- "I knew I wanted to snowboard at Lotte Arai Resort but I read that it was in a very small town and basically only the resort buildings so i picked this spot because they offered a free shuttle to the nearby mountains. (Not Lotte though its a 40 minute drive and I had to get a separate bus. It was very easy though and the owner was able to help me figure it all out. If you do that route bring cash, it costs 2,000 jpy one way). When I arrived from Tokyo it was a complete 360 in scenery. It was snowing, quiet, calm, almost deserted like feeling but so quaint. The property was really so amazing and felt like a traditional home/experience from the interior, the traditional breakfast they served, the tatami rooms with the floor beds and hot water for tea 24/7. And of course the onsen on site. They also provide robes and directions how to use the onsen. I have tattoo's and wasn't sure I would be able to have the experience and I'm so glad I stayed at the Kofuan because I was able to go 24/7 super early in the morning or late evening to avoid people out of respect. The area around Myoko Kogen is very remote though, not many restaurants, and the 7/11 in town is a short mile away. I would definitely come back here. I didn't mind not being near a lot of food because you can buy breakfast and dinner at the property plus there was a cute local grocery store across the street I was able to try new snacks and yummy fruits at."

The owners were very nice and I think this place would be fine in summer, but my stay in winter was very cold. " - "The owner was nice, however, the room had ants. My friend had to get a vacuum to try to pick up the ants, but we knew only more would keep coming from the walls. So first, we shouldn't have to vacuum ourselves. So we decided to get a refund and find another hotel, but we were told no refund, so we got another room. When we woke up, more ants all along one side of the wall. Second, no trashcan in the rooms and no soap/towels in our first room that had a bathroom; that's gross. We also had to pay 100 yen per towel; this is at a hotel, unacceptable. The website should basically say, a room with no amenities, not even a trash can. Like I said, the owner was nice, but he needs to get an exterminator and cleanse the house of ants. I won't stay there again."

The actual rooms are smaller & have green tatami. No floor chairs as pictured but you get cushions. Maybe they have halved the room size over the years to make more rooms? The rooms weren’t bad, I still would have booked it but they just weren’t as pictured. No tea or hot water in your room but there was tea & hot water dispensers on each floor, but the tea was either really weak, didnt work properly or needed to be refilled as it was just hot water with a couple of tea leaves in the bottom. We did try both floors dispensers. It wasnt fixed the 6 days we stayed. Onsen is closed between 9-3pm for cleaning & the heaters in the rooms don’t work between those times. There’s no elevator so if you have heavy big luggage & can’t carry it yourself ask for a lower room. The hotel has everything you need though! Miwa san dealt with foreign guests & she is lovely. Explained about resorts & busses and gave us discount coupons &maps for the resorts we wanted to go to. Theres a folder with info in the room about attractions& all the bus times. There’s a drying room with locks for your ski & snowboard. It’s great location in the middle of the street with all the restaurants& shops around. You can easily walk to the bus and down to Akakura onsen resort. The indoor onsen uses natural water you can see the minerals floating and don’t get too hot with the windows next to it. There is yukata, rooms are warm, coin laundry and free massage chair."

Easy walking distance to Akakura Kanko ski resort, on the way home you can cut through the carpark just after the bridge and ski down the hill to the back of the hotel (probably wouldn't try skiing across the creek though even if it looks like its frozen solid, we saw a massive hole open up and the water was deep and flowing quickly underneath). The hotel offers breakfast for about 1000yen there are next to no breakfast options around the hotel or at the ski resorts so this was a good option."

- "Overview: traditional Japanese hotel, tatami room, came with Japanese deserts and chopsticks and tea setup, also towels and yukatas were all clean. Tatami room where you need to make your own futon/bed. Pillows were also Japanese style, think full of small beads instead of feathers. So I advice to bring your own pillows. Free wifi Parking, small parking area, make sure to email the hotel manager Soichiro-San to coordinate parking spot the day prior if you are driving. Location, less than 10 minute drive from myokosuginohara, Akakura Kanko, Akakura onsen. Breakfast, the free breakfast was delicious. Japanese style. We stayed here for three nights and had three free breakfast served at 8am sharp. Toilets, all toilet facilities are updated and western style. Very clean, wife and I have stayed in many Japanese hotel and budget accommodation, this place had the best toilet rooms. Trust me this is important. English language, Soichiro-San has good English, just be patient everything will be okay. The staff, not so much so good luck. But the lady who serves breakfast and dinner was always nice. Talked to us in Japanese most of it we didn't understand. Remember "Wakarimasen Gomene " "I don't understand, I'm sorry." Free shuttle to any of the mt myoko ski areas. The ski areas open at 8am, breakfast is served at 8am. You see, you will miss some early bird ski time but for us the whole day of snowboarding was enough. The entire hotel is non-smoking. "

- "It’s just beautiful. They have a shuttle to the ski areas that aren’t walkable. Free shuttle from and to the train station. They were very friendly and helped me set up my luggage transportation to the next ski location. " - "Overall very nice accommodation and the shuttle driver was very nice. The day of my arrival I was still trying to figure out how to actually get to and check into the property since no instructions were provided. I had to try to contact them multiple times and also had to reach out to hotels.com multiple times. I’ve been to Japan to snowboard before, I don’t need my hand held. However, traveling internationally is stressful enough and I want to know when I arrive at my destination that I’ll be able to get into the accommodation that I paid for and relax. Not walk around with a bunch of luggage/gear, hoping that I can get in at some point. In the end, I was able to access the accommodation without issue but again, communication is not that hard. All I needed was a message explaining the procedure and how to access the accommodation and I didn’t get that info until just before arriving. "
