- "Quaint ryokan. Spacious family tatami room for 4. 2 raised sleeping areas. Bathroom has 2 sinks which was really convenient. At first I was worried about noise as the room is right next to reception but there was an inner door so we didn’t hear anything at all. Breakfast was delicious and sufficient with mainly fish and vegetables. Tables were pre-assigned and were already set whenever we arrive in the morning; so we got seated right away and the food were quickly brought out. Staff uncles and aunties at reception and dining room were friendly and helpful. Parking spaces very limited but we were directed to park at the lot right beside the hotel and it cost the same. A few minutes walk to the youme mall which is open till quite late. There is a laundry room for which you pay a small fee per stay to use. We enjoyed our stay. "

We booked Japanese kaiseki-dinner as extra, breakfast was included already into our booking. The food is absolutely divine at this property - Hats off to the chef! The dinner and breakfast was well-presented by attentive and courteous staff which made the stay very enjoyable. Thing to note of this property is that it is located in the mountains so there isn't much to do other than hot springs and a little walk around their courtyard. But it was perfect for us to have this quiet down-time during our travels. "

We could go in for a dip whenever we felt like it. The shower is on the outside with the open bath and the coldness of the weather wasn’t a problem for us since the water of the shower was quite warm and you jump into the onsen right after… (I see lots of comments complaining about that). Dinner/breakfast service time and shuttle bus leaving time was chosen at checkin, we could choose between the times that were convenient for us. The dinner and breakfast were not true kaiseki but it was still delicious and fulfilling. We also brought some pudding from downtown before going to our ryokan and I definitely recommend doing that as there’s no dessert component in the dinner kaiseki. This is not our first ryokan and having an open air bath definitely made the experience 10000 times better!!! We will definitely choose the same room again if we’re coming back to yufuin!! "

We loved the in-room bathtub and the onsen water that filled it - we certainly made good use of it during our stay. Staff: The hotel staff were kind, patient, attentive and knowledgable. When we arrived, our (heavy!) luggage bag was taken to our room. During breakfast and dinner, the staff were so kind to ask about our itinerary and make suggestions. They also remembered what we told them from the previous day! Gestures like these may be simple to some, but it made our stay personal. Food: Last but not least, the food. Everything was incredible. We were served with local produce, which was always well prepared. The quality, the variety, the flavour, the presentation was just exquisite. In addition to offering pick-ups and lifts to the bus terminal, the owners offered to take me on a ride to Beppu and we did a hot sand bath together on my last day of the stay considering that it rained all four days while I was there.
