* Greenhead flies are a pest around the waterfront areas of Fortescue from mid-June thru late July. We recommend bringing bug spray and wearing as much white as possible, as greenheads only can see darker colors. They are also attracted to the heat of your vehicle so driving around can be quite unpleasant during these few weeks of the summer. But with the proper awareness and precautions, we have had countless guests enjoy all that Fortescue has to offer, even the beach, during these weeks. Some small children could have a hard time being outside in daylight hours during the greenhead season.

You want to bring all your necessities when coming in because the closest grocery store is about 30 mins away. We offer kayaks to be used and a vast variety of fishing equipment. A fishermans' dream!!! Don't forget your camera because the sunsets are so amazing you'll want to capture the beauty. The wildlife is outstanding, with the migratory birds that come in, that includes two beautiful bald eagles that have claimed this as there home. Walking the beach at low tide or simply sitting on the front porch will surely make this a special getaway for anyone needing to destress and relax.

- "Nice quiet out of the way place right on the water. The house had everything we needed for the week. I would have liked a medium size sauce pan for pasta but that's just me. Many sized pots available for cooking and frying. Sea glass aplenty just wait for low tide and explore. During our stay we saw Eagles, otters, crabs, American Oyster Catcher, turtles in the water and babies on the beach. We enjoyed fires by the water and watched the stars. Waterfront location directly on the Delaware Bay.

After parking in your private space in front of the house, you will enter the enclosed porch area. The porch is equipped with a Weber grill and a table for dining which seats four guests. When you enter the house you will be greeted by an open space that is filled with lots of natural light. Enjoy a meal at the dining room table or sit in the stools at the bar off the kitchen. Open the sliding doors and step onto the deck for an unforgettable view of the Delaware Bay. The first floor also has a full bathroom with a shower.

The second floor is equipped with three bedrooms and has four beds. The first room has a daybed and beautiful views of the bay. The
master bedroom has the best view in the house. Enjoy waking up in a lush king size bed and looking out over the bay. The third bedroom has two twin beds and a direct connection to the second floor bathroom. This bathroom has a smaller bathtub that is perfect for young children. A washer and dryer can also be found on the second floor between the bathroom and master bedroom.

Parking can be on the front yard or on the side of the house in the public parking area. Please pull your car in facing the house if you choose to park on the side.
Other things to note
This home uses Well water and a holding tank for water/sewage. Please limit the amount of water used inside the home if possible. There is a recently renovated outdoor shower that is enclosed with hot/cold water with blue-tooth speaker/light to listen to music while showering. The outdoor shower has unlimited water usage so please use whenever possible to limit indoor shower usage.

Welcome to our quaint little home. Our home is situated on the Delaware Bay with water views from the TWO front porches. This home is for beachgoers, fishermen, and anyone who wants to just relax. We are only a short walk to the beach where you can sit and relax, fish, swim (no lifeguards) or walk along the shoreline searching for seashells. This is the hidden gem local fishermen drift for the local catch. This beach does not require a fishing license, just bring your poles. It also has beautiful landscapes for photographers. This property will allow you to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life or work. The porches are enclosed allowing 4 season use to enjoy the water views (each has it's own AC/Heater unit). This is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee or curl up with a good book. Views from the backyard overlook the marsh land. You can catch various types of birds, including eagles, that nests in the trees. Lastly, the turtles, varying from babies to adults, you can catch walking from beach to marsh. As you drive into Fortescue you will see a sign for turtle activity. Please be cautious when driving the during moderate and high seasons.

This is a family property, kids and dogs are welcome. We do have a large crate at the property to use as needed (for the dogs :) ). There is also a leash line in the backyard. The property has 2 bedrooms and one loft with privacy curtain. You do need to walk through some (all) of the bedrooms to get to the stairs. The bathroom is on the first floor. NEWLY added is a Queen sleeper sofa. There is also convertible ottomans in the living room, either 2 twins or push together for a full sized bed. The living room accommodations are great options for someone who needs to be closer to the bathroom, perhaps has bad knees, or you just need extra sleeping space. The stairs are on the steeper side, we don’t want anyone to fall. Each room, except the loft (AC only), has a mini-split unit that allows you to control your own temperature.

