This delightfully open cabin with two bedrooms and a perfect view of Porter Beach and Lake Michigan is nestled in the Indiana Dunes and just 53 steps away from magnificent Lake Michigan. The only thing between you and the lake is 53 stairs and a lovely sand beach. There is sleeping for 4 currently but the couch can be used to sleep 2 more people, all 3 beds are queen size. Ample seating in the living area includes dining room chairs and living room sofa with spinning chairs. The dining room table can be expanded to meet 9 persons dining needs or the leaves can be easily hidden away for a more intimate dining experience. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped with a full size refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, toaster, Kuerig cup coffee maker, and Central Air (Furnace/Air Conditioning). If you need a little retail therapy you can check out the shopping at the Lighthouse Outlet Mall.
Some great side junkets include Three Oaks which is about 25 minutes away. Sample a couple of craft cocktails and get a bite to eat at the Journeyman Distillery. A wonderful distillery occupying the historic Featherbone building, which manufactured corsets and buggy whips, back in the day. Be sure to visit Trilogy, and some of the other unique shops in the historic downtown district.
Bridgeman is also about 25 minutes away and have a couple of great breweries. Sample a flight and pick up a growler of your favorite!
The Red Arrow Highway is a great driving excursion with lots of restaurants and antiques shops along the way.
Need a nice space for a Notre Dame home game? This location is only 3 blocks walking to the South Shore train line which is a 40 minute ride to the South Bend airport and a quick cab or Uber to the game field. About 30 minutes by car.

There is wireless internet and a smart TV with the popular apps for entertainment such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon (not cable/satellite); or you could play some of the games we provided. The house sits on a large lot, about a third of an acre, with plenty of space for parking, fun & play including sports, and relaxing; especially on the wide wooden deck. When you arrive, you will be able to park right by the house on the property, up to 4 cars!
Beautiful Lake Michigan is very close to the house with beach access! There is plenty of room to bring kayaks, paddle boards, and fun beach items that you could store on the side of the house during your stay. There are trails, sand dunes, and woods of Indiana Dunes State Park and National Lakeshore Parks next door.
Property is located 45 miles from Chicago and accessible by train, South Shore Line. There is a wide variety of dining and entertainment in the surrounding area if you are inclined to explore or on a rainy day.
Plan for your stay accordingly, but here is a list of items to consider to bring: extra toilet paper, extra paper towels, personal items/toiletries such as shampoo and conditioner, laundry soap, charcoal for the grill, food, drinks, and whatever other entertainment items you would like for your vacation.

- "This was the cleanest VRBO we have ever stayed in! The beds were comfortable. I would say, if there were any downsides, it would be that the property was sparsely furnished, which meant there wasn’t a lot of seating in the living room area to watch TV, but it worked for our family. It might not if you had more than 4. But really, that was pretty minor compared to the pluses of this property. The walk down to the beach was pretty short, which meant we were able to walk down anytime we wanted to, which allowed us to go in the evenings when it was less crowded and enjoy the sunsets and swimming. There was beach parking, for those who didn’t want to walk, but as far as we could tell, it was $15/day, so we just walked down. The property was quiet and the neighborhood was too. It was only a 15-20 minute drive to Indians Dunes National Park. We didn’t go to the zoo, but it was also very close. The lighthouse museum and pier were nearby and we were able to take advantage of fishing opportunities while there. Overall, our stay was lovely and I recommend this property."

This delightful cottage is 1/2 block to the South Shore Train Station at 11th St. This unit is centrally located to local wineries, breweries, antiquing, Indiana Dunes National Park (15 minute drive by car), many restaurants, ND football (40 minutes by car), and Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets (walkable).

THE SPACE: This super cozy home has recently undergone a complete renovation. We would appreciate if guests did not wear their shoes inside, so we recommend bringing your favorite slippers. A boot tray is located in the foyer to hold wet/salty/sandy shoes. All fixtures, appliances, flooring, lighting, and HVAC are all brand new. Interior design is our specialty, and this property is no exception! With a charming mix of old and new, this space has been perfectly curated to make you feel right at home. Thick cotton towels, fluffy down comforters, high thread count sheets, warm lighting & fully stocked kitchen. Whether you're preparing a dinner for 2 or hosting a Friendsgiving, this kitchen can handle it! A crockpot, waffle iron, Ninja blender, plenty of bakeware and cookware, as well as serving dishes, are ready to assist your inner chef!

GOOD NIGHT: All beds have Serta memory foam mattresses. The primary bedroom has a queen bed with 4 hypo-allergenic pillows. The bunk room has a twin bed over a full size. Each bedroom has a small dresser.

