- "Okay. Last year I was pretty harsh on the Casabela Hotel. But here my partner and I find ourselves back home in the UK after another great holiday in Portugal. We love Portugal… especially Ferragudo. The Casabela Hotels location is amazing. I will say it again, the hotels location is amazing. This is why we love it. The staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive. The rooms are spacious and we always for the Sea View as there is the possibility of Mosquitos so being higher up that’s less likely. The sea view is quite the view first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Now to the buts… but the beds are too hard and you can get a nights sleep in them. But boy they are hard! Something we are willing to put up with. Again, after our stay last year I noted no complimentary Tea or Coffee making facilities and also no mini bar. Something you’d expect from a Four Star Hotel. The breakfast for is okay to good but could be better. Maybe with a breakfast menu with more specialist breakfasts like Eggs Benedict etc. But due to the location we over look these short falls. But… The beds could be better The bathrooms need an overhaul - as they’re pretty dated. The breakfast buffet is okay but could be better. The rooms could do with complimentary Tea and Coffee facilities. The plus points The Hotel is super clean. The bed linen is always clean and fresh The staff are friendly and very helpful. The Algarve, Ferragudo: Situated to the south of Portugal, on the southwest tip of Europe, the Algarve has one of the world's most beautiful, unspoilt stretches of coast land and has been described as a unique jewel with the finest sandy beaches and the perfect sunny climate with a world-renowned reputation. The Algarve is one of Europe's sunniest spots and beautiful weather can be enjoyed throughout the year. In the winter months, when the sun goes down, if the evening is cool, then a nice log fire in the villa makes for a cosy setting. For some clients all that is needed is a low key relaxing holiday, for others the prerequisite will be a private pool and a large safe sandy beach for the children to play on, Ferragudo has something for everyone of all ages.
Ferragudo Village with its elevated structure and whitewashed houses, still provides all that's good about tradition and yet manages to meet the demands of its visitors without disruption. We are pleased to welcome back guests time and again.

Getting to Ferragudo: We have guests who arrive at both Faro Airport, Seville and Lisbon. The villa is about 45 minutes drive from Faro and we can organise for you to be met at the airport if you do not wish to hire a car. Car hire is not essential but collection is easily organised at the airport or can be arranged locally in Ferragudo. Some clients are met at the airport and taken to the villa and then hire a car locally for a few days only, if they wish to get out and about. For clients coming into Lisbon and Seville, the drive is about three hours and motorway most of the way. If you decide to drive, we provide information before you travel on directions to the villa.

Train is an option from Faro to Portimao or Ferrugudo but be aware that whilst the trains are traditional and clean in true Portuguese relaxed and chilled style, they do take a little time to get you to your destination.

There isn't a month that isn't beautiful in this location. In the winter months the bright sunny days are beautiful for long walks or for just sitting around in the village square having coffee and light refreshments. In the early months of the year there are often local festivals and it's a joy to see the local residents and their families enjoying the activity. Visitors are always made to feel welcome.

Golf Courses:
The villa is close to Alamos Golf; Alto, Gramacho Golf; Palmares, Penina, Pinta, Vale De Milho and Vale de Lobo golf resorts. We have clients who return to our villa year after year to play, some of them having other family members who prefer to go to the beach whilst the gofers go off blissfully knowing that they have as long as they need to play a round or two of golf. Some of the go.fing enthusiasts take their partners along with them to the golf resort and surprise their partners with lovely pampering sessions in the resort spa or beauty salon.

Activities for the family: The villa overlooks the beach and is within easy access of water sport facilities, a marina, zoos, marine parks, aqua playgrounds, diving, fishing, sailing, golf and horse riding. The beach is long and wide, the sea on the local beach is usually calm and safe for children to swim unlike some of the smaller beaches which surround the coastline. There are four excellent, family orientated beach cafes/bars offering good refreshments and sun umbrellas and lounge chairs if that is what is wanted. Beach volleyball and kite flying can also be seen frequently at the end of the day when the sun is going down. If one is really lucky, you will see a past Portuguese kite windsurfing champions in action on the Praire Grande beach, (the local beach).

From Ferragudo quayside, a small boat will take you for a few euros across to the Portimao marina where you can enjoy more restaurants, a luxurious beach facility or just a stroll along another beach boardwalk. Great for adults and children.

