- "Okay. Last year I was pretty harsh on the Casabela Hotel. But here my partner and I find ourselves back home in the UK after another great holiday in Portugal. We love Portugal… especially Ferragudo. The Casabela Hotels location is amazing. I will say it again, the hotels location is amazing. This is why we love it. The staff are very friendly, helpful and attentive. The rooms are spacious and we always for the Sea View as there is the possibility of Mosquitos so being higher up that’s less likely. The sea view is quite the view first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Now to the buts… but the beds are too hard and you can get a nights sleep in them. But boy they are hard! Something we are willing to put up with. Again, after our stay last year I noted no complimentary Tea or Coffee making facilities and also no mini bar. Something you’d expect from a Four Star Hotel. The breakfast for is okay to good but could be better. Maybe with a breakfast menu with more specialist breakfasts like Eggs Benedict etc. But due to the location we over look these short falls. But… The beds could be better The bathrooms need an overhaul - as they’re pretty dated. The breakfast buffet is okay but could be better. The rooms could do with complimentary Tea and Coffee facilities. The plus points The Hotel is super clean. The bed linen is always clean and fresh The staff are friendly and very helpful. The Algarve is one of Europe's sunniest spots and beautiful weather can be enjoyed throughout the year. In the winter months, when the sun goes down, if the evening is cool, then a nice log fire in the villa makes for a cosy setting. For some clients all that is needed is a low key relaxing holiday, for others the prerequisite will be a private pool and a large safe sandy beach for the children to play on, Ferragudo has something for everyone of all ages.
Ferragudo Village with its elevated structure and whitewashed houses, still provides all that's good about tradition and yet manages to meet the demands of its visitors without disruption. We are pleased to welcome back guests time and again.

Getting to Ferragudo: We have guests who arrive at both Faro Airport, Seville and Lisbon. The villa is about 45 minutes drive from Faro and we can organise for you to be met at the airport if you do not wish to hire a car. Car hire is not essential but collection is easily organised at the airport or can be arranged locally in Ferragudo. Some clients are met at the airport and taken to the villa and then hire a car locally for a few days only, if they wish to get out and about. For clients coming into Lisbon and Seville, the drive is about three hours and motorway most of the way. If you decide to drive, we provide information before you travel on directions to the villa.

Train is an option from Faro to Portimao or Ferrugudo but be aware that whilst the trains are traditional and clean in true Portuguese relaxed and chilled style, they do take a little time to get you to your destination.

There isn't a month that isn't beautiful in this location. In the winter months the bright sunny days are beautiful for long walks or for just sitting around in the village square having coffee and light refreshments. In the early months of the year there are often local festivals and it's a joy to see the local residents and their families enjoying the activity. Visitors are always made to feel welcome.

Golf Courses:
The villa is close to Alamos Golf; Alto, Gramacho Golf; Palmares, Penina, Pinta, Vale De Milho and Vale de Lobo golf resorts. We have clients who return to our villa year after year to play, some of them having other family members who prefer to go to the beach whilst the gofers go off blissfully knowing that they have as long as they need to play a round or two of golf. Some of the go.fing enthusiasts take their partners along with them to the golf resort and surprise their partners with lovely pampering sessions in the resort spa or beauty salon.

Activities for the family: The villa overlooks the beach and is within easy access of water sport facilities, a marina, zoos, marine parks, aqua playgrounds, diving, fishing, sailing, golf and horse riding. The beach is long and wide, the sea on the local beach is usually calm and safe for children to swim unlike some of the smaller beaches which surround the coastline. There are four excellent, family orientated beach cafes/bars offering good refreshments and sun umbrellas and lounge chairs if that is what is wanted. Beach volleyball and kite flying can also be seen frequently at the end of the day when the sun is going down. If one is really lucky, you will see a past Portuguese kite windsurfing champions in action on the Praire Grande beach, (the local beach).

From Ferragudo quayside, a small boat will take you for a few euros across to the Portimao marina where you can enjoy more restaurants, a luxurious beach facility or just a stroll along another beach boardwalk. Great for adults and children.

Not too far from the villa was one of our favorite restaurants, The Piano Garden, with the delightful garden views and delicious curries. The service was outstanding. As for activities, our young kids loved ZooMarine , in particular the dolphin show, where the emphasis was on human/dolphin interaction. We also drove to Silves...an incredible historical town. And we did a day trip to Evora to see the Cromeleque does Almendres, 100 + Standing Stones just outside the city. Wow! At 7000 years old, this magical place inspires the imagination. The Casa das Laranjeiras, completely renovated in 2013, is quietly yet centrally located in the upper area of the beautiful fishing village of Ferragudo. Right on one of the most picturesque streets in Ferragudos. The fishing village is known for its narrow streets, winding stairs and for its originality. In the village there are a number of recommended Portuguese and international restaurants and several small village shops where you can buy everything for everyday life. The lively market square with its many cafes invites you to linger. Everything can be easily reached within 5 minutes on foot. Larger supermarkets and shops for strolling can be reached in Portimao and Lagoa within a 5-10 minute drive. The nearest beach, Praia Grande, which is very suitable for small children, is only a 7-minute walk away. There are also many beautiful beaches in the Felsalgarve that can be reached on foot or after a short drive. Ferragudo is also a good starting point for hikes in the nearby Monchique Mountains, the summit of which extends to 900m.

Ferragudo is a small fishing village in the Algarve situated on the Arade estuary in front of Portimão. Very picturesque, the village is well preserved in its origin and has cafes, ice cream shops, restaurants, banks, post office, pharmacy, tobacco shop and traditional commerce.

Moving from our house towards Ferragudo, you will find Forte de S. João do Arade (Ferragudo Castle)
The Fort of S. João do Arade separates Praia da Angrinha from Praia Grande de Ferragudo (very calm and where the Arade river meets the sea)
Ferragudo Grande Beach is 1000m long, has a blue flag car park, is very quiet and considered one of the best beaches for children in the Algarve. It is guarded by lifeguard with patrol vessel, lookout posts and guarded by the captaincy. With several restaurants and beach cafes, we recommend the "A NAU" Restaurant and Bar and the Kalu Beach Bar. Average water temperature in summer: 22º / Winter: 15º
During summer there is an inflatable park where children can have fun and there are also Kayaks for hire.

Very close but in the opposite direction, about 9km away is also the village of Carvoeiro. With lots of charm and tourism, Carvoeiro is very lively and visited by tourists all year round.

If you like movement and nightlife, head to Praia da Rocha Beach (around 8 km away) where you will find plenty of entertainment, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
