The view from the kitchen is stunning, with the sea rising from the mist in the morning, and ending the day in a glorious sunset (on the sunny days, of course, of which we were lucky enough to experience a few). The rental is well situated, near some great restaurants (we especially liked The Boreal Diner and Two Whales) and numerous hiking trails. The Historical Ellis Saint house sits about 50 yards from the ocean with a breath taking view like no other. The exterior of the house has been brought back to its original state has it first sat over 120 years ago when it was occupied by the Saint family. We try to be as sustainable as possible and support local as much as possible. We “ iron in the wind “ you’ve probably seen the Newfoundland tourism ad’s of laundry on the clothes lines. Basics for you to use, locally made soaps by East Coast Glow and the fabulous salt by Newfoundland Salt Company to name a few. When in season, Doreen pops by with organic veggies you can buy directly from her. The entire house is filled with original art, much of it local, vintage and quirky "stuff". We do not charge a cleaning fee and thus ask our guests to leave the house clean and tidy please. The sunset photographs, are taken from the garden, no filter! - "We spent 3 nights/4 days at Ruth's lovely studio. The ocean is directly in front of you with huge panoramic windows to enjoy the sunsets, whales and seabirds. The location is easy to find and central to most area attractions. You could walk to the harbour/downtown area, but it was very hot when we were there, so we drove where we needed to go. Chairs and a little firepit right across the road provided a beautiful spot to enjoy the view and watch for whales. Bed was comfy, although extra pillows would be good, and lighter bedding for summer would also be useful as the beautiful duvets were pretty heavy. Air conditioning was appreciated! The kitchen was well stocked, and having a washer/dryer in the suite was great. One suggestion--some curtains or blinds on those big windows would be nice to provide some privacy after dark. Overall, this unit is highly recommended as one of the best places you'll find in beautiful Bonavista! Ruth was easy to reach, welcomed us herself, and responded quickly to any inquiries."

This unique, open concept studio has a style all its own. This was my gallery, shop & artist studio, modern yet simple. Live like artists do. No tv, or dishwasher, European fridge - cuz we buy local, fresh, daily. Lot's of books to read in case it's a rainy day and across the street our garden with fire pit to hang out.
It's the perfect place for anyone wanting a break, getting away from it all, and slowing down. Views are of the North Atlantic Ocean but when sitting down you have privacy.

It is an open concept, modern, art filled, (much of which you can purchase) and mixture of vintage/antique furniture, with a 1960’s simple cottage look. Has all you need, fridge is standard European size, (mini fridge with small freezer), standard stove and amenities. The shower is 36” but entrance is a little narrow, (my design flaw). The floors are cement, lots of rugs and comfortable sofa for lounging.

You will be downstairs with your own access. I am currently working on the garage/studio space which won't be available until next season

Other details to note
Coming in the winter months can be challenging and though we don't get much snow...when we do, it's usually a big dump. There is a shovel and salt available for your use at any time.

Windy Climate: Newfoundland is known for its windy weather, and ArtBonavista Retreat is situated in one of Bonavista's windiest spots. Witness the awe-inspiring waves crashing onto the cliffs, but remember to always close all windows before leaving the house for sightseeing to avoid any issues.

No Hot Tub: Please note that ArtBonavista Retreat does not have a hot tub. If you're looking for a relaxing soak, we have plenty of other amenities and breathtaking views to offer.

Age Restrictions: To book your accommodations, you must be 21 years of age or older. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Child Friendly

The Historical Ellis Saint house sits about 50 yards from the ocean with a breath taking view like no other. The exterior of the house has been brought back to its original state as it first sat over 120 years ago when it was occupied by the Saint family. It stands with 4 decks offering barbecue and a fire pit for a your enjoyment. Inside has a taste of the old mixed with new, with a beautiful sitting room on the 3rd floor with a tv & a pull out bed for those quiet and private times.
