de la Morandiere Rock, as the property is known, has been in the same family since it was built in the early 1960s. Perched atop a giant granite boulder, the lodge has beautiful and uninterrupted views of the La Cloche Mountains and Georgian Bay. Located just outside the famous boating town of Killarney, the property offers a uniquely beautiful escape. Its proximity to Killarney allows for access to restaurants and other services. Visitors will stay in the main house on the 60 acre property, which also has three other small cabins owned by the same family. Killarney Provincial Park, which is only 5 km away, allows guests to be completely immersed in nature with trails, lakes, camping grounds, and guided trips.
de la Morandiere's natural beauty is enhanced by its quiet location on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The long dock that extends from the property is the perfect place to view a sunset or to sit and observe the wildlife surrounding the house. The lodge offers a relaxing base camp for day trips in the surrounding area. Outside of the main entrance is a gazebo with a gas grill for outdoor dinners, as well as an original totem pole, commissioned when the house was built. A small screened-in porch also allows for bug-free star gazing at night.
The property sits along 2,000 ft. of shoreline, and canoes are available at the small beach just below the lodge. The La Cloche Mountains also provide endless opportunities for hiking and exploring. Whether you're interested in day hiking or overnight backpacking, there are trails for everyone.
The summer of 2011 will be the first summer that the lodge is open to renters. In the past it has remained private, only used by the family. We hope that you come to love and appreciate this spectacular place as much as we have over the past 50 years.
We are closed from Canadian Thanksgiving till Spring
Dogs are most welcome but we ask that you vacuum all furniture and sweep. It takes a lot of extra time and effort (as you know if you own dogs) and we appreciate your kindness. Note, our season is from mid June to Thanksgiving. The first two weeks of June and from late sept-closing 3 day slots are available, otherwise its from Saturday to Saturday. The lake in front of the house freezes in October and thaws in late May. It is not insulated so please don’t ask to rent outside those parameters.

- "Such a beautiful property and an amazing lodge very rustic with history around you. This is a great place for a family or friends to stay any time of year. It’s always sunny in Killarney." - "Our third time staying at this spectacular location. We really love this cottage - comfortable, endearingly vintage and a setting that is second to none. Morning coffee at sunrise sitting on the pink granite with the most incredible water view - it's always difficult to leave. Highly recommend. We did have to bring our own toilet paper, paper towels and bed linens - otherwise everything else we needed. A stone's throw from excellent dining at the resorts in Killarney. We'll hope to be back next summer. Thank you, Jonathan."

Get back to nature for serenity and fun. Hike the many trails and mountains, rock climb secluded shorelines, pick wild blueberries and raspberries, or fish for bass, pike, muskie and rainbow trout. Photograph or paint your scenic surroundings. You will be staying ion Jumbo Island which is centrally located in McGregor Bay for trips around the bay or just relax on the docks or in the water.
Accommodation
The log cottage has the following sleeping accommodations, which can sleep 12. One queen size bed in the main bedroom and two bunk beds, one double bed, two single beds all in separate bedrooms. Additional beds in sun porch. The log building has lots of history where famous people have visited over the years. In its glory President Roosevelt visited in 1948. The Newmans were said to visit frequently as they were friends of the owners.
The kitchen has an electric stove, coffee maker, fridge, freezer and toaster. There is also a propane barbecue. Living room boasts a big rock fireplace which heats the building.. Water is pumped to the cottage by electric pump. There is a large electric hot water tank. The water is filtered but we do recommend boiling it or bringing bottled drinking water. There are games and playing cards. as well as Starlink Internet for a small fee.