In the town of Fortescue, there is a self-boat dock at the western part of the beach. If you have a boat, bring it along there is more then enough room to pull onto the property. There is also, a fee for service boat dock, Higbee’s (can’t miss it on your way into town). Don’t have a boat, rent a charter boat for a great fishing trip, check out: fortescuemarina.com/charters.html. While you’re here don’t forget to check out The Charleston, upscale waterfront restaurant serving amazing fresh seafood dishes. After eating, next door, visit the Sea Chest where you can get local souvenirs. While on the beach, primarily in the spring, you will find many horseshoe crabs along the shoreline during there mating season. They will not cause you harm.

For a fun day trip, you can visit the town of Bridgeton. Here they have a free zoo, with various animals, including tigers. A children’s splash pad, also is located at the zoo, and open during the summer months. If you travel 3 minutes away you will find yourself at Sunset Lake beach where you can sit and relax, picnic, swim (lifeguard on duty), rent kayaks, or fish off their pier. End the day at the Golden Pigeon, for amazing homecooked diner food. We’ve never left there hungry.

If shopping is your fancy, visit Millville where many Chain stores and restaurants are. For car lovers, visit the Millville Motorway where you can watch races or drive go-karts around the tracks. For the children, visit the new indoor Fun City with trampolines, slides, and ball pits.

We do recommend that you bring your groceries with you to the house. There are limited stores in the area. Closest store is Dollar General, 12-minute drive. Bridgeton and Millville are about 25-minute drives.

*If you are not a bug person, we do not recommend renting the home Mid June- August.* This is the high season time for green heads (type of horse fly), they do bite and cause itching like mosquitos. We do have a mosquito net to put over beach umbrella so you can enjoy the beach. We also recommend a good bug spray, wearing light colors and/or long sleeves to decrease bites. *Remainder of the year limited bugs will affect your vacation.*

Also due to this being a dog friendly home we can not guarantee complete removal of all dog hair. We clean thoroughly on a regular basis, but there can always be an slight amount lingering.

We appreciate you considering our home for your vacation. However, if you choose to stay at our home, there will be no refunds given for your decision of leaving the property earlier than your stay was booked for. The only exception that will be made for refunds, of leaving early, will be if a State of Emergency is issued. Thank you for your understanding.

- "We were so comfortable during our stay! The house is very cute and was clean. The stairs are a little sketchy and I would be cautious of elderly or young children going up and down. You do have to go through all 3 bedrooms to go downstairs but for a single family that was just fine. The sun rooms were my favorite part of the house and I enjoyed watching eagles fly around. There was a beautiful eagles nest towards the back of the property. Out front there was house construction which blocked the direct view of the water, but the beach is only a few houses down! Highly recommend going to Higbees for breakfast and lunch. Greenheads were gone. There were some gnats but they werent bothersome. The host was easy to communicate with and very nice. We would definitely look into this home again for future stays! "

The lower level walkout basement offers an entertainment area and sleeping quarter with two queen beds

Parking is on premises which can easily accommodate up to three cars

Outdoors, a new addition of a huge deck in the front facing the lake to enjoy four season's views. There is a picnic table and gas grill are available for guest use

Note:
Guests coming with larger trailers for the events at the nearby NJ Motorsport Park may have trouble parking or maneuvering through the driveway. NJMP allows you to leave the trailers at their facility until 11 pm, the night before the event.

Lake access is governed by Lake association. With that effect, unfortunately guests are not allowed to use lake for fishing, Kayaking activities. The private piersite across the road is also not for the guest use. However, there is a small public beach, few steps down the street which guests can access when it opens up during the summer months. There will be a minimal beach tag fee collected by lifeguard at the beach

Needless to say, a full house of people all week amounted to multiple garbage bags and a bit of excitement. - When we got there: downstairs tub was stopped up & upstairs toilet wouldn't flush right. We fixed both. - Back sliding glass door wouldn't lock and no stick to manually brace it closed/locked. - Pictures don't match what was there. Although pictures have TVs in the rooms, they had all been removed. - Enough space between stair rails that kids can fit through (our 6 year old could) - No hand towels and limited large towels so bring your own "

- "My sister and I spent 10 fun filled days at this lovely home. The queen bed in the first bedroom was sooo comfortable that I just wanted to lay in bed and watch tv. They even have a variety of firm and soft pillows. If you like to cook, the kitchen has just about everything you need to accomplish your task. They even have biscuit cutters and a manual pasta maker. There are spices and a few canned goods in the cupboards, a variety of plastic bags from sandwich to gallon size, parchment paper, and aluminum foil. All we really needed to bring was food and bottled water. This really is a nice home with four bedrooms, two baths and a laundry room in the basement. You will need to supply your own body soap, shampoo and laundry soap, but that’s about it. We had a great time here, even though the weather was crappy for about five of the ten days. The bedroom upstairs has an amazing deck right on top the water it is simply breath taking. Towels and linens were new full stocked kitchen ( all appliances pots pans new) Easy access to internet and wifi was simple. This home is just 5 minutes drive from the upcoming Tiger Woods/Mike Trout Championship Reserve golf course in Vineland which is slated to open 2025.
For motor enthusiasts, NJ Mtor Park is about 20 minutes drive. There are many other attractions in Vineland and near by Millville, including Wine Yards, Hiking trails, charming historic towns, fishing villages, Jersey beaches making it the perfect base for adventure, fun or relaxation.

