To use the property/grounds for groups up to 20 we charge a grounds hire fee of $500 a day (8 hours). To use the property/grounds for groups up to 50 (maximum number) we charge a grounds hire fee of $700 a day (8 hours). If you’d like to make a group booking please contact your host.

Firewood and kindling will be provided on the balcony - you may also collect fallen kindling or firewood from the property or forest surrounding the property.
HEATING & COOLING
Please use the heating as necessary while in the house. Please do not leave the heating on while not in the house. Excessive use will lead to very high costs which may be charged to the guest via the security bond. Fans are provided, however as Mount Dandenong is generally about 5 degrees cooler than the other parts of Melbourne and as The Fernglen Forest Retreat is located in a gully with a creek running through the property, provided a further cooling effect, the property rarely gets too warm, even in the summer.
LOCKING AND KEEPING THE PROPERTY SAFE
While staying at the property, please ensure that the property is adequately always protected against theft and intrusion.
CLEANING
A standard bed and breakfast clean is provided in your price. Any excessive cleaning caused by guests will be charged to the guest via the security bond, as necessary to reinstate the home to its prior condition (e.g. leaving unwashed dishes, leaving rubbish, etc). Guests are to wash their own dishes. Some of the cottages are fitted with dishwashers.
CHECKING IN AND CHECK OUT
Check in time is from 3 pm onwards unless another time has been prearranged. Check out time is until 10 am unless another time has been prearranged. On the day of your check out please use the following checklist:

Words from the owners: We loved the style of the buildings with a central corridor and a veranda at the front. I often thought about the cosy and uncomplicated feeling these buildings generated. Combined with the modern facilities of the bathroom and kitchen we thought this feeling would make an unusual and interesting stay for guests who perhaps come from the city. The setting in a tiny garden and being adjacent to Sherbrooke Forest (walk there through our back gates) and close to Belgrave township and the Villages of Sassafras, Olinda and Mt Dandenong we hope will appeal to you as our guests.

You will be very comfortable in the antique iron queen bed, or cosied up by the fire in the lounge room watching Foxtel on the large TV. The kitchen is delightfully put together for you, so lots of interesting antique kitchen ware - even a Kookaburra Stove which is just for 'Show N Tell' - it is decorative only. But we have included a fridge, a microwave and an electric frypan as well as the absolutely essential Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and toaster.

A welcome pack of coffee, tea, sugar and fresh milk is provided - you might also like to add a delicious hamper for your stay (additional fees apply).

Beautiful leadlight windows in the bedroom and bathroom for your enjoyment. The bathroom is beautiful and has a delightful overhead rain shower in the huge walk in shower - there's room for two in there!

And there's Wifi for you of course if you must! (Do note that internet and phone reception in the Dandenong Ranges can be unstable and please understand we have no control over that. If you rely on wifi please bring a backup modem).

PLEASE NOTE: The lighting of wood burning fires in properties will be prohibited from the beginning of the declared fire danger season (normally mid December) to the end of February. It is also prohibited on all days of Total Fire Ban at any time of the year. Please see www.cfa.vic.gov.au/home If there is no wood and kindling provided at your property, it will be because of this policy. The collecting and burning of twigs, leaves and branches from outside your property is strictly forbidden at anytime.

Botanica Retreat is a delightful retreat for two, encircled by beautiful mature gardens and specimen trees, with a wrap-around verandah on 3 sides and sunset glimpses from the deck, lots of windows to let in the northerly light and heating and cooling for year-round comfort.

Sit in the morning sun with a coffee, or wait till the afternoon and enjoy a sundowner on the verandah while watching and listening to the birdlife and soaking up the refreshing greenery of the gardens. Silvan is a scenic town, located 40km east of Melbourne, centrally located within 7 minutes drive to Monbulk, Mt Evelyn, Seville and Wandin townships, set amongst the rolling hills of the Yarra Valley at the base of the Dandenong Ranges.
As a township of the Yarra Valley, Silvan offers easy and direct access to all the finest vineyards and wineries in the region. Silvan itself is a quiet town, with nutrient rich reed soil, well suited to growing fruits, vegetables and flowers. They are many pick-yourself orchards and berry farms surrounding the property.
If you are looking for group accommodation, perhaps you are attending a wedding in the area, then look no further. Please note we are not a function centre, we primarily support other venues with accommodation only.
The self-contained and private apartment has its own access and undercover outdoor balcony area, your privacy is assured. The apartment is located on a working Permaculture Farm, has beautiful views of surrounding farmland and mountains ranges. Additionally, there are 3 suites that have private ensuites and kitchenette areas.
The lodge offers easy, contactless access, free undercover parking and entry is via a ramp, there are no stairs. There is lock box at the front door of each door, providing for contactless access and you will be given a code to retrieve the keys.
There are a total of 7 bedrooms (including the 3 separate suites), Bedroom 1 has a queen size bed and ensuite, Bedroom 2 has a queen size bed and ensuite affect bathroom, Bedroom 3 has a bunk bed (double underneath, single on top), Bedroom 4 has 2 single beds.
The lounge room has a lounge suite, coffee table and smart tv. Extra floor cushions are supplied if extra seating is required. There is split system heating and cooling your comfort.
The kitchen is fully equipped. Cooking facilities include: stove top, oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine and fridge. Pots, pans, cutlery, assorted pantry items, coffee, tea, milk & sugar are all provided.
There are two bathrooms; and ensuite and main. The main bathroom has a bath, shower, and hairdryer and the ensuite has a shower and toilet.
There are also 3 private suites, all with queen size beds (suite 2 has a waterbed), private bathrooms, kitchenette and dining areas.
All linen, bedding and towels are provided.
There is free wifi available.
Outside there is a verge large covered patio with an amazing view of surrounding farmland and hills. King parrots, rosellas, cockatoos and galahs are regular visitors and seed is left in a jar outside if you would like to feed them. There is outdoor furniture if you would like to relax and take in your surrounding and a BBQ that you are welcome to use (please clean after use).
Pets are welcome but must be on a lead when outside at all times.
Please note: Our check in time is after 3pm and check out time is anytime prior to 11am, we are unable to provide later check outs.
Other things to note: Guests are expected to leave the property in a neat & tidy state, including dishes washed, used towels placed in bathroom for collection, fridge empty, rubbish in bin bags and personal items removed. This will ensure the property can be prepared and cleaned for the next guest by our attending cleaner.