Our kids loved exploring the village. The gorgeous beach was about a 5 minute walk and lots of fun for everyone. The playground was a huge plus. Not too far from the villa was one of our favorite restaurants, The Piano Garden, with the delightful garden views and delicious curries. The service was outstanding. As for activities, our young kids loved ZooMarine , in particular the dolphin show, where the emphasis was on human/dolphin interaction. We also drove to Silves...an incredible historical town. And we did a day trip to Evora to see the Cromeleque does Almendres, 100 + Standing Stones just outside the city. Wow! At 7000 years old, this magical place inspires the imagination. The Casa das Laranjeiras, completely renovated in 2013, is quietly yet centrally located in the upper area of the beautiful fishing village of Ferragudo. Right on one of the most picturesque streets in Ferragudos. The fishing village is known for its narrow streets, winding stairs and for its originality. In the village there are a number of recommended Portuguese and international restaurants and several small village shops where you can buy everything for everyday life. The lively market square with its many cafes invites you to linger. Everything can be easily reached within 5 minutes on foot. Larger supermarkets and shops for strolling can be reached in Portimao and Lagoa within a 5-10 minute drive. The nearest beach, Praia Grande, which is very suitable for small children, is only a 7-minute walk away. There are also many beautiful beaches in the Felsalgarve that can be reached on foot or after a short drive. Ferragudo is also a good starting point for hikes in the nearby Monchique Mountains, the summit of which extends to 900m.

Ferragudo is a small fishing village in the Algarve situated on the Arade estuary in front of Portimão. Very picturesque, the village is well preserved in its origin and has cafes, ice cream shops, restaurants, banks, post office, pharmacy, tobacco shop and traditional commerce.

Moving from our house towards Ferragudo, you will find Forte de S. João do Arade (Ferragudo Castle)

Ferragudo Grande Beach is 1000m long, has a blue flag car park, is very quiet and considered one of the best beaches for children in the Algarve. It is guarded by lifeguard with patrol vessel, lookout posts and guarded by the captaincy. With several restaurants and beach cafes, we recommend the "A NAU" Restaurant and Bar and the Kalu Beach Bar. Average water temperature in summer: 22º / Winter: 15º
During summer there is an inflatable park where children can have fun and there are also Kayaks for hire.

Very close but in the opposite direction, about 9km away is also the village of Carvoeiro. With lots of charm and tourism, Carvoeiro is very lively and visited by tourists all year round.

If you like movement and nightlife, head to Praia da Rocha Beach (around 8 km away) where you will find plenty of entertainment, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.

Casa Do Capitao is an attractive two bedroom semi detached villa positioned at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac on a small development in Ferragudo. With a large secluded garden overlooking open countryside and a private pool, our villa sets itself apart from the rest.

We have owned the property since 2017 and have invested in making this our second home. The villa has air conditioning and heating for cooler months, pool heating, Wi-Fi with internet TV, fitted mosquito nets and electric shutters. There are sun-beds with umbrellas and outside tables and chairs. We have also added a traditional Portuguese bbq.

Both bathrooms have walk in showers and heated towel rails, with the upstairs bathroom having underfloor heating and a bath. The light and airy master bedroom has a super-king bed, with sliding doors onto a balcony with table and chairs. The second bedroom has twin beds, with sliding doors onto a Juliet balcony. The modern kitchen Is fully equipped, including fridge freezer, microwave, oven, second fridge for drinks, and a coffee machine.

The property is completely fenced and gated and is accessed through electric gates.

There is an optional additional charge for air conditioning/heating at £85 per week and £125 per week for pool heating. A damage deposit of £400 will be requested prior to your arrival.

Ferragudo is a charming traditional fishing village situated on the eastern side of the river Arade. The village has developed over the years but keeps its natural charm whilst offering all the services that visitors today demand. On the opposite side of the estuary and accessed by water taxi is the well-known resort of Praia da Rocha and the town and marina of Portimão.

Ferragudo offers everything for a relaxing holiday and has an historic central square and quaint cobbled alleyways. The village is very well positioned for shopping, golf, tennis, soft sand beaches and other places of interest and activities. The main beach (Praia Grande) is a10 minute walk and is excellent for children. There are 4 restaurants on the beach. The Nau Bar is open all day into the evening with live music most nights in the high season. Sun loungers, umbrellas, paddle boards and pedalos are all available to rent.

There is a paved footpath from the villa that offers a short cut down to the village road with cafés, various eateries, a general store with a butcher counter and a chemist all less than a 5 minutes walk away. A couple of minutes further along the village is the central square where you will find many bars and restaurants.

Beautiful and spacious house very close to Praia Grande beach, with lovely bedrooms, its own private swimming pool, immaculate garden, pretty roof terrace and sea views. During June, July and August we take Saturday to Saturday bookings only. The house is near the centre of the village - perfect for dining out at the many excellent bars and restaurants in the area. Ferragudo is a pretty unspoilt traditional fishing village, where locals and visitors gather in the village square for morning coffee before wandering along the quayside and down cobbled alleyways to buy daily supplies from local shops or the little fish market. The lovely beaches are just 5 mins away from the square. During the summer a water taxi runs from the quayside to the lively resort of Praia da Rocha, and on Saturday evenings you will find traditional live music and dancing in the square in the middle of some great fish restaurants.