Would stay again!" - "The cabin was spacious and very comfortable. This has got to be the most well provisioned cabin I have ever stayed in. I have stayed in many different cabins from gatlinburg to Minnesota and I have never seen a more well prepared cabin than this one. Five stars for sure. It has a rustic yet beautiful feel to it. PARADISE FOUND!
In the setting of its own private 3-acre island located in McGregor Bay, you will find our charming cedar log cottage. This amazing structure was built more than 50 years ago by Native artisans and is as beautiful today as it was then. It consists of two bedrooms, two baths, a living room, modern kitchen, and a glassed-in screened porch. The cottage comfortably sleeps six. When the windows of the porch are open, it provides 2/3 open-air comfort. Anything you could possibly want to use in a kitchen is there, so you don’t need to worry about bringing any kitchen stuff. The kitchen is more than adequately equipped with modern appliances, which includes a Jenn-Aire range and grill, refrigerator, freezer, coffee maker, toaster and solid maple butcher-block countertops. A washer and dryer are also located in the kitchen area. The cottage is serviced by a septic system and has normal indoor plumbing with hot and cold running water. We supply all bedding and towels. To help lighten your load we also provide: paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, laundry soap, dish washing liquid. Cottage also equipped with Smart TV, Starlink Internet/Wi-Fi and audio system. A wood-burning stove insert has been added to the fireplace to provide sufficient heat on chilly days. The island is conveniently located 10 minutes away from the J&G or Still Water marinas where your car can be parked. For guests without a personal boat there is a water taxi service. A motor boat is also available for an additional charge.
Complimenting the cottage, are two decks. The front deck (with redwood deck furniture) is just steps away from the waterfront, and provides spectacular views of both sunrises and sunsets. The waterfront provides a great swimming/sunning/fishing area. There are two kayaks (with paddles) and canoe for use. Great fishing is at your fingertips.
The rear deck provides a beautiful serene setting overlooking a quiet view of the water where you will spot all kinds of wildlife. There's a gas grill/BBQ, hammock, patio table, chairs and umbrella. Very rarely will you see a boat back here.......it's that quiet!!
The area lends itself to spectacular views for both artists and/or photographers. The famous Canadian artists -- 'The Group of Seven' -- used McGregor Bay as a base for many of their famous paintings.
This is a wonderful opportunity to relax and restore in one of the most beautiful and unique areas of North America.

- "The cabin was the perfect size for our group of 6 which included 2 teenagers and 2 Grandmothers 75+. We had enough space and choices to spread out yet cozy to eat together and play games in the evening. You get the experience of living on your own private island with the convenience of being close to the marina if a trip to town is needed. The cabin is well stocked with kitchen items as well as towels and toiletries. Will definitely book again!!!"

Our island is about 4 acres, with a variety of trees from white birch, oak, maple, white pine and lots of cedar. We have wonderful swimming right off our dock. Trophy pike, musky , bass, perch, splake, lake trout, pickeral and pan fish abound.
Remember, you are in the Great Lakes. Because we are located in a sheltered bay the water temperature is great for swimming and other water sports. The island is conveniently located and easy to get to and from the small marina where your vehicle will be parked.
This is truly a special place offering a great get away with modern conveniences. For those into photography this is the place. You will find fantastic sunsets, wildlife and wonderful panoramic views everywhere you look. I also recommend a day trip exploring Manitoulin the worlds largest fresh water island.
You will feel like you've gone back in time, with beautiful pastoral landscapes, split rail fences, inland lakes and quaint port towns offering shopping and great places to eat. But if you are like me, you may not want to leave the bay. For those who treasure nature and a comfortable retreat away from resorts and the city.

There were potential difficulties with getting there through the marina which is on native land. He offered a refund close to our date but it all worked out. The property is as advertised. It is beautifully rustic. The only down side is that it is near the marina and there could be a lot of boat traffic (which we did not experience because the Americans could not get across the border). The Church Mouse Cafe / The Nesting Place
Cabins and Cafe are all on the same property.
Owners Larry & Nicole Bond along with family membes helped to renovate this delapitated old Catholic Church that was originally built in 1912.
Once the building was completed it was turned into a Cafe and named "The Church Mouse Cafe". Light breakfasts and lunches are offered on certain days.
A place to come and sit and relax inside or out. Homemade local crafts are displayed throughout the building that may also peak your interest.
During COVID we added 3 "Off The Grid" cabins which we named "The Nesting Place" and built a new shower house for our guest.
Located at the back of the property we have a fire pit and sitting area which can be used when there is no fire ban.
We are situated within walking distance to the Whitefish River which flows into north channel lake Huron.
We are also surounded by several hiking trails all part of the La Cloche Mountains. Put on your hiking gear and see our beautiful landscape.
Our waters are well known for great fishing so bring your fishing gear and bathing suit to take a dip in the freshwater.
Manitoulin Island is another point of interest, a tourist destination to many and is only a 20 minute drive from us . It certainly worth exploring if your looking for something to do for a couple hours or a day. The Island has several points of interest including amazing beaches.
A small variety store is in our community where some groceries, wood & gas can be purchased.
Wanting more variety the town of Espanola is 15 min drive away. They have grocery stores and a various retail shops to help you with your needs.
Here are a few interesting facts about our little town of Whitefish Falls.
In the 70's the series Rainbow Country was filmed here. You can find the series on YouTube. It's something to see and some of the buildings are still standing.
Artist of the Group of Seven have painted many paintings in our region. Hike the nearby Willisville mountain to see what inspired some of their work.
We also host the first week of July a well known artshow named The La Cloche Art Show. Artist from all over take part in this juried event. It has been going on for over 40 ys. and it's a free event for the public to attend and purchase art should they choose.

