- "We rented this place because of the pool and that it was in the country but close to a town. We arrived the first Sunday of Spring Break at around 5:00 the property was in no condition to have guest. There was a foot of water in the pool. The yard had not been maintained. Most properties that I have rented have swept the side walks, picked up trash, power washed. This was not the case and left me to find a place for my family to go during spring break. It was very disappointing .The owner said he could not get in touch with me but I received emails about checking in and how to use the pool."

- "This place was so beautiful. My two teenage daughters and I spent the weekend in the smallest casa. It was plenty of room for us. We had the huge pool all to our selves the whole weekend. The owners are precious and give you plenty of privacy. (They were so lovely we wouldn't have mind if they hung around). The best part is that your are six minutes from Walmart yet, the property makes you feel as though you have just been transported to another country. Your rustic loft sits next to the main house of this historic property. This little pocket of paradise is nestled right on the outskirts of NW San Antonio and was home to the famous landscape artist Robert Wood back in the 1930's and 40’s.

THE SPACE

This historic rock cottage is a loft style with an upstairs bedroom furnished with a comfortable King bed, a nostalgic tin roof ceiling and lots of windows. (This is the actual room the famous British landscape painter, Robert Wood, used as his art studio.) Downstairs are an updated kitchen with granite countertops, a renovated bathroom with walk-in shower and an inviting living room with French doors that open to the rock courtyard. This cottage also has high-speed wireless internet access as well as a flat screen Smart TV & cable programming.

You will have access to a furnished outdoor rock courtyard with a waterfall fountain, or you can just sit around the fire pit during cool evenings. Family Home Reclaimed; Now Shared with Others: In 1913, my great-grandfather, Erich Menger, and his brother Rudolph, purchased 560 acres in the hill country. In 1922, Erich and his wife, Lydia, bought Rudolph’s share and built a charming rock cottage. My great-grandparents raised registered Angora goats, cattle and sheep, and ran a dairy. Together, they spent nearly 30 years at the ranch. During my childhood, our family harvested our Christmas trees there, camped, hunted and gathered for picnics with extended family at the ranch. We swam in the cistern full of fresh rainwater or we rode on the tailgate down to the pool made by a dam in the Helotes Creek. But in 1973, our family sold the property. I vowed that someday I would buy the ranch back. In December 2000, we closed on these seven acres with the original ranch house, Carriage House and tiny Lodge.

Hospitality a Menger-Klar Family Tradition: For more than 100 years, my family has been known in San Antonio for their hospitality and generosity. One ancestor, Rudolph Menger and his wife, Babette, along with his in-laws, William Menger (a different line of the Menger family) operated the famous Menger Hotel. My great-grandfather, Emil Klar, was a butcher who specialized in home-killed meats and “the sausage with a flavor.” Opi, as he was known in the German tradition, gave meat to hungry neighbors during the Great Depression until he could no longer run his business. My grandfather, Roland Klar, along with my grandmother, Floy (nee Menger) Klar, brewed homemade beer to share with their salon of many friends. Today, my cousin Erich Menger is one of the most sought-after caterers in town. Now my husband and I continue that tradition of hospitality with vacation rentals of our historic family properties known as the Menger Cottages. Willkommen!

It is cozy, but if you don’t mind the outdoors the patio is a nice addition for relaxation. Even with temperatures of 100* that day we were comfortable under the covering of the patio. The pool does not disappoint at all! We spent most of one day outside in the pool & on the patio. We also grilled fajitas on the pit. Don’t let the space being on the hosts property deter you for privacy reasons. We stayed 2 nights & never even saw the owners. The host did offer to come help us if we needed upon check in but everything went smoothly. 10/10 would stay here again!!"

You are just 30 minutes drive from the charming town of Bandera and 15 to SeaWorld and Fiesta TX.

-Old Town Helotes, Flores Country Store, and numerous wedding venues are minutes away.
-Has direct routes to places like Boerne, Bandera, and other hill country locations, yet you have all the suburban amenities (restaurants, HEB, Costco, retail stores, etc…) minutes away, and all urban attractions, such as the Riverwalk and the Airport, within 30 minutes.

