I came down to Devon to visit my Dad who lives quite near so this place was ideal for us. On arrival this is a very quaint looking establishment and quite a few places at the rear for Free parking too. We booked in and shown to our room. We were both pleasantly surprised. The double room was really beautiful, with en suite, shower and plenty of towels and complimentary s/poo, s/gel soap and body cream which i thought was so nice. We had a good size tv on the wall and plenty of choice of channels plus (Netflix, prime ect). We had a wardrobe in the room, a dressing table and chair plus a comfy big chair too. Tea, coffee making facilities and a super comfy clean bed to which we both slept very well. In the morning you are provided with a choice of cooked breakfast to which i must say was excellent produce and home cooked. We also had a few meals here too and have to say the Sunday Lunch was delicious and both of us had Roast Beef with all the trimmings, we even managed a pudding each. Melt in the middle Chocolate cake with ice cream, Barry had Mixed Fruit Crumble with Custard. Must say after drinks and coffee we were totally full. I have to mention the owners Tom and Debbie as they made us feel very welcome. It was like staying with family, staff are so polite and welcoming too. The Cromwell Arms has 14 rooms. A beautifully maintained former quarryman's cottage dating from the 1820s in Haytor Vale, a unique position just below the famous Haytor Rocks. The cottage is next door to and owned by The Rock Inn which has a long standing reputation for quality - a restaurant and Inn is on your doorstep. The cottage has a large beautiful fireplace, is centrally heated, has a fully equipped kitchen and a large garden. 3 gorgeous glamping cabins and a bus .Cabins sleep 4 people and are designed for 2 adults and 2 children ( SINGLE BEDS ARE 5 FOOT LONG AND 2 FOOT 6 INCHES WIDE ) . Hen House is slightly more compact which is reflected in the pricing. Cabins have a kitchenette (no oven) with a gas hob , sink, fridge. Buttercup and Bluebell have an en suite WC. A small toilet block with one shower and one toilet for the sole use of the Hen House (The Hen House does not have an en suite WC). Cabins are nestled underneath ancient oak trees in a 5 acre field . The field is also home to 12 alpacas , 30 hens , 20 ducks and a couple of pigs. Each hut is situated so it is not overlooked . You have lots of privacy . The two larger cabins have an ensuite toilet and hot outside shower and the smaller cabin is situated within 15 meters of its private toilet and hot shower block. The huts are equipped with all you should need for your stay. Cutlery, plates, pots and pans, linen, towels etc are all included. Each hut has a private deck area out front with a picnic bench and sun loungers/day beds on and there are fire pits and logs to hire/buy on site.
Dartmoor Reach is a working farm so don’t be surprised to see Alpacas outside the front door, hens pecking around the field and pigs rootling around in the mud .
