Boatel
Boat Rental
Powys

Be under no illusion this is like camping under a wooden roof! Not glamping or an hotel. Our spaces are Rough & Ready!
Boatel guests share the boat roofed shed with other guests and residents and no one has exclusivity on this structure.
The boat is old and dusty with the occasional spider, an unusual and quirky experience!!
The views are stunning. Sorry no dogs but there are two friendly dogs that live here. And cats and ex caged chickens.

The space
Set in an acre of wild flowers and up a mountain in the beautiful Dyfi Valley Biosphere the Boatel is literally a bed in a boat! Not to mention a beautiful open plan cooking and living space – all in a shed AKA the Boat Roofed Shed. Recognised for its amazing and unique qualities, it even won the infamous Cuprinol’s Shed of the Year in 2013. It’s our absolute pride and joy and we love sharing it with our guests!
We’ve hosted comedy festivals, exclusive concerts and curious tourists in our little mountain hideaway and Alex (aka DJ Badly) uses it to prepare his sets for festivals such as Glastonbury.
We built the shed in 2012 using recycled materials and it was our first major project. Alex is normally a rubbish DIY person, so designing and building the whole thing ourselves was a great achievement and we couldn’t have been happier to win both the ‘Shed of the Year’ Unique Category and the Overall category in 2013.
From the shed you can see across Cader Idris (part of the Cambrian Mountains of Snowdonia). It’s so beautiful even in the maddest of weathers, you can close the door, light the candles, pop some kindling in the wood burner and be snug and warm in moments.
Our guests all love staying in the Boatel - they love the peace, the location, the structure, the ambience, and the curios (Alex is a big collector and has been on Antiques Roadshow with his Poole Pottery collection!). As well as the relentless throwing of Frisbees for the dogs!
We supply all bedding but do not supply towels or breakfast.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to use the house if they need to connect to WIFI, use the bathroom or retreat from bad weather.

Other things to note
The boat shed has a fridge and basic cooking facilities, a gas hob with two rings and a grill. There is a field kitchen styled like a 1950's diner in an animal trailer that has running water, a gas over with two rings and cooking utensils. A compost loo and an outdoor shower which is attached to the back of the house that you access via the back or front garden and an outside flushing toilet.
It is very peaceful here, occasionally windy and military aircraft sometimes practice on weekdays.
You’ll need to bring your own towels etc. We also provide all bedding, tea, coffee and sugar.
Please note that we have our own private water supply from a spring. Our water is ultra violet and particulate filtered before it leaves the tap! It is a finite resource and not to be wasted.
