- "Great stay for two night break on the coast to Coast trail. Staff was friendly and helpful. Friday nights are very loud with karaoke so be prepared! Food was good, but basic pub food. Breakfast had several choices and the avocado and poached egg was especially good. There's an awesome Indian restaurant called the mango tree just a few buildings down. Laundromat behind the Black Bull hotel which was very convenient. About 6 pounds to run the washer and one or two for the dryer. There's a tourist info place in the same area also and they have taxi information if you want to bypass the boggy part of the hike from Kirkby Steven to Keld. No buses on Sunday. "

These four beautiful castle bedrooms all boast original features including eighteenth century oak panelling, perhaps a wardrobe inside a turret, a floor to ceiling arched Gothic window over the front porch or a bay window extending the entire width of the room. Antique and modern four poster beds, sleigh bed or antique canopied half tester bed, glorious bathrooms and views over the gardens.

These rooms are the oldest in the castle and do not have step-free access. Cots and rollaway beds can be provided on request subject to availability.

The ORANGERY is on the ground floor outside the main castle, with huge arched gothic windows opening onto your own secluded garden and the castle gardens beyond. There is a modern open top superking four poster bed, stunning bronze wall and fabulous contemporary bathroom, and a connecting day room has a French-style metal day bed which opens as two full sized singles.

Dogs are welcome in our garden suites by prior arrangement.
