At the Loerie was built in 1883, one of the first buildings of purpose to be built in a newly developing town. Knysna has since grown and developed and this unique guesthouse has too...
Many of the original features of the house tell the story of the many lives this house has lived. It is a charming and characterful home, definitally quirky!
Each room is individual, and each bathroom configuration is unique.

We offer a common lounge area with TV. Our tea and coffee station is situated in this communal area where guests can help themselves to abundant tea and coffee.

There is a shared kitchen where our guests can prepare a meal - although, Knysna is on the foodie map and when eating out, you are spoilt for choice.

Two large veranda's offer extra seating and outdoor sofas.

Knysna's history is in the wood industry and we share our yard with an emporium of second hand and restored furniture, it's a treasure trove on our door step. This also adds a nice element of activity to the week days when the store is open.

Set on the westerly facing hills of Welbedacht Knysna, lies a tranquil smallholding perched on the slopes of the Knysna Estuary National Park. Sip on your favourite cocktail while soaking up the majestic sunsets or lie in your hammock and watch the Knysna Loeries glide over as they move between canopy of trees around your charming cottage...

The space
The newly renovated cottage has one bedroom and bathroom, with an open plan spacious lounge and kitchen. The deck has amazing sunset and estuary views and there is a rustic outside bath and shower to enjoy. There is also a long table outside with a pizza oven. Your evenings are lit by fairy lights to add to the magic of this spot.
We are on our way to being self-sustainable and often stock the cottage with eggs, lemons and honey when possible. We have just installed solar too.
We call our donkey, Banjo or Donka-lonks and his friend is a goat. Banjo loves carrots and cuddles. We have a Weimeraner called Duke and a Sausage dog called Daxie. Our animals are all rescues and adoptions, this is very dear to our hearts. This is a small farm, so there will be some animal sounds to enjoy, however, they add to the charm of this spot.

We would love guests to enjoy the whole property, just be mindful of the animals. It really is a labour of love and a peaceful oasis.
The pizza pergola is lovely and only used by us occasionally, with prior notice.

We have just finished renovating the cottage and are excited to share the new look with our guests. We have also installed Solar, so load-shedding should not hamper your amazing holiday in Knysna.
We have also just extended the deck in front of the bedroom. You can now walk out on to the deck from your room to enjoy the sunset.