TECHNOLOGY: A 55" 4K smart TV is in the living room. The Wi-Fi modem is located in the tv cabinet. We prefer you disengage from TV and other electronics during your stay and enjoy the great outdoors!

OUTDOORS: (Updated 2/3/25) Due to this renovation being recently completed and that its winter, the outdoor space is still under construction. The yard is currently sandy with some grass. Please message us with any questions prior to making a reservation about what might be planned for this area. We will update this section once the work & staging has completed.

CHECK-IN INFO: Guests who book will receive detailed check-in instructions the day of their arrival. The instructions will include the code for the door, wi-fi password, and other important information.

ADDITIONAL INFO: For group with small children, this unit is not baby proofed! Outlet blockers are not installed, furniture is not secured to walls, cabinet doors are not secured or locked. It is your responsibility to watch out for your children and guests.

Other than a few steps up the front porch to enter this property, once inside, everything is all on one level. This property is in a residential neighborhood. We appreciate our wonderful neighbors and aim to keep our property in excellent condition. We require interested guests have positive reviews from past trips on their profile. This property is located in a transitional neighborhood (there is ongoing construction at the South Shore train complex one block to the south, as well as a mix of year round residents and other vacation rentals nearby). We have other rentals in this area and have never received any safety concerns or complaints. If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out prior to completing your reservation. With regards to the South Shore Train, the train itself is prohibited from sounding their whistle, but you are able to hear the train depot bells that signal the train's arrival and departure. It's actually not very loud. Please note - There is a motion sensor light on the side porch by the sliding door that activates if people walk down the alleyway or cars are driving by. It sometimes comes on when travelers are walking past as they leave the train stop.

Smoking in any form is NOT ALLOWED in the property. Any evidence of smoking (smell, butts, ashes, paraphernalia) will result in an additional $300 cleaning fee, and/or loss of security deposit if one was collected. If a security deposit is collected, it will be returned to you within 24 hours of your departure once the cleaning team has reviewed the property and determined it to be in good condition.

From our many antique shops, local restaurants (indoor and outdoor dining), local brewery’s, winery's and, of course, the greatest of all the great lakes, Lake Michigan within a 5-minute drive - you will not want for things to do.

LAKE MICHIGAN/BEACH: Lake Michigan offers an electic beach front for beach glass collecting, walking miles of beautiful sandy beaches, sketching, family time, exploration and hiking trails. The newly opened Duneland’s Pavillion offers a wonder menu with indoor seating, as well as a beautiful panoramic view of the lake with an outdoor balcony Skydeck open day and night. If fishing "catches" your eye - our perch and salmon fishing is some of the best around. You can book your private fishing charter out of Michigan City (a short 15 min drive) and various water sports activities, as well.

Relax on the train and spend the day in Chicago. Catch any Chicago sports game, bike the lakefront or take part in any museum or attraction that Chicago has to offer. The south Shore train has reliable/direct service while you save on the tolls and gas charges and parking charges that come with driving.

NIGHT LIFE: CASINOS. Two Casino's are within a 1/2 hour drive from the House. Driving due East, the Blue Chip Casino is a short 20-minute drive to Michigan City. About another 15 minutes down the road is the Four Winds Indian Casino in New Buffalo, MI. NIGHTCLUBS: Gastro's Pub, Fuse, Blue Chip Casino all offer dancing and nightlife

Chesterton is a train town. We have several tracks running through our town which attracts many train enthusiasts from out of town. We are so train friendly that we have a train depots, bed and breakfasts, bathrooms, restaurants, etc. Although the town council is currently working on “Quiet Zones”, the Federal law requires trains to blow their whistles when approaching intersections one of which goes through our downtown are (which is typical in most small towns).. The walls are plaster which help insulate the sound. We have ear plugs and air purifiers for the light sleepers. Native Chestertonians do not hear the whistles, but, some light sleepers, may. The house is located within steps of downtown and occasionally, at night, a train comes through but mostly through out the day time. Our hope is that you will come to love our trains as much as we do in Chesterton.

Her home in Chesterton had everything you would expect from a private rental property and then some! Her attention to detail is impressive right up to the individually prepared arrival package she dropped off for our stay. She was able to accommodate a slightly early arrival (miscalculation of driving time due to time zone change) while still ensuring everything was ready for us. The town of Chesterton is a great example of small town America. The shops are a short walk from the property and worth setting aside time to explore. I could have spent an entire day in the antique bookstore alone! And breakfast at Peggy Sue’s diner is a must - Peggy Sue will get you day started on a bright note if the coffee isn’t enough. And of course, our daughter and her friend couldn’t resist visiting the Port for ice cream and root beer!
