- "Cottage was perfect, so clean and cosy." - "Finale Cottage was surprisingly spacious. It was tastefully furnished and very well equipped. The heating was effective and made it so cosy. It sits at the end of a little lane, so is quiet whilst being very close to pubs and local shops. We had a fantastic stay." - "A very nice little cottage at the end of a very narrow street, just enough turning space to reverse into parking space. Very large boot room which was extensively used and a very welcoming lounge with large settee. Didn't need to make use of the wood burners as property was warm enough. Galley style kitchen very well equipped but a tight squeeze for two people in it at same time; could do with a proper old fashioned tin opener though. Dining room just enough room for 6 adults as it is. Bedrooms are a good size, had a travel cot in the largest one and still plenty of room. Beds are on the firm side but warm and cosy. I kept hitting my ankles on the bedstead though as I like to sleep with my feet hanging off the end! Only one bathroom which is a decent size and a downstairs loo as well which was good. Emergency light at top of stairs came on twice for some reason, both times during the night and had to reset the circuit breaker which was in the boot room. Other than that, a lovely little cottage overlooking fields behind and less than a minute's walk to the shop for fresh croissants and The Crown which serves good food at reasonable prices."

- "This is a lovely spacious cottage surrounded by fields on 3 sides. Photographs on website don’t do justice to it and rooms are a lot bigger than you expect. Homely, very well equipped and comfortable. Great location apart from the Bridge in the village itself not currently being open to cars at the moment meaning the only way in and out is via Eumont Bridge. 4 restaurants/pubs in village plus a lovely tearoom and takeaway/secret garden both with river views. For those who like a Gin the off licence/shop has a huge stock. The kitchen in the bungalow is not large and could benefit with room to store food rather than just the fridge but we were able to use the sideboard in the large dining rooms We had 3 issues with the cottage, the main bathroom toilet flushing mechanism was broken on arrival and poor water pressure to hot tap in en-suite both of which were resolved the day after we reported them. The 3rd issue was the wooden bedposts at the foot of the master bed, which both my hubby and I stubbed our toes on and then my hubby tripped over the bedding which hung over them and landed heavily on his ribs/breast bones on the knoB on top of the post. This resulted in a 999 call due to him struggling to breath and he ended up in Carlisle hospital on only the 2nd day of our holiday and injuries which will take 3 months to heal. My suggestion would be change the bed to a divan to avoid any chance of further accidents. Otherwise we had a great week and would certainly stay again. Margaret House is a spacious contemporary detached property with a garden to three sides, set in a peaceful location just a five-minute walk from the shops, cafes, and the Ullswater Steamers. The spacious house has a fantastic layout comprising a large living area with comfy sofa seating, a wood-burning stove, and a large Freeview smart TV—perfect for those not-sunny days.
Adjacent to the living area is the well-equipped country-cottage-style kitchen with all the mod-cons and bags of workspace and storage, perfect for cooking up a family meal to enjoy around the large rectangular dining table. Weather permitting, open the French patio doors to the paved patio and garden, expanding the social space even more!
Margaret House has four spacious bedrooms on the first floor, accessed via the floating staircase. Both double bedrooms benefit from en-suite shower rooms, and the house bathroom comprises a bath, separate shower, toilet, and basin. All the bathrooms have heated towel rails.
On the heating note, the house is kept cosy and warm thanks to the oil-fired boiler—the ground floor has underfloor heating, and the first floor has radiators in all the rooms. Both floors can be adjusted independently.
The outside space is equally special, but we must point out that the garden has terraced levels, so you will need to keep an eye on the kids. To the side of the house is the driveway offering off-street parking, and to the rear is the paved lower level of the garden and the lawn upper level.
The setting, in Pooley Bridge, is prime Lake District territory with classic fell top and lower-level walks all around. The village has many cafes, pubs, and independent shops, including a convenience store. The village bus stop connects with Penrith in one direction and Windermere in the other via Aira Force, Glenridding, Pooley Bridge and Kirkstone Pass.
We highly recommend Margaret House for families and friends. It's a stunning location with lots to do nearby.

About the property
Eaton Lodge is a spectacular house in the Lake District, set on three-quarters of an acre of land beside the River Eamont and with enchanting gardens. There is more than enough room for everyone to find their own space and do their own thing here, or socialise all together in the lounge, or the movie room or the games room. With an interesting history too: in the 18th century the original building marked the entrance to an estate owned by an anti-slavery campaigner who was friends with William Wordsworth. It is said that Wordsworth was inspired to write his poem Daffodils after seeing these flowers on the shores of Lake Ullswater, which is a few minutes' walk away from the lodge. It's not hard to see why, as the area is a breath-taking setting for a Lake District break.
The space
Eaton Lodge is an extensive residence set out over the original lodge and a two-storey tower extension, both of which have been designed so that most rooms take full advantage of the views of the gardens and the river beyond.
The main entrance is at the boot room where muddy wellies and wet coats can be left to dry before you head on into the house. The boot room also has access to the integral garage where there is secure parking.
The kitchen is an inviting place to prepare food and warm up on a cold day thanks to the Aga which is set to a slow heat and is good for slow-cooking stews, that will be ready on your return from a full day out. For general cooking there is a fan-assisted oven, hob and microwave, as well as a fridge, kettle, toaster and dishwasher. (A freezer and extra fridges can be found in the garage.) For informal dining sit at the table in the kitchen, whilst the separate dining room seats ten – perfect for everyone to share dinner and chat about the day's events.
There are plenty of rooms for recreation so everyone can find space to do what they want without disturbing anyone else. For family fun, the games room has a pool table and games to keep all ages entertained. Meanwhile, teens in particular will love the movie room on the second floor of the tower. Equipped with reclining chairs, a Super HD 55-inch TV, Netflix and Blu-Ray DVDs, it's the perfect place to chill out, watch a film or play computer games.
For quiet time there's the conservatory, located between the tower and the main lodge, which is flooded with natural light and is a serene place to read a book, watch the birds outside, or sip a cup of tea. Or, head to the hunting room which has views over the garden and leads out to a decked veranda. In the evenings, the hunting room is a cosy place to gather around the wood-burning stove, curl up on one of the comfy sofas and watch TV. If you like star-gazing, pick a clear night and spend some time on the top floor of the tower where there is a telescope to help you appreciate the sky in detail.
In the main lodge there are three bedrooms. The first has a double bed, views over the garden and a separate bathroom nearby with roll top bath and shower. The second is the master and features a king-size bed and en-suite shower room, plus space for a cot if required. Meanwhile, the third bedroom is particularly suitable for children as it has two bunk beds (four beds in total, which are big enough for adults), a TV and is located next to the dining room. Little ones can be left to settle knowing that the grown-ups are nearby –enjoying dinner – should they need them. There is a bathroom with a bath and shower nearby too.
Two further bedrooms are located in the tower; both are on the ground floor, one with a double bed and a shower room nearby, the other with a four-poster king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a roll top bath and the luxury of a TV.
Outside there are stunning, enclosed gardens that overlook the river and are a haven for wildlife including rabbits and ducks. Amongst the trees, shrubs and plants is a stream, terraces, a firepit and a variety of places to sit and dine al fresco. Meanwhile, to add an extra special touch to your time away, a hot tub can be hired on your behalf by prior arrangement.
