Our cottage is the middle unit of three studio bungalows with its own designated parking. Oversized vehicles can park on the street. The kitchenette has a full size refrigerator/ freezer, table/ chairs, electric cooktop, air fryer, microwave, outdoor grill, coffee maker, toaster, and utensils/ plate ware for your dining needs. In addition to the king size bed, we offer a pull out Queen sofa sleeper for the kids or extra adults. There is wireless internet and a smart TV accessing multiple streaming services. Cable TV is not available but you can cast video from your mobile or iPad. We have beach towels, insulated cooler bag, umbrella / chairs and kiddie toys for the beach.

After your sunny day at the fine sandy Lake Michigan shores come back to the cottage to relax with your favorite beverage. Sit out on the patio looking out to the expansive courtyard. At night, stroll back to the beach taking in its wonderful tree lined path to watch the stunning sunset and marvel at the starry night sky.

The interior environment cleverly mixes the use of original artwork, artifacts, and antiques in a playful way that captures the essence of coastal living. French doors lead from the kitchen to a side patio that is adjacent to the beach path. Each bedroom has its own French door that opens to an exterior seating area.
The property has a fence as well as professional landscaping of the gardens offering you privacy while still being able to hear the waves on the shore.

Dining furniture sits under the pergola-covered deck and is an inviting spot to spend the late afternoon relaxing with a good book and a beverage or outdoor dining. Seating is nestled by the firepit for late evening star gazing.

YES, WE REALLY ARE THAT CLOSE TO THE BEACH AND WE TOOK PICTURES TO PROVE IT! So be sure to check out the pictures in our photo album. These pictures, together with our owner's map of Union Pier say it all--from our front door, we are less than a two-minute walk to the beach. (view map, then magnify a few times). We have DEEDED access to our beach through the Luna Gowdy Beach Association. Our beach is private for the residents of our small subdivision of about 50 homes. The designated beach area is about 300 feet of lake frontage, so there is plenty of room. Our beach is seldom crowded, although it is crowded for holiday weeks, like the 4th of July and Labor Day.

Another nice feature regarding the beach is that our unit is located on the lake side of Lakeshore Road. You never have to cross that road or any other road to access the beach. Our cozy condo/cottage (585 sq. ft.) is one of only nine units, surrounding a spacious courtyard. Our cottage is attached to another cottage. We are a corner unit and we share a wall on one side with our next-door neighbor.

When we renovated our unit, and we wanted to keep all of its 1930's charm, but we wanted to add some contemporary comforts too.We loved all of our cottage's wooden, wrap-around casement windows, but we added plenty of skylights as well.

Our full kitchen is complete with a GE dishwasher, Quartz countertops, a brand-new Whirlpool fridge, and a new microwave. Be sure to check out our photos.

When it came to the bathroom we looked for a simple vintage design for replacing the fixtures, but we couldn't resist installing a Jacuzzi bathtub. We furnished our cottage with mostly beautiful antiques that we have collected over the years. Most are over a hundred years old.

Even though it's cooler by the lake, we thought central air conditioning was a must for when the temperatures pushed too high. To eliminate those inconvenient trips to the laundromat, we installed a brand new LG combination washer/dryer (locating it in a bedroom closet, hiding it from view, but making it very, very handy). Doing laundry now is so much easier. However, we kept our outdoor clothesline up for those who still like to air-dry their wet bathing suits and beach towels.

We wanted fast WiFi, so we installed Comcast Internet along with Comcast Cable TV. We have a small DVD library, but we also encourage guests to bring their own DVDs for special movies and programs that they or their kids enjoy seeing. We installed the TV in the bedroom, due to all of the glare and reflections coming from our wrap-around windows and skylights in the living area. The bedroom location makes TV viewing so much easier and enjoyable.

We also have a hooked-up, Weber gas grill right outside our back door---no propane needed! Now, how convenient is that?!

Our cottage rental includes TWO parking spaces (designated on-street parking) and a huge outdoor common area (it is actually to the side of our cottage, about 35 paces from our back door) for picnicking and ball-playing......and of course, our rental includes the use of our spectacular Lake Michigan Beach. We think our private Luna Gowdy Beach is one of the clearest, cleanest, and best beaches in Union Pier! Besides being so close to Lake Michigan, we are an easy walk to the Whistle Stop Grocery and Deli and the Red Arrow Road House Restaurant (3 to 3 1/2 blocks).

