Jacketts is an old cob farmhouse in a fantastic location on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Otterton that lies between Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton. Now divided into two cottages Jacketts 2 makes a deceptively spacious and well appointed home away from home. It has a delightful Conservatory, ideal for those lazy breakfasts while the combined sitting/dinning has an Inglenook with modern gas log burner to warm any chilly nights. There is a brand new kitchen with an induction cooktop & electric oven. The freezer is a good size so you can stock up with locally delivered “Cook” meals if you want a rest from cooking. Clearing up is made easy with the dishwasher. Upstairs the double bedroom has a lovely antique solid oak bed originally from Fineshade Abby and a modern semi ensuite shower room. The twin bedroom has its own charm with more antique furniture. For a candle lit bath or the practicality of bathing the children the bonus of a downstairs bathroom gives that added flexibility.
The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the East Devon coast with fantastic local walks along the cliffs and nearby river while for the children there is everything from sandy beaches to adventure parks. Cyclists & birdwatchers will love the countryside surrounding this delightful Cottage. This is picture postcard country and the ideal holiday home!
Eating out: The nearest place to eat out is just a few hundred yards away at Otterton Mill. This a working mill where you can see the grain being milled before buying the freshly baked bread or other local delights. The mill has an excellent licenced restaurant for lunch or afternoon tea, as well as a gallery and gift shop where the hidden talent of some of our local artists can be seen. The local pub is also very good but in the next village of East Budleigh there are two excellent pubs for food. In nearby Sidmouth there are a variety of modern wine bars, great restaurants and several old traditional pubs to choose from. Tearooms for the essential 'Devon cream tea' are too numerous to mention and in Budleigh Salterton you can find some of the best Ice cream in Devon.
Jacketts' website: For more information on the cottage and local area with lots of links to local attractions, checkout the Owners website, search Jacketts Cottages, Otterton.
- "Comfortable and quiet place to stay. A step back in time in a nice way. Didn’t have time to read all the books." - "The photos do not do justice to Jacketts. It is a very spacious property and excellently equipped for a self catering visit. Lots of room for four adults, with two bathrooms, but also safe and secure for a solo traveller. The courtyard garden is a sun trap in the afternoon and fully enclosed. There are plenty of internal doors to prevent muddy paws getting anywhere near the lovely cream carpets. Recommend without hesitation."

- "Cottage is in the owner’s house grounds but very private & quiet. Claire was very welcoming & helpful about the local area. Kitchen was extremely well equipped, beds very comfortable & overall a lovely stay. The village is a short walk & I can recommend the community shop, the mill and the pub. All in all can be thoroughly recommended." - "The bungalow was ideal for us - very clean, well-appointed, comfortable and convenient. Claire was very helpful when we arrived - she and her husband live in Hawkern House alongside. She was always available but allowed us our privacy. Views from the house are lovely and the patio and lawn area were very pleasant. There are good walks to the SW Coast Path from the house and it was very convenient for our small dog. We stayed 7 nights and visited lots of nice places nearby and found a good variety of places to eat."

a stunning, spacious and airy maisonette situated two minutes (50m) level walk from the beach in beautiful Budleigh Salterton with three bedrooms sleeping up to six people (five adults or up to six people including two children)
The flat has two full bathrooms: these and the kitchen have underfloor heating, and the entire flat has central heating from a brand new boiler with very effective radiators. Spacious fully equipped kitchen and beautiful open living area for relaxing, & six at the table.
The space
This large three bedroomed apartment has just undergone an extensive refurb, retaining a gorgeous vintage character with touches of luxury throughout. Floors are stripped and polished, bathrooms and kitchen have Travertine and Italian porcelain tiled floors with underfloor heating making the flat cosy at any time. Upstairs is a full double ended bath with separate shower, whilst downstairs is a larger shower...big enough to wash a dog.. and loo, which doubles as utility room with washer / dryer.
The bedrooms are generous sized, two doubles (one of which can be a twin if required) and one single (which can become a double at a push) and mattresses and furnishings are excellent quality with bedding and towels provided for your use.
The kitchen is equipped not only with a gas hob and electric oven as well as microwave and full sized fridge, but also dishwasher and plenty of crockery, pans, utensils - all you need to make this your home from home.
In spite of being in the centre of town it is quiet due to double glazing throughout, (except the downstairs bathroom/utility which has the original wooden sash windows).
The apartment is furnished with a stylish blend of classic vintage gems and modern touches like the venetian blinds, comfy armchairs and an oversized downstairs shower. The high brekfast bar between the kitchen and living room makes the place feel sociable and modern, while other 'shabby chic' details keep it homey and interesting.
The majority of the refurb where possible has used reclaimed, recycled, and original materials so that flat has a unique and eclectic feel: Imagine 'The Wombles' meet 'Bagpuss'! ('....making good use of the things that we find....'....dum de dum......'we will mend it we will fix it, we will make it like new, new, new..') but feels luxurious and spacious with high ceilings and wonderful light.
Early in the morning, pop over the road to the beach to buy amazingly fresh fish from the fisherman at his boat, or if you don't fancy cooking - any night (except Mondays!) try the variety of great local restaurants and takeaways within the town.
Dogs are welcome subject to some restrictions - please check.
Same applies to children- We didn't design this place with little ones in mind so PLEASE do get in touch before confirming your reservation, it may not be suitable for all.
Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Guest access
There's an inexpensive car park a few dozen (level) yards away, or you could park on one of the many unrestricted roads nearby. Budleigh town centre is mostly level and with the beach literally over the road you won't need the car unless you go off exploring.
Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE- Consideration needed, in the evenings especially, as this is an old building and not soundproof. The downstairs neighbours will be disturbed by loud conversations and heavy footsteps upstairs so please be aware of this when booking.
Also - Rubbish and recycling. I'm afraid we have to take a tough stance on this- recycling is collected every week, including food. Landfill however is only every three weeks (!?) which means we MUST insist on you recycling everything possible. Randomly chucking everything in several bin liners over a week will earn you a 'fail'!
- "My husband and I were returning to Budleigh for a wedding anniversary weekend. This was the perfect little bolt hole for our young family with the dog. It was clean, well stocked and cosy. It was lovely to come back to after a day at the beach and the Ed’s were very comfortable too. Fabulous location and there’s a very cute cafe opening up beneath the apartment also. We would love to return here some day." - "A wonderful maisonette in a lovely area. Perfect for visiting other places along the Jurassic Coast too. Highly recommend. "