Rustic home with large backyard and pool. Deck and patio with BBQ get full sun all day. A fire pit in the backyard for evenings - local bylaw allows for fires only from dusk-dawn. Pets are welcome but not in the pool area.
5 minute drive to the many amenities in Espanola including shopping, golfing and other recreation. Manitoulin Island is 45mins away.
We are happy to host you for your stay in Espanola. This home is very old and quite rustic. As such, I have upgrades that are scheduled but unfortunately have not yet been completed.
Smoking and vaping outside plz.
Climate:
· The house does NOT have air conditioning. The good news is that there is a pool.
· The house stays cool if you do not allow the hot air in.
· I typically open the windows after supper when the air is cooling off and I close the windows in the morning before I leave for the day. This keeps the 30 degree air from filling the house. Windows on the west side of the house are best to have curtains closed as well to block out the beating sun.
· If you leave the windows open during the day, the house will heat up quickly.
· The door out to the BBQ faces west and see’s very hot afternoons. There is a basic paper shade with clips on the door. Dropping the shade will help greatly at reducing the heat in the kitchen.
· Going in and out of the door to the pool frequently will also heat up the house. I often encourage kids and guests to enter the door at the rear of the house to use the bathroom etc. to avoid the hot air filling the kitchen. It’s a small thing that makes a big difference.
Water:
· The house has hot water on demand, so it takes a couple of minutes for the faucets to distribute hot water. More so in the kitchen because it’s a distance from the appliance.
· Occasionally, water will have an orange appearance. Let it run, it will clear. We have a large concentration of iron in this area of town, and it will present itself from time to time. It is not harmful, it’s just a nuisance.
· The refrigerator has a filtered water and ice built in. Tap water is safe to drink.
Kitchen:
· Cutlery and utensils are in the drawers within the kitchen island.
· Within the cupboards and drawers there is air fryer, sandwich grill, magic bullet and other appliances.
· I have labeled the dishwasher buttons that will best suit your needs.
Pool:
· Main power to the pool pump is on the back wall of the pump house. Red lever.
· I typically run the pump during the day and shut it down at night. The pump only needs to run for part of the day. It is not required to run 24 hours a day.
· The pool liner was replaced 2 yrs ago and is free of any tears and holes. Plz do not allow dogs in the pool, and any pool toys should be vinyl pool liner friendly.
· I will come once each week to vacuum and maintain the pool. Plz advise what day/time is convenient.
· Some of the deck boards need replacing. Plz use care on the deck. We do not want any injuries!
Bathroom
· My bathroom is scheduled for renovations and so I apologize for its dated condition.
· The shower is clean. But it is old, and it shows. There is shampoo, conditioner, and body wash for your use.
There are plenty of beach towels. Plz provide your own face clothes and towels.
· We are on a septic system so plz do not flush anything other than toilet paper. Baby wipes, Q-tips etc. may cause blockages.
Laundry:
· Plz feel free to launder your street cloths and bedding
· Any work clothes may be washed at the laundro-mat in town.
Cleaning Service:
· If you require a service clean throughout your stay, you may hire your own if you have one, or you may contact Laurie-Anne at 705-862-2465 or Ashley at 705-918-7683. Either one will try to accommodate you. **Cleaning services are not included in the rental fees. **
· There is mop, bucket, broom, and cleaning supplies in the house.
Fire Bylaw:
· Espanola has a backyard fire bylaw. No fires are permitted between dawn and dusk.
· Please provide your own firewood.
This is our primary home, and we live here year-round. We have a cottage nearby that allows us the flexibility to place this house as a short-term rental. We are pleased to host you and kindly ask that you respect our property as if it was your own.
Im sure the cool pool will be a lovely reward at the end of your tiring workday.

