Through the gate you will be greeted by a beautiful garden. The studio is at the back of the garden.

As you can see in the photos, there are a few steps up to the studio that are a bit uneven -- "landscaped" style stairs. For our elderly guests, be advised that there is no railing. The pathway is lit at night.

The studio/office entrance is through the office door, on the right of the back building. Enter the studio from the office.

The lock box will provide you a key to the front door. Please remember to leave the key when you depart at the end of your stay.

- "This sublet rental is part of a beautiful home in the Rockridge Hills. The garden looks and feels like a garden in a Tuscan villa. The unit was very clean and well appointed in terms of household items for your every need away from home. The closet is a very generous size with plenty of hangers, drawers, suitcase stands etc. The bed is very comfy, kitchen is well stocked. (dishes, pans, glasses- more than enough of everything!) Freeway entrances are close by ( via car) . Very quiet neighborhood. I particularly liked that the unit smelled (and was) very clean, all the bedding, towels etc were not laundered with detergents that carried a harsh or strong smell of any kind. The owners were very response and available. As former Oakland residents on vacation, my husband and I found this rental to be everything we hoped and wanted it to be."

- "Extremely clean and had everything. Only spent time basically sleeping in location but it was fine. Only complaints (if you want to call them that) were the following: 1. Requirement to not wear shoes in place. Seems to be very California like (request to not wear shoes). Little annoying but OK. 2. Bed was a bit on the smaller side. Not sure the size but definitely not king. Room size might have something to do with this. Honestly, we should have looked at bed size before booking if necessary. We were OK with bed size. 3. Nest HVAC was a little confusing. But was cool enough for our stay. On a positive note, the place had a washer and dryer which was awesome. Might want to consider putting a stool to get into top dryer (for someone shorter). The number of towels and sheets was huge. They were great! Very quiet area. Seemed newly renovated and nice place! There are 2 possible sleeping options 2 queen beds. To ensure a good night sleep we use quality Sheets, Blankets and Down Pillows. Both bedrooms have 40” smart TV”S set up with Netflex.

KITCHEN:
The fully equipped Kitchen is designed for cooks and those who just like to eat. We supply a variety of Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Sweeteners and perhaps a few small treats! Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Our 850 sq. ft. cozy cottage is located on a one lane dead end street where there is no traffic and is very safe! It is peaceful and quiet save for our 9 chickens which roam the yard from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. Located close to SF, the Montclair shopping district, Chabot Space Center, the Redwoods of Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland Zoo, any many other wonderful attractions (check out Canyon). The cottage is a cozy 850 sq. ft. There is WiFi and NO TV, a comfortable Queen Bed and a small work area if needed. The kitchen is hopefully equipped with everything you'll need and the pantry has misc. food items for your use. We live in the home right next door if anything additional is needed or if you have any questions regarding your stay. Recommendations are freely given! - "I spent six weeks in the apartment and found Steve and Maya to be attentive, gracious, and overall fantastic hosts. They were readily available to answer questions and fix problems (very few), as I encountered them. The place is beautiful, as the photos show and being a longer term renter, I found the high end new washer/dryer to to be a much appreciated added bonus. The neighborhood is centrally located and just a few minutes drive to the Lakeshore, Montclair, and Piedmont area shopping districts. It’s also a neighborhood with wide streets and sidewalks, which make it ideal for walking and running. With that said, I do have one suggestion for Steven and Maya. The noise transfer from up above was quite loud and the place would benefit considerably from sound proofing. Although I rarely heard voices, I could here almost every footstep above me. If they were to take care of this one issue, the place would be perfect!"

Getting Around

Here are the different options for getting around during your stay:

BY CAR:

Downtown San Francisco is about 13 miles, or 20 minutes away with light traffic. The house is located near the I-580 and CA-13 freeways for easy access to the East Bay and greater Bay Area.
You can also drive to Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station in about 7 minutes, park there ($2 or $5/day), and take a BART train.

BY TRANSIT:
Within 1-3 blocks from the house there are bus stops serving AC transit lines (14, 54, 57, 654, 655, 657, 680, 805) around Oakland and to BART stations as well as an express line to and from San Francisco (NX/NX2). Additional local and express bus lines (58L, NL, and NX3) stop within 5 blocks.
The quickest route to downtown SF is to take the NX3 express bus non-stop (about 40 minutes) this is available in the early mornings and evenings. At other times you can take the NL bus direct to downtown SF.
You can take either the 14 or 54 bus to Fruitvale Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station. BART runs about every 10-20 minutes. From Fruitvale BART, the train ride is 17 minutes to the first San Francisco stop (the entire trip will take 45-54 minutes).

IMPORTANT NOTES:

BART stops running at midnight, so plan accordingly to avoid missing the last train.
If you plan to stay out late in San Francisco, taking a cab/Uber/Lyft is a good option that previous guests at our home have utilized.

There are 2 bedrooms, one of which has a queen-size bed that sleeps 2. The other bedroom is smaller and comes with a twin bed. You get a relatively spacious living area. You also get a small kitchen and a cozy bathroom with a shower stall. Outside the unit is a patio on which you can gather with your friends/family/colleagues and enjoy a beautiful morning/afternoon/evening. Behind the larger bedroom is a storage area where you can put your stuff in case you are staying longer.

Guest access
Walk up the first flight of stairs. You will see the gas/electric meter on the east side of the house. The combo lock box is located at the gas meter. The code is 0408. Can be changed from time to time. Walk towards the patio and open the little gate. The entrance is to your left. Pass through the mini kitchen to the living area. Navigate your way to the bedrooms, bathroom, and storage area. Locate the TV remote if you fancy streaming anything. If you need access to the Internet, look for The Money Market. Your password is $1Billion2023. Let me know if you need anything.

Other things to note
The freeway is just around the corner, in case you need to hop to Downtown Oakland, Downtown San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose or any other fun cities in the Bay. Lake Merrit is just around the corner and so is the Zoo. But if you just need somewhere quiet, breathe fresh area and enjoy a beautiful just walk up 32-3 blocks on Fruitvale Ave. To your left, you will see a great rec complex where you can play tennis, swim, enjoy a thick forest, etc. And did I tell you about the shops, restaurants, and banks that are all located on Fruitvale Avenue?
