- "Very good" - "I liked the pool… but not sure where you get the towels for the pool… great pool too" - "Walking distance to where i need to go " - "Our stay here was great! The hotel was very clean, the staff were excellent. It was exactly as described! The only downfall was that I thought they had a hot tub, turns out to be a foot deep cold kiddie pool (?). But that may have been just my misinterpretation of the pictures. I would definitely return!"

- "Pleasant 10 d stay in a beautiful house with 1a sea view. Quiet and beautiful place with lots of nature around, like humming birds, eagles and rabbits. Beautiful flowers around the house. Very good communication with the owners. Super stay and recommend to book." - "Immediately we were taken by the spectacular view…. Almost magical. The house was very clean and comfortable and high end materials were used throughout. Be prepared to travel a distance to see sights, but it was worth it. We had torrential rains at one point, but we felt safe because of the all house generator. We highly recommend this property because of the location and amenities and the friendly correspondence with the owner."

This home is a welcoming retreat for artists and anyone who values quiet and seclusion. It is decorated in an eclectic mix of antique items (including a cannister set from the 1880's once belonging to my great-grandparents in the Netherlands) to original works of modern art. The open concept mini home was renovated in 2021/22 to provide everything you could hope for in a vacation home: A/C, updated kitchen, sliding doors to a huge screen room, woodstove and ensuite bathroom. Please note - the house is on a steep hill so if you are towing a heavy trailer, or your vehicle needs a brake job - this may not be the rental for you.
- "Nice place but need to replace the beds. Really liked having two washrooms for four adults. It was unfortunate that it rained so much. I would rent again if I was coming back to the area." - "We had everything we needed and more in this well-appointed unit." - "Beautifully equipped cottage for those that want to stay close to Bridge to Cape Breton but still enjoy some quiet and privacy. Couldn’t ask for more." - "Renny’s place is exactly as advertised. Great view and excellent positioning for our daylong exploration. Renny provided some excellent insight into nearby places (beaches and an island) to visit. We particularly liked the beach she recommended (Point Michaud). A beautiful and tranquil Nova Scotia beach. One place we enjoyed that we happened upon was the Musgrave Museum. The gentleman who runs the facility was a true pleasure to visit with and learn some history about the surrounding area. We found Renny’s place to offer good value and a great base for our daily pursuits."

The Bluenose House offers an overwhelming panoramic view to the south of the sparkling sea and the offshore islands. Several generations, couples, water sports enthusiasts will enjoy the tranquility and the view of the protective islands. Not a single building or wind turbine disturbs the view of the landscape protection area.
A staircase leads from the Bluenose house directly to the private fine pebble beach on a small footbridge for the kayaks or to the sandy beach of the house Yellownose.
Both houses can be rented from June to December for approx. 165 euros per day with 4 people (max. 6) in the low season from approx. 110 euros, plus final cleaning and 15% tax. Both non-smoking houses are built according to European standards (additional 220V sockets) and biologically allergy-friendly.
We have traveled for years, sailed more than 10,000 miles from the Mediterranean through the Caribbean and Bermuda to our new home in Canada and saw beautiful islands along the way. But Cape Breton's natural unspoilt beauty has surpassed it all. In 15 years we have seen nothing more beautiful from water and land than this magical place. Hundreds of enthusiastic guest book entries document on our website that our guests also feel the incomparable specialty of this location. Since we immigrated in 2012, we can undertake sailing or fishing trips in your language and give the best tips if desired.
In Continental U. S. and Canada, Cape Breton was named the No. 1 top island in the renowned travel magazine “Travel & Leisure” in 2011, the third most beautiful island in the world and in 2014 one of the 10 most romantic islands in the world.
No house, no power line, nothing disturbs the breathtaking panoramic view from the Bluenose House. Occasionally, friendly lobster fishermen greet with an Irish, French accent and tell of their immigrant, sometimes German ancestors. Supermarkets and hospital can be reached in a few minutes. We like to go to the nearby wonderfully protected bays with our fishing boat and show our guests the magic of the forests and coasts from the sea, see eagles, seals, hummingbirds, often also whales, and enjoy the fish we have caught ourselves.
The light is more intense here than anywhere else in the world, the colors are more brilliant, you have to let Nova Scotia work its magic on you. The coasts are deeply cut with countless bays and fjords. The island of Cape Breton in the northeast with the Bras d`Or Lake (twice the size of Lake Constance) offers crystal-clear water and excellent fishing opportunities. People love their traditions. Scottish bagpipe or Irish fiddle music is played on every occasion. There are Scottish highland festivals and tap courses. The French Akadiers are happy about a "Bon Jour", but they all speak English.
Nova Scotia is different. Special, very lovable, wild and lovely at the same time. The landscape is often compared to the Scandinavian countries, slightly mountainous, green, crossed by lakes and large forest areas with elk, bear and lynx. Nova Scotia is on the same level as Bordeaux (45. Latitude), which probably explains the warm summers. The int. Airport Halifax is e.g. B. from Frankfurt with Condor in 6-7 hours directly and from there it goes on with intercity buses or rental cars 3 hours relaxed to the houses.
- "Bob, I wanted to thank you for your hospitality. My family and I stayed at this house for 10 days. The place was very clean and communication with the manager was very easy. I have no complaints and would stay here again." - "The cottage has wonderful water views, and is cozy and comfortable! We curled up in the loft chairs and enjoyed the view." - "Hurricane Fiona hit Cape Breton during our stay. Bob and his staff made sure that we were safe and had everything we needed, checking in with us several times. House was very nice, view was great, and we’d like to come again without a storm. We still had a great time. Highly recommend."

