Splendid location, stunning views, huge and beautifully decorated living room and kitchen, we couldn't stop making photographs of it, and they all look like 17th century paintings... You can easily go for (dog)walks from your doorstep, and there's a lovely restaurant a bit higher upon the hill. Kevan and his mum (who both live in another, separate part of the large house) are very nice and helpful people. Highly recommended!"

The Contented Tuscan is a very ancient stone villa on two levels brimming with character and restored with total respect for its rustic simplicity. All rooms are furnished to excellent standards, in an elegant country style with old terracotta floors and original chestnut beamed ceilings. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a beautiful fireplace, log burning stove and dining/sitting room. This two-bedroom villa sleeps up to four people. The bedrooms each with queen sized beds and both have en-suite bathrooms. Both bedrooms are prepared with a double bed, but one bedroom can also be set up with two separate beds upon request prior to your arrival.
The gardens and plunge pool are for the exclusive use of the guests, in a private, enclosed terrace we a have a pergola providing a shady space to eat. What better place to relax with a glass of beer or wine and take in the stunning views after your day of sightseeing!

The villa is located in Guzzano a mountain village 4km above the pretty spa town of Bagni di Lucca. Many of the famous Tuscan landmarks are within striking distance. Previous guests have enjoyed day trips to Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Cinque Terra, Viareggio, Siena and San Gimignano.

The property is located in a mountainous region of Tuscany. Our guests can park directly outside the villa or in an area some 50 meters from the house and should not pose any issues. The owners live below the rental space and will be on call should you need any assistance.

The surrounding area is perfect if you are a keen walker or mountain biker. You can enjoy bird watching, fishing, painting and photography, as well as skiing and snowboarding. We are the first village above the town, walking down will take around 30-40 minutes and you can always hop on the local bus to return to the village.

Bagni di Lucca has a number of super restaurants, serving hearty Tuscan fare. You can also enjoy a post supper flutter at the recently re-opened casino.

You'll find a public swimming pool, tennis courts and thermal baths, along with banks; supermarkets and on Wednesday and Saturday mornings there is a traditional Tuscan market.

This is a luxury villa at extraordinarily reasonable prices. The 4km road from Bagni di Lucca caused a little anxiety around the narrow blind switchbacks, but we acclimated quickly. If we return to Italy, this is our first stop and for at least a full week!"

'Burlamacchi Villas' is a complex of 2 luxury CATERED villas -'San Francesco' and 'Casa Burlamacchi'- rented as a unique property with private pool, both completely restored in 2009 and 2020/21, which date back respectively to XIX and XV century. The complex, together with a small amount of nearby houses and villas, lay on an enjoyable and privileged position, within easy reach of the town centre of Bagni di Lucca (5 minutes walk), where a good number of shops, bars, and restaurants can be found. The local Spa resorts are situated at a short distance from the Villa (1 km), and are reachable by car or a leisurely walk in the green.

THE VILLAS
Rented as a unique complex of catered villas, they are both three-floor constructions for a total of 800 square meters. There is a professional kitchen where the chef will prepare you typical Tuscan and Italian meals, and an equipped kitchen on guests availability for snacks and drinks and some common areas in four living-rooms.
The bedrooms -5 double king size, 1 double queen size +single, 4 twins/double king size and 1 family suite king+twins/double king size- are all with ensuite new bathrooms.

The interiors, accurately and elegantly redecorated with XVIII and XIX century furniture, are typical of the residences of the region of Lucca. The precious and light fabrics, the meticulous attention for details, and interior lighting make all the environments very warm, cozy and comfortable.
In the summer the Villas are cool inside even in the hottest days, but on the top floors -the most warm area- there is air-condition; during the winter, their efficient heating system guarantees the residents comfortable and pleasant stays.

There is rich vegetation in the meadow and big ancient earthenware basins with flowers. The range opposite the villa is large, both with areas exposed to the sun and areas hidden in the shadow. There is a big table with chairs and various pieces of garden furniture made of wood and wrought iron. The place is most suitable for resting, reading or talking in the shades of secular trees. It’s also perfect for having a typical Tuscany dinner during a cool refreshing evening. Adjacent to the villas, running down along the hillside, there is a vast area of private terraced gardens leading to a small forest. Here and there one can find ancient stones and marble garden seats, rose bushes and other scented flowers. "Il Metatino" is a lovingly restored former chestnut roasting cottage, keeping it's original features, with arches, exposed chestnut beams and terra-cotta tiled floors and ceilings, with white washed walls. It has a couple of outside terraces, one with a pergola shaded by an ancient fig tree and another which is a sun trap, all have fantastic views with medieval hamlets and villages perched on the hillsides. The nearest town of Bagni di Lucca (the baths of Lucca) is 4 miles away down the valley and has all the amenities you could wish for, the historic city of Lucca is 16 miles away and the jewel of Tuscany.

Staying here gives you the chance to explore three important aspects of this beautiful region of Italy. Firstly, the art, architecture and civilised way of life in towns and cities - Lucca (18 miles), Pisa (35 miles) and Florence (60 miles) are easily reached by road or rail. Though they are further away, Bologna, Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano are all viable day trips by car. Lucca our provincial capital is truly a memorably beautiful town. The walk around the wall is the favourite walk of many locals let alone tourists, with views of the town on one side and of the surrounding countryside on the other. Bikes can be hired to add healthy extra exercise to the experience.

Secondly, there is the beach culture to sample. You will be a little over an hour's drive from Viareggio the main resort of the Versilian coast and miles of sandy beaches backed by the marble mountains of Carrara. The beaches are mainly managed by entry-charging concessions but there are advantages - umbrellas and loungers provided in your own space, freshly raked sand and, for refreshment, hot drinks, soft drinks, chilled wine and beer and cold and hot food on pleasant terraces. Further on, up the coastal autostrada and now a total drive of 90 minutes, Lerici is well worth a visit - a lovely little coastal town in a beautiful setting with a regular boat service across the Gulf of the Poets (Shelley, etc.) to the equally beautiful resort of Portovenere.

Thirdly is the Italy often hidden from the package tour tourist. This house is in the heart of a relatively unspoilt, hilly country region with the charming town of Bagni di Lucca just a ten minute drive away. The town has a three-pool facility in a beautiful, scenic setting, restaurants, bars, a range of shops and a local market. Villages are set in hilly chestnut forests where self-sufficiency exists alongside the use of local supermarkets. Footpaths and ancient mule tracks provide scenic routes for walkers of all ages and abilities. One favourite walk is the 15 minute stroll from the house to the well-stocked food shop in the next village! Another favourite activity has been simply sitting in the late afternoon sun on the courtyard, with an aperitivo, looking at the view and drinking in the atmosphere - along with the aperitivo of course!
