The rooms are very clean and well-maintained, and an excellent daily buffet breakfast (featuring bread, pastries, homemade yogurt, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juice, seasonal fruit, butter, jams, and sandwich meats) is included in the reasonable room cost. The hosts, Serge and Audrey, are very friendly and went out of their way to assist in any way they could to make my stay pleasant. The setting in the countryside is pleasant and relaxing, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Shower liquid soap, towels, and blankets are provided free of charge. There were three 220-voltage outlets in my room and one in the bathroom. That said, a car is needed to get there and to get around. TV or telephone were not available in the rooms at the time of my stay. Internet is included in the room price. A laptop can be used to watch Netflix or other programs you are already subscribed to. The hosts speak mostly French. I suggest using a translation app for translations into French. "

A bit of history: The 'Château des Ormeaux' close to the Vernelle house was built during the reign of Charles X. The original Château was built on Paul Scaron's lands in the 17th century. Before marrying Louis XIV, the marquise de Maintenon was married to Paul Scaron.

The gite is in a fantastic location to visit some of the best Chateaux in the area and is very close to the bustling town of Amboise which has multiple restaurants and cafes, as well as a lovely market. With our 8 year old in tow, we also kayaked on the Loire (15mins drive away), and went to Gadawi Nord (Go Ape but better) which is 30 mins away near Tours. - "This apartment exceeds the brochure description. It is ideally located directly overlooking the beach, for local shops around the corner and for the town centre. It is bright, well-maintained, clean and well-decorated. The bed is very comfortable. Facilities for parking and bicycle storage are excellent. The owner is helpful and welcoming. We did not experience any problems at all during our visit - the whole week was delightful. We spent the time cycling along the Vendeen green routes, buying food at local shops and practising our limited French with locals. We visited an art exhibition at the Mediateque and the local market, cycled north to Noirmoutier one day, then drove to Noirmoutier and cycled round it another day. We cycled south to St Gilles Croix de Vie. We took the ferry to L'Ile d'Yeu and hired VTTs to cycle round the coast. We ate out one night at the Robinson Hotel restaurant which was expensive but well worth it. I recommend the apartment to everyone. "