Had a nice holiday there! Thanx Todd!" - "A cozy and comfortable place in Creignish; conveniently located right along the Cabot Trail. This house was our home base while we day-tripped to the many beautiful beaches, trails, restaurants, shops and Ceilidhs of Cape Breton. It had everything we needed for our one week stay. - "Cottage is in bachelor format with basically one large room. Perfect for my wife and I, maybe not two couples. Place was spotless and possibly the best equipped rental I have ever been in. Paper towel, tissue, several rolls of TP, toothbrushes, floss sticks, plenty of dishes for several meals before running the dishwasher , lots of towels including additional for the hot tub. I will stay here again and recommend to friends." - "This was a beautiful place to stay for our visit to Cape Breton Island. The view from the house was amazing! We were able to catch both sunrise and sunset while overlooking Bras D'Orr. The hot tub and patio firepit made for a relaxing time. And the privacy was appreciated. One caution is that these are relatively new rentals and while each house is PERFECTLY outfitted, you do drive up a gravel road and driveway with the surrounding land being clear cut for additional cabins. However, once inside and looking out, it is not noticed at all. It is also a bit of a drive if you want to tour the island as we did. This place is best for time hanging out and relaxing. We loved it!"

The Yellownose House is located directly on a 350m long private beach with a view of the river delta. From the beach, it's easy to pull the kayak into the sea or fish for dinner with a large family Canadian. Because of the special location at the mouth of the river in the Atlantic, no fishing license is required. The large sandy beach and the sheltered shallow bay at the house is particularly suitable for children. If this house is occupied, there is the identical "Bluenose House" next door, also for holidays together. Please ask. We are also happy to undertake fishing trips in our motor boat or sailing boat trips with instructions (if desired).
The special thing about this house is the location without a view of electricity pylons, wind turbines etc. You are completely private to yourself and yet there is a hospital a few minutes away (which is usually associated with long journeys to this region) and a 15-minute drive is Port Hawkesbury, the "capital" of Cape Breton. On You Tube you will find videos and aerial photos of the "Yellownose House"
- "Calm and peace! Thank you!" - "I stayed at the Yellownose with my husband and two teenagers and it was everything we were hoping for! Very much off the beaten track but a good base for exploring Cape Breton Island. We loved being at the end of a private lane on our own little point of land, swimming off our own pebble beach, and admiring the gorgeous view from the beautiful deck. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. Our only small constructive suggestion would be improved airflow in the loft, which was very hot; but the main floor gets a lovely breeze. We would definitely stay here again."

Cape Breton Island was voted over all other vacation spots in Canada as the second most beautiful travel destination in the world by over 200 internationally renowned travel agents. In 2011, the well-known travel magazine Travel and Leisure chose Cape Breton Island as the Number 1 Island in the Continental U.S. and Canda and the Number 3 world best Island. In 2014 Usatoday.com voted Cape Breton one of 10 romantic islands worldwide you'll fall in love with. In fact, along the stunning costal areas you can admire seals, pilot wales, dolphins, eagles, hummingbirds, loons and puffins. People in Nova Scotia have a very strong relationship to the sea as their main income comes from fishing lobsters. Life on land is very quiet and slow. People here have time, are open and extremely friendly to sailors, as they rarely see some.
The Yellownose House is unique on the island because of its location directly by the beach and its high standard of living. It is a difference in living close to a lake or to reside directly by the ocean with private beach. Compare carefully! We have uploaded pictures and guest pictures on this website for this purpose to see the difference between ocean view and our oceanfront property. It is furnished to suit European tastes and features, for example, 220 Volt transformators, in addition to the local 110 Volts. Except for TV, you'll find everything you need. The high-end kitchen like all closets and floors, typically for Canada, is solid wood and leaves nothing to be desired.
A large porch (2.5m by 30m, safe for toddlers) around the house on three sides allows sunbathing and outdoor living surrounded and protected by maples, birches, and firs. From here, you can enjoy the mild breezes of the Atlantic and the romantic views of river and island life .

