- "Plus sides: next to the Donkey Sanctuary and the ability to cook for yourself. Now for the downsides. Where to begin? *Couldn't get into contact with the owner for check-in, arrival times, code to the key box or anything. Only after contacting Travelnest (the third company in charge of advertising the property) by phone on the day of check-in, I got a very short email from the owner about the check-in time (an hour later than advertised) and code for the key box. No apologies, not even his/her name. *After arriving at the park we had to search for #27. No map. No instructions in the instructions email. Finally after driving around for 15 minutes we found the “chalet”. Who in their right mind dares to call it that. It’s the middle apartment of three. Next to one looked like it could be used as a drug house. *Upon entering the apartment there were cobwebs everywhere and there was a very bad marijuana smell. The windows were left open. Guessing to try and air it out. *No sea in sight while it is listed as an ocean view! *Cutlery wasn't enough for four persons. *During the night, the flood light of the neighbors will shine in the bedroom, keeping you awake. *The smoke detectors were removed. The old location still visible on the ceiling *The shower had a hole in the floor resulting in water not draining properly and seeping underneath the floor (visible by just walking on the floor and water appearing through the seems). So all in all, would NOT recommend!"

- "Truly Awful, very cheap beds. You will feel the bed springs all night... as the beds wobble on top of their cheap springs.. the double bed is completely unusable - it's sloped apart in the middle so that a couple will roll away form each other. We swapped over to the smaller beds in the middle of the night... The two small beds are very cheap mattresses also; the owners are trying to save money by supplying cheap beds - but people have to, 'try to' sleep on them. Bad judgement. The result is an honest review and most likely, lost business. Also, toilet was full of yellow pee. Other than that it's a nice place; clean, nice view, quite, ... is also missing a walkway so you have to walk over grass to get to it. ... not a big deal..."

- "A lovely stay in your cottage. Although very small, a really lovely place to stay. Cottage is fully equipped and very comfy and warm. Location wise, you’d be hard pressed to find better. The beach is a stones throw. The pubs - the Anchor (a green king pub) and the Barrel of Beer (lovely wet pub) and I highly recommend the Smugglers kitchen for dinner. The Bay Inn for lunches. Thank you for letting us stay in your gorgeous cottage. " - "Cottage had everything we could ask for. Plenty to do in Beer. Parked the car and it never moved all week. So many lovely walks and the locals were so friendly. Relaxed and clean place to stay. Cannot wait to go back!! Oh and our two little dogs loved it too. Met some lovely like minded people. Unique boutique studio style accommodation, wifi, smart tv, shower suite and full kitchenette.
Just 5 mins walk to the beach and centre of village.
In a beautiful quiet residential location in Beer.
The ideal spot to explore the gems of East Devon and West Dorset.
Free Car parking direct by the Pod.
Perfect for couples wanting to escape.
The Pod is situated at the bottom of my garden, overlooked by my garden/house, making it easy for me to provide you anything you may require. Located in a residential area with free parking (and my car is often parked down the side of the Pod out of view). The Pod offers views over some fields or often my neighbour tinkering on his fishing boats. (Please note it is not based on the beach or by the beach with a sea view.)
You can walk to the beach down any of the paths on the road leading to the Pod in 5 minutes via the village centre, where you also find a selection of pubs and restaurants to choose from. A few shops including deli and village shop. Also some beautiful art galleries, bring your gold card for one!
Beer is an historic fishing village, and continues to thrive on fishing to this day. Fresh fish shop on the beach. Can't get fresher!
Take a boat out and catch your own. In fact the owner of the rental fishing boats lives next door to the Pod. So very easy to arrange.
The Jurassic coast is a beautiful place and The Escape Pod is central for access to it all. Walk the coast line direct from the pod. All year round.
Information pack with the pod to ensure you can know what you have locally and I am happy to answer any questions or offer suggestions.
Peace of mind for booking: If your booking is required to be cancelled due to covid-19 government travel restrictions, a full refund will be given.
- "The property is exactly as described and in a superb position to explore Beer and the surrounding area. Louise was a superb host and on hand if needed. She also suggested some places to eat locally and would recommend the Sea Shanty at Branscombe Beach and Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock. I am sure we will be back sometime in the future." - "Absolutely idyllic Pod in the centre of Beer. The Pod is finished to a high modern standard and is so cosy and clean. We sadly didnt spend a great deal of time in it as we had plans made each day so just used it for showering and sleeping. However it is in a very peaceful location so a morning coffee on the decking was just lovely! The bed is very comfy and the shower is good and the kitchen area has all the equipment you need as well as a coffee machine which was a great bonus for a coffee addict! We met the host briefly on arrival who was pleasant and very welcoming letting us know we could contact her if need be. Would 100% stay again in a heartbeat. The dogs also thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Beer itself is a beautiful quaint seaside town with a deep pebble beach which is dog friendly. Great community spirit and lovely place overall with some beautiful coastal walks. We walked from Beer to Sidmouth (9miles) on the Saturday and hitched a bus back to beer and were well and truly ready for a rest and food in one of the 3 pubs. We drank in the Anchor but found service to be quite slow so wandered upto The Dolphin which was equally slow but was cheaper for drinks and food and had a nice courtyard to sit in the sun and relax. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable weekend was had. 10/10."

