We loved the snack shop downstairs. The breakfast manager was extremely friendly and welcoming. The breakfast had great options. We opted to just pay the 9$/kid and us adults just had leftovers from dinner and free coffee because 24/person for adults was more than we wanted since we weren't very hungry. Lastly, when we were a little slow in the morning they granted us a late check-out with no charge and no hassle. Even though they were doing renovations it didn't really affect our stay and overall the hotel was very quiet. We did not try the pool, I'm not sure if it was heated or not. "

This large, elegant studio-style room is in a newly renovated single-story cottage. It is perfect for a minimalist, extended-stay, traveling professional, who wants clean urban digs with walking access to cafes, restaurants, gyms, shopping, parks, theater & transport. It shares a bathroom with one other guest, has a mini-bar, fast fiber internet, monthly bathroom cleaning, an assigned parking space, & pay-per-use laundry on prem. San Mateo is 20 min. from Silicon Valley, SF & the ocean.

The space
Downtown San Mateo is perfectly situated and offers a lovely context for working away from home near Stanford, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and the beach. This room has lots of fresh air with large windows, and the climate is reasonably mild, with only a few hot or cold days a year.

It is approximately 200 sq ft in size with a medium size wardrobe, a desk, desk chair, lounge chair and full size bed with a medium-firm memory foam mattress. There is a small TV with a Roku streaming device and a mini-bar. There is an overhead fan in the room for hot days and an electric fireplace heater for cooler ones.

The location is designed to take advantage of the excellent local fare including gourmet and asian grocery stores and lots of fantastic restaurants. The in-room mini-bar (no kitchen) has a 3.2 cu. ft. fridge, microwave/air fryer, electric hot water kettle, Keurig coffee maker, filtered water dispenser, and dishes/utensils. There is a shared freezer in a hallway closet with a shelf area reserved for the room's tenant.

Although there is assigned on-site parking for the room, the cottage is only 2 blocks from Caltrain and there is space in the back to store a bicycle so a car is quite optional. There is also pay-per-use laundry facilities by the parking area in a separate building on the same premises. Local laundry pickup/drop off services in the area are also excellent choices.

The room comes with two (2) sets of high-quality linens (sheets, towels, etc.); and a few days of initial supplies like tea, coffee, trash bags and paper towels.

The bathroom is shared with only one other guest. It has heated floors, light-up LED defogging mirrors, and assigned towel racks, hooks & shower caddies for each room. The main area for socializing in the cottage, besides the room itself, is the front porch, which has two rocking chairs, a side table, and an outlet for laptops. Housekeeping for the common areas are included—they come at least 1 time a month to clean the bathrooms, hallway, & porch. Utilities, water, garbage, gardening, and high-speed fiber internet are also included.

Quiet hours are 10pm- 8a everyday except Friday and Saturday evenings are 11pm. The neighborhood is said to be reasonably peaceful at night during the week. However, it is by no means a quiet suburban neighborhood! It is near a colorful, bustling downtown. You can hear the train from time to time, and on Fri/Sat evenings locals walk downtown or relax with music and friends. Overnight guests are welcome from time to time but not for more than a few nights a month. Guest limitations are rigorously enforced because we aim for a tranquil, tidy place for people to stay and work.

Guest access
In addition to the front door, each guest room has a deadbolt with keypad access. The shared areas include the front porch, main hallway, & a shared freezer in a hall closet. Each bathroom is shared with only one other primary guest.

The landlord is on the premises fairly often in the flat at the back of the cottage. Each room in the house has an assigned parking space on the premises as well as access to pay-per-use laundry facilities.

During your stay
The other guests for the unit sometimes put their contact information on the Scrabble white board hanging on the wall at the entrance.

Its always best to use the AirBnB app for communications since someone is always monitoring that channel. Sometimes the Landlord is home in the flat at the back of the property--but we still recommend using the app.
