The space
The loft is separate from but attached to the main house with its own entrance area and inside stairs leading up to your space.

It is spacious with a kitchenette at the entrance leading to a sleeping area with a king bed and small desk, and a separate room with two single beds. No TV.

The kitchenette has no stove or oven. The kitchenette has a microwave, kettle, small fridge and four sets of cutlery, crockery, water and wine glasses.

The bathroom with shower is off the main sleeping area and there is a smaller, separate bedroom with two single beds.

There are open shelves and a hanging rack for clothes.

The estate has a communal swimming pool within walking distance and a small jungle gym and kiddies swing.
It’s also a lovely estate for an afternoon stroll or jog; safe and beautiful.

Other things to note
There is no oven in the loft. No braai facilities. No TV.

If 4 guests are staying, extra adults pay a surcharge. Children of school age stay free.

We change linen and towels once a week if you’re with us for more than 5-7 days.

If you would like our lovely domestic worker, Londi, to clean the loft, wash up or make beds during your stay, please leave your door open and message me to request service on the days she is available (excl. Saturdays & Sundays). This will incur an extra charge.

Please let me know if there are breakages so I can keep the kitchen crockery complete.

The space
A beautiful loft in The Gates, Hilton. A tranquil and quiet spacious studio with a fully equipped kitchen. Enjoy the spacious king size bed and anti allergic superior duvet (for those who battle with allergies). A sitting area to enjoy your cups of tea or coffee, with bar stools at the kitchen counter where you can partake in your delicious meals made in the fully equipped kitchen. Should you wish to do your laundry there is a washing machine, clothes drying rack and iron for you to use.

Other things to note
Before arrival and after departure the loft is thoroughly cleaned. Should guest be staying for an extended period or require servicing during their stay, additional servicing can be arranged at a fee.

The unit is fully functional as stand alone with a washing machine, full stove and oven.

We have a minimum 2 night booking policy with checkin on Fridays but ask us if we are able to welcome you for 1 night stays during the week should this be suitable for the host’s planning.

The space
When relocating to Hilton from Zimbabwe in 2003, Gateside Guesthouse took our breath away with its stunning views and victorian charm, typical of the area. It's easy to believe that one has stepped out of Africa in this lush, misty countryside... Gateside is definitely a "character" home, being part of the original "Kings Gap" farm, since subdivided and now with the main Victorian farmhouse next door which dates back to the 1800's.

It became our home and 11 years' later, the view still attracts as much as ever; constantly changing with the seasons and different weather patterns (which, in Hilton, is often!) The story goes that Gateside is the oldest Bed & Breakfast still in existence in Hilton. It has a central location but is tucked away in a peaceful cal-de-sac.

We are a happy bunch with longstanding staff who welcome you with friendly smiles. Our aim is that everyone should feel at home and comfortable, whether it's business or pleasure.

Each of the units comes with the following amenities: panel heaters, electric blankets, hairdryers, hospitality fridge, tea-rays, Dstv commercial bouquet, wireless internet access and fans.

For guests who wish to eat in, we offer a delivery dinner service from one of our excellent local caterers: a tray is brought to your room with main course and side dishes and dessert. Orders need to be made 24 hours prior and please let us know of any specific dietary requirements.

A choice of either a full health and delicious, traditional English breakfast or a substantial health option is served in the conservatory on the deck of the main house. Open between 7 to 9am Monday to Saturday and 7:30 to 9:30am Sundays. If guests require an early start, please give us 24 hours' notice and we will provide a health breakfast tray to your room.

A charming, fully self-catered family cottage. Main bedroom has king bed or it can be twin singles and the smaller children's bedroom has two single beds. A tastefully furnished sitting room with traditional victorian fireplace leads through to the dining/kitchenette area. The bathroom has shower over bath and there is a lovely private verandah on which to sit and relax. This cottage has a "pocket garden" fenced-off at the front so that toddlers can be kept safe from the pool area and it is also a pet-friendly unit.

You can hire vehicles from Pietermaritzburg and Durban airports, as well as shuttle services. However it is easiest to have your own transport.

Outside guests are only allowed on the property if prior arrangements have been made with the owner. No loud music or excessive drinking of alcohol.

Please note that Hilton is subject to power cuts on a continual basis. We will do our best to inform you if we are aware of any outages, however sometimes they do happen without us being aware.