- "Really well equipped dog friendly house. My son and I were performing at the festival and it was a short drive into Sidmouth and a perfect oasis to recuperate after a day dancing. Some fabulous local walks and great pubs serving great food and ale. We will be hoping to return sometime in the future." - "Great base to explore the many seaside resorts along the Jurassic coast. Dog friendly too" - "The bungalow has everything you could possibly want. Very thoughtful touches awaited us on our arrival - flowers, wine, chocolates. Jacqui was great at answering any questions I had and went out of her way to ensure my Mum and I had a lovely stay. It's the perfect place to stay to explore Devon and Dorset. We loved it. - "Everything we needed for our stay was provided. Very quiet area and beautiful views from the cottage. The drive down the 1 mile track to the property was a bit daunting at first as I don't like heights. Beware the potholes. Both coast and countryside in the local area is stunning. Beer being our favourite." - "Tranquil and fairly remote, but with great access to surrounding Seaton, Sidmouth, Beer and Lyme Regis. Would recommend this property."

A delightful wisteria clad period stone cottage with a parking space, located in the heart of Branscombe village.
The area is ideal for beachcombers and walkers with the nearby beach backed by magnificent cliffs with coastal paths to Beer and Sidmouth. Branscombe is famous for being situated on the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Coastline. The village is set in a beautiful valley meandering down to the sea, surrounded by National Trust land.
The cottage boasts a wealth of character and is beautifully furnished with a nautical theme and designer soft furnishings. The property benefits from larger than expected front and back gardens with patio areas for dining alfresco.
The property is accessed from the road by five stone steps, with a stream flowing beneath, and entering through an archway into the front garden, which incorporates a rockery.
The delightful open plan lounge / dining room has a feature fireplace with an electric fire and is luxuriously furnished with oak furniture, a large dining table with seating for 6, TV, DVD and music system. There is Wi-fi at the cottage, but the mobile phone signal in the village is very poor. There is a land line for emergencies but otherwise it is incoming calls only.
The charming kitchen incorporates a dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge freezer, microwave, oven, hob and is fully equipped. The kitchen also allows for access to the back garden.

LOCAL AREA
Branscombe is a haven for walkers and for birdwatchers and the area is known as the Jurassic Coast and is ideal for exploring on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.
There is plenty to do in the area such as, take a trip on the tram in Seaton, or visit the nearby donkey sanctuary. Honiton market town is the home of Honiton lace and hosts a street market on a Saturday Sidmouth boasts a beach and each year holds a folk festival. Beer has a lovely pebble beach, plenty of shops and restaurants, and a quarry and caves which is open to visitors. The vast man-made complex of underground caves was created by hundreds of years of quarrying the famous Beer stone. The underground quarry which was first worked by the Romans, which in those days was quarried by hand. A small block weighing about 4 tons was carted on horse-drawn wagons and by barges from Beer Beach to its destination, sometimes involving journeys of several hundreds of miles. The quarry has supplied stone for 24 cathedrals including St Paul’s, The Tower of London, Windsor Castle, Hampton Court and Exeter Cathedral.
A few local towns and villages to visit are Sidmouth, Dawlish Warren, Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Honiton and Budleigh Salterton.
Lyme Regis boasts fabulous scenery and is an ancient town featured in the ‘Domesday Book’ and is home to a number of historical landmarks and educational attractions. Its historic harbour wall is known as the Cobb and is one of several iconic features, set against cliffs, yielding fossilised evidence of life on earth millions of years ago and is a great place to discover a lot you didn’t know about the UK's heritage.
- "Cottage was charming and as described and perfect for what we needed. Owner had left a Christmas tree out so that was appreciated. Parking space a little tight (we had a Small van) - but no problems parking elsewhere. A friendly criticism - 9am (Covid restrictions or not) is not a reasonable time to expect people to check out. 10 is minimum/standard." - "Sunbeam cottage is in a wonderful location for the beautiful Branscombe beach and village. Due to covid alot of the ornaments, cushions , books & games had been removed. We were told this ahead of our stay. This did make the lounge look bear and tired, but comfortable. The double bedrooms have very comfortable mattresses but my daughter said the single she had was a bit hard. The bedding is lovely. The kitchen is small but perfectly formed, containing all you need . The outdoor space is not like the posted photos as the conifer high hedge to the front has been removed and replanted with new small saplings which leaves it open and not at all private. The back garden is overgrown but has a wonderful high large patio where you can catch the morning sun. This isn't listed in the description so we found it a wonderful added bonus. The windows did need a clean and the lounge could do with a bit of TLC to remove small wisteria shoots and a general freshen up but this cottage is a good place for a holiday stay. "

