This Rustic Cabin Retreat is surrounded by trees for privacy on 5+ acres, but is very close to town for the conveniences you may want while on a getaway! Cabin offers a full kitchen, bath, living room with wood fireplace, main floor bedroom with a set of double bunk beds, and a loft with a queen bed. The outside is full of trees, a trail, a small pond, and the creek. Wilderness galore with deer, turkeys, birds of all kinds! There's a "kid's fort" nestled into the trees that offers a little fun privacy for the includes a mini fridge, microwave, bean bags, futon in the loft, and a TV for watching DVD's.

- "We LOVED this cabin! It was truly off the beaten path, and a delight to vacation in. Dog friendly, there were multiple tie outs, dog houses, extra outside bowls, and plenty of things to sniff around the property! Our family enjoyed the spacious living room, and everyone slept well throughout our stay. There are trains nearby, but we have trains where we live, too, so train sounds to me are quite comforting! We will definitely book again next year when we come back out to visit family. So much to do in the area! We bowled, fished, hiked, went shopping, and ate at Alley Rose which was a great place! The house had everything we needed, and we watched a different movie every night with the DVD library provided! FUN!"

Important Things to Know About Our Home:

The bunkhouse allows guest to enjoy the unique blend of country life, while still being within 5 - 10 minutes of Kearney's restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, entertainment, fuel, etc. The ranch is easily accessible from town via paved roads, though note that the roads on the ranch leading to the bunkhouse as well as the bunkhouse parking lot are gravel.

The bunkhouse and entire surrounding premises are non-smoking of any kind. As such, this home is not a good fit for people who smoke.

The bunkhouse is pet friendly with some limitations in place to ensure that the home does not feel like a pet home to non-pet guests. Specifically, pets are not allowed in the carpeted parts of the home or on furniture. Various gates are provided to ensure that pets remain on the linoleum floored areas of the home only or outside in the large provided dog run. As well, all pets must be well behaved and not have an nuisance or otherwise destructive behaviors. Guests should indicate the plan to bring a pet in the booking reservation and an additional pet fee will apply.

The location of the bunkhouse on the ranch offers privacy and a serene, secluded location, though guests should expect the occasional passing by of ranch vehicles/machinery, ranch personnel, and horses and/or goats as a part of the daily working ranch operations.

The bunkhouse is located on an active working horse ranch allowing guests to enjoy the sights and sounds of a western style ranch amidst a lovely pastoral setting. Guests may observe the horses and goats, but feeding, petting or otherwise interacting with any of the animals in an unsupervised manner is prohibited.

The bunkhouse is accessed via a gravel road which is accessed through an automatic gate with a code. The code for entrance will be sent prior to arrival.

The bunkhouse shares the parking lot with a single RV site which may, at times, have an RV/camper in it during a guests stay.

Although we welcome children and infants please note that the home has not been baby-proofed, though we do now provide some baby travel essentials for guests use. Horses and goats travel on the road in front of the bunkhouse and there is also a seasonal water canal. As such, children should never be left unattended outside.

There are security cameras throughout the ranch, but please note there are no cameras at the bunkhouse to respect the privacy of our guests.

The ranch is within an 1/8 of a mile to the entrance of Cottonmill Lake State Park allowing guests to enjoy park access within a short walk or very short drive. The park offers hiking, biking, fishing, boating, frisbee golf, playgrounds, BBQ pits, swimming (seasonal), a nature barn (seasonal), wildlife viewing and more!

The ranch is within 5 minutes of the University of Nebraska Kearney.

The ranch also provides excellent access to Sandhill Crane viewing areas such as Fort Kearny (15 minutes) and Rowe Sanctuary (25 minutes). During the famous spring crane migration cranes also frequently fly directly over the ranch and feed in the neighboring corn fields.

This house was build in 1900 and still has the original wood floors. It is newly updated with all new appliances and kitchen. Electric fireplace to make your stay cozy. Close to downtown and interstate.

- "Adorable house in convenient location. Owners have thought of every detail when decorating and stocking this great little house. In town for a conference and all hotels were booked, this worked out great. I would make note that there are no private bedrooms as the doors are glass with no covering. This home is decorated with my homestead farm family heritage and Nebraska Native American history. Re-purposed farm items are intermingled with contemporary decor. Most of the finishing is hand crafted and connected to my memories of being raised a farmer's daughter who worked in the fields and raised livestock with my parents, brother, and sister.

