The Cottage is charming and cozy, built in the1920's, completely renovated in 2020. Decorated with a Texas-centric flair, it is comfortable with all essentials provided, as well as many "nice to have" items to add to your enjoyment of the Cottage and your experience of Smithville.

Our favorite spaces are the Dining Room with its welcoming family-style dining atmosphere and the covered Back Deck which invites you to relax and lounge; enjoy a conversation; or choose to have a private moment, book in hand and wine glass at the ready.

Steps away, you will find the Chamber of Commerce where you can get all sorts of flyers and guides to local attractions in Bastrop County and the Railroad Museum with pictures, memorabilia, and information about Smithville's history as a railroad town. Oh, and you can get your picture taken with Smitty, a full-size representation of what was for many years, the world's largest gingerbread man.

After getting your favorite espresso drink at the General Store, you can explore the local galleries, vintage and antique stores, or follow the map to the locations where a variety of movies have been filmed locally, including "Hope Floats." Using the golf cart could be handy for your tour and, while you are at it, admire the lovely last-century architecture of the homes and other buildings of our small town -- surely one of the reasons it's been popular with the movie-makers.

You can walk a few blocks to eat at one of the restaurants downtown that offer a range of foods from brunch on the weekends, to pizza and barbecue, to finer dining options. And, you can always go next door to Huebel's Bier Garden, a local watering hole purported to be Willie Nelson's favorite Smithville bar, where you can enjoy a game of pool (it's still free!) and a beer and meet some of the locals who enjoy gathering there after their workday is over.

We, your hosts, think of Smithville as a place to relax; a place to get away from the traffic and stress of what many of us experience in our busy daily lives. It's a place to get together with other family members, to arrange a friends' reunion, to celebrate a special occasion. And, you will find that Smithville is a great "jumping off" point for further exploration of historic West Texas towns such as Bastrop (15 miles), LaGrange (28 miles) or Roundtop (35 miles). If you google "Explore Bastrop County," you will find all sorts of activities to choose from, and those are fun too.

Things like extra charging cords, coffee & tea, fresh pastries, additional bathroom items, etc. showed the thoughtfulness of the hosts. I was concerned about the neighborhood bar being right next door, but it was not an issue. We sat on the porch and enjoyed the local live music being played on Sat night (there was hardly anyone even there on Fri). They stopped playing around 11 and had we decided to go to bed sooner, the bedrooms are located on the opposite side of the house & the walls well insulated, so don't let that discourage you from booking like it almost did me. We would have missed out on a great stay. Our expectations for future vrbos is set high after staying here. Thank you to the hosts for such a positive experience where many good memories were made!"

Other Things to Note:
As mentioned in the security section, we do want our guests to know we have a camera over our Cowboy Pool. While we understand the importance of privacy, this is simply for legal protection of the hosts in case a guest is injured or the pool is damaged during a stay. We want our guests to feel as secure as possible, so please know the hosts are not watching the camera, it is used only for emergencies. We hope you enjoy your stay!

Offered by sisters Rebecca and Marilyn, Jewell’s is a charming two-bedroom cottage completely renovated in 2020. Decorated with a nod to its Texas roots, it has an eclectic vibe. It provides all the essentials including high-speed internet, one covered parking space (plus two uncovered), and a well-appointed kitchen. You will find many non-essential items are included which will add to your enjoyment of the Cottage.

The two bedrooms are roomy and comfortable (the master bedroom has a Tempurpedic mattress). Located one block from downtown (shopping and restaurants) and 5 local parks including Veterans Park (splashpads), Bark Park, and Skate Park (bring your board). It is just 45 minutes from Austin, and an easy drive to other, Hill Texas communities including Round Top, La Grange, Bastrop and Buescher State Parks.

Our favorite spaces are the eat-in kitchen with its welcoming family-style dining island; the detached deck in the fenced-in back yard that invites you to relax and lounge, with or without a canine friend; and a covered front porch with two rocking chairs as well as a picnic table and benches, ideal for enjoying a conversation or choosing to have a private moment, book in hand and wine glass at the ready while enjoying a lovely sunset.

Downtown is only two blocks away and you can easily walk, enjoying our small-town ambiance with all it has to offer.

Other things to note
Smithville is a lovely place to visit with the intention of relaxing and enjoying the sorts of activities one might expect to find in a small town. Check out the SmithvilIe Chamber of Commerce website and, if you want to explore a little further afield, the "Explore Bastrop County" magazine and the associated website are excellent resources for other nearby possibilities. Smithville is convenient to numerous Hill Country festivals as well as the Circuit of the Americas with all their exciting events, not to mention all the entertainment available in Austin.

Do keep in mind that if you are looking for a comfy location with room for a gathering of family and friends, Ruby's Foxcroft Cottage (listed separately) is located right next door. Bedroom 1 - King Bed with bathroom across the hall; Bedroom 2 - 2 Queen beds with ensuite bathroom; Bedroom 3 - King bed with bath down the hall; Bedroom 4 - 2 Full beds with bath down the hall. Quaint living room overlooking the outdoor pool area adjacent to the kitchen. There is an outdoor area under the carport to allow for outdoor dining.

You will have the entire home with the exception of laundry facility.

If you are staying 4 or more nights, we give access to laundry facilities.

All entrances into the home require at least 3 stairs to walk up. This is a 1920s home and would like all guests to know this prior to booking.
Rooms are meant for 2 people max. No extra people. We will charge you for an extra room.

Pool is available on a seasonal basis. The pool is Swim at your own risk - no lifeguard on duty. No diving in the pool. Kindly use the stripped towels provided for pool use. Pool is for guest use only.