House is less than an hour drive from Philadelphia and roughly 2.5 hrs from the New York City. Popular South Jersey beaches are only 40 mins. away.

Maurice River Bluffs Nature Preserve Trails, Seasonal Maurice River Boat Cruise, Levoy Performing Arts Theater, Wheaton American Glass Arts Museum, Cape May Zoo, Army and Air Field museum, Crabbing in Turkey Point.

Vineland and Millville has many popular restaurants and fast food chains along with lots of stores for your shopping.

Jersey's highly rated Wildwood, CapeMay, Ocean City beaches/ boardwalks are only 40 mins. drive. Atlantic City is less than an hour. You can spend a day at the beach/ boardwalk and return to this tranquil home by the night

The weather didn’t cooperate to enjoy the pool, but we did hang out outside at the bar. The inside was very spacious with comfortable beds. The host was very helpful. Sit and relax on the spacious deck overlooking the Delaware Bay, listen to the waves as the tides come and go, or enjoy the symphony of the shore birds and surrounding nature from the vast marshland with Money Island in the distance. It’s only a short walk to the small public beach to put your feet in the sand and cool off on a hot day or collect beach glass. Don’t forget your fishing gear!

Horseshoe cove is an eclectic cottage with views of the bay and marshland.
The first floor includes a screened-in porch with sitting and dining areas, complete with bay view and deck access. Once you enter the home there is a light-filled family room and dining room, a fully stocked kitchen, a sitting room with puzzles, games and books, full bath, and a bedroom with a full sized bed and private access to the deck. Upstairs you will find a large open concept bedroom that sleeps 4. Originally intended to be two separate bedrooms, but kept open to allow for the bay breeze and 360 views. There is also another full bath with shower stall.
The outdoor space includes a large deck off of the family room, and a smaller deck off of the kitchen that includes an outdoor shower and grill. Parking is available onsite for 2-3 cars.

One of the things we love most about Gandy’s Beach is the nature. Please be respectful of this special place and leave it better than you found it.

This is a small quiet community. In order to respect our neighbors we request that there are no large or loud parties.

It is about 45 minutes to 1 hour from the major shore points. The grocery store is about 20-30 minutes away.

Our home is lovely, but it certainly isn’t Pinterest perfect. It’s lived in and loved. We are always working on improving it and making it even better for our family and guests. We keep it stocked with necessities and promise that you will make lasting memories here.

No smoking, vaping, etc. within the property including the screened in porch.

The best time to enjoy the beach area is at low tide. There is not much beach due to erosion at high tide. We strongly suggest water shoes!

Activities that many enjoy here are birding, boating, kayaking, photography, sea glass hunting, swimming, fishing, crabbing.

Bugs can be a pain some days when the bay breeze does not keep them at bay. Bring your bug spray. The most challenging months are June and July.

Due to the nature of living on an island, it is important to limit indoor water use. Please use the outdoor shower as much as possible. The septic only has a small holding tank.

Guests will have access to the entire home with the exception of the owners closet.
We ask that our guests tidy the home prior to departure to make cleaning easier.

Although the home is not pet friendly to our guests at the moment, the owners do have dogs that visit from time to time. Just a note for those who have allergies.

Guests are responsible for any property damage.

The cottage is 100 years old made of wood. It is a great place to unwind with the bay at your front door.
Natural linens on the beds and simple original furniture makes this a place to unwind, fish, meditate watch the sunset.

- "This home is the most beautiful and comfortable place we could have imagined. My dad, my sister, and I stayed for a long weekend in order to go to the craft festival at Wheaton Arts. It was wonderful to wake up in this peaceful place and return each afternoon. There is ideal space for relaxing together downstairs or on the deck, but also 3 separate bedrooms upstairs to never feel crowded in together. Beds are comfy with high quality pillows and lovely linens. The kitchen is set up perfectly for making coffee and doing a little cooking or anything you need. We're hoping to return next year."
