end of the carriage. At the opposite end is a separate toilet. The windows look out onto the landscaped gardens and surrounding bush.