- "Spacious, well-appointed, and equipped villa had everything we needed. Wonderful grounds. The views are amazing and the infinity pool we used every day. Very secure and within walking distance of restaurants. You can walk straight down to the beach, through a secure gate. It's our 3rd visit and we will definitely come again. Would be useful to have a key for the rear gate so our local friend who uses a wheelchair could visit. Can be noisy from the beach bar but outside of your control. No festival in Portimao this year which was a blessing!"

She will give a presentation of the house, will be able to give some local tips and after all the legal requirements have been met, she will hand over the keys, allowing them to move in. privacy to enjoy your stay, but the owners are just a call/message away if you need anything.

FERRAGUDO is a small fishing village that shares the Arade River with Portimão. Between these two banks you will have the privilege of crossing the river aboard a Taxi Boat that provides a fantastic ride from the Ferragudo pier to the Promenade or the Portimão Marina, or both and return whenever you want.
One of the advantages of choosing Ferragudo, for those who want to see the Algarve from end to end (from Barlavento to Sotavento) is that we are right in the middle of the Algarve, being able to move from one side to the other each day, but when the time comes to rest, we have a quality place to make the most of the gastronomy and make the most of the environment.

CLIMATE of ALGARVE
The Algarve, located in the extreme south of Portugal, offers beautiful beaches and glorious sunshine almost all year round. With around 300 days of sunshine per year and idyllic temperatures averaging 14ºC in winter and between 28ºC and 30ºC in summer, rarely falling below 10ºC in winter.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
This property is legally registered with Turismo de Portugal and as such the owners are required by Portuguese law to register all guests (as is done in hotels) with SEF/AIMA, which is the foreigners and borders authority. You will receive the SEF form to fill out and hand over to the owner upon arrival. We appreciate your cooperation.

MUNICIPAL TOURIST TAX: All people aged thirteen and over will have to pay the tourist tax. This municipal tax costs €2/person/night up to a maximum of 7 nights, €14 per stay between April 1st and October 31st and €1 from November 1st to March 31st.
Payment will be made at check-in as long as it has not been charged up to that point.
The receipt issued by us will also reflect this fee, although this tax is for Lagoa City Council.

This lovely duplex townhouse property is located on Vila Castelo resort which is mere 3mins walk from Praia Grande beach and about 5-7mins walk from the quaint Ferragudo town centre. There are views from the terrace/balcony towards the sea and Portimao Marina and town.
The property is on two levels: the main entrance level is an open plan with fully fitted modern kitchen, dining and sitting areas opening to a balcony with a light colour scheme throughout and plenty of natural light. There is also a separate WC with a toilet and a sink next to the kitchen.
The two bedrooms en-suite (double and a twin) are located downstairs from the main entrance level and both have access to private courtyards with chairs and sofas for relaxation away from the sun.
Both en-suite bathrooms have shower units and they were completely refurbished in February 2025 including Sonos music speakers!

A charming house right on the waterfront in the heart of the historical center of Ferragudo. Built late 1800 and recently carefully renovated to a modern standard while preserving its unique character.

A magnificent sunny private roof terrace for BBQ, or just relaxing with a large hot tub and a breathtaking panoramic view. The perfect getaway for an authentic holiday away from mass tourism. Minutes from beaches, golf courses, the nightlife in Praia de Rocha, museums, and shopping malls in Portimão.

Right at your doorstep, you will see the local fishermen unloading their daily catches. 100 meters to the left of the house you have the local fish and fruit market where you can buy local produce and prepare a delicious lunch in the fully equipped modern kitchen or on the roof BBQ. The dinner can be enjoyed by the dining areas on the rooftop or in the living room.

If you turn right and follow the quayside 200 meters you will find Prai Angria, a beach used mostly by the local Portuguese. This is the perfect place for sunbathing or a swim.

If you continue to the fort, stop and try to find its hidden cave. When you continue you will come to the more touristic Pria Grande with all kinds of service including four excellent beach restaurants and rental of water equipment.

Both beaches are protected by wave breakers protecting the beaches from the Atlantic waves in that might make swimming risky at many other beaches in Algarve. After the wave breakers there is a great area for surfing.

Many of our guests just loved the breath-taking beautiful trail that starts at Pria Grande. You follow a marked path and on the cliff edges with absolutely breathtaking views. You pass the beaches of Praia do Molhe, Pintadinho, and Caneiros where you can stop or have a drink. The Seven Hanging Valleys (Sete Vales Susensos) has been named the best Hiking Destination in Europe.

