- "We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good and the room was comfortable. A few things to note, though: - the hotel is a good 15m walk from the walls of Lucca, so you need to plan your days as it’s not easy to pop back during the day, especially in the heat of August. Bike hire is extra - 35 euro a day. - the pool is lovely - comfortable and a lovely space to relax. However, it’s only open from 10am - 7pm which was a shame as it’s not possible to have a swim before breakfast and then head out for the day. Worth bearing in mind if you have children who might be raring to get in the pool first thing! - no bar open in the evening and nowhere nearby to eat or drink, so be prepared to be out in Lucca in the evenings Overall the hotel was lovely and we enjoyed our stay, but the pool restrictions and the location are worth bearing in mind. - "I so thoroughly enjoyed my stay at La Gemma di Elena! It is a lovely property situated near the city center- walking distance to everything you might want to see. Around the corner from the Piazza del Anfiteatro. The property appears to have been someone's flat at one point- and is now divided into several guest rooms and a large entry room where a tasty breakfast is served every morning. The room was well appointed- complete with a mobile air conditioning unit which was key in late August this year! It was the best night of sleep that I experienced my entire two weeks in Italy! The staff were very kind- and I believe it was one of the owners that carried my luggage downstairs for me when I was leaving. Highly recommend this little gem if you are traveling to beautiful Lucca! :)"
