Campbell House was built in the 1800s by Mr. Andrew Campbell, a Scottish settler and pioneer whose successful timber and ironmongery business was famous throughout the entire region. Draped in sadness and romance, the history of this beautiful home is almost reminiscent of Greek tragedy. Like the Taj Mahal before it, Campbell House was built as a testament to love. Mr. Campbell was hopelessly in love with the daughter of famed poet, Robert Burns and built this beautiful mansion for her. Sadly their happy ending was not meant to be as Ms. Burns died only two years after arriving in Castlemaine and Mr. Campbell was left to spend the rest of his days in this grand home alone.

Ours is a renovated, period home, thoughtfully and colourfully styled to look beautiful and still be extremely comfortable, with all you need for a short or long stay. A green, serene space from which to enjoy the vibrant and creative town of Castlemaine - and beyond!

Centrally located, you can walk to The Mill or Botanical Gardens in 5 minutes or to the town centre - with cafes, pubs, restaurants and entertainment - in 15 minutes. The bedrooms, a huge bathroom with soaking tub, shower and double sinks, large lounge, kitchen and dining, with an office area, separate laundry and outdoor deck. Central heating and air conditioning make this ideal for all seasons.

Ideal for three couples, a girl’s weekend or a family - we've hosted many of both kinds of guests and all have loved it. The home has off street, under cover parking and a fenced yard, with a lovely garden that we've been adding too to make it even more lovely.

It is on a main (60km/hr) road so there is some road noise during the day, but it's quiet overnight.

The outdoor deck and BBQ area is under cover and at the rear of the property, so is a great spot for relaxing with a coffee or wine, or enjoying a meal from inside or the (provided) BBQ.

We loved our stay at this unique house, which is cosy, well equiped and thoughtfully decorated (beautiful linen and the huge bath were highlights). Heating was very efficient. Locations was perfect for us - just a short walk to the Mill and the centre of town. Kimberly was excellent to deal with and gave us great local tips and some lovely treats on arrival. It was a bit chilly to make use of the outdoor spaces, but they would be fantastic in warmer weather. I’d love to visit again!

Guests have full access to the tiny home, including a private pool and sauna located beneath the pool area. Both are approximately 80–100 metres from the accommodation. Please note that the main residence and studio are restricted areas.

Outdoor Bath Tub: Relax and unwind in the outdoor bathtub located right on the deck of the tiny house. It’s available exclusively for Tiny House guests and can be used anytime, 24/7.

Sauna: Our sauna requires about 45 minutes to 1 hour to pre-heat. Please let us know in advance when you’d like to use it, and we’ll make sure it’s ready and waiting for you.

An outdoor shower is available for rinsing before and after use, and toilet facilities are conveniently located nearby the sauna and shower.

- HeartStone Hill is a 90-minute drive (135 km) from Melbourne via the Calder Highway.
- Accessible by both 2WD and 4WD vehicles.

By Public Transport:

- Castlemaine Train Station is 90 minutes from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne.
- HeartStone Hill is a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk from the station. A local taxi service is also available in town.

By Flight:

- The nearest major airport is Melbourne Tullamarine, about 90 minutes by car or accessible via train connections to Castlemaine.

- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge

- Infra-red (3-person) sauna is available. Guests must use a towel to sit on in the sauna. Please note it takes about 45 mins to warm up prior to use.
- You're welcome to use the BBQ grill—please clean it and the utensils after use, scrape and wipe the grill once cooled, and dispose of rubbish in the bins provided. Thanks for keeping the area tidy for everyone!

Fire Danger Period Notification:

The Mount Alexander Council has announced the fire danger period for this year. During this time, the firepit at the Tiny House cannot be used or ignited.