- "Our caravan was good just a few little things - our bathroom had no plug !!! There was also a weird smell, could have been a mouldy smell or something, we had to keep the window open most of the time. The main settee, middle section, when you sat down the MDF board that hides the fold up bed keeps sliding off the batten making it very uncomfortable to sit on!" - "Lovely view. Neighbours children were a little annoying but that can’t be helped. "

One of Budleigh Salterton’s prettiest and most recognisable seafront cottages with its roots in well-heeled Edwardian society. This home has recently undergone a superb refurbishment, and though unbelievably stylish, it’s not in the least bit stuffy. Sash windows, wooden flooring and original fireplaces ply its rooms with character, while sumptuous furnishings and modern features invite you to sink into Devon’s laid-back pace of life in complete comfort.
With plenty of room for six, The Pink House proffers a spacious kitchen / diner as well as two family-sized bathrooms, both with walk-in showers for either a quick de-salting, or a relaxing drench. Upstairs, the master bedroom has its own indulgent freestanding roll top bath for extended soaks overlooking the sea. Budleigh’s beautiful shingle beach lies just meters from the home’s front door so wild swimming and SUP sessions can at first light or last thing, and with the coast path and promenade also within throwing distance, leisurely strolls, fish and chip suppers, and dramatic coastal views are the order of each and every day.
Of course, being this close to the sea demands at least a glimpse of water from your holiday abode but like everything else the Pink House has to offer, you’ll get more than a mere hint of it with both double bedrooms flaunting a beautiful outlook over the beach and bay. Off the entrance hall, two reception rooms offer the choice of where to spend your down time; either together in the living room with its squidgy sofas, log burner and TV; or a little more secluded in the separate snug.
*Please note that while adults may use the bunk beds, they are ideally suited to children
** This property offers a digital parking permit for one car for use in the East Devon Council car parks in Budleigh Salterton
- "The Pink House was lovely and in an excellent location with views of the sea and a short walk into town centre. It was clean, warm with comfortable beds and nice linen. Downstairs shower room very convenient. All rooms Light, airy and roomy. It would have been better still if there had been a large armchair in one of the lounges as my husband is six foot four and elderly and he had trouble getting out of the low settees which were very nice and comfortable for shorter people. We would have liked to use the small parking place as parking in the town in limited to maximum of four hours in the car parks. However, if fit, there is a free car park at the other end of the town."

This home has been fully refurbished with modern fixtures and fittings in 2024. It has been tastefully decorated in a blue/grey palette throughout. The accommodation is all on one level, with a cosy lounge, a newly refurbished kitchen, 1 double bedroom with separate en-suite, a twin bedroom and a family bathroom. - "Beautiful property and so well equipped, all the furnishings are beautiful, you literally need nothing as everything is thought of from shampoo and shower gel right through to washing up liquid! We had a great stay, the only downside was the neighbours children running around at the front shouting at 8 in the morning which if you want a lay in slightly spoilt it but other than that no issues at all. Had to buy dishwasher salt as couldn’t use the dishwasher as didn’t clean properly, very minor issue which didn’t effect our stay! Host had great communication from the start and we even got in the property early as it was ready for us. Great place, very clean and would definitely stay again. "

We settled on Watch Hill House as it looked just right as well as being a beautiful property and close enough to us to allow good preparation for the stay. From the word go everything went very well. The initial communication, booking and payment went very smoothly. All questions were answered promptly and any assistance requested was quickly met by Emilie in a most helpful manner. The house was all it looked to be, spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The location is great too, just a short walk from the town centre and beach.
