RESEARCH DIRECTIONS TO PLASKETT CREEK CAMPGROUND TO SEE HOW TO GET NEAR OUR PROPERTY FROM YOUR LOCATION. YOU CAN STILL ACCESS OUR PROPERTY FROM THE SOUTH VIA CAMBRIA, OR FROM THE EAST VIA THE VERY NARROW AND WINDING NACIMIENTO FERGUSON ROAD. FROM THE NORTH, TAKE 101S TO 46W to 1 N. THIS ROUTE TAKES YOU THROUGH WINE COUNTRY, ELEPHANT SEAL VIEWING, CAMBRIA, AND THE HEARST CASTLE AREA. We are happy to answer inquiries regarding accessing the property.

THINGS TO DO IN OUR AREA: You can walk on the local bluffs of Pacific Valley and explore Sand Dollar Beach and Willow Creek and Mill Creek Day Use Areas. Limekiln State Park has recently opened one hiking trail. There are two resorts nearby: Treebones Resort with restaurant and gift shop and Gorda Springs Resort with restaurant, small grocery store and gift shop, cafe, and gas station. A 15 minute drive south, you can hike the Cruickshank, Soda Springs, or Salmon Creek Trailheads into the Silver Peak Wilderness. You can drive south to explore the towns of Ragged Point (30 min), San Simeon (45 min), and Cambria (60 min). Once highway 1 opens, you can drive north to the towns of Big Sur (1hr), Carmel (1h30), and the Monterey area (1h45). Or, you can simply relax on the deck and enjoy the 180-degree view of the Pacific Ocean and Cone Peak by day and amazing star-filled nights, depending on the season. Summers can be foggy. Fall is warm and clear. Winter and spring are cool and can bring occasional rain.

ABOUT THE HOME: The home is perched 800 feet above the Pacific Ocean with ocean and mountain views from every room. As you head through the gate at the end of the driveway, you will pass through a small redwood forest which leads to the 1600 sq ft off the grid home powered by solar and propane. The spring water is filtered and UV treated. This rustic home features vaulted ceilings with lots of windows to let the beauty of Big Sur inside. Enjoy the view of Sand Dollar Beach and Cone Peak from the living room and kitchen! Each of the two bedrooms has an ocean view and queen beds (2016) and linens. The two full baths are nicely appointed. The deck has a table with 4 chairs and lounge chairs and propane BBQ with propane provided. The home is surrounded by Big Sur gardens that change with the seasons. Includes Internet Access, a 55" TV for DVDs, an internet-based landline for short, emergency calls, and limited cell phone reception from the deck. Wifi calling is available. The home has on-site caretakers who share the driveway and live in the caretaker house located about 150 feet from the main house, behind a privacy fence.
ABOUT THE DIRT ROAD ACCESS: Located off of Highway 1 about one mile up a public dirt road, 4WD or AWD highly recommended! (4WD/AWD REQUIRED IN RAIN DUE TO RUTS AND SLIPPERY ROAD). In addition, for your planning, Highway 1 can be closed on very short notice in the winter (generally January-March) during extra heavy rainstorms due to possible mud and rock slides. We keep guests informed and provide options or a full refund if Highway 1 closes.

- "This is the second time I have stayed at sunshine alley, and I will continue to come back. It is a perfect slice of heaven in the south part of Big Sur. The dirt road is extremely rutted after storms last winter, but with a four-wheel-drive it is doable. Access to Sanddollar Beach is a lovely bonus. The deck at sunshine alley is hard to beat! The house as well, equipped and comfortable." - "This is the third time my husband and I have stayed at this property. It has not disappointed us any of those times. It is not for everyone. It is up a rutted dirt road, and there is little to do except hike, read, play board games, and enjoy some of the best views on earth. It is also off the grid. That is what we enjoy. But, if you want a noisy resort with lots of services and a restaurant, this is not it. We do our shopping the first day -- fish store, winery, farmers market, and grocery. Then we're set for our stay. The view changes regularly as the fog comes in, lifts, comes in again. On a clear night, you see the moon and thousands of stars. This year Highway 1 was closed just north of us. There was hardly any traffic because of this. The cabin has a nice kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Most of all it has ocean views out the windows and from the deck. The caretakers and owner were wonderful. I hope to stay again. Note - the road is just as bad as the photos show and you do need an AWD vehicle with some clearance."

