This Rustic Cabin Retreat is surrounded by trees for privacy on 5+ acres, but is very close to town for the conveniences you may want while on a getaway! Cabin offers a full kitchen, bath, living room with wood fireplace, main floor bedroom with a set of double bunk beds, and a loft with a queen bed. The outside is full of trees, a trail, a small pond, and the creek. Wilderness galore with deer, turkeys, birds of all kinds! There's a "kid's fort" nestled into the trees that offers a little fun privacy for the includes a mini fridge, microwave, bean bags, futon in the loft, and a TV for watching DVD's.

Dog friendly, there were multiple tie outs, dog houses, extra outside bowls, and plenty of things to sniff around the property! Our family enjoyed the spacious living room, and everyone slept well throughout our stay. There are trains nearby, but we have trains where we live, too, so train sounds to me are quite comforting! We will definitely book again next year when we come back out to visit family. So much to do in the area! We bowled, fished, hiked, went shopping, and ate at Alley Rose which was a great place! The house had everything we needed, and we watched a different movie every night with the DVD library provided! FUN!"

Important Things to Know About Our Home:

The bunkhouse allows guest to enjoy the unique blend of country life, while still being within 5 - 10 minutes of Kearney's restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, entertainment, fuel, etc. The ranch is easily accessible from town via paved roads, though note that the roads on the ranch leading to the bunkhouse as well as the bunkhouse parking lot are gravel.

The bunkhouse and entire surrounding premises are non-smoking of any kind. As such, this home is not a good fit for people who smoke.

The bunkhouse is pet friendly with some limitations in place to ensure that the home does not feel like a pet home to non-pet guests. Specifically, pets are not allowed in the carpeted parts of the home or on furniture. Various gates are provided to ensure that pets remain on the linoleum floored areas of the home only or outside in the large provided dog run. As well, all pets must be well behaved and not have an nuisance or otherwise destructive behaviors. Guests should indicate the plan to bring a pet in the booking reservation and an additional pet fee will apply.

The location of the bunkhouse on the ranch offers privacy and a serene, secluded location, though guests should expect the occasional passing by of ranch vehicles/machinery, ranch personnel, and horses and/or goats as a part of the daily working ranch operations.

The bunkhouse is located on an active working horse ranch allowing guests to enjoy the sights and sounds of a western style ranch amidst a lovely pastoral setting. Guests may observe the horses and goats, but feeding, petting or otherwise interacting with any of the animals in an unsupervised manner is prohibited.

The bunkhouse is accessed via a gravel road which is accessed through an automatic gate with a code. The code for entrance will be sent prior to arrival.

The bunkhouse shares the parking lot with a single RV site which may, at times, have an RV/camper in it during a guests stay.

Although we welcome children and infants please note that the home has not been baby-proofed, though we do now provide some baby travel essentials for guests use. Horses and goats travel on the road in front of the bunkhouse and there is also a seasonal water canal. As such, children should never be left unattended outside.

There are security cameras throughout the ranch, but please note there are no cameras at the bunkhouse to respect the privacy of our guests.

The ranch is within an 1/8 of a mile to the entrance of Cottonmill Lake State Park allowing guests to enjoy park access within a short walk or very short drive. The park offers hiking, biking, fishing, boating, frisbee golf, playgrounds, BBQ pits, swimming (seasonal), a nature barn (seasonal), wildlife viewing and more!

The ranch is within 5 minutes of the University of Nebraska Kearney.

The ranch also provides excellent access to Sandhill Crane viewing areas such as Fort Kearny (15 minutes) and Rowe Sanctuary (25 minutes). During the famous spring crane migration cranes also frequently fly directly over the ranch and feed in the neighboring corn fields.

This house was build in 1900 and still has the original wood floors. It is newly updated with all new appliances and kitchen. Electric fireplace to make your stay cozy. Close to downtown and interstate.

In town for a conference and all hotels were booked, this worked out great. I would make note that there are no private bedrooms as the doors are glass with no covering. This home is decorated with my homestead farm family heritage and Nebraska Native American history. Re-purposed farm items are intermingled with contemporary decor. Most of the finishing is hand crafted and connected to my memories of being raised a farmer's daughter who worked in the fields and raised livestock with my parents, brother, and sister.