- "We were so looking forward to getting away, and we were not disappointed. Stockham Lodge is excellent, the bedrooms are generous with good ensuite facilities. Nigel and Janet the owners are delightful and we were welcomed with home made scones, cream and a bottle of wine! We had a German Shepherd with us and she enjoyed long walks into the woods and along the many paths. We would certainly return. The only downside was that the accessible room on the ground floor although there is a door from the path outside, the internal access was via a two sets of steps. It was ok for our friend as she can stand and pull herself up but a fully disabled guest would have a problem - but it was a minor issue for us and everything else made up for it! Hamilton House is situated in the heart of this coastal village and a half mile's level walk to the wide pebble beach and sea. The house is situated down a private no through road at the end of which starts the footpath to the beach. The footpath itself is a delightful walk through the fields and alongside a stream before reaching the extensive pebble beach with rock pools, car park, delightful tearoom and a shop.
Hamilton House is an ideal holiday venue for couples as well as families with small children. It is a fully furnished and equipped house which is an ideal “home away from home”. It has a sitting area both on the ground floor as well as a spacious living room upstairs on the first floor enabling guests to spread out and enjoy the house at their leisure. It has been our second home for many years and we hope you will enjoy it’s charm and character as much as we have over the years!
Our housekeeper lives close by and is always available to answer any questions or offer any assistance.
The village is lovely and welcoming and the walk to the beach through the fields is the perfect way to start the day!
Activities nearby:
In terms of activities, there is so much to do in Devon (especially with young kids)! We would definitely suggest Escot ( Great day out and lots to do. Feeding of otters, bird of pray, maze, etc. Super fun for all and lovely little cafe. Only 30 minutes from Hamilton House.
For a bit of adrenaline, there a is great Lasertag venue just outside Exeter which is located within a now abandoned genuine nuclear war bunker (
A bit further afield, there is Powderham Castle ( which is a bit more sedate and has something for everyone.
Becky Falls In Dartmoor ( Lovely nature walks and small animal zoo and animal shows.
Otherwise there is also the Donkey Sanctuary (at the top of Branscombe village) lots of lovely walks, great cafe and free admission.
Many more recommendations but you only have a few days so will not be able experience everything.
Eating out:
In terms of food, lovely pub right in the centre of the village (Masons Arms) - this is literally 50 meters from the house.
The Sea Shanty at the beach also serves lovely breakfast from 9.00am every morning and is open all day with a wide selection of food (their crab sandwiches are fantastic)!
The other pub in the village (the Fountain Head) is also within walking distance (but uphill and a longer walk). The National Trust Bakery does lovely afternoon tea and is in an orchard so well worth popping in for some cakes and coffee/tea. Again, a 5-10minute walk away from the house.
The neighbouring village of Beer is also worth visiting. Lovely atmosphere and nice pub with garden overlooking the sea (The Anchor Inn).
Another more upscale option is The Pig at Combe ( Lovely food in a beautiful Elizabeth setting.
In terms of our beach, it’s absolutely lovely. We have a couple of deck chairs and some beach mats and beach umbrella. We also have some toys for kids. In general, BBQs are not allowed on the grass (as it belongs to the Sea Shanty) but we have seen many people have small BBQs in the pebble beach itself.
- "Really comfortable house with everything we needed for our stay. Beds and bed linen really good quality. Communication with the owner really good leading up to our holiday. Parking in the designated space was a bit tricky but we got used to it! Would definitely recommend the house for group stays." - "We really enjoyed our stay in Branscombe. The cottage is very spacious and ideally located with a short walk to the beach. Branscombe is also in a very good location to visit neighbouring towns - Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Exmouth and much more. We didn’t contact the provider once we arrived as we didn’t need too. Thanks for having us. "

- "This is a gorgeous cottage siting at the foot of an old water tower, in which the property owner lives with his dog. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay. The accommodation is exactly as described, but what’s sometimes difficult to tell is that everything has been kept up to date, with an excellent kitchen and things that you might need are clean and in good order. We did not see much of our owner/neighbour, except on one day when I had a nice chat (my dog was trying to say hello to his dog). Pillows and the bed were very comfortable, and the appropriate furniture in great shape - the sitting room could comfortably have eight adults, and there are lots of options for dining both inside and at the patio table. Immediately surrounding, there are stunning views over the valley with Seaton sitting at the river’s mouth. There are fabulous walks to Seaton (2km), and on to Beer (2km further) and Branscombe (3km further still). All three of these have great places to find sustenance (and beer :-). Further afield, we explored the very attractive town of Lyme Regis, and also spent a rainy day in Exeter. This was a great location for what we wanted to do - enjoy the Devon coastline with long walks, and leisurely meals of a good quality. The people were also very welcoming, despite the fact that they deal with so much passing trade."