Big Sur Stone House is a fully sustainable ocean view home in the center of a wide marine terrace with uninterrupted views of the Pacific coast to each far horizon.
One can hear the waves and watch the surf from seven rooms of the house.
The gardens and grounds of the forty acre property adjoining the protected lands of the Los Padres National Forest create a completely secure enclave above the Pacific Coast Highway. Guests often say that this is the most beautiful spot they have found in round the world travels.

Big Sur Stone House is available for individual and family events, weddings, stays and retreats. Other non-event stays for individuals, couples, or groups are set at a 31 day minimum.
The fully refundable damage deposit for long term stay is $500 The cleaning fee is $350.
There is separate contract for long term stay.

Sole access is by private gated road. The property has easy direct entry from Highway 1 by car, no need for a four wheel drive. You can even arrive in a helicopter, if you wish. We have an area for that and one of our favorite guests arrives that way.

The off-grid, three-bedroom home built with stones from the property itself was designed by its architect-owner who specializes in passive solar sustainable architecture.
The house is built in three closely connected but separate wings for the maximum amount of quiet and privacy, each with full direct views of the ocean. The Cottage Wing includes the kitchen, dining area, laundry, bedroom and full bath. The Studio Wing includes a large library and media room with a half bath; the adjacent Main Bedroom and full bath has single spa tub. A few feet away wholly separate stone walled Sunset Room has a magnificent view of the ocean waves and the moon and stars at night from the queen bed. There are also ocean views from the Sunset room bath and shower.

The house complex has a fully stocked library, including a complete collection of music CDs, an extensive DVD film collection. The house has wireless WIFI and HDTV satellite service.

The house has radiant floor heating throughout with tile and maple floors. The bathrooms and kitchen are served by both conventional and reverse osmosis water systems and have granite and onyx counter-tops.

Hiking trails for the Los Padres National Forest begin at the entrance to the private driveway.

There is a wide meadow to west of the house that accesses the coastal cliffside. There are two sets of wooden steps that allow one to cross a fence to enter the meadow and walk to the cliffside. The cliffside path has a descent of about 30 feet to the undeveloped beach which has many small rocky coves. The size of the sandy areas of the beach varies with the time of the daily high and low tides.

Location:
1.5 hour south on HWY from Carmel.

Access: 1/2MILE up a narrow dirt driveway. Only in case of rain, 4 wheel drive may be required to get up the mountain. We get about 30 days of rain between November - April. In otherwise dry conditions, 4 wheel drive is not necessary and most all vehicles are able to get up the hill without issue. We greet all of our guests on HWY 1 and escort them up to the property so there is never an issue of guests getting lost or stuck on the hill.

If you are uncomfortable with your car getting dusty and driving on dirt roads, please do not book our property. During rainstorms, cars very low to the ground do not do well on our driveway and would be advised against. We do not offer power for electric vehicle charging. We are off grid and all power is generated on-site.

Other facilities and amenities: Solar heated infinity pool, propane heated hot tub, outdoor kitchen with pizza oven, 2 outdoor showers, additional options for private chef, in-house massage, and group yoga classes can be book with 2-week advanced notification.

Backed into the hip of Clear Ridge like a stubborn Badger insisting on a southern exposure and an ocean view; stands the house at 'On a Clear Ridge'. The sod roof renders an undisturbed profile when viewed from the north. At the south elevation a series of glass fronted rooms and redwood decks stretches from east to west and gathers in the southern sun.

The room has one comfortable Queen size bed and a roll out sofa sleeper if needed. There is a mini split system for your heating and cooling needs. From the bed you can enjoy stunning mountain views; and during most of the year you can crack the window and let the sound of the creek lull you to sleep. Literal steps from your room is a beautiful hot tub and pool. Outdoor lighting illuminates the landscaping, but can be turned off if you feel like enjoying the incredible night sky while soaking with a glass of local wine from the Santa Lucia Highlands.
If you feel like stretching your legs, take a 5 minute walk down to our own creek. Stopping halfway down for views of our stunning cliffs.
We are 20 minutes from any town, restaurants, grocery stores ect, and thats a good thing.
Bring your own food to cook, or plan accordingly as you travel us. When you have "recharged" and want to see the sites, we are 10 minutes to the Arroyo Seco Camp grounds. 45 min. to the Pinnacles National Park with hiking climbing and a chance to see the incredible Condors. Just under an hour to Monterey/Carmel area with world class dining, shopping and art galleries, as well as the Monterey Bay Aquarium; and 1 hour from Big Sur.

