The carpark is rough. Staff made an effort to welcome us, offering fresh milk for the room and help with luggage. Rooms were clean but need some updating especially the TV which you couldn't keep plugged in if you wanted to boil a kettle. You have to move the bedside tables to access the sockets by the bed. The bathroom was well appointed with a modern finish. The shower took some working out and you will get wet switching it on! Breakfast was good, nice to have fresh fruit and cooked to order hot dishes. All that said we think it is overpriced."

The washing machine and dryer were very welcome. The lounge room was also well equipped with free Netflix, and the cottage had good wifi and TV signals. The bed is a double, but comfy. Glenys, the owner is lovely and sent great directions to find the cottage. You will need to find it in daylight. We opted to eat in both nights, TA once and slow cooked meal another. In the heart of Dolgellau is Hope House (Ty-Gobaith), a beautifully renovated historic town house packed full of charm and oozes character throughout. Brought up to a luxurious standard, the property comfortably sleeps up to six guests in three bedrooms across four levels, including a mezzanine. Dolgellau on your doorstep makes a wonderful location to visit, yet an even better base to visit the nearby villages, mountains, forests and meandering river to the coastline.

The front door from the street opens into a sizeable hallway with coat hooks, a chair and shoe and boot storage. To the right is both a kitchen, breakfast room and a gorgeous lounge diner. Original features of the historic property are present throughout. The cream coloured units in the kitchen are stylish with a white stone effect worktop and include a built in eye level oven and grill, gas hob, dishwasher and free standing fridge freezer. A small breakfast table with two seats is positioned at the other end of the room in a bright spot next to the window. Heading through into the lounge diner, this stunning room also shows off the property's historical features with a beautiful inglenook fireplace built into the stone wall to one end. A log burner is located within the fireplace on a slate hearth surrounded by brass accessories and string lights. Two armchairs are positioned around the fireplace, and opposite, a six seater traditional farmhouse dining table is the perfect spot for social evenings in. There is also a useful utility room with a washing machine, dryer, games, and a working area.

Heading up to the first floor, the layout comprises a double master bedroom, a twin room, which can be made into a Super King and family bathroom. The double room has beautifully contrasting dark wood beams against the white ceiling. A white wooden framed double bed is positioned to one side with bedside tables and lamps. The opposite end of the room features a large chest of drawers, clothes storage cupboard and an additional table with lamp, alongside a charming wooden rocking chair. A stable door opens out onto a decked balcony to the rear of the property, maximising the outdoor space. The second bedroom, a twin, is a cosy space with two divan single beds, (which can be made into a Super King on request) alongside traditional furniture and a built in cupboard for clothes storage. The main bathroom is beautifully decorated with Victorian style bathroom units including a basin, WC and bath with shower over.

With a quirky layout to the building, the second floor of this elegant town house features a double height lounge with a games room area. With a vaulted ceiling and tall windows, this open plan space features two large sofas, Smart TV and an impressive stone fireplace with a log burner. A table football game is located away from the seating area, ideal for the kids and adults alike. A door from this area leads into a secondary bathroom with basin, WC and walk in shower cubicle. Completing the layout of the property, a staircase leads up to a mezzanine bedroom located above the lounge. With a superking bed, which can be split into twin beds, a chest of drawers and side chair, there are electric Velux windows in the pitched roof to allow in natural light.

The outdoor area and garden at the back of the property as well as steps up to the first floor balcony, also accessed from the double bedroom. The balcony provides a sheltered access into the rear of Hope House, with a great bike storage area as well as log storage for the log burners. It's only a short walk from the property to all the amenities the town offers, from pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops. Dolgellau is a great base to explore Southern Snowdonia as well as the coastal areas nearby. There are also some fantastic walks including the Mawddach Trail, a nine mile walking route following an old disused railway line from Dolgellau to Barmouth - a wonderful seaside resort with a lovely beach. For more experienced hiker looking for a challenge, the walking route to Cader Idris, the highest mountain in Southern Snowdonia, is about 15 minutes drive away. The hike is quite a challenge but the views are worth the hard work.

