This is a delightful, charming barn conversion. Both spacious, yet cosy.
There is private parking at the front of the front of The Cottage for up to 3 cars.

Ideal for couples or families. Dog friendly.

The Cottage accommodates 4 people comfortably with two bedrooms and there is a double sofa bed in the living room should you need extra sleeping space. Dogs are considered part of the family and are very much welcome, but we must know their names :).

The living room boasts a log burning fire, some logs will be provided and you can purchase some more from the village. The rear of the cottage looks out over the private, enclosed, terraced garden that is accessed by the back door.

The dining area seats 6 and looks out over the rear garden.

There is a well equipped kitchen and a downstairs cloakroom/toilet. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a double bed and a smaller bedroom with twin beds. There is a family bathroom with a shower and bath.

We have indicated this cottage as not suitable for 0-2 years, this is due to there being no stair gates and there is no extra guard to the fire (other than its door). Your infants are welcome as long as you understand this risk. A travel cot can be provided if required and a high chair on request. Small person cutlery is provided in the kitchen.

Hartley has an abundance of red squirrels, pheasants and small birds that are often found passing through the back garden of the cottage. Look out for the parrots!

Kirkby Stephen is a traditional market town of historic buildings, cobbled yards, quaint corners and interesting shops.
It is on the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line. There is a heritage/information centre, café's, pubs, eateries, bakery and a superb Indian restaurant!

Situated in The Mallerstang valley, which is a beautiful and unspoiled area, described by David Bellamy as England’s last wilderness. There is plenty of wildlife, including red squirrels, deer and many bird nesting sites in the spring..

The Old Stables offers a cosy cottage with wood burning stove, open plan living and four large double bedrooms. There are red squirrels in the valley and often in the garden. There are many beautiful walks in the Yorkshire Dales and Cumbria, some straight from the house, or within short drives.

The house is very well equipped and includes a washing machine, slow cooker, bread maker, hyper-fastWiFi, a freezer and two refrigerators. It is fully centrally heated with an oil fired boiler. The wood burner isn’t needed to keep warm, but does make for a cosy evening in the comfortable living room. Logs and kindling are supplied to start you off.

The bedrooms are large, comfortable doubles. Three have double beds and one has two singles. One double, accessed via a spiral staircase, has an en suite and walk in wardrobe. There is another large family bathroom with a roll top bath and separate shower. There is also a downstairs loo.

Situated on the Coast to Coast footpath, the cottage is perfect for walkers. There is a variety of walks on offer to suit all abilities from a quiet riverside walk or a stroll along the railway lines to more challenging fell walks. The Eden Viaducts footpath starts in Hartley and the Howgill Fells are within easy reach, as are the North Pennines. The area is also great for cycling, with Kirkby Stephen on the C2C (Sea to Sea) Cycle Route. Other routes nearby include the W2W (Walney to Wear) coast to coast route and the Lakes and Dales Loop. There is an electric bike hire shop in the village and normal bike hire in Kirkby Stephen, or should you wish to bring your own bikes, storage is available on-site. Stable cottage is a delightful 17th century detached property just a few minutes walk from the centre of Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria where you will find all the shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants you need for a relaxed and enjoyable stay. It is in an enclosed courtyard area shared with 3 other properties – one of which belongs to the owner. It is ideally situated on the Coast to Coast Walk if you are having a rest day in Kirkby Stephen and it is also not far from Eden Wedding Barn.
It has 2 comfortable bedrooms, a large kingsize and a twin. There is one upstairs bathroom with a shower over the bath and a downstairs shower room. There is a good size lounge with a multi fuel stove, a starter pack of wood and coal is included with additional fuel available to purchase locally or through the owner.

Stable cottage also has a small conservatory/sun room where you can keep muddy boots and there is room for a couple of cycles. There is an additional lockable shed available too.