- "I was in town for a conference and stayed at this LOVELY home with a colleague (and later a couple of other colleagues stayed with us for one night because we stayed up so late cooking and chatting!). It's less than a 10 minute drive to Younes Convention Center.This house had everything that we could ask for and more!It had a fully stocked kitchen (appliances, plates and utensils, even spices for making yummy avocado toast!, coffee, tea, sugar). The appliances seemed very new and were in great working order. We spent many hours seated at the dining room table (seating for 8), talking and eating. The bedrooms and living spaces were tastefully decorated and so, so comfy. There are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor and 2 in the basement (not sure why this listing said there were 3 bedrooms, there were 4?). The beds were very comfortable! The bathrooms (1 on the ground floor and 1 downstairs) were gorgeous with deep bathtubs for soothing baths. They had thick towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and blow dryers.There are 3 TVs - one upstairs above a cozy electric fireplace, one downstairs in a common area and one in the master bedroom downstairs.There is a place to park your car next to the house which is great. The host was very accessible through the VRBO messaging app and answered my questions quickly. Gosh - I hope every VRBO experience I have going forward is as good as this one though! It totally felt like "home". Thank you!!!"

Located one mile east of the Audubon Rowe Crane Sanctuary where the Sandhill Cranes stay during their annual Spring migration this just completed yurt sits directly under the flyway where the crane return to their roost every night. This is the only accommodation in Nebraska where you can roll out of bed and witness the cranes fly over from your own private deck. The photography opportunities are extraordinary.
Dancing Crane Yurt is the ultimate glamping experience that cannot be experienced anywhere else. A pellet stove (instructions provided) keeps guests warm and toasty. A small kitchenette allows for basic food preparation. A private bathroom in the yurt contains a shower, sink and composting toilet; however, the washer and dryer are located in the host's home just across the backyard.

A cozy cabin sitting on 3/4 of a mile of Platte River ground & directly on the sandhill cranes’ main migration path. These birds will put you to bed at night and wake you up early as they decide to leave the roost and head out to the feeding areas for the day. This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cabin with a large loft & sleeping area will comfortably sleep 7 adults.

- "This is a spectacular cabin that is right next to the Platte River with huge window views of the river flowing by. Thousands of cranes fly by and overhead in the evening seeking their spot for the night and they erupt in the morning from a nearby, more shallow waterway to head back to the corn fields to feed. It really is an incredible sight, and the warbling and trumpeting of the birds is a chorus of nature. The cabin is close to perfect, very well-equipped and comfortable. So well constructed that a day and night of heavy winds felt cozy, not drafty. Looking out over the river in either direction, you cannot see any other houses or structures. You’ve got this beautiful setting to yourself, along with the deer, eagles (saw two), wading birds and Canadian geese, and wild turkeys (saw many, including a LARGE tom turkey with about 25 hens). If you want to witness the Sandhill crane migration from a well appointed cabin/lodge, this really is the place. And viewing platforms at the Audubon refuge and roadside stops abound. 5 stars for sure! Also recommend Adam’s Corner Market in Gibbon for provisions and Rowe Sanctuary for “crane lessons” and a nice, affordable gift store."

- "I brought my volleyball players to a team camp at UNK for the weekend. This house was perfect for our stay! Plenty of room, fully stocked bathrooms and the best stocked kitchen for a VRBO house I have ever stayed in! The girls cooked supper for each other both nights we were there and it was absolutely wonderful! They played board games in the basement and hung out on the back porch some as well. We definitely would recommend this for any large groups looking to stay around the area. Only a 15 minute drive gets you to the UNK campus! Very helpful owners. We are located just off the interstate on the Gibbon NE exit. If you are here to see the cranes, the sound and views are amazing from this property. It is located between two rivers and the feilds around are filled with cranes in the early spring. You can see them flying above when you are on the back patio. Our home is located about 5 miles south of Gibbon on a sandpit. In our home there are 3 king beds and 1 bunk bed spread across 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king bed and full bunk beds. The master bedroom has an attatched bathroom. The other 2 rooms have a king beds. The 2 bathrooms are equipped with a hair dryer, some shower amenities and a shower for your comfort. The master bathroom has a shower/tub. Out back is a view of the sand pit where you can fish and kayak. There is a loft up the stairs with a poker table. There is a wifi code on the fridge. This part of Kearney has a solid mix of longtime residents, students, and renters, thanks to its location near the University of Nebraska at Kearney. It's a pretty walkable area, and getting downtown takes just a couple of minutes by car or bike. You'll find a handful of coffee shops, restaurants, and parks nearby, with most errands being easy to manage. The street is lined with older homes that still have a lot of character, and it stays fairly quiet even though it's not far from the action.

The space
You will have a bedroom with a comfortable queen-size bed, a chest of drawers, and plenty of closet space; a second small room with a desk, recliner, min-fridge, Keurig coffeemaker, and microwave; a bathroom with a bathtub and overhead shower; semi-private living room; and shared dining room and kitchen, all on the ground floor.