We think our cottage is wonderful, but please keep in mind that our cottage is NOT a party house. Our cottage is much too small for a wedding or family reunion or any kind of party with lots of people. Remember it's only 585 sq. ft.--- that's little! Also, keep in mind that we only have parking for TWO cars. Our absolute MAXIMUM IS FOUR PEOPLE, THAT INCLUDES CHILDREN. We must abide by this maximum number, as it is also mandatory as dictated in our rental license with Chikaming Township.

Our cottage is located slightly less than 350 paces to one of the quietest, family-friendly beaches in Union Pier--McKinley St. Beach.

In a secluded setting, our cottage is surrounded by tall trees and set far back from all roads. It is difficult to find and we like it that way.

The master bedroom (with a king-size bed) on the first floor, has a door that opens to a large deck and screened-in gazebo. The adjacent living room has a vaulted ceiling and a wood-burning fireplace. Our fully equipped kitchen with custom cabinets, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances is located between the living room and cozy dining area with large windows and a patio door that leads to the spacious deck and piped gas grill.

On the second floor is the 2nd bedroom with a queen-size bed. This bedroom and adjacent bath are private with views of a huge front yard sheltered by 100-year-old tall trees. The 2nd floor also has a sleeping loft with a queen-size futon sofa that can sleep 2. All ceilings on the second floor soar to 12 ft.

Our deck is equipped with a large natural gas Weber grill and a screened-in gazebo with dining area. There is also additional seating outside the gazebo for a more open feeling. Our deck has an outdoor shower with hot and cold water and a fire pit with even more seating.

The setting is private with only two neighbors nearby; one in a single-family home and the other in a cottage identical to our own adjoined to ours.

We think our cottage is wonderful, but please keep in mind that this is NOT A PARTY HOUSE and is much too small for a wedding, a family reunion, or a party with a large group of people. Our cottage is only 1,005 sq. ft that's not very large. Also, keep in mind that we only have parking for TWO cars.

We have a SIX-person maximum occupancy, this number includes children.

When you first arrive at our cottage you may see other empty parking spaces in our parking area. The parking lot is shared and only TWO of the available spaces are ours. The other parking spaces belong to our neighbors and are NOT ours to give away. At times there may be parking available for a third car, however, it will be necessary to check with our neighbors prior to your arrival. We cannot guarantee a third parking space.

Please keep in mind that our absolute MAXIMUM IS SIX PEOPLE, WHICH INCLUDES CHILDREN.

Getting back to our beach, it is less than 350 paces from our cottage. Once you walk through the McKinley Beach gate and are at the beach stairs, and it is only 43 steps from the top stair to sand. The stairs are wide, with handrails, and are broken up by two landings--one of them is large enough to have seating for six people. Once on the beach, look around you. You have the magnificence of Lake Michigan in front of you and in back of you, the sylvan charm of a wooded setting. Even though it is a small, public beach, it usually feels private and is one of the loveliest and most family-friendly beaches in Harbor Country.

Inside and out, our cottage is the perfect retreat. Nestled amoung 100-foot tall Norway Spruce pines, it is only a block to your own private 'singing sands' beach of Lake Michigan. Union Pier beaches are the softest and widest in SW Michigan! And, it is only a block and a half to great little bakery and breakfast places, coffee and latte shops, unique restaurants and even fine dining. Or you can just stay at the cottage, sit on the front deck, grill your own favorite fare and watch the passer's by.

We are centrally located in the heart of Union Pier just off of the main road into town. Easy to get to, and easy to go to other attractions such as the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, various seasonal Art Fairs, Fruit Farms, Antiquing, or just 'Heading up the Red Arrow Highway'.

**Please note that we do have a 2 night minimum, however in the high summer season we rent mostly for one week increments from Saturday to Saturday. We do try to accommodate as many people as we can. - Events of any kind are prohibited at this property, no exceptions.
- No excessive noise, fireworks, or hunting allowed.

- No smoking inside the house or on the property.

Beautifully decorated and fully furnished cottage less than 1 block
from the Berrien Street beach in Union Pier Michigan.
We bought this two bedroom, two bath cottage in 1999 after walking past it each day on our way to the beach while it was under construction. It has five skylights and vaulted ceilings so that it feels like a large cottage by the beach. A kitchen with all the amenities will allow you to make the beach lunches as well as a dinner when you decide to cook instead of going out.

