Direct route via N2 highway to the property. Try to make your journey easier by arriving in the day time and avoid peak afternoon traffic which can be very heavy also early morning 8 - 9:30.

The house has a Mediterranean feel set on a huge property nestled in the trees. A really short walk takes you onto expansive wide open beaches and enticing rock pools. Your break into nature awaits. The house is suitable for families (sleeps 6 adults and 2 children).

The space
The space is open, and inviting, with a large lounge area to relax, a patio with a braai looking out into the vast garden to watch the numerous birds and other small wildlife as well as a welcoming dining area to enjoy your meals or play a game of cards. In keeping with a break in nature away from the rush, we have a Smart TV with Netflix but no DSTV. Weber braai and fire pit to braai on also.

The entire house space is yours to relax in and blissfully quiet for nature lovers to enjoy. You can also enjoy all of the facilities on the park (Characters Garden Park) including pool area, ping pong, pool table, playground and more.

Other things to note
The name Characters Garden Park was born when walking in the grounds and coming into contact with an abundance of wildlife on the property. The numerous indigenous trees also seem to have a character of their own.

Our quaint sea-side cottage is located on Pennington’s favoured beachside Cherry Lane. Halter Cottage is positioned in a stunning expansive, mainly indigenous garden. The beach is accessed directly from the top of the garden. It is from the top of the dune that you can enjoy the sunrise, sundowners or whale watching in season

Pennington is 80 kms from Durban & 600kms from Johannesburg. This friendly coastal village is warm year round & home to Umdoni Forest boasting good birds fauna & flora

The space
The cottage has 2 bedrooms situated on either side of the open-planned living room. Both bedrooms have a king-sized bed made of 2 single beds. Therefore guests can choose to sleep either 1, 2, 3 or 4 people in different configurations. The master bedroom and is en-suite to a large shower which is partially disable-friendly. (The bedroom door width is 700mm and the basin is normal height). The 2nd bedroom is shaped as a rondawel and is also en suite. The living area is well appointed and comfortable. A small verandah leads off the dining area and has blinds for privacy or to allay the effects of the winds and rains. A conservatory leads off the master bedroom in which is a couch and piano where you can exercise your fingers.

The small kitchen, open to the living room, is well equipped being almost as good as home's. It has a hand mixer, hand blender, fridge/freezer, microwave, gas-top cooker, electric oven and dishwasher



The garden has an expansive area similar to a park but is also home to a beautiful dune forest.( it is to be noted that we do mow our lawn with an electric lawn mowers) The garden is for exploring or relaxing in and the lovely large swimming pool awaits you. An outdoor shower is situated on the path under a massive fig tree so that you can wash the sand off your feet after a beach walk or swim

The gate is operated with a remote. Guests have a dedicated parking place in the drive. Pennington is a place for great walks and mountain bike cycling because the village is worth meandering through and the Umdoni Forest's circuits and gorge are well worth exploring. The beautiful beaches offer small children rock pools and small bays to play in or even the opportunity to learn to swim. Those who delight in soaking up the rays have kilometres of beach to choose from or might do so right in front of our property. Of course, beach walks always leave you with fond happy memories. A gate separates the garden from the drive so as to protect little ones from car movement and the swimming pool has a good gate latch to ensure children are safely kept away from the pool.

Other things to note
Halter Cottage can be considered to be PARTIALLY disable-friendly. The door leading from the living area to the bedroom is only 700mm broad and the entrance to the main shower is not as wide as the normal wheelchair. In addition, the basin is within a vanity that stands at average height and has cupboards beneath. Although access can be made to the main bedroom via the 'conservatory', there is one step to overcome.

Our place is simply home away from home. Located in the heart of the coastal town Pennington, our property abuts a Conservancy with its beautiful Makamati Trail. Our place is within walking distance from the beach, shops and restaurants. Sitting on the porch you look straight into the amazing indigenous forest with its beautiful canopy skyline, which makes sunset absolutely spectacular!

Nestled in a protected forest, with direct, private access from the complex to pristine Kelso beach, Milkwood Beach House is a generously proportioned and well-equipped, upmarket 3 bedroom house with sea views and ample living spaces, in a small secure complex, only 45 minutes from Durban

The space
Milkwood Beach House has sea views from its generous, well-equipped kitchen, expansive deck, upper viewing deck and sheltered outdor dining and lounge areas , as well as from the well appointed main en-suite (which also has its own deck). Comfortably furnished in cooling blues and neutrals, this house has three bedrooms (two with queen sized extra length beds and one with two single beds) and two bathrooms (one en-suite). The outdoor shower has hot water for rinsing off beachsand and showering under the stars. The kitchen has a counter area for food preparation or indoor dining, a central island with electric hob and thermofan oven, ample work and cupboard space, a walk-in pantry, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and two side by side fridges- one a full fridge, and the other a fridge with bottom freezer. The house has a Weber braai available for guest use. There is secure parking for two cars in the garage under the house, which also has table tennis table and dart board. From the house, it is a short walk through a secure-access gate to the beach deck, shared by the complex, ideal for morning coffee and sundowners. Folding chairs are provided for guests to use on this deck. A few steps further and you are on Kelso beach, with beautiful rockpools and exploring, and, to the left, various options for swimming along the beach. The beach is effectively private, with no public access or parking nearby. The upper viewing deck is wonderful for early coffee and sundowners.

The house is serviced before arrival, after departure and guests may come to private arrangements with the domestic, subject to her availability. Please let us know (or the domestic) know what time she should come, or whether you will call her when you are ready for her, and she will try to accommodate your requirements. She does service other nearby units, and calls in extra hands when required.

Beautiful double storey home with spectacular views of the ocean. Enter the lounge into the cozy lounge that opens to a massive fully-fitted kitchen. The electric garage provides safe parking and is accessible from inside the house. Downstairs you’ll find a huge bathroom, with a spacious shower and corner bath. A large bedroom (queen bed) downstairs is ideal for our older guests that don’t want to climb stairs. This room also has a private entrance that opens onto the patio.
Upstairs is a dainty shared bathroom, with a claw bath.
One bedroom has 2 single beds and the main bedroom has a double bed and opens to its own private deck.
