The Contented Tuscan is a very ancient stone villa on two levels brimming with character and restored with total respect for its rustic simplicity. All rooms are furnished to excellent standards, in an elegant country style with old terracotta floors and original chestnut beamed ceilings. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a beautiful fireplace, log burning stove and dining/sitting room. This two-bedroom villa sleeps up to four people. The bedrooms each with queen sized beds and both have en-suite bathrooms. Both bedrooms are prepared with a double bed, but one bedroom can also be set up with two separate beds upon request prior to your arrival.
The gardens and plunge pool are for the exclusive use of the guests, in a private, enclosed terrace we a have a pergola providing a shady space to eat. What better place to relax with a glass of beer or wine and take in the stunning views after your day of sightseeing!

The villa is located in Guzzano a mountain village 4km above the pretty spa town of Bagni di Lucca. Many of the famous Tuscan landmarks are within striking distance. Previous guests have enjoyed day trips to Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Cinque Terra, Viareggio, Siena and San Gimignano.

The property is located in a mountainous region of Tuscany. Our guests can park directly outside the villa or in an area some 50 meters from the house and should not pose any issues. The owners live below the rental space and will be on call should you need any assistance.

The surrounding area is perfect if you are a keen walker or mountain biker. You can enjoy bird watching, fishing, painting and photography, as well as skiing and snowboarding. We are the first village above the town, walking down will take around 30-40 minutes and you can always hop on the local bus to return to the village.

Bagni di Lucca has a number of super restaurants, serving hearty Tuscan fare. You can also enjoy a post supper flutter at the recently re-opened casino.

You'll find a public swimming pool, tennis courts and thermal baths, along with banks; supermarkets and on Wednesday and Saturday mornings there is a traditional Tuscan market.

If we return to Italy, this is our first stop and for at least a full week!"

THE VILLAS
Rented as a unique complex of catered villas, they are both three-floor constructions for a total of 800 square meters. There is a professional kitchen where the chef will prepare you typical Tuscan and Italian meals, and an equipped kitchen on guests availability for snacks and drinks and some common areas in four living-rooms.
The bedrooms -5 double king size, 1 double queen size +single, 4 twins/double king size and 1 family suite king+twins/double king size- are all with ensuite new bathrooms.

The interiors, accurately and elegantly redecorated with XVIII and XIX century furniture, are typical of the residences of the region of Lucca. The precious and light fabrics, the meticulous attention for details, and interior lighting make all the environments very warm, cozy and comfortable.
In the summer the Villas are cool inside even in the hottest days, but on the top floors -the most warm area- there is air-condition; during the winter, their efficient heating system guarantees the residents comfortable and pleasant stays.

We will offer you a selections of white and red wines to buy.
Special menus based on particular ingredients such as truffle, shellfish or similar, same as wine tastings can be organized on request.

There is rich vegetation in the meadow and big ancient earthenware basins with flowers. The range opposite the villa is large, both with areas exposed to the sun and areas hidden in the shadow. There is a big table with chairs and various pieces of garden furniture made of wood and wrought iron. The place is most suitable for resting, reading or talking in the shades of secular trees. It’s also perfect for having a typical Tuscany dinner during a cool refreshing evening. Adjacent to the villas, running down along the hillside, there is a vast area of private terraced gardens leading to a small forest. Here and there one can find ancient stones and marble garden seats, rose bushes and other scented flowers. Our villa is an ideal place both for those who search for peace and intimacy within the luxurious building immersed in green foliage as well as for families with children who can play freely in a natural and well protected environment.
Everyone will enjoy a refreshing jump in the pool, which is 10x5x1,5mt, beautifully decorated with mosaico tales and surrounded by two old big Carrara marble bath tubes original from the ancient spa.

Casa Tolomei is an original, historic, and beautiful villa located in the well-known village of Bagni di Lucca, Tuscany, within easy walking distance of restaurants, cafes, shops, supermarkets and banks.

About the area
In the immediate vicinity of the house there are nature walks in the woods, and along the river; and all services such as restaurants, banks and supermarkets.
There is a famous, very large open-air pool at Villa Ada (entrance just across the park from us) and they also have a children's pool and a bar/restaurant.
There are several restaurants within an easy stroll: the very well regarded Da Mamo (grilled meat, fish, pizza etc) is just a few steps away, and then there are the Circolo dei Forestieri (offering excellent, satisfying and very affordable lunch menus, as well as dinner), La Lira (a highly popular pizzeria in the style of an Irish pub), and Ristorante del Sonno which offers a selection of local as well as typical Italian dishes. Across the road is Bar Borghese which is a great spot for a cappucino, a pastry, and even lunch on their cosy garden terrace.
Nearby there are quaint villages nestled among the hills and mountains, the Canyon Park (a very popular adventure park), rafting, and a famous ski resort - Abetone - which is also a popular outside of the ski season for it's nature and hiking . The nearby historic centre of Lucca is not to be missed.

English poets Robert & Elizabeth Barrett-Browning were summer residents in this house during the 1850s, writing many enthusiastic letters about their experience, and working on their poetry.

Later, the immensely famous operatic composer Giacomo Puccini was a regular guest as he was a close friend of the owner of the house at that time.