- "This is our 6th year. This home is clean, modern, and lovely. Two block easy walk to the beach, not crossing highway or busy street. Short walk to Whistle Stop Cafe- great breakfast, coffee, deli items. Close to Union Pier, Three Oaks, and New Buffalo- great dining, antiques, and shopping. Near Warren Woods for hiking and Warren Dunes. But it’s the home that keeps us coming back. Two full baths, w+d, wifi, 3 TV’s with Roku, great neighborhood. It’s very well-decorated, with nice furniture and very comfy beds. Other places we’ve rented are run down and have the philosophy that you are “out at the beach all day and just need a basic place to sleep”. We like a nice indoor place too for board games, puzzles, cooking, or watching movies. We had an usually cold week this year, but still an awesome vacation because we had such a great place to just hang out indoors. If you want a beautiful house in a great location with top notch hosts -this is the place. We love it. You would too!"

**Everyone must review the rental agreement which is comprehensive: lists the terms of the rental agreement, the dog waiver (if you are bringing a dog), provides suggested packing items, lists the hot tub rules (for Main House only).

**Please designate upon checking out if you are bringing a dog so you can have the pet fee added onto your final total.

**Note that Cottage 1 shares a wall with the far hallway corner of the Main House but as of 2022, we've added insulation and other measures to ensure noise transfer is drastically minimized. Cottage 1 and 2 used to have an interior door that locked but it was the source of noise transfer so in Spring of 2022, we closed up that door and added insulation in the units to minimize noise transfer. Cottages 4 and 5 share no walls as they stand alone on the property. All cottages have a pull out couch, and the Main House has 2 pull out couches, one in each king bedroom.

**From Memorial Day to Labor Day we require 3 night minimum stay, but a 7 night stay (Fri-Fri) is required in the heart of the summer, from June through beginning of August unless the week is already broken up.

**Well behaved dogs are welcome. Pets are required to be on leash outside of fenced yard, and you are required to pick up after them or fee will be assessed.

**Note our suggested packing items we provide right before your arrival. Starter paper towels, toilet paper, and garbage bags are provided but you'll have to bring your own after the starters. We don't do this because we're cheap or insensitive. We do this because we are not often in the area to run these kinds of things over, and we also like for guests to be respectful of the environment which we've noticed happens more often when guests bring their own disposable supplies. Come explore Elephant Walk, a dog-friendly compound, walkable to beach and town, designed to make memories for your group. It provides multiple gathering spots both outside and in while ensuring ample privacy at the same time. Our Main House offers giant living spaces to accommodate the whole group and provides 4 very large bedrooms and 3 baths. On the same grounds, there are 5 smaller cottages that offer full kitchens/bathrooms/living spaces and house 1-2 bedrooms each. We allow large group bookings only (Main House + at least 2 cottages) until late Fall of each year at which point we'll open up the calendar for anyone to reserve the house and cottages separately and allow for instant booking. Please message us for details, and we will respond within 24 hours.

**Everyone must review the rental agreement which is comprehensive: lists the terms of the rental agreement, the dog waiver (if you are bringing a dog), provides suggested packing items, lists the hot tub rules (for Main House only).

**Please designate upon checking out if you are bringing a dog so you can have the pet fee added onto your final total.

**Note that Cottage 1 shares a wall with the far hallway corner of the Main House but as of 2022, we've added insulation and other measures to ensure noise transfer is drastically minimized. Cottage 1 and 2 used to have an interior door that locked but it was the source of noise transfer so in Spring of 2022, we closed up that door and added insulation in the units to minimize noise transfer. Cottages 4 and 5 share no walls as they stand alone on the property. All cottages have a pull out couch, and the Main House has 2 pull out couches, one in each king bedroom.

**From Memorial Day to Labor Day we require 3 night minimum stay, but a 7 night stay (Fri-Fri) is required in the heart of the summer, from June through beginning of August unless the week is already broken up.

**Well behaved dogs are welcome. Pets are required to be on leash outside of fenced yard, and you are required to pick up after them or fee will be assessed.

**Note our suggested packing items we provide right before your arrival. Starter paper towels, toilet paper, and garbage bags are provided but you'll have to bring your own after the starters. We don't do this because we're cheap or insensitive. We do this because we are not often in the area to run these kinds of things over, and we also like for guests to be respectful of the environment which we've noticed happens more often when guests bring their own disposable supplies. - "Cottage was very nice and had everything we needed but wasn’t quite big enough for 3 of us. It was pretty cramped when we did want to just chill or play a game. It would’ve been a great place for just my husband and I for a getaway. We were blessed with great weather so we really went and did stuff each day all day. It was nice and close also to the beach which was stunning. The whole complex does not have great internet either we never could stay connected if that’s important to you if you have work to do or even want to watch a movie on your personal fire stick. Wonderful place to unplug though. The owners were available also if needed. Cute quaint cottage!!"
