It is well maintained and clean. The old lady keeper and the old man at front desk do not really speak English but they are very friendly and tried the best to provide good service. From the welcome traditional green tea and cake, and escort us to our rooms and explanation of the facilities, we felt very welcomed. The onsen is small as other comments have stated, but there is everything you need being supplied, it is clean, tidy and well maintained! The Japanese dinner was amazingly tasty and beautiful (which is out of our expectations due to some of the negative comments read). With many small dishes cooked and served immediately, we were so full and enjoyed the night. The breakfast was also in Japanese style, it was simple but still beautifully arranged and really tasty. We would like to thanks to the two lady staff who served us all the way. Will surely recommend this traditional Japanese Ryokan to everyone if you visit Onomichi."

Smallish rooms all three of ours had steps right at the entranceway which made it awkward for luggage. That said I noticed most of the other rooms did not appear to have this.