The washer and dryer are also available for your use. You'll have a share of space in the kitchen refrigerator in addition to your own mini-fridge.

If you're musically inclined, there's a piano. I don't use pesticides in the yard or gardens, so feel free to do some earthing. You're welcome to have a cup of tea on the tool-shed deck, and jump on the trampoline.

There may be another AirBnB guest in the basement guest room. That person will share the kitchen and dining room with us. My bedroom and main living space is in the basement, and I also have a small, semi-private sitting room/work space on the ground floor.

We are 2 miles Straight north of the interstate 80. You’ll love my place because of the coziness, the high ceilings, the location, and the views. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. For the crane viewers we have the crane migration right out our back door you can sit on our new patio furniture and watch them from the deck. You can use the kitchen you have your own refrigerator and freezer downstairs. Please do not book if your going to be after 11pm

The space
We live just outside the city limits of town where it is nice and peaceful as well as private and safe. Come relax and play some pool on our pool table or take a walk on our 13 acres of grass land. We have updated our queen bed to a new one with a cozy pillow top. If you want to book 1 room (queen bed) put 1-2 people if you want to book 2 separate rooms ( queen and a queen bed) you need to put 3-4 people. We do not allow people to sleep on the couches. Please DO NOT park on the lawn as we have underground sprinklers. If we are not home when you arrive the front door is unlocked and your room is downstairs please make yourself at home. PLEASE shut off all light s when not using them and before you leave this helps us keep our prices low. Please text or call with any questions. Thanks for looking. This is a smaller studio cottage where everything you need inside is just a few steps away. Delightfully quaint we like to say! :) It is located 2 min off of exit 272 to Kearney. It is on a business property but there is acreage to explore and the river views are a short walk from the cottage. (Just mind the cactus!) If you book during the work week you will hear some trucks in and out. :)
There is a front porch to relax on, though your view is mostly of the yard and fence constructed for your privacy.
Also trucker friendly! We have easy in and out access and parking for semis and RV’s!

The couch folds into a double bed so if bedding is needed for that, please let us know.

Also the bed is not accessible from the sides as it’s built in. So you must access it from the front as it shows in the picture. There is a step stool but it’s a crawl into bed so that may be an issue for some people. It’s a double and if you’re over 6’1” it may not be suitable for a good sleep.

Your reservation will provide you with all 3 bedrooms, private bathroom & a commons area. Original 130 plus year old wooden floors have been restored, bedroom floors are carpeted. Separate semi-private entrance. Separate A/C and Heat. Off street parking. We reside on the main floor. Close to the historical downtown. Unique pergola outdoor living space to relax.

The space
Our mailing and UPS/FED-X address is 1506 5th Avenue, Kearney, Nebraska 68845. You will find the entire second story of our home relaxing, peaceful, quiet and with a cozy at home atmosphere. All of the main floor 1888 door and window woodwork trim has been restored back to it's original state, including the original wooden floors.

We reside on the main floor of our home and we respect your privacy.

Access to the second story is via the beautiful and original open staircase from the main floor. There is a separate outdoor entrance to our home that leads directly to the living space on the second floor suite.
All three second story bedrooms and private bathroom are just off the commons area at the top of the landing. There you will find a natural gas fire place, a coffee nook, mini fridge and microwave as well as an Apple TV and a sitting area for reading, networking or social media browsing. We will provide you with a Guest WiFi password upon arrival. Each of the curved ceiling bedrooms are unique in themselves and all three have ceiling fans for your individual desired room comfort. We have queen-sized inflatable air mattresses available if families require additional sleeping arrangements. Just let us know about that so we can set that up for you before arrival.
An independent thermostat controls the heat and A/C on the second story for your convenience and personal heat/cool preferences.
Our historically featured Heritage House is located in an old part of the city. It was built by Judge Thomas Herbert Cornett and Mary Louise Culver Cornett in late 1887 and early 1888 and was one of the first homes built in our neighborhood. It appears on a Library of Congress Map of the City of Kearney 1889. A replica of that map is hanging in one of the bedrooms. Our home has a colorful past, if you are interested in it's wonderful history ask Chuck about it.
The Union Pacific Railroad played a major role in the early development of our city and the mainline tracks are still in use today. Most guest say they never hear the trains at night, but be aware that U.P. runs 24 hours a day through the heart of our city.

All guests have access to the entire second story of our home this also includes all outdoor living areas and the hot tub.
Laundry facilities [ON THE MAIN FLOOR] are available to you as well if you desire.
There are three entrances to our home, A separate and semi-private access is available to you as one of those choices. Each guest is provided a four digit code (typically your last four digits of your cell phone number) to gain key-pad access to the home. Ample off street parking and access to our private secret garden area is always available to you. Just come a relax and enjoy our beautiful old home and all that it has to offer you during your stay with us.

