- "We had an overnight stay at hotel du canal after a week on a boat. It was a haven of quiet, calm and rest. It is near to the canal and the town. Maxim the host was lovely. He ensured we had all we needed for our stay. The room was spacious clean and tidy with a comfortable bed. The hotel is situated on the Canal, just as the houses end, so if you walk under the bridge, you are in quiet 'Canal-land'. If you walk to towards the town, you are on the 'high street' in a couple of minutes. The hotel has copies of the town map which has a yellow 'tourist route' on it. Very easy to follow & takes you round all the things you should not miss. We split it over 2 days because we wanted to spend time inside the buildings one day and have a picnic round the Grand Basin the next. Just check opening hours because it is France! The hotel is also a short walk from some very good restaurants. We liked Chez David's 25 Euro set Cassoulet meal: very filling but they will pack up anything you can't eat. The hotel itself is a little dated but we are not fans of large chain hotels so we liked that. It has a good atmosphere & the cleanliness and service were excellent. At this time of year we needed the room heater which was fine. A ceiling fan for summer initially needs the light on but then pull strings switch it on & off. Reviews here have complained about receptionists: we met 4 & they were all very helpful & charming. The parking seemed secure. No actual closed gate but well off the road. All in all a very pleasant few days. "
