It also lends itself well to socialisation and I think I unexpectedly made the most pals passing through here (and Arthur's Pass). The front desk staff are really nice and are there from 0800-2000hrs. There was no onsite parking (paid) available due to summer high season but plenty of free street parking available. All Haka Houses I've stayed at have the same bunk style with two AU/NZ electrical sockets as well as a USB-A and USB-C port, plus lockable storage that has the same thing inside (bring a decent-sized lock, I had some tiny ones and had to buy a medium one). This is a great idea. You can charge things while you're away and they're locked up, and if you don't have an international adapter you can use cable only. The privacy curtains are a good touch as well. They also have all had the nice enclosed showers with a detachable showerhead. And bath mats! I also think I had my best hostel sleep here, the beds are decently comfy and I got really lucky with roomies - three other women, none of us snored."

While the room was quite small and the bathroom shared (as we'd expected), it was nice and warm, giving us an instant boost on a cold night, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The location couldn't have been better, with a range of decent restaurants within a short walking distance. There was a large kitchen and common room area with free tea, coffee and popcorn, outside there was a hot tub you could use up till 10pm, and the atmosphere overall felt more like we were staying a high-end hotel than somewhere cheap, even though we'd paid just £28 for two people. Come and stay in our brand new north facing modern home located just 5 minutes from the town of Franz Josef within the Franz Alpine Resort. Take in the Glacier Country mountains and view of Lake Mapourika.

The kitchen, dining and lounge area are open plan, sliding doors open to a large deck that runs the length of the house. The kitchen is equipped with the basics tools to prepare meals.

The main bedroom, with ensuite, adjoins the lounge. The other two bedrooms share the other bathroom. All bedrooms have sliding doors onto the deck.

The holiday house caters for a maximum of six guests.

It is heated and cooled with a heat pump and two panel heaters.

Cell phone coverage on the Spark network is limited at the property. Fibre broadband is not expected in Franz Josef until December 2020, connections can be slow.

Guests are able to access the whole property. This is not shared accommodation, it is not a motel/hotel and there is no onsite management. Help or advice on the area is available by phone or email.

Cleaning:
The cleaning fee covers the professionally cleaned linen and routine housekeeping between guests. Please leave the house tidy, place all rubbish in the bins provided. Clean, dry and store all kitchenware you have used and load rinsed dishes into the dishwasher.

Getting around:
Franz Josef has no public transport options around the township. The property is located 5km north in Franz Alpine Resort, your own vehicle is required. There is a carport available for one vehicle, a second can fit on the driveway. There is also parking available on the street next to the property.

The neighbourhood:
The neighbourhood is very peaceful. It is rural surrounded by rainforest clad mountains. Please respect this and keep noise to a minimum.

Our Three Bedroom Detached House is located in a private area, yet only 1 minutes walk from the centre of Franz Josef. The first bedroom offers a King bed, the second bedroom contains a Queen and Two Single beds, the third and smaller bedroom contains a single bed only. All beds are fitted with electric blankets. The house has 1 bathroom with separate toilet and a full kitchen. Free unlimited WIFI and on site parking is provided. The large lounge with heat pump is ideal for a group.
