No stairs (except to the laundry room, 4 pairs of washers and dryers, I wondered when I read the listing) and a hallway in between one and two which worked out great for us (my cousin’s family stayed in #2). The condo was laid out excellent for our purposes and felt a lot bigger than it was! My three sons loved the bunks and rotated out so everyone got a night on top. It was a short drive to the three public beaches and we tried them all, we recommend the quiet east end cove for little kids swimming. The upstairs was loud (little kids running) but as parents we didn’t mind, if it bothers you then you might want to book the upper units. Quiet street and everything was clean as a whistle. Would definitely come back!"

On the last day as we were packing up, it rained so we were thankful they had umbrellas in the basket by the door. We did a Sunday to Friday trip at the end of September through first of October. We were in unit C and the only ones in the 4-plex for most of it. The place is on a quiet side street though the whole island is pretty quiet from our first experience. The unit itself was well equipped and looked like it was nearly new. The big, open kitchen and living room were where we spent most of our time. Since it was just the two of us and our pup, we didn't use the other two bedrooms and bathroom but they were also setup well. The master bedroom with the king bed and the bathroom was a great space. The washer and dryer worked well and we had an easy time taking home clean clothes. The WiFi was strong in the whole unit so we had no problem uploading pictures and getting emails. We did not use the grill but two were available for the 4-plex. They also had two sets of cornhole boards. All in all, nice unit, nice area and relaxing vacation. "

The Neighborhood:
The 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary is just down the road. The sanctuary is a well-known destination for birdwatchers in search of one of the hundreds of species that live in and migrate through the sanctuary year-round, such as herons and pelicans. Visitors can take a walking tour though the palmetto palms where they can experience the birds in the lush native flora and fauna of the island.

The Mobile Bay Ferry is located just a short drive away. The ferry, which departs every hour and a half during the day, transports passengers to the historic Fort Morgan located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Just past the ferry is a popular boat launch on the island, where anglers launch their boats sunrise to sundown. Boat trailer parking for the boat launch can be tricky, especially during summer months, so Alvarado’s close proximity to the launch makes it an ideal location for anglers because of the extended boat parking offered to guests. Each unit can accommodate one boat trailer in addition to their parking.

The Dauphin Island Estuarium, an aquarium that is home to more than 100 different species of native Alabama marine life, and the historic Fort Gaines, where you can find guided tours of the 1821 fort that protected Mobile Bay during the Civil War, are both located within one mile of the property as well. There are three public beaches on Dauphin Island — the East End Public Beach, Bienville Beach and the West End Public Beach. The closest beach access to Alvarado is the East End Beach, which a little more than a mile away from Alvarado past Fort Gaines (a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk).

With the almost dozen restaurants and snack bars on the island, there’s no shortage of local fare and fresh seafood. Almost every menu on the island serves up the freshest seafood in the South, including freshly caught snapper, grouper, oysters and crab. During the summer there are outdoor movies shown on the West End of the island, and the Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo during July brings more than 75,000 spectators to the island for a weekend of fun and sports fishing.

Even though the island is small (it’s only 14 miles long and less than 2 miles wide or less, in some areas), it offers an endless amount of activities for vacationers, including an 18-hole golf course and endless water activities. Boat, jet ski, stand-up-paddleboard and kayak rentals are available, as well as sunset cruises and beach access to most of the 17 miles of powder, white sand beaches that wrap around the island. These offerings, in addition to deep-sea fishing and diving, make this Gulf Coast sanctuary one of the top destinations for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Gulf.

Getting Around:
Because of the ideal location of this property, guests can take a quick drive or easily bike or walk to nearby attractions and restaurants. Although there is no public transportation, there are miles of walking and biking trails around the island that makes getting around a breeze. Bikes and golf carts are available to rent on the island! The Dauphin Island website is a great resources to stay up to date with events on Dauphin Island.

Other Things to Note:
Each apartment has a private parking slot under the building, which fits 2-3 cars. It can also accommodate some boats! Please reach out to the property manager for more information and specifications! We welcome up to two dogs per stay for a $100 pet fee, with a maximum weight limit of 75 lbs each. Guest access
The week of your stay I will send an email with the gate code and where to obtain the key to the unit. I will also provide the password for our internet service. Please keep in mind that the WIFI service on the Island is not that great and if it goes out I cannot fix it. CenturyTel has to fix it and it usually takes 2 or more days. Our office manager does not have anything to do with WIFI – we purchase it directly from CenturyTel and I have experienced outages myself when on the Island. The internet does not work at the beach, only in our condo.
Your cell phone will NOT work very well in the unit or at the beach. You may have to leave the condos for your phone to work.

Other things to note
Our beaches are prone to high surf during storms. Please watch your family and do not go in the water when the surf is rough. Our beach is small in areas but a short walk and it opens up. This happens during storms.
We provide pots, pans, utensils, sheets and four beach chairs. Please keep in mind this is a rental, we provide a starter paper towels, toilet paper in both bath rooms, a trash bag for the kitchen, a dish pod for dish washer, 2 pods for laundry and small liquid soap. If you are staying more than two days you may want to pick up supplies.

You can also spend a day riding to Fort Morgan by the Mobile Bay Ferry over to Fort Morgan and Gulf shores are. There are bike and kayak rentals, fishing charters, miniature golf and of course hanging out on the beach.

Holiday Isle has a private gated entrance with an access code to the beach complete with a boardwalk to make the trek easy, and you can rinse off all of the sand at the foot wash station near the gate.

A lovely walk to the left down the beach will take you to the serene pelican cove where you can watch the kite surfers and enjoy the local birds and sea life.

Dauphin Island is a beautiful and quaint coastal community with a laid-back vibe. There are several fun restaurants and shops on the island, many within walking distance of the condo. The beach is the prime attraction, but you can take a break from the sun and sand to check out the Dauphin Island Sea Lab / Aquarium, Audubon Bird Sanctuary and hiking trails, and historic Fort Gaines.

Guest access
You will have access to the whole unit and all the amenities except the owners lounge. To access the work out room you will need to check in at the front desk and leave your drivers license. It’s closed on Sundays to guests because the front desk is closed that day. The outdoor pool and boardwalk to the beach will be closed for maintenance between November 1 and 22nd 2024. This will not affect your stay because it is too cold to swim outside in November anyway. There is a path to the beach that will be marked with signage. So sorry for the inconvenience!

Other things to note
Guests must be at least 25 years old to book and all guests under the age of 25 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No pets are allowed. This is an HOA rule and owners will be fined $250 if a pet is found, which will be passed on to guests. No extra guests are allowed without prior permission. 6 guests max. No smoking of any type allowed anywhere at Holiday Isle. Children must be accompanied by parents at all times. Guests will need to check in at the front desk to use the exercise room. This is a very peaceful family complex. No events or parties are allowed and quiet time is 10 pm. Guests must be over 16 to use the hot tub, steam room or sauna.