We welcome small intimate gatherings - The Evelyn Rose has been the site of many baby showers, wedding showers, girls weekends, small graduation parties, one wedding rehearsal, and we even had a guest propose to his girlfriend! By his account it was a perfect venue for the occasion, and she said "yes"!

We have also hosted a corporate strategy retreat, and have been the site for two on-scene locations for a TV commercial production and a corporate training video series. Either way, as you can see from our reviews here and on other booking platforms, we care deeply for our guests, and the property.

-The Evelyn Rose is not part of a subdivision
-Helotes River runs along the eastern border of the property (it’s called a river but it is actually a creek)
-Entire property is fenced or walled in
-Outdoor stone pavilion for your use
-Gorgeous up-lighting throughout, has the ultimate night-scene ambiance

Guests have access to the entire property within the fencing/walls with exception of a closet for additional supplies inside the house. The north field is off limits to foot traffic and vehicles. We are returning that field back to nature to help boost our local ecosystem.

Some Additional Notes:
-The property and house are not 100% child-proof but we did strive to make it kid friendly. The creekside is fully fenced and locked, and the inside of the house has safety locks on some of the drawers and cabinets. We have one high chair, child utensils and place settings too.

We can’t wait to have you at the Evelyn Rose to relax and unwind, or focus and concentrate, or gather and celebrate! Do this all away from any hustle and bustle. We are confident the minute you step out out of your car and walk back, see the back yard area, and enter the home, you are coming to a house that has been designed with you in mind, to provide you and your group the best stay possible. ꕤ

- "I had the privilege of staying at the Helotes Treehouse. The online pictures are exactly what you will see when staying here, but there is so much more. First it’s private, secluded and quit. But you’re not even 2 miles from Helote’s sprawling urban amenities. HEB, Walmart, Target, Whataburger and many more places are less than 5 minutes away from this location. this was great for us, as we had multiple needs for our Thanksgiving feast. The basement provides outside access and a great bathroom space. It was great for our teens. The first floor is spacious with a table in the dining room and kitchen along with a nice sized island in the kitchen. When we arrived this place was very clean. We loved the towels so much that we ordered our own and had them delivered to our home in Michigan while we were at the treehouse. If you like hiking, go walk around in the back of the property. It’s on almost 5 acres. This place was amazing and would easily be my first choice on our next trip to the San Antonio area. "

The whole group will enjoy Texas Hill Country Views with a luxury swimming pool and private entry. Covered patio with outdoor furniture minutes from La Cantera, The Rim, & Fiesta Texas. Sea World & Downtown San Antonio only a 20-25 minute drive. Various deer & wildlife can be seen beyond the property fence on occasion. Private property is on 1/2 acre. You’ll enjoy plenty of space on this private property with beautiful sunsets close to all the attractions San Antonio has to offer. We’re not in a neighborhood where you’d have to worry about parking. The views here are absolutely beautiful! You’ll have access to our private entry. The door to the home will have a keypad for unlocking. The master bedroom has its own door for you to step out of an enjoy the beautiful Texas hill country sunsets and fresh air. Don’t be surprised if you see whitetail deer in the hollow below the house. We’re here to help guest navigate everything San Antonio and surrounding areas have to offer. We can offer suggestions on places to eat, entertain, hike, bike, etc. We are not within a neighborhood. We are a private location with easy access off Scenic Loop Rd and beautiful hill country views. You will have the house, land and pool to yourself. Our private entry allows access to the property with plenty parking for up to 5 vehicles. In addition to all the close amenities listed above Fredericksburg is a beautiful hill country drive only 45 minutes away. New Braunfels is 35 minutes. Boerne is 12 minutes and Comfort is 25. HEB & Walmart are 7 minutes. San Antonio International Airport is only a 25 minute drive. Downtown is 20 minutes. We don’t allow parties on the property. We will consider exceptions on a case by case basis. If approved we will communicate approval through the Airbnb messaging app.