Returning home, you can take a shower on the rooftop shower before watching the magnificent sunset from the hot tub.

After a drink in the launch set on the rooftop, you can go to Tres Dukes and take a bear with the local fishermen. Next door you find Amigo, a very popular place for ex-pats. Continue down the narrow-cobbled alley lined with traditional Portuguese houses takes you to a range of excellent local restaurants. After 200 meters you pass the local butcher, a bread bakery before entering the town square.

Village life still revolves around the quayside square with its narrow cobbled streets and steps, meandering up from the old quay to the summit of the small village with its 2000 inhabitants.

If you are into busier nightlife you can take the water taxi to Pria de Rocha. Within walking distance, you have a casino and many beach bars and nightclubs for every taste.

THE PROPERTY
When you enter the house from the fishing docks there is a traditional hallway, a large master bedroom, and a modern bathroom. You also find a guest room with bunk beds on the first floor.

A traditional narrow and steep stairway leading up to the second floor where there is a lounge with a dining area, sofa, TV, and a reading chair. You also find a second guest bedroom, a modern bathroom, and a kitchen with granite work surfaces, a hood with external ventilation, a high-quality microwave, freezer, fridge stove, and an oven.

There is a kitchen door leading to the narrow-cobbled streets where you might find the neighbor fisherman sitting repairing his fishing nets.

The 50 cm thick walls with charming traditional wood window shutters add to the characteristics of the house and will keep the heat out during the summer. The floors are covered with the original terracotta floor tiles.

Stairs from the hallway lead to the roof tower and the 43 m2 large fantastic private roof terrace. It has sun throughout the day with an astonishing and relaxing 180 degrees view of the blue water, the beach and the town. There is a BBQ area, an outdoor shower, a dining set, a large sofa there to relax and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sunset as well a private hot tub for up to 6 people.

You can easily reach our house by car, shuttle bus or regular bus. The train station in Ferragudo is 2 km from the house. The buses stop a couple of 100 meters from the house.

Faro airport is 47 minutes away by car.
If you opt for a car it is recommended to hire a car at the airport. Car hire is available at Ferragudo.

Within Ferragudo, you get around on foot. This neighborhood is really lovely, and safe, with good lighting.

For your convenience, there are several small local stores in Ferragudo. There are frequent bus and water taxis to Portemao the second biggest city in Algarve with extensive shopping possibilities.

Most beaches have restaurants and bars in which to relax and enjoy a refreshing drink when the sun is bearing down, taste the freshest fish in the region or sit to enjoy the sunset, with the sun dipping into the sea.

There are 12 golf courses within 20 km. A car is recommended.

There are all sorts of boat trips available including trips around the coastline and caves, dolphins watching, or even a trip up the river to Silves.
The Slide & Splash and Aqualand water park are just 14 and 19 minutes away by car from the house. They are ideal for cooling off on a hot summer's day with the kids! Or take the Pirate ship from Portemao to visit the caves.

If you prefer, you can take a boat trip to visit beautiful sea caves, discover the Algarve coast and other amazing beaches or even practise a range of water sports.

If you have kids, they will love going to water parks (the closest is Slide & Splash) or visiting Zoomarine, a marine world theme park where you can enjoy dolphin and sea lion presentations and see birds of prey in action, learn about marine ecosystems and even swim with the dolphins.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
If you stay 7 nights or longer, a maid will check up the house mid-week.

The Master bed is 2.85 m wide, the guest room 1,5 m, and the bunk beds are 0,9 m wide.

Any kind of party at the premises will result in a fine of 3.000 EUR, and full compensation for damage and extra cleaning. We have a door camera that registers all guests entering the property.

Abuse use of alcohol or any illegal drugs by the renter or his guests is not allowed and will be reported to the police and result in instant termination of the booking, without any refund.

As required by Portuguese law we need the name, passport number, nationality, and full address of all guests to be provided in writing. If this is not provided within two weeks after the booking, the booking will be canceled without any compensation.

The property is to be examined upon arrival by the guest. Any cleaning issues, damages, or obvious missing items or features are to be reported immediately, latest on the day of check-in

- "We LOVED staying at Per's place during our stay in lovely Ferragudon. We couldn't have asked for a more welcoming host. The location is everything, view from the terrace overlooking the bay is unbeatable. The booklet with all kinds of tips is very detailed (we had dinner at the Indian restaurant recommended at the square nearby and all 4 of us loved it, really good). Nice details like offered beachtowels, blankets for chiller evenings on the terrace etc. Everything is clean, in good condition and we loved the interior and the kids were happy with good wifi;) And last but not least the terrace with stunning view, huge umbrella for a nice shade and the hot tub!
