Moeraki is 25 minutes away. Visit Fleurs Seafood Restaurant. Beautiful food!! A lovely walk from the lighthouse to see lots of seals and if you are lucky penguins.

Hidden away in a quiet part of the coastal village of Kakanui our bach is the perfect spot for small families or couples alike.

The Hideaway provides a clean and comfortable place to enjoy your Kakanui holiday, we hope you'll enjoy our wee bach as much as we do. The garden and house is child friendly and we have provided some toys and games for the kids to enjoy! There are 2 bedrooms one with a queen size bed and the other has bunks, we can also provide and camp stretcher for an extra $20 per night.

Warm and cosy, the heat pump provides quick, clean and efficient heating for the whole bach and there is an electric blanket on the queen bed and wheat bags/hot water bottles are provided for the bunks. We now have gas hot water - no waiting for the boiler to heat up!!

The drive provides off road parking with enough room for 2 vehicles.

There is a wonderful outdoors area which gets all day sun when you want to sit and relax, the garden is fully fenced and there is a BBQ for you to fire up and enjoy, help yourself to some herbs out of the herb garden and create something delicious! Or head into Oamaru (10 min coastal drive) for a choice of great cafes and restaurants. Head north to check out the award winning Riverstone or south to Moeraki and visit Fleur's Place. In fact you don't have to go very far at all as Kakanui has a fabulous cafe of its own, Coast serves some of the best fish and chips around, eat in or takeaway.

In a few minutes you can be strolling along the gorgeous Campbells Bay, swimming, fishing, surfing, whitebaiting or checking out the rock pools. Playing tennis, spotting penguins, seals and even the occasional dolphin, building sandcastles or playing a round of golf!

Stunning expansive sea views!! House looks down on the fishing boats unloading. Wonderful relaxing and spacious 'feel' to this holiday house. Feedback from all who have stayed has been very positive. The house is spacious and well appointed with all the essentials provided - all linen. Everything is within walking distance with a short drive to the Lighthouse with fabulous wildlife, on a recent trip we saw yellow eyed penguins and many sea lions, its just stunning and reasonably rare I would think to see so much so handy. A short walk from the house is a gorgeous beach The Little Kaik - along road beside the Marae. Not a swimming beach but fun for fossicking, sometimes seals sun themselves there. Sadly Fleurs Restaurant is closed, however the Fisherman’s Wife on the foreshore (not always open) along with the Moeraki Tavern provide great food. There is a supermarket and take-aways a few minutes north on the main road at Hampden. Check re parking with your boat as there isn't a lot of turning space, would depend on size. There are books and toys for children. Recharge your batteries, laze on the sofas or deck with a stack of books and magazines. The conservatory is great to enjoy the action and views especially if the weather turns cold.
Children will love the rock pools out from the Community Hall or gather some mussels! Escape the cares of the world and book for a group of friends, family or a quiet get-away for two. Take time out and recharge!

It is very important there is close supervision with small children in that the front of the house is an unknown area to us, it will fall away quickly with a lot of greenery and the ground might crumble away. We have had a lot of children staying and it hasn't been an issue as there is plenty of area for playing.

It was a comfortable stay altho the house could do with some minor maintenance (cupboard doors not closing, lounge fold out bed broken etc). Kakanui is about 15 minutes from Oamaru along a very scenic coastal road.

There is a corner store with some takeaway food and a bottle store. Brydone wholefoods is only 5 minutes away with a nice selection of produce. There are supermarkets and many great restaurants 15 minutes away in Oamaru. You also have one of the very best restaurants within half an hour - Riverstone Kitchen just north of Oamaru.
There is a well equipped kitchen if you want to eat in. We recommend the farmers market in Oamaru if you’re here on a Sunday.

The house is absolutely quiet just a few steps from the beach. The view of the sea through the large panoramic windows is gigantic. Everything is perfectly clean and furnished in a perfection as we have never experienced before. Liz's description doesn't come close to that. We offer you a spacious, warm modern house with a beautiful interior and luxurious bathrooms. It’s a short 3 min walk to the golden sandy beach and surfers break at Campbell’s Bay. Or just step onto the South facing deck and relax on the outdoor seating (beautiful blankets provided to snuggle under) and look out to Campbell’s Bay, All Day Bay, Moeraki and the South Pacific Ocean beyond. Crossroads surf break is a short drive out towards Oamaru.

From sunrise to sunset the living area in Horizon House is flooded with natural light. Open the sliding doors in the main living area to the East for the beautiful sun rises or open them up to the South for the afternoon sun and sunset over the Kakanui Ranges. There are two spacious living areas on the first floor along with a fantastic modern hosting kitchen, coffee machine, hot chocolate maker (Winter only), large cold water and ice dispensing fridge, contemporary dining area and 1 of the 3 bathrooms. Here you’ll find bath salts, essential oils and big white fluffy towels. Keeping you warm up here is the sun shining through the floor to ceiling ranch sliders, thenwood burner (wood provided) and a heat pump. The first aid kit is located in the under bench cupboard closest to the oven. The fire extinguisher is located under the sink. Also available for beach excursions or day trips - a cool bag with small flask, lunchbox and snack boxes.

Downstairs the hallway leads to the 2 en-suite bedrooms which are the same size and layout and are heated by contemporary wall hung column radiators. Both have King sized beds made up with top quality linen, including king pillows and New Zealand Wool duvets. There is a large built in wardrobe with plenty of hanging space available in both rooms. Subtle sensor lighting guides you to the generous en-suite where there are large walk-in glass surround showers, underfloor heating and heated towel rails. Also downstairs there are radiators heating the entrance hallway and the fully equipped laundry. Whatever the weather, cold is not optional here!

The outside area wraps around the house and this is where you will find the washing line, outside taps and wood store. Most of the area is laid to lawn. There is a cobbled driveway with space for 2 cars.

There are brightly coloured beach towels available for guest use in the 1st floor bathroom on the vanity shelf.

Riverstone Kitchen (check opening operational hours before visiting) and Castle is 35kms North of Oamaru and the Victorian Precinct in Oamaru is just a 10 minute drive north from Kakanui. The Harbour Street Bakery can be found there, along with great art galleries, fashion and design shops. The Del Mar restaurant is along the harbour and Cucina Restaurant on Tees Street is recommended. Moeraki, with its two popular restaurants - The Fish Wife (Crayfish and Chips) and Fleur’s (check on opening hours before visiting - booking essential) is 25 minutes to the South.

CBD corner shop and bottle store will sell you, magnificent $2 ice cream scoops, fish and chip takeaways and other supermarket staples. The Natural Dairy is North on SH1, 9kms towards Oamaru and south 9kms you’ll find Brydone Fresh Organic Veggie stall and Brydone Wholefoods next door. The closest Caltex petrol station is in Alma on SH1 south of Deborah.

The radiators in the bedroom have you cosy all night long. Whether you want to relax on the couch and watch a movie, or a glass of wine and watch the moody skies roll by you will be wrapped up in comfort. Its a great spot to come home to after a bracing winter walk on the beach. We have now stayed both summer and winter and this property does not disappoint."