Please take off shoes in the corridor. The hardwood floors will be damaged by the little crushed rock stones, that remain in the shoe soles and will result in scratches that are difficult to be removed.
Waste
Weekly on Thursday morning the garbage box of each house is picked up at the beginning
of the private road to the houses. They take only securely fastened sacks. The blue
recycling bags will be checked stricktly and sometimes not picked up if the items are not cleaned. Recycles items or fruits and vegetables in the clear bag are the reason of not collecting the clear bag. Please consider the note of the four waste streams on the fridge door.
Animals
The tenant has to keep the rooms free of animals. Especially squirrels are trouble. At first they seem to be very cute and friendly but they invariably can cause large damages with their teeth, especially at mosquito screens and furniture. If the doors are not closed, they are immediately in the house. Therefore: do not feed them. Only observing.
Keep the basement door closed due to of mice
Food outside the house attracts ants. If you do not want an ant colony in the house, avoid leaving food around.

- "Lovely and very private. Amazing sunsets, and kayaking. Lots of wildlife!" - "Close enough to town for ease but far enough out that the only manmade noise you hear is the distant highway and the occasional boater going by (we had one in 4 days).A nice wrap around deck to hangout on and enjoy the views. The constant breeze was great for staying cool on the warmer days. We rented a Canoe and took a paddle up the river to explore." - "A beautiful large open concept cottage. They had everything you need from fully equipped kitchen to kayaks for use nearby off your private beach."

The Bluenose House is unique on the island because of its location directly by the ocean and its high standard of living. It is a difference in living close to a lake or to reside directly by the ocean with private beach. Compare carefully! We have uploaded pictures and guest pictures on this website for this purpose to see the difference between ocean view and our oceanfront property. House Bluenose is a frame construction built in 2000.
From here, you can enjoy the mild breezes of the Atlantic and the romantic views of island life .
Light in Nova Scotia is much stronger than elsewhere, colors are more brilliant. Lay back and let Nova Scotia enchant you. The coastline is deeply indented by fiords and numerous bays. Cape Breton Island in the north east has a huge lake (Bras d´Or Lake) with crystal clear water and terrific fishing possibilities. People here are still very tight to their traditions: there is always an occasion to listen to Scottish bagpipes and Irish fiddle music and when you are here you can choose among different Scottish events and step classes. In the French Acadian, their inhabitants, although english speaking, enjoy being greeted with a French bon jour.

- "We decided to go to NS within a week of leaving. Due to the COVID rules, we knew we would have to isolate for 14 days and Robert's looked like a great place to spend those 14 days with two young kids. Robert was quick to answer our messages and when we mentioned we would need a way to get groceries delivered to his house, he offered. I asked a few days before arrival for an early check-in and he was happy to arrange it. The place was clean and as described when we arrived. Throughout our stay he remained very responsive. We really enjoyed our time walking through the woods and by the ocean, lounging on the deck, and kayaking!"

- "Mulgrave mansion was a great hidden gem; very spacious and clean; kids loved the pool :) Worked as a great home base for the Cabot trail and surrounding sites. Would recommend and stay again!" - "The home was breathtakingly beautiful. Super private location, so peaceful. It was very clean and comfortable. Coffee on the patio, enjoying the view was our favorite." - "We had a great stay. Was a perfect place for a girls getaway." - "A very nice property. Four couples stayed there a night while on a motorcycle tour of Nova Scotia. One of the bedrooms didn’t have access to a bathroom so it was more of a 3br house rather than 4br. Spacious with many amenities but there were numerous sticky notes around informing us of things that didn’t work or shouldn’t be used. The access road was gravel and not motorcycle friendly."

- "This was our first ‘glamping’ experience and the dome was a good intro. You get the perks of sleeping under the stars without the hassle of setting up a tent. The dome was spacious, clean, and well vented. Perfect for two people. We had a few issues with some of the amenities listed (the grill was unfit for use, no fire pit, and no life jacket for the kayak). The owner (Robert) was very responsive in addressing our issues and we’re confident he’s making improvements to the site with each visit. The compostable toilet is narrow but was in good shape for our stay. Bring your own drinking water and enjoy the views… it’s quiet and peaceful overlooking the ocean!"