Welcome! Our family has been spending summers in McGregor Bay at our cottage for 50 years. We have many fond memories of fishing, hiking, swimming and playing games with family. We are excited to open up our home to others for a few weeks in the summer so they can enjoy making the same memories.
About the Property: Our cabin is located on a one acre island in McGregor Bay a mile from the marina. This picturesque island is the perfect place to make many family memories. Whether you enjoy fishing, birding, kayaking, hiking, sunbathing, or catching breathtaking views from the large wrap around deck, this is the place for you!
Getting Here: A water taxi can be used to get to the cabin or you can bring your own boat to launch from the marina. Boat rentals are also available at Stillwater Marina.
The Little Cabin: Upon arriving to the island you will find two cabins. The first is a bunk house we now use to store personal items. We do have blow up water toys, life jackets and kayaks available for your use which you will find here.
The Big Cabin: As you walk up the path from the bunk house you will see a larger two story cabin which consists of three bedrooms, one and a half baths and an open living space. There is also an outdoor shower. Upon entering the cabin you will find a beautiful stone fireplace, open living space and an eat in kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped and includes a coffee maker, microwave, toaster, blender, full size refrigerator, electric stove and enough place settings for 6. The cabin has running water, however, we do not drink the water. Please bring 5 gallon jugs for the water cooler. There is a utility room with a washer and dryer for your use.
Bedrooms: All bedrooms have linens and we have plenty of bath and beach towels.
Bedroom 1: Has a king bed on the main floor with an attached full bath.
Bedroom 2: Queen bedroom upstairs which shares an attached half bath with bedroom 3.
Bedroom 3: Double and twin bed.
The Deck: Catch breathtaking sunsets and enjoy morning coffee from the large wrap around deck. Please note that while the deck has a railing, it is not fully enclosed. While the island is a great place to spend time with family, younger children will need to be monitored at all times.
House Expectations: Please take care of our property as you would your own. When you leave, take all garbage and recycling with you. Also, please leave all dirty linens in the laundry room. Check in is at 3:00 and check out is at noon.
We hope you enjoy your time!
- "Cottage is comfy, clean and worked well for our family of 5. We brought our own boat. The marina launch is good and staff helpful. The dock at the cottage was in good shape and not difficult to dock our 21 ft boat. The cottage deck has great views and it was a relaxing week. The bbq is like new and functioned well. A great relaxing week on macgregor bay."

The space:
Our Boathouse is on an island in McGregor Bay on 1.5 acres of land, 10 km from Still Water Marina. There are two other cottages on the island (that are not visible from the place). The nearest neighbour has a dock about 30 meters from the back deck of the boathouse, and their house is about 90 meters up the hill. The living space is a studio apartment. There is not an enclosed bedroom, the bed is tucked away behind a curtain. There are big windows on all sides of the building and five skylights in the ceiling. This allows for a big, well-lit open space, with great views in all directions. There are no window coverings or black out curtains. There are two other rooms, a combo bathroom/dressing room, and a pantry with a refrigerator, washer and dryer.
Guests will have exclusive use of the Boathouse and the 1.5 acres of land it is on. Please respect the private property of the other neighbours on the island. Guests will be advised of the property boundaries at check-in
Other things to note:
The Boathouse is a water-access only property. Park your car at Still Water Marina or McGregor's Landing in Birch Island, ON. You will need to check in and pay for parking. We are about a 10 km boat ride from the marinas. It is best to have your own boat, and have sufficient boating skills to navigate the waters of McGregor Bay while avoiding the various underwater shoals. The Navionics Boating App can help with this. There are boat rentals at Still Water Marina. You can also take a boat taxi each way from either of the marinas.