For mountain bikers, Coed-y-Brenin Forest Park is a short drive away. This scenic woodland is home to some world class biking trails, as well being home to a visitor centre and a number of walking trails. Mountain Bikes and E-Bikes are available for hire if desired. Water sports lovers should take a short drive to nearby Bala, where the Bala Adventure and Watersports Centre at Llyn Tegid provide activities including kayaking, windsurfing, sailing and paddle boarding. For a more relaxing experience, rowing boats are available to hire. This area of Southern Snowdonia is a fabulous base for a trip to North Wales. With epic mountain scenery, dense forests and spectacular coastline, it's a great alternative to the busier spots in the heart of the National Park.

Riverside Cottage (Bwthyn ger yr afon in Welsh), is a tranquil private cottage within the Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) and close to the Mawddach trail. It is a haven for wildlife and nature enthusiasts close to woodland, beaches, mountains & lakes.

We love the outdoors, especially the animals we are able to observe and share it with. Sitting outside and listening to the bubbling river Gwynant flow by whilst taking in the surroundings and all the noises of the wildlife is uplifting for the soul, you may even be lucky and spot the dippers as they fly past under the bridge.

The cottage is ideally located; if you wish you can just walk from it and reach a lot of wonderful places. The drive down through the California redwoods is spectacular and we love Abergwynant woods which are a short walk down the road from the cottage. Abergwynant woods are stunning and wonderful to explore. They are tranquil with lots of bird life; including blackcaps, great spotted woodpeckers and flycatchers to name a few. A short distance away you reach the open estuary of the Mawddach trail, from here plenty of waders and other wildlife can be seen. If you are feeling energetic you could carry on walking and cross the Barmouth viaduct into the town to refresh and treat yourself!

If you want to you can jump in your car and go explore the many magnificent sights the area has. Within a short distance there are mountains, lakes, beaches, wooded valleys and stunning views, and approximately an hour away the stunning Yr Wyddaf (Mount Snowdon). During the breeding season, you can visit osprey nests at visitor centres and see the wildlife superstars of the area! For those who like mechanical birds, the Mach Loop is a 12 minute drive away and aircraft can often be heard passing over the area.

Dolgellau the local town, is only a 10 minute drive and has stores you can stock up in, as well as places to browse around, and eateries to relax and recharge in.

The cottage itself has ample parking, whilst inside there is all the equipment you need to ensure your stay is cozy and comfortable.

The cottage has two bedrooms; the first with a king sized bed, and the second which, is accessed through the first bedroom, with a small double. We are trying to make Riverside Cottage as sustainable as we can, so all bedding and soft furnishings are filled with wool. This includes the duvets, pillows and cushion inserts. Wool is not only more sustainable, it also has excellent thermo-regulation properties helping keeping you warm or cool as needed.

The living area has a sofa and two comfy chairs, each chair with their own footstool, our resident sheep Aber and Gwyn! There is a TV in the living room and first bedroom, fast WiFi throughout the cottage and two USB charging plugs for those who would like to use them. The cottage is heated by electric radiators as well as an electric stove. There is a fridge-freezer in the living room, and a dining area from which you can look out on the garden and river.

The cottage has a well equipped kitchen and guests will be provided with an inventory ahead of their trip so they can plan accordingly. The bathroom has a bath and electric shower and all guests will be provided with a bath towel and face towel.

Outside there are three different seating areas; a picnic table near the river, a table and chairs to sit and enjoy the garden, and a love seat to relax in by the front porch. In time we are hoping to add a hide in the garden to help visitors have the chance to observe more closely the wildlife around us.