The front facade of the villa is famously decorated with Liberty period (Art Nouveau) frescoes, while the garden facade has the classical period design dating from the 1700-1800s

Inside, several rooms exhibit original antique frescoes, including the stunning grand sala which is entirely covered in frescoes. Most bedrooms have original frescoes on walls or ceilings.

About our location:
We're in the historic centre of Bagni di Lucca, a few steps from all shops and services.
There are caffes a few doors away and the nearest restaurant is virtually next door (it has an excellent reputation).
A pleasant park with selection of specimen trees, a fountain and children's play area is across the street.
Across the park you will find the entrance to the villa Ada which has a huge outdoor public pool in summer.
Across the road, directly in front of the house, is a lane that leads to the riverside walk known as the poets walk, as it was here that English poets Robert and Elizabeth Barrett-Browning used to stroll while staying at the villa. In the centre of the walk is a plaque dedicated to them with a sample of their love poetry.
Thermal and other wellness activities are available at the historic spa establishments in the vicinity. A famous tennis club is a short walk away down the main street.
All around you can admire the elegant architecture of this town which was frequented by the aristocracy and celebrities of years gone by.
The well-known and popular Canyon Park (adventure park) is a short drive away. Bagni di Lucca is also a perfect starting point for trips to nearby cities such as Lucca, Pisa, Florence, or Viareggio and its beaches.

The accommodation is the entire first upstairs floor of the villa together with private garden. There are no other guests at the same time as your group.

Villa recently restored in Tuscan style to a high specification, in hills above Bagni di Lucca, but just a few minutes from town and close to the thermal baths.
Located at the gateway to the Garfagnana region, this is an area rich in medieval villages, imposing fortresses, spectacular caves and nature reserves.
The villa is ideally located for visiting the magnificent art and architecture in Lucca (25 mins), Pisa (55 mins), Florence (1hr 40mins) and beyond, but then relaxing in the hills away from the hustle and bustle.
The villa overlooks the Val di Lima, and there are plentiful outdoor activities in the valley and surrounding hills, or just relax by the full sized pool when even the incomparable Tuscan culture gets a bit too much!

THE SPACE
The villa is in a private location and not overlooked by any neighbours.
The main bedroom and en-suite bathroom are on the first floor and accessed from the open plan sitting room and kitchen area.
There are stairs in the corner of the sitting room leading down to a lower level with the two other bedrooms and bathroom. The bedrooms both have doors that open onto the lower ground level path.
The house is built into the side of a hill so although it is on two levels, both open out onto ground level, this keeps it cooler in the summer.
There is a high-speed Starlink wifi/internet access.
All the windows and doors have fly screens.
All bedlinen, towels and beach towels are included.
There are three dining areas that comfortably seat 6 people; in the kitchen, on the terrace and under a pergola down by the pool.
The pool is 15m x 5m with and even depth throughout of ~1.5m to 1.6
In addition to the three bedrooms and two bathrooms there is an outside hot water shower by the pool and another toilet in the utility room.
The house has been constructed with traditional materials - chestnut beam and terracotta brick ceilings, stone decorative elements, chestnut wood windows and doors and terracotta floors throughout - all of which, together with its hillside location keep the house cool in summer.

THE LOCATION
Bagni di Lucca is a short drive away or there are several footpaths that also lead down to the town from the villa.
The town has a number of restaurants, some shops, two supermarkets and several bars/cafes.
There are multiple outdoor activities available locally including; cycling, rafting, quad bikes, e-bikes, riding, paint-ball, trekking and a canyon park.

GETTING AROUND
Having access to a car is strongly recommended, although Bagni di Lucca is within walking distance and there are good taxi services too.
Bagni di Lucca also has a train station (in Fornoli) and the train service is regular, cheap and punctual with trains to Lucca (30mins), Pisa (60mins), Florence (from 2hrs 10mins), Cinque Terra (from 2hrs 47mins) and in the other direction, trains follow a scenic route along the Garfagnana Valley to Barga (10mins), Castelnuovo di Garfagnana (25mins) and beyond - see trainline(EU) for a timetable.

But the star of the show is the pool (so lovely), the gorgeous (and enormous) garden, and the views. The photos simply don't do this place justice. Julian was very communicative and helpful with information before we got there, and his team on the ground were great. We only scratched the surface of things to do - we tried canyoning, high wires and zip lines and paddle boarding, day trips to Florence and Lucca. This popular village has always attracted European holidaymakers, It is ideal for walkers and cyclists. The pool is ideal for cooling off and the garden is very child friendly. There are many walks around the village You can visit the Orrido di Botri a huge canyon it can be reached on foot through a Chestnut tree forest or it is a 10minute drive away. There is walking on the near by mountains Mote Giovo, Rondinaio and the Prato Fiorito. Every year there are traditional festivals celebrating the typical Tuscan food and wine on the 5th Aug. The village has a grand food festival eating all day! There is all year round activities in the area, Lucca hosts a huge Comic and Games Festival in Nov. In Bagni Di Lucca there is a Christmas Fair Market.

