- "This is a pleasant summertime property relatively close to city center, with on-site car parking. Large living room on one end of building features TV, Wifi, games / books / toys for kids, and a wood stove. Kitchen was very functional and property clean. I would not recommend this property for winter occupancy, however. None of the bedrooms featured heat sources and the inside of the house on arrival felt colder than the outside. Some, but not all, beds feature electric heated blankets, if that is sufficient for you. In the living room, things didn't go better for us. The heat pump never blew anything but cold air. The wood stove looked like a promising but seeing that there was no wood stored nearby, I did not attempt to light it. The owner insists the heat pump works (maybe for him/her, not for us) and that there is fuel to be found for the stove in the shed behind the property. Rooting around in other peoples sheds for fuel is not my idea of a vacation. We left for warmer quarters. I don't doubt that this can be a great spot come summertime, especially if you enjoy lifting a pint or two at the nearby pub. Come wintertime, there are better multi-room options in Hokitika."

Maybe go down to the river to do a spot of fishing or Stroll along the beach track then head to one of Hokitika's many cafes for coffee. Wander around Hokitika's Craft Shops or out to the Hokitika Gorge then to the treetop walkway. Hire a bike and do the Bike Trail. See the Glow worms. Or maybe a game of golf. Or just out to the lakes.
Also a drive to the Franz Josef Glacier which is only one and a half hours drive or up to Punakaiki Pancake Rocks.
Then after a busy day back to the house- relax and on colder days light the fire or
switch on the heat pump.
Maybe head up to Woodstock tavern for that dinner and music. Or into town to Lunch/Dinner at Stumpers Restaurant or the Ocean View Restaurant.

I loved the brief time I got to spend staying in this house. You may be the same and not want to leave. Beds are made up with fresh, clean, pressed linen before the arrival of each guest.
There is a deck at the rear where you can lie at night to watch the stars, while listening to the waves hit the beach. Our sunsets are fabulous so be sure to be at the beach to catch them. It's fun to start the day with a walk along the beach dodging the waves.
Hokitika has an airport if you wish to fly in. There is a taxi service available, but no town bus service. The town centre is a 15 minute walk away if you go via the street. If you go via the beach and want to enjoy the natural beauty of your surroundings it will likely take longer.
Our neighbourhood is quiet and safe. The beach and the glow worms/bush are almost right next door so be sure to go for a wander and some relaxation. Walk to town to visit cafes, local pounamu (jade) and gold artisans - go via the beach for a coastal experience (you'll be pleased you did). There are cafes/restaurants at the beach or overlooking the beach or drive a few minutes inland to dine with a coastal vista.

Set in rural surroundings just minutes from Hokitika, this early settlers cottage est. 1879 has seen much over its lifetime. Completely refurbished, this 140yr (plus) cottage is three bedrooms. It is full of character and fully self contained.

THE SPACE: Gold Nugget Hut is a gorgeous little space created with all sorts of up-cycled and salvaged pieces we've collected over the years. We've incorporated hardwood power poles, reclaimed wood paneling, antique enamel cookware and collectibles within the site. The hut itself started off life as an industrial office in Greymouth. We relocated it, relined and clad it then added all the special touches. Almost everything is either up-cycled/repurposed and 2nd hand.

* The hut is perfect for a couple, with cosy indoor sleeping and a small seating area. Outside is an outdoor, covered kitchen and seating area - a great way to connect with the stunning Hokitika countryside.

* OUTSIDE, outdoor furniture and a campfire area are the perfect places to take in the farm vibe and stargaze.

* KITCHEN + COOKING: Gold Nugget Hut is self-catering, just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the facilities provided in your covered, outdoor kitchen. You'll find all the basic cooking supplies you'll need. Bring along any of your own essentials as well. A chilly bin is provided to keep food and drinks cool. You can cook on the campfire too, weather permitting.

*POWER: Gold Nugget Hut is completely off-the-grid (No power). There is a small power pack available to charge cell phones and small devices.

Rimu View 3 by Tiny Away sits in the small town of Ruatapu in the Westland District, perfectly situated in one of the finest tiny homes in New Zealand's South Island, with covered patios and decks and amazing views. This retreat allows you to enjoy slow-paced rural life, where you can fire up the BBQ or light the cozy garden fire to enjoy a relaxing getaway.

Hokitika Gorge, Stumpers Bar & Cafe, and Hokitika Beach are just a few of the nearby attractions in the area. A comfortable 139-square-foot tiny home with easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities, including an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste-holding tank, hand basin, and shower (gas heated for hot showers).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please advise that we have two more tiny houses called "Rimu View 1 and 2". If you want to book in groups, please contact your land host 24 hrs in advance to make arrangements.

As an added note, Rimu View 1, 2, and 3 have separate parking spaces that are conveniently marked with signage for easy navigation.

The unit is fully self contained with it's own entrance and great rural views. The Royal Mail Hotel (Woodstock Hotel) is only 3km away and serves great pub food as well as their own craft beer in a historic pub with a lively atmosphere and views of the river. Town is 10 minutes drive away with a selection of good dining options, takeaways, bars and a supermarket.

The unit is spacious and has recently been refurbished including a new bathroom. It has a queen size bed with a single available on request. Our modern 3 bed house is newly renovated, and a 5 minute walk to the centre of Hokitika where you can find all sorts of treasures, from a range of great cafes and Restaurants, to Pounamu (Greenstone or Jade), a movie theatre, and a range of very stylish shops, with everything from clothes, jewellery, souvenirs, flowers, and hardware. If you walk through town you can stroll right onto the beach, where you can sometimes spot seals, little blue penguins and other wildlife.