Glamping at it"s best: The magical cozy River Inhabitants Basin and the breathtaking panoramic view from this elevated dome yurt facing the deep blue glittering ocean is the #1 getaway for affordable, relaxing, peaceful holidays, kayaking, hiking, biking, swimming, reading, writing, loving. As the river mouth and basin with many uninhabited islands offers a lot of things to do we suggest you to combine water sports adventure with your stay. An ocean kayak will be provided if you stay for a week or longer. We offer sailing tours, kayaking and fishing. Although we understand the desire to see as many places as possible when on vacation, we highly recommend people to stay with us for several days. Let your mind come to rest and get a good sleep on real good spring mattresses. ! We would love to be the place where you come to rest. Deep dive into nature and forget the day to day hustle for a while! Writers, painters, artists (like your host) find the inspiration and recharging for new productivity.
Internal curtains at the huge windows enhance the impression that this has traditional-style solid HydroTex walls yet can be rolled up for views out and to the Milky Way. The front door has a mesh panel behind and low vents aid air flow.
- "The view, yurt, beach were perfect! The amenities list needs to be more accurate! There was no fire pit, wasn't told to bring own drinking water, no safety lights around the cliff right off the steps from the yurt, the outdoor toilet was 9/10full when we got there so i had to go into town to buy a toilet seat and a bucket so we could go to the washroom...I'm 6"1and totally not able to fit inside the tiny tent around the full toilet...which was covered in dead bugs and cedar chips...we have pics if you need to see them...we also had to buy yrad lights to light the edge of the cliff so we would not fall over, all their was a slack line as a barrier. The king size bed was only two singles on wood pallets(Found that out when we got there) and the out cooking utensils were so dirty and rusted I'm glad I brought all my own cooking equipment and utensils and dishes...all were dirty and covered with dead bugs...we had to pay 70$ extra for our dog...but she was the cleanest thing there!!! Over all we had a ok time...we will not recommended it to anyone and we won't be back...the owner needs to be more honest in the description of the site and the amenities list...we had to go into Port Hawksbury many time to buy items that were needed for a good and safe weekend, I would like some kind of refund! Not the whole amount but something! First time booking with vrbo and I have to say not impressed! But the view was nice! Seriously I would like to have at least the pet fee and the cleaning fee returned to my credit card! Oh and I forgot the free WiFi didn't even work on 3 or our devices...we had to walk 1km down the road to get a signal so we could message big the owner to ask what's up with this place! Not impressed! Email me back please!!!"

The Bluenose House and the Yellownose House, which we also rent out, are really right by the sea, not just "near the sea" or with "sea view", as competitors like to misleadingly advertise "by the sea". Please compare carefully! From our houses you or the children really only need to walk a few meters to the beach without having to drive. Enjoy the spectacular view of the Atlantic and the islands from the sheltered 130 sqm terrace. Experience the tides directly on your own jetty at the estuary, lobster, fish, oysters, scallops on the extensive private beach. The uninhabited islands off the coast, which can be reached by kayak, offer protection from the high Atlantic waves. There is plenty of space for the youngest children to play in a small, shallow bay with a sandy beach next door, at the mouth of a salmon river that can be navigated by kayak. This mixture of river, sea, islands, adventure, peace, nature experience and comfort in the house as well as good supply in 15 minutes distance with supermarkets, hospital, you will rarely find combined! The sea offers many advantages and variety: maritime water sports, diving (wooden wrecks from the settler era), beach walks, waves + pleasant wind!
Special features: The advantage of the east coast is the short flight time of approx. 6.5 hours direct from Frankfurt. The island of Cape Breton, connected to the province of Nova Scotia by a bridge, offers a lot of variety. It can be reached on day trips: Lovely orchards, the largest tidal differences in the world, impenetrable mountain ridges (Highlands), national parks and only 10 minutes from the house the famous Bras d`Or Lake, which is twice the size of Lake Constance. Whales, sea eagles, hummingbirds, otters and seals have been observed at the house (request video). Guided tours can be arranged individually. There is a jetty at the house, but it is not always in the water due to seasonal factors (ice floes in the winter and autumn storms).
Romantic winter vacation: In addition to the summer season, Cape Breton is also a well-known tip for cold, dry, often sunny winters, especially from January to March. If you are looking for a romantic winter vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the slopes, enjoy exploring snow-covered forests on the tracks of animals on cross-country skis and snowshoes, want to watch seals on thick drift ice and enjoy the large, hexagonal fireplace in the evening, this is the ideal starting point for a completely different, unforgettable vacation. This is also Canada. It doesn't have to be the mighty Rockie Mountains! Cross-country skiing by the sea, snowstorms, the clinking of breaking ice floes and bizarre ice formations have a special appeal for nature lovers with an inner life.
Indian Summer: Autumn with its famous intense colors is an insider tip among Canada connoisseurs. Nova Scotia, especially the Highlands of Cape Breton, are famous for this! Depending on the flight schedule, you can still reach the 'Indian summer' by direct flight into October. The sun is already lower, but the water is still warm and the landscape is bathed in an unforgettable light.
If these houses are booked, we have another private house available. Have a look at the page www.capebreton (dot)vacations
