- "This is a pleasant summertime property relatively close to city center, with on-site car parking. Large living room on one end of building features TV, Wifi, games / books / toys for kids, and a wood stove. Kitchen was very functional and property clean. I would not recommend this property for winter occupancy, however. None of the bedrooms featured heat sources and the inside of the house on arrival felt colder than the outside. Some, but not all, beds feature electric heated blankets, if that is sufficient for you. In the living room, things didn't go better for us. The heat pump never blew anything but cold air. The wood stove looked like a promising but seeing that there was no wood stored nearby, I did not attempt to light it. The owner insists the heat pump works (maybe for him/her, not for us) and that there is fuel to be found for the stove in the shed behind the property. Rooting around in other peoples sheds for fuel is not my idea of a vacation. We left for warmer quarters. I don't doubt that this can be a great spot come summertime, especially if you enjoy lifting a pint or two at the nearby pub. Come wintertime, there are better multi-room options in Hokitika."

Maybe go down to the river to do a spot of fishing or Stroll along the beach track then head to one of Hokitika's many cafes for coffee. Wander around Hokitika's Craft Shops or out to the Hokitika Gorge then to the treetop walkway. Hire a bike and do the Bike Trail. See the Glow worms. Or maybe a game of golf. Or just out to the lakes.
Also a drive to the Franz Josef Glacier which is only one and a half hours drive or up to Punakaiki Pancake Rocks.
Then after a busy day back to the house- relax and on colder days light the fire or

The kids simply popped down the road to get lunch, snacks etc. Cool nights were easily relived by the fireplace, which easily dried washing & the bathroom whilst small was enough for 5 of us. We didn't cook as Hokitika has fabulous places to eat, however the kitchen was easy for breakfast and lunch, thus dishes were easy to keep under control. Beds were comfortable and we didn't need the electric blankets or heaters in the rooms as the fireplace kept the house warm. There are modern and five-star places to stay in Hokitika, with all the mod-cons. This is not one of them. If you are looking for this, as the information says, don't stay here. However - if you are looking for a 100-year-old cottage, that is super comfortable, has history all around it and especially if you plan to read the Luminaries, this is the place for you. We had stayed here before, but first review. It's a great place to stay in Hokitika. You simply hear the sea rolling, there are no parties, like in the motels/hotels & if you can see that this is a comfortable stay in a 100-year-old cottage, crooked mile is the place for you"

Convenience Plus! Cosy, relaxing, self contained, self catering, recently built, with tasteful, modern, minimalist, light and airy decor. The beach is just one house away, the glow worms are almost neighbours (at end of the street), the town centre is only a short walk of about 15 minutes away.

This house receives plenty of sun which is most prized in our climate. Comfy beds and a bath will help you relax and enjoy our part of the world

I loved the brief time I got to spend staying in this house. You may be the same and not want to leave. Beds are made up with fresh, clean, pressed linen before the arrival of each guest.
There is a deck at the rear where you can lie at night to watch the stars, while listening to the waves hit the beach. Our sunsets are fabulous so be sure to be at the beach to catch them. It's fun to start the day with a walk along the beach dodging the waves.
Hokitika has an airport if you wish to fly in. There is a taxi service available, but no town bus service. The town centre is a 15 minute walk away if you go via the street. If you go via the beach and want to enjoy the natural beauty of your surroundings it will likely take longer.
Our neighbourhood is quiet and safe. The beach and the glow worms/bush are almost right next door so be sure to go for a wander and some relaxation. Walk to town to visit cafes, local pounamu (jade) and gold artisans - go via the beach for a coastal experience (you'll be pleased you did). There are cafes/restaurants at the beach or overlooking the beach or drive a few minutes inland to dine with a coastal vista.

Set in rural surroundings just minutes from Hokitika, this early settlers cottage est. 1879 has seen much over its lifetime. Completely refurbished, this 140yr (plus) cottage is three bedrooms. It is full of character and fully self contained.

With a larger than normal master queen bedroom, a second queen bedroom and third double bedroom. There is plenty of space to accommodate up to 6 guests. This lovely cottage is located in the area which was once home to a bustling port following the discovery of gold in the 1860's.

The house has good heating throughout and a full kitchen available. The property is fenced and very private. You will have the sole use of the property while staying and will not need to share it with anyone (apart from your travelling companions).

THE SPACE: Gold Nugget Hut is a gorgeous little space created with all sorts of up-cycled and salvaged pieces we've collected over the years. We've incorporated hardwood power poles, reclaimed wood paneling, antique enamel cookware and collectibles within the site. The hut itself started off life as an industrial office in Greymouth. We relocated it, relined and clad it then added all the special touches. Almost everything is either up-cycled/repurposed and 2nd hand.

* The hut is perfect for a couple, with cosy indoor sleeping and a small seating area. Outside is an outdoor, covered kitchen and seating area - a great way to connect with the stunning Hokitika countryside.

* OUTSIDE, outdoor furniture and a campfire area are the perfect places to take in the farm vibe and stargaze.

* KITCHEN + COOKING: Gold Nugget Hut is self-catering, just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the facilities provided in your covered, outdoor kitchen. You'll find all the basic cooking supplies you'll need. Bring along any of your own essentials as well. A chilly bin is provided to keep food and drinks cool. You can cook on the campfire too, weather permitting.

*POWER: Gold Nugget Hut is completely off-the-grid (No power). There is a small power pack available to charge cell phones and small devices.
The shower is heated via a gas califont and cooking facilities are run via LPG bottles. Lighting runs on solar power.

Bird lovers will delight in the abundance of fantails, tui, kereru, ruru and weka in the bush surrounding the hut.

*There are several short walks through old gold mine workings nearby. It is a short drive to Hokitika Beach, the Hokitika Glow Worm Dell and the Hokitika Gorge. The incredible Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki is approximately 1hr 15mins drive.

* Staying at Gold Nugget Hut is like taking a step back in time. Hokitika was once a bustling gold-mining town, and remnants of the gold workings in the surrounding area, are reminiscent of a time when Blue Spur was populated by thousands of gold prospectors. Gold Nugget Hut is a modern pioneer-style mix.

* The hut is simple, rustic and quintessentially 'West Coast'. It's the perfect place to take time out, rest and soak up the breathtaking scenery of this wonderfully wild part of New Zealand. The hut has solar lighting, is fully insulated and off-grid.