The space
Built in the 1970s by Jazz musician Charles Lloyd, this property is nestled on 11 acres and features modern Japanese architecture and interior design. With six bedrooms across three buildings on the property, you'll have plenty of space to relax and unwind.

The Main House boasts three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, living room, three bathrooms, and a den. The dining area can seat 12 people comfortably, and the wrap-around deck provides serene views of the ocean and valley.

The Studio offers a king bed, kitchen and living and dining spaces, while the separate Cottage at the bottom of the property has two bedrooms and its own kitchen.

An independent modern office/workspace shed has an ocean view, as well as a pullout bed.

Stay cozy with wood-burning stoves in all buildings. Relax and unwind in the 8-person sauna, surrounded by the serene beauty of the property's gardens, complete with avocados, tomatoes, lemons and limes. And for those who need to stay connected, the property features high-speed Starlink internet.

The space
The cottage has a one-bedroom with an extra loft with a window bed.

The living room boasts 180-degree views of the rugged pacific coast which opens up to an oceanview deck, perfect to hang a hammock and spend the day.

Every room has an ocean view to enjoy. This off-the-grid cottage runs on solar power and uses propane for the stove and heater. Water comes from a freshwater spring on the property and is filtered at the tap.

Located off of Highway 1 about one mile up a public dirt road, the house is accessible by most vehicles with good ground clearance but due to recent storms that hit California the roads are pretty beaten up and a 4WD IS REQUIRED. THE ROAD HAS RUTS, AND DIVOTS AND GETS SLIPPERY IN THE RAIN.

The house is 100% off-grid with no municipal services and runs on solar power. Please plan meals not to use excessive energy.

Please note, there is another house on the property behind this cottage and the parking space and the driveway are shared.

Communication: There is no cell network or wifi in that area, please use the landline to communicate with me or for any emergency purposes. You can always reach out to your co-host. WE DO NOT HAVE INTERNET.

Water: The water comes from a natural spring and filters at the tap. You will get filtered water in the sink tap in the hot water option(down). We also have a Brita water Filtration Pitcher.

Electricity: The house runs on solar. Please be mindful of the lights. Due to the off-grid nature of the home, you should be prepared that power may not always be available. We have a generator and portable solar lights as a backup in case of a solar power shortage. The stove, refrigerator, and water heater work on propane and don't depend on solar power.

Other things to note
There is no mobile reception at the cottage or during the last 30 minutes of the drive. Please download maps and check-in instructions ahead of time to ensure you have everything you need for your stay

This home is located in the heart of Big Sur on a family ranch, a short drive from Pfeiffer Beach. You can either walk to the Big Sur Deli, take a short drive to Post Ranch, or cook your meals in the modern open-concept kitchen. The property sits 1,000 feet above the ocean where the Pacific meets the mountains. Watch condors and hawks sweep the sky, the fog curl around the coast, and the sun set on the sea.

The space

This is a green eco home, built with every care at minimal use of products that are harmful to our environment and our bodies. The house offers 2000 square feet of living space that includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms, laundry room, and great room, and features open beam ceiling and gypsum plaster with beeswaxed polished concrete floors throughout. The absolute privacy and quiet makes this home the perfect place to get away from it all. Listen to the ocean waves and watch the light and the reflections of the surrounding forest and mountains bounce off the multitude of windows.
In the three acres that surround the house, there is an orchard to explore, herb gardens, veggie beds, and flower beds.

The house is 1.5 miles up a dirt road and sits far back off our main road to offer absolute privacy.

There is a two car maximum and the cars need to have AWD or 4WD for the 300 foot driveway.
Please note that we don't allow visitors. The only people that will be allowed on the property are paying guests. If you are a part of a wedding party or have friends in the area, you need to meet them off the property.
The house is not suitable for young children. Please inquire if you have questions about that.
I don't accept second party reservations. The people staying in my home need to be the ones I'm communicating with.

Our beloved spectacular oceanfront home is on a large private family ranch in Big Sur.
Four bedrooms with small ensuite baths, two living rooms, front gardens with lawn , fruit trees, flowers and succulents, back terraces with forever ocean views, the Santa Lucia mountains, the coast line... Inside is full of family history, a few bumps and bruises showing age,loads of books, large stone fireplace, multiple couches to sink into.

Our home is available for reflection, relaxation ,family time, setting off on adventures, romantic moments. It is not available for parties or loud gatherings, thank you. It is our home first , rental second. We do block off some closets .We strive to be organic and eco conscience . We all drive a respectable 10 mph over property which is home to family and animals.
