- "This was the perfect spot for a restful getaway. The property is peaceful and the house is stunning. Guest apartment is well-appointed, even providing little extras like coffee, chocolates at the bedside, and everything a person could possibly need for a first-class stay. Host Nancy is delightful—friendly, prompt in communication, and just a lovely person. Her assistant, border collie Wheezie, was sweet and friendly too. Our Labrador was along on the trip and he gives Wheezie 5 stars. We enjoyed hanging out on the covered patio, swimming in the lake, and checking out Lynchburg. On days that we preferred to stay put, we watched a doe and her fawns grazing, swallowtails frequenting the butterfly bush, and even a hummingbird who came up to the patio to see what we were having for dinner! The evenings were a chorus of woodland and lake creatures serenading. We felt rested and renewed when we reluctantly headed home, and would highly recommend this beautiful place. We plan to return!"

I really enjoyed listening to the jazz blue notes album on the record player while getting dressed for the wedding. I felt pampered. Liberty's Campus is constantly growing and expanding with new construction. For a fun outing, take the kids tubing or skiing at Snow Flex, Liberty's year round ski slope, try ice skating at LaHaye Ice Center or enjoy the amazing views from the top of the Liberty Tower.

- Disc Golf:
There are a dozen or more disc golf courses in our area Including New London which will be hosting the World Championship 2024 practice putting in the backyard with our basket!

-Amazement Square
If you're in the area with young children Amazement square is a must. Our Award winning children's museum in a renovated historic building is unlike anything you've ever experienced. Four stories of ladders and slides for the kids plus tons of fun, interactive exhibits.

-Poplar Forest & Appomattox Court House
Our history buffs might enjoy touring the Thomas Jeffersons summer home, Poplar Forest or visiting the site where our nation reunited after the Civil War.

-Winers & Breweries
There are many wineries and breweries along the 152 corridor; 1 hour away and downtown lynchburg has new breweries to enjoy!

-Natural Bridge State Park
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places; Natural Bridge is only 45 min away!

-Virginia Safari Park
A fun attraction for the whole family just under an hour away.

Our cozy cabin features a private master bedroom. The two twin beds have a low ceiling in the loft and are accessible via ladder only. This arrangement may not be comfortable or safe depending on age and dimensions of guests so use at your own discretion. The couch is also a very suitable sleeping option.

Kitchen has apartment size (4 burner) stove, toaster oven, microwave and full-size fridge. Keurig with coffee. Pots, pans, plates & cups. Bathroom is stocked with towels, wash clothes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, first aid kit and hair dryer.

Cellular service is very limited in this area. US Cellular has very weak signal and no other carriers are available. Make sure to note the Wi-Fi SSID and password ahead of your trip. Wi-Fi calling works very well but may need to be enabled in the settings of your device.

Outside, you will find a large, lit covered patio with stone fireplace overlooking Overstreet Creek with the base of Headforemost Mountain beyond.

Overstreet Creek is a native trout stream in a fairly remote and heavily wooded area. The creek attracts an abundance of critters, pests, and dangerous wildlife so please be careful - this is their home too.

Our property has rocky, uneven terrain and our landscaping is a work in progress.

- "Just perfect" - "Our stay at the Black Bear Lodge was fantastic. Remote, quiet, right in the middle of nature; we saw so many local animals. The WiFi in the cabin helped keep us connected to the outside world as needed (no cell service). We explored various attractions in the area, Natural Bridge state park, the caverns, the safari park, and went into Bedford for some antiquing and the farmers market. But honestly, the highlight of our trip was Black Bear Lodge itself. It’s nestled in the woods off a dirt road next to a beautiful little river. We played in the water, made s’mores in the outdoor fireplace, played card games with our kids. It was exactly what we needed and I could feel my stress melt away. Brandy was a super receptive host, easy to communicate with, and the cabin was clean and well stocked with all the necessities. We grabbed some food and drinks from a local store and looked forward to returning to the cabin each afternoon after exploring the area. We will definitely be back to Black Bear Lodge."

Large daylight basement apartment in upscale neighborhood. Back yard of 1.5 acres of wooded trails. Your apartment has wifi access, 40" HDTV, blu ray disc player, full size pool table, microwave, laundry room. patio. All linens and towels provided. The bedroom is cool (but lots of extra blankets and heaters too if you need them). There can be some noise from the upstairs of the house, but we strive to keep things quiet for guests from 9PM to 6AM. Some basic kitchen utensils too. The apartment is about 900 square feet. One separate bedroom, but also two couches and other available single mattress too.

Once the kitchenette is completed this will be a comfy & convenient getaway. However, even without the kitchenette completed this is a clean, well-maintained place to stay.