We never really slept a full night. Kitchen was extremely well equipped and plenty of room at the dinning room all eight of us. The couch and chairs were beyond there years of being comfortable. We had great hot water but there were no shower curtains & since the stall was very small the floor got a lot of water.It would have been nice for VRBO to let us know that no bath soap, shampoo or TP is provided by this property. The location was awesome"

- "Fantastic remote locality in the middle of an old village in Tuscan mountains. Fantastic, calm peaceful.. The pool, garden, terraces, and the whole genius loci are just wonderful. We had everything we need for a calm stay. The hosts are very helpful with anything you could possibly need. This is not a critique - just a heads up. This is an old house in an old traditional village with a steep curvy road and extremely narrow streets. This comes with challenges. It's a rustic house so you can expect insects and some wear out. But we absolutely didn't mind - the place is so beautiful that we almost didn't notice this."

The Villa is on two floors. The top floor has 4 large double bedrooms all with ensuite shower room, kitchen, lounge area with open fire place, another living/dining room, plus of course the loggia with its terracotta arches, stunning views and further seating. For those choosing the 6 bedroom option this includes also the first floor with a larger kitchen/dining room (35msq), 2 double bedrooms, one bathroom (with bath) and seperate toilet.

Bedrooms are made up with high quality white cotton bedlinen and towels. Pool towels are provided.

As many of the bedrooms are large it is possible to make rooms up with extra beds or to make some rooms with twin single beds instead of double beds. We aim to be flexible and we will try to arrange the rooms to suit your groups needs. Please contact us to discuss your ideal sleeping arrangements.

The villa is very well equipped with everything you need for your holiday: guidebooks, maps and local information, plenty of novels, DVDs and CDs (mostly English language) to choose from, board games and a wii video games console with a good selection of games.

A welcome basket is provided with local specialities, Tuscan wines, and some basics to ensure a stress free start to your holiday.

The villa is reached by a series of steps and is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

Le Mura Villa Tuscany Tuscany is simply our family home. It is a large traditional farmhouse dating back to 1600 in an idyllic setting. All the rooms enjoy the fantastic panorama. We have kept it very traditional preserving all the wooden beams and a piece of original fresco. The furniture is a mixture of antique and contemporary pieces.

Please look at the plan carefully as we actually have 6 bedrooms that create greater flexibility for groups. Some beds can be made up as single or doubles also extra cots and high chairs.
Bagni di Lucca local authorities have introduced a Tourist Tax of 1 Euro per person per day for the the first 5 days for over 14.

- "We stayed at this beautiful villa with our children, their spouses and our grandchildren and what a memorable holiday we had. From Le Mura, the views of small villages that lit up at night, fireflies that danced in the dark ,the sound of church bells echoing in the valley, magnificent mountains and the sunsets were more beautiful than we ever imagined. Celia and Enzo were amazing hosts, thoughtful, delightful, knowledgeable of the history of places in and around Benabbio, where to eat and buy groceries etc. We loved the villa, the pool and the hikes around the Tuscan hills. A short walk to the village provided us with an excellent restaurant and bar where we could eat in or take out food. The grocery store had most things we needed. We can't wait to go back."

THE VILLAS
Casa Burlamacchi is a three-story building of 500 square meters facing the charming Piazza del Bagno, an historical little square in the middle of a typical Tuscan Borgo, where the ancient thermal baths are located.
The bedrooms -3 double king size, 1 double queen size +single, 2 twins/double king size and 1 family suite king+twins/double king size- are all with ensuite bathrooms.
The interiors, accurately and elegantly redecorated with XVIII and XIX century furniture, are typical of the residences of the region of Lucca. The precious and light fabrics, the meticulous attention for details, and interior lighting make all the environments very warm, cozy and comfortable. In the summer the Villa is cool inside even in the hottest days, although the top floor rooms have air-condition; during the winter, its efficient heating system guarantees the residents comfortable and pleasant stays.
There is a professional kitchen where the chef will prepare typical Tuscan and Italian meals, and an equipped kitchen on guests availability for snacks and drinks, and large common areas in 2 living-rooms and dining room.

GARDEN
The back of 'Casa Burlamacchi' face the garden, which is spacious with a fabulous view towards the Tuscan valley and mountains. There is rich vegetation in the meadow and big ancient earthenware basins with flowers. The area in front of the villa is large, both with areas exposed to the sun and areas hidden in the shadow. There is a big table with chairs and various pieces of garden furniture made of wood and wrought iron. The place is most suitable for resting, reading or talking in the shades of secular trees. It’s also perfect for having a typical Tuscany dinner during a cool refreshing evening. Adjacent to the villas, running down along the hillside, there is a vast area of private terraced gardens leading to a small forest. This is where is located the vegetable garden. Here and there one can find ancient stones and marble garden seats, rose bushes and other scented flowers.
Our villa is an ideal place both for those who search for peace and intimacy within the luxurious building immersed in green foliage as well as for families with children who can play freely in a natural and well protected environment.
Everyone will enjoy a refreshing jump in the pool, which is 10x5x1,5mt, beautifully decorated with mosaico tales and surrounded by two old big Carrara marble bath tubes original from the ancient spa.