- "I was in town for a conference and stayed at this LOVELY home with a colleague (and later a couple of other colleagues stayed with us for one night because we stayed up so late cooking and chatting!). It's less than a 10 minute drive to Younes Convention Center.This house had everything that we could ask for and more!It had a fully stocked kitchen (appliances, plates and utensils, even spices for making yummy avocado toast!, coffee, tea, sugar). The appliances seemed very new and were in great working order. We spent many hours seated at the dining room table (seating for 8), talking and eating. The bedrooms and living spaces were tastefully decorated and so, so comfy. There are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor and 2 in the basement (not sure why this listing said there were 3 bedrooms, there were 4?). The beds were very comfortable! The bathrooms (1 on the ground floor and 1 downstairs) were gorgeous with deep bathtubs for soothing baths. They had thick towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and blow dryers.There are 3 TVs - one upstairs above a cozy electric fireplace, one downstairs in a common area and one in the master bedroom downstairs.There is a place to park your car next to the house which is great. The host was very accessible through the VRBO messaging app and answered my questions quickly. Gosh - I hope every VRBO experience I have going forward is as good as this one though! It totally felt like "home". Thank you!!!"

Located one mile east of the Audubon Rowe Crane Sanctuary where the Sandhill Cranes stay during their annual Spring migration this just completed yurt sits directly under the flyway where the crane return to their roost every night. This is the only accommodation in Nebraska where you can roll out of bed and witness the cranes fly over from your own private deck. The photography opportunities are extraordinary.
Dancing Crane Yurt is the ultimate glamping experience that cannot be experienced anywhere else. A pellet stove (instructions provided) keeps guests warm and toasty. A small kitchenette allows for basic food preparation. A private bathroom in the yurt contains a shower, sink and composting toilet; however, the washer and dryer are located in the host's home just across the backyard.

A cozy cabin sitting on 3/4 of a mile of Platte River ground & directly on the sandhill cranes’ main migration path. These birds will put you to bed at night and wake you up early as they decide to leave the roost and head out to the feeding areas for the day. This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cabin with a large loft & sleeping area will comfortably sleep 7 adults.

- "This is a spectacular cabin that is right next to the Platte River with huge window views of the river flowing by. Thousands of cranes fly by and overhead in the evening seeking their spot for the night and they erupt in the morning from a nearby, more shallow waterway to head back to the corn fields to feed. It really is an incredible sight, and the warbling and trumpeting of the birds is a chorus of nature. The cabin is close to perfect, very well-equipped and comfortable. So well constructed that a day and night of heavy winds felt cozy, not drafty. Looking out over the river in either direction, you cannot see any other houses or structures. You’ve got this beautiful setting to yourself, along with the deer, eagles (saw two), wading birds and Canadian geese, and wild turkeys (saw many, including a LARGE tom turkey with about 25 hens). If you want to witness the Sandhill crane migration from a well appointed cabin/lodge, this really is the place. And viewing platforms at the Audubon refuge and roadside stops abound. 5 stars for sure! Also recommend Adam’s Corner Market in Gibbon for provisions and Rowe Sanctuary for “crane lessons” and a nice, affordable gift store."

- "I brought my volleyball players to a team camp at UNK for the weekend. This house was perfect for our stay! Plenty of room, fully stocked bathrooms and the best stocked kitchen for a VRBO house I have ever stayed in! The girls cooked supper for each other both nights we were there and it was absolutely wonderful! They played board games in the basement and hung out on the back porch some as well. We definitely would recommend this for any large groups looking to stay around the area. Only a 15 minute drive gets you to the UNK campus! Very helpful owners. We are located just off the interstate on the Gibbon NE exit. If you are here to see the cranes, the sound and views are amazing from this property. It is located between two rivers and the feilds around are filled with cranes in the early spring. You can see them flying above when you are on the back patio. Our home is located about 5 miles south of Gibbon on a sandpit. In our home there are 3 king beds and 1 bunk bed spread across 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king bed and full bunk beds. The master bedroom has an attatched bathroom. The other 2 rooms have a king beds. The 2 bathrooms are equipped with a hair dryer, some shower amenities and a shower for your comfort. The master bathroom has a shower/tub. Out back is a view of the sand pit where you can fish and kayak. There is a loft up the stairs with a poker table. There is a wifi code on the fridge.
