Ocean View beach is one of Dunedin's best kept secrets. We lived in Dunedin for 14 years before we discovered it in 2004 and we've lived here ever since. Seven kilometres of beautiful white sand just 15 minutes drive from the centre of Dunedin. The weather is usually better than in the city with average temperature about 2 degrees warmer. The beach is often fairly deserted so don't be surprised if you're the only human in sight. If you're lucky, you might get to meet some other visitors as we often see sea lions on the beach and fur seals and penguins on the rocks near Brighton.

- There is a step up to the shower
- Whilst well equipped, the kitchenette is better geared towards basic meals (as there is not a full sized oven etc)
- We can accommodate up to six guests, but the unit is compact and the single beds in the third room may be less comfortable for "larger" adults!

Notice for larger groups, or winter guests... we have in the past had power overloads if too many appliances are running at the same time. Please be mindful of this, particularly when using the laundry facilities. If this does occur, the trip switch is up at the main house and we have an alarm system which will alert us to flick this back on for you.

There's a great heat pump to warm everything quickly. There were 2 queensize beds and 2 single beds. There was extra bedding in the cupboards and a portacot which we didn't need to use. The only downside would be the driveway down to the house. We needed to reverse down so we could get out easily. We loved it. Perfect if your partner snores and you need an extra room!!"

You can enjoy a coffee or breakfast from the cafe or an ice-cream from the convenience store. Brighton hosts a surf club where you can enjoy swimming in the beach in a safely patrolled area. In nearby Green Island (8 min drive), you'll find a Fresh-Choice supermarket, petrol stations, cafes, health services and various other amenities including some great Chinese takeaways.

At the end of the street is a bus stop, making it handy to get buses into Dunedin City

It is banked by gorgeous native grass covered sand dunes and looks as long as the eye can see and more. The safer Brighton beach offers volunteer surf lifesaving patrollers from early November until late March annually and is a great beach to take the kids as it has a shallow, slow flowing estuary for the very young child to enjoy.

Totally self-contained and attached to the hosts property but completely private with independent access. There is one step down from entry way into living room, and this will be marked clearly. Also, there is a steep outdoor wooden stairway from the laundry to the basement door, however it has a hand rail and the steps are painted, in reasonable condition and free of moss or other slippery things.Nighttime visits to the bathroom require a trip down the stairs as the four bedrooms are located upstairs, however a sofabed in the library is on the downstairs level.Please note a bond may be charged at certain times of the year. Being unfamiliar with what is meant in NZ by “backyard sleep-out”, I was not expecting to need to go into the main house for a shower, to have no hot water, or to have no running water in the kitchenette. When it came time for us to leave at the end of our stay, we felt like part of the family because of the shared facilities, and a solution to our error regarding the dates of our stay."

This 'tiny' home is set in our beach garden and a 2 minute stroll down the access track will take you onto a stunning beach. Listen to the crashing waves at night and see the beautiful sunrises from the top of our track or from the beach.
The studio is very comfortable, warm and is ideal for a 1 night getaway. There are limited kitchen facilities ( jug, toaster, microwave, bar fridge). There is no inside kitchen sink due to Council Regulations but there is an outside tub on the beachside of the studio for washing dishes. A 7 minute drive takes you to Green Island where you will find Fresh Choice supermarket, McDonald's, Biggies Pizza and several takeaway shops.
Popular Brighton Beach and Cafe is a 5 minute drive away; the CBD and Dunedin airport both a 20 minute drive.