- "Riverside Cottage is situated in a fairytale setting, with woodland behind and the river in front of the cottage. Access is easy, however, and we had no problems finding it. We could park the car close to the front door. Gaining entry was easy, following the clear instructions we'd received, and we found the cottage clean, comfortable and surprisingly spacious. In the evening when the temperature dropped the electric fire warmed the living area up very quickly. We slept very well. The location is very convenient for visiting nearby attractions, and we visited The Ffestiniog Railway, the Talyllyn Railway and the Vale of Rheidol Railway during our stay, taking in Barmouth, Porthmadog and Aberystwyth. We ate out once, down the road at the George III pub at Penmaenpool, which was very nice and had very quick service. The rest of the time we cooked in the cottage. We will be back and next time will be spending more time watching out for the wildlife!"

Stone and slate cottage dating back hundreds of years with views of the Cader Idris mountain and range on the outskirts of Dolgellau in south Snowdonia. Large mature garden, BBQ, plenty of parking and secure bike storage. Three bedrooms, cast iron bath and shower in separate bathrooms. Conservatory with magnificent views, also views from all windows and especially from the bedrooms. Detached and private with footpaths / cycle paths practically from the door. Wifi internet and satellite tv. Inglenook fireplace, leather sofas, wooden floors, central heating, dishwasher, washing machine etc. Just under 3 miles to the historic town of Dolgellau with wonderful eating places / cafes and within walking distance of the Cross Foxes pub along public footpath. Mach Loop low flying aircraft fly in front of and often below the cottage. Most of our guests return to Penybryn time after time.

Mark and Gwerfyl were excellent hosts - they live next door so are on hand if you need anything, but left us to ourselves after welcoming us and showing us around. The house is well appointed and comfortable, and the remote location with views up to Cadair Idris means it’s a great place to get away from it all. Although it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, Dolgellau is only 15 minutes drive, and there’s a pub a short walk away. The only downside of the remoteness was the speed of the wifi - don’t expect a fast connection for remote working or streaming. We’d love to stay again, if we can get a booking!"

This welcoming cottage is set near the market town of Dolgellau. You’ll have access to walks from your doorstep such as the Mawddach Trail, which follows an old disused railway line and Cader Idris, the highest mountain in Snowdonia. Head to the seaside resort of Barmouth, 9 miles away, for a sand and shingle beach, a picturesque harbour and fine views of Cardigan Bay or a take the Talyllyn Steam Train from Tywyn, 20 miles away, for a scenic route across ravines and through farmland and ancient woodland.
The light and modern kitchen has been designed to maximise the space and a slate floor gives a cool feel in summer and a comforting feel in winter with its heat retention properties. The inviting sofa in the living room is just the place to relax after a day out and about or to spend a cosy night in in-front of the log burner. All four guests can sit at the dining table and enjoy a leisurely breakfast or an evening meal. The family bathroom with shower and WC is located on the ground floor.

- "This property is in a beautiful, remote location very close to the mountain biking area of Coed y Brenin. The owner has a private track down to the river Mawddach which leads onto the Coed y Brenin forest tracks so ideal for mountain biking and trail running. We also walked Cadair Idris and went to the beaches at Barmouth and Harlech all of which were within 40 minutes drive. The house itself was very comfortable with a log-burner and induction hob in the kitchen and the outside area had a BBQ and log pit with charcoal and logs supplied. Marek was very helpful and has his own professional archery range which guests can book. We would recommend this holiday for those who want to get away from it all and make the most of all the activities the area has to offer."

- "Delightful home with amazing views of the mountains. There was everything we could possibly need for our family including quality bedlinen and towels. Gwyneth was a delight to communicate with. We were surprised to see cake and wine to greet us on arrival....how nice is that! The home is up a steep hill (hence the fab views) and would be difficult to climb for someone older or physically challenged. We did the climb a few times but then opted to use the car as parking is really easy just over the bridge in the village. A great stay. Lovely and clean. Great showers in this heat. Big enough for all of us to be together but not on top of one another. Space outside for the children to play too!"