The house has just undergone a major renovation which has made it into a Stylish modern 3 bed home.
There are 3 large double bedrooms with comfy queen size beds. The good size open plan Kitchen/dining area is fully equipped for you to entertain in. The modern lounge has 3 sofas, a Tv, including Sky, a dvd player and ultra fast fibre wifi. A collection of dvds, books and games are available for your use. The new bathroom has a good size shower, wash basin and toilet, there is also a second separate toilet. There is a washing machine for your use, and an outside washing line. Your space is a cabin in our backyard, located between our house and the beach. The cabin has a queen bed, stereo, kettle, tea/coffee, fridge with small freezer, veranda with outside dining area. The bathroom is a few steps from the cabin, it is located on the veranda/porch of the main house.

Guests use bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) located on veranda/porch of main house (bathroom is shared with guests in other cabin). Guest also have access to backyard including picnic tables, swing, and seats with beach views as well as beach access (this is shared with other cabin guests as well as our young family).

Our house in at the final stage of a major renovation. We are still working on finishing touches, specifically the street side of the house. We also rent out another cabin called Sunset Cabin. The two cabin are within 10 metre of each other. We have chickens.

We truely love our home and we hope you love it too, please respect our neighbours and also our place by leaving it respectfully clean for our cleaner. With being rural our wifi is very limited and not available for smart tv use, along with the rural vibe the water pressure is on the lower side but does not effect your stay . I managed to raise 4 children in these rural feel.

Our "cool little" cabin is a very small, detached, cozy, private bedroom looking out towards the rugged Tasman Sea. You will enjoy your own private space, comfortable queen bed, beautiful sunsets, beach access, free parking and the convenience of a 3 min beach walk to Hokitika town centre. Bathroom facilities are detached from cabin and shared with the guests in our other cabin. Our place is perfect for couples and solo adventurers.

Our home is unique in that we have solar power for hot water and in winter multi-fuel burner for heating and hot water. We have tank water and a waste water system that feeds the orchard. We are off the grid as much as possible.

You are encouraged to join us in the lounge and talk with us. We enjoy speaking with all our guests about their travels of where they have been and where they are going and we try to give as much information without overloading you about what is available to be seen around here as well as when you leave. BBQ area is open for you to use or if you want to join us for a BBQ, just bring some meat and some salad etc. Please note: pre-booking for the BBQ required when you book. Access to all areas of the property apart from Den's workshop (unless invited).

During your stay
We are on site and will be greeting you after you have settled in with a cuppa and bite to eat and a chance to chat with us.
Where to go for a walk or just find somewhere to eat at night we are always able to help you.
Don't forget, we have local knowledge and can direct you to lots of places that may not be on the maps.
When you go out for an evening meal the lights will be on the decks for your return. More than likely we will be up as well and if you wish to join us for a drink then we are only to happy to talk with you about your trip and where you have been or where you are going.
Since we have been to most places in New Zealand and the South Island we can help you with things to see and do outside the usual tourist destinations that are gems for your discovery.

Other things to note
We have our special dog, Boz the Border Collie just loves to meet and greet people. If you just need a happy face to see at the end of the day he is more than happy to oblige. If you like dogs then you are most welcome to interact with Boz.

All outside areas are accessible. We have a new Asian inspired gazebo for your use as a relaxing meditation area with yoga mat for you to enjoy and commune with nature. The only area off limits is Den's workshop unless invited.

During your stay
We are on site and will be greeting our guests on arrival with Boz, Border Collie. Once you have settled in, come and join us for a cuppa or talk.
We are always available for you to ask any questions about our area or where to go for a drink or eat out or if you just want to relax and enjoy the bird song at the end of the day.
Everyone is welcome to join us in our lounge, no need to stay in your room. More than once or twice we have enjoyed a wine or two with our guests.

Other things to note
Lots of walking trails around and the beautiful Hokitika Gorge and lakes around the area for boating, fishing or relaxing.
To all photographers, there are some magnificent photo opportunites around for your pleasure.
Lots of outdoor activities to do including walking, biking, sailing, fishing and kayaking on Lake Mahinapua or Lake Kaniere.
Star gazers, this is one of the best night skys to see on the West Coast.

A beachfront studio unit sleeping 5 on the same large rural beachfront property as Penguins Retreat and Whitebait Cottage.
The sleeping area of the large unit is divided into two so that the queen bed and the second area with another queen bed and single bed have visual privacy but the wall does not go to the ceiling
We do not live on the property so this place suits independent travellers who have a car, wanting to spend time on a west coast beach.
Only 3 minutes drive to Hokitika township.

The space
Absolute beachfront semi-detached studio unit has beach views .
It is only 3 kms from Hokitika township and in a central position for day trips to Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, Lakes, Hokitika Gorge, Tree Top Walkway, Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. Hokitika is the jade capital of NZ so there are jade shops along with nice cafes in town.
It sleeps five over two queen beds and a single bed.
There is an outdoor bath, lots of firewood on the beach to make an outdoor fire, abundant birdlife.

The laundry is shared with guests from Penguins Retreat and Whitebait Cottage.

Other things to note
Oceanside was built many years ago right on the beach. You cannot build this close to the beach any longer. The buildings are rustic but well maintained. The floors are hard as we are pet friendly and need to control the sand coming in from the beach.

It is thoroughly cleaned after each guest but some people think that because it is old, it is dirty. It is not

If you are looking for a five star pristine hotel style accommodation, Oceanside is not for you.