Other things to note
The Sandhill Crane Migration draws people from all over the world. If you are coming to participate in this annual event, please consider also reserving a spot in one of the Rowe/Audubon Society viewing blinds. Reservations can be made beginning January 2nd of each year [see us for details]. In our opinion - an early morning viewing is the best - however those spaces are limited and fill up quite quickly.
We are close to the University of Nebraska - Kearney campus and only a 10 minute drive off the Interstate 80 at Exit 272. We live close to the city's hiking and biking trails. We are only a 10-15 minute walk to the old downtown area called "The Bricks" that has numerous pubs, bars, eatery's and unique shopping experiences. We live just blocks away from coffee shops and grocery stores. There is a 9-hole disc golf course and children's municipal swimming pool three blocks away. We have discs for you to use if you want to give that a go. A second municipal Olympic sized swimming pool with a incredible water slide is only 10 blocks away. That park also provides a beautiful rock and flower garden with water fountains. If you enjoy kayaking, you should check out the Kearney Whitewater Trail. Kayaks are available thru a local independent outfitter.
The Kearney Hike-Bike trail is a 23 mile concrete trail that runs from Cottonmill Lake Park to The Fort Kearney State Park & Recreation Area. This trail is only about 10 blocks from our home and runs thru the heart of Kearney's most beautiful and family orientated city parks; Yanney Park. There you can enjoy a child's water park, picnicking, paddle boats, fishing, climbing the observation tower or just spend time looking at the flowers in the botanical garden and the enjoy the lake front looking for the swans and other waterfowl.
We are only about a 15-20 minute drive from the airport, that flies to/from Denver, Colorado twice a day and Chicago daily. The Cabela's/Bass Pro Shop Outdoor Gear Retail Store is located on the way to/from the airport.
During the settlement of The West, Fort Kearny played a major role protecting the prairie pioneers from bands of Plains Indians and wanted outlaws and marauders including The Jesse James Gang. From 1847 until 1868, all of the major trails; The Oregon Trail, The Mormon Trail, The Overland Trail, The Ox-Bow Trail and to include the Pony Express Trail all converged at Fort Kearny, a short 15-20 minute drive from your stay with us. On May 10, 1869 the Trans-Continental Railroad was completed and train travel ended the wagon train routes to the West.
The Great Platte River Archway Monument is a great self guided tour museum depicting the prairie Indians life, the settlement of the West, the building of the railroad and how Kearney grew economically with the Eisenhower Interstate Highway ( I-80) passing just South of the city.
Kearney is the host city to The Museum of Nebraska Art, as well as numerous other nationally acclaimed points of interest.
The Great Platte River Basin is the sight of the largest crane migration event anywhere on Earth. The Sandhill Cranes arrive and stay over from early February to early April as they pass thru the Central Migratory Flyway. This event brings people from all over the world to our city to view this incredible phenomenon. The Central Migratory Flyway also brings 1.2 million Snow Geese, Canadian Geese and well as all types of other migratory water fowl thru our area. The American Bald Eagle follows this annual waterfowl migratory invasion and can be seen sitting atop the large cottonwood trees along the Platte River. Come join us for this annual event.

The Montclair is a one bedroom townhome at Element 30 that provides a private living experience. This three level home allows you more space and opportunity to make the place your own. Element 30 is in University Village, a neighborhood adjacent to the state’s historic Highway 30 and the University of Nebraska at Kearney. There are 27 stairs to climb so you also get a work out.

Enjoy a quiet stay at Whisker Creek Ranch, located next to the beautiful Platte River.
It is a 2 bedroom rustic cabin with sun-room equipped with a trundle bed, kitchen, living room with TV, WiFi, bath with shower and stacking washer and dryer. There is 25 acres of land with access to the North Platte River, and only a short drive from the Rowe Sanctuary, and Iain Nicolson Audobon Center. Cabin is not ADA equipped.

The space
WiFi now available! Whisker Creek Ranch is located on the north channel of the Platte River and consists of 25 acres of wooded area along with a pond stocked with bluegill and bass. The cabin will sleep 6 and consists of 2 bedrooms, galley kitchen, living room and sun porch. The sun porch has a trundle bed. Quiet and surrounded by wildlife.

Guest access
Guests have access to all property not including outbuildings. They are welcome to fish, but no hunting allowed. There is some farm and heavy equipment by the outbuildings as it is needed to continue making improvements to the property. It is a work in progress.

Other things to note
Please just leave the beds unmade and put the used towels on the washer.
