And most importantly, no queues for the ski lifts! Leysin is a nice enough skiing village. It doesn't have the charm of some of the more popular resorts, but it does offer a good price for Switzerland, has decent facilities for beginners and has nice scenic runs when you head on the pistes further east of the char lift. The view from the restaurant "Le Kuklos" is also stunning. In mid March the apres-ski atmosphere is quite lacking. The bars were generally empty. But the restaurants and bars up amongst the runs had a good atmosphere. One thing to keep in mind. Leysin is a village set on a steep hill. Although the village centre looks very close on a map, there's a significant altitude difference. Getting up from the village to the Residence Chamoissaire is up a set of stairs with a seemingly endless number of steps (think a good 20-30 stories high). After our first experience we decided to time our visits to the village with the free shuttle bus timetable. I loved that special kit storage area at the ski lifts was provided. The 10 minute walk to the ski lifts might not be a big deal for the downhill walk when you're setting off, but a welcome relief when you don't have to walk uphill after a day skiing"

- "This is a large well equipped chalet in a great location for the skiing. Bedding was provided for the number of people in our party which enabled us to pick the bedrooms we wanted. There is a good size kitchen and we were able to cook in on several evenings (once we worked out how to use the oven). It is a short walk (less than 5 minutes including steps) to the main lifts. The town center is 10 minutes away (uphill on the way back) and there is a decent supermarket 5 minutes walk away. Chalet Roundhouse is a traditional Swiss chalet in Leysin which has five bedrooms, each with its own shower and toilet, three are en-suite and the master bedroom also has a large bathroom with shower. Skiing & Snowboarding: The seven resorts of Leysin, Villars, Gryon, Les Diablerets, Les Mosses, Rougemont and Chateau-d'Oex make up the spectacular skiing area of Alpes Vaudoise, the skipass covers all resorts and is even free to under 9s. With 74 lifts and 220km of downhill pistes (135 miles) this must be one of the 'prized areas' for skiers visiting Switzerland. The region is just 115km from Geneva and can be reached in nine hours or less on mainly motorways from Calais. The Bern-Lausanne-Geneva motorway goes right past the 'gateway town' of Aigle and from here you turn off to Leysin or to Villars via Ollon.

- "We had never heard of Leysin but wanted a chalet with atleast 3 bathrooms and regular sized beds. The pictures looked amazing and we decided to go ahead. The instructions to get to the place, to get the key, the folders with all the brochures of the equipment and things to do in the area were so comprehensive, we felt right at home. Equipped with all the conveniences you need and then some, chalet Roundhouse was a delight to stay in. We canceled 3 of our excursions just to spend more time together in the house, on the deck, cooking together and playing board games. Everything was spotlessly clean and in it's right place so was easy to find. I happened to mention to my host that we were missing having a toaster and she had it dropped off through a friend. Now that's showing an extra level of care I was not expecting. Having Hefti sports and the cable car just a stones throw away from the chalet meant that we were in the heart of the action, even though it felt as if we were in a remote place. Couldn't ask for a better location. Thanks Mary and Steve for amazing holiday. It was my mother's 75th birthday and she is totally thrilled. Leysin was a discovery. - "Perfect for a family skiing stay" - "The appartment offers ski in ski out via a beginners slope and his very conveniently situated for the gondola station and the town centre. It has a car park right outside the front door which is also very convenient. The rooms are very simple but functional. The wallpaper is from another area and at places starting to come off the wall but we could see some charme in flowers on walls and ceilings so didn’t mind that. Two of the bedrooms only have beds, wardrobe and stool with the wardrobes being partially filled with extra blankets leaving little space for clothes and personal things.