The space
Our charming little cottage is a one bedroom cottage with seperate bathroom, toilet , lounge room and kitchen. The cottage is one of the early historic buildings of Ferny Creek with its original high ceilings and open fire. It is very warm and charming.
There is a little set of stairs from the entry and bedroom into the main area. Our bath and shower are also ones you have to step into. The cottage is filled with light and is a cosy place to relax.
Close the shutters and blinds at night to keep the warmth in and relax with the highest quality furnishings and linens.

Merri Loft has its own driveway and parking area.
There front door is located down a stone pathway with some steps.
The cottage has its own keypad which you can use to access the cottage.

Please note there are a set of steps both on the stone pathway and some inside the cottage. Please also note that one has to step into the bath to have a shower and or bath.

There's a kitchenette with microwave, an electric frypan and fridge. You don't need to cook much as you'll enjoy the eateries scattered around the local area.

The space
The idea for the cottage came from pioneer cottages we had visited in rural Victoria. We were fascinated to see the way people lived then and the furniture and utensils they used. I loved the style of the buildings with a central corridor and a veranda at the front. I often thought about the cosy and uncomplicated feeling these buildings generated. Combined with the modern facilities of the bathroom and kitchen we thought this feeling would make an unusual and interesting stay for guests who perhaps come from the city. The setting of tiny garden and being adjacent to Sherbrooke Forest (walk there through our gates) and close to Belgrave township and the Villages of Sassafras, Olinda and Mt Dandenong would appeal to you as our guests.

You will be very comfortable in the antique iron queen bed, or cosied up by the fire in the lounge room watching Foxtel on the large TV. The kitchen is delightfully put together for you, so lots of interesting antique kitchen ware - even a Kookaburra Stove which is just for 'Show N Tell' - it is decorative only. But we have included a fridge, microwave and an electric frypan as well as the absolutely essential Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and toaster.

Beautiful leadlight windows in the bedroom and bathroom for your enjoyment. The bathroom is beautiful and all new with a rain shower from the ceiling into the huge walk in shower - there's room for two in there!

Outside the back gate is the forest - have a wander or take a long walk or hike through the lush greenery and feel the serenity.

PLEASE NOTE: The lighting of wood burning fires in properties will be prohibited from the beginning of the declared fire danger season (normally mid December) to the end of February. If there is no wood and kindling provided at your property, it will be because of this policy. Magnolia Lodge sits on over an acre of beautifully landscaped grounds, with gardens providing a natural screen for complete privacy from the owner's residence nearby.

PLEASE NOTE:
Guests are provided with a supply of firewood - when that is all used, please BYO.
The collecting and burning of twigs, leaves and branches from outside your property is strictly forbidden at anytime.

During the fire season no wood or kindling provided will be provided at your property, you may set the fireplace or firepit on days where there is no wind and not a Total Fire Ban.

The Spa Cottage at the Fernglen Forest Retreatis a self-contained cottage immersed in seven acres of ferns and mountain ash forest. It has one bedroom (queen) and if needed a pull-out sofa bed in the lounge room that issuitable for children. The bathroom is equipped with a corner spa, and you enjoy a full kitchen with everything you need for longer stays, as well as a cosy fireplace. There is also a private electric BBQ and seating outside. Pets are allowed at owners discretion.

The space
Winding down the driveway you’re transported into an idyllic forest paradise, an oasis of private lush green rain forest, set on 7 acres of towering mountain ash trees and giant tree ferns. Sit and meditate by the private brook, discover the mini waterfalls, feed the friendly rosellas, king parrots, kookaburras and our impromptu resident cockatoo. Look out for the wombats and wallabies and even deer. If you’re wanting to immerse yourself in the healing virtue of nature, if you’re needing peace and quiet, spiritual, emotional, or physical rejuvenation, this retreat is for you.

While you’re with us treat yourself to Mount Dandenongs numerous tourist, natural and cultural attractions, gardens, bush walks, restaurants, music, cafés, specialist art and curio shops, not to mention the many wineries of the nearby Yarra Valley.


ON SITE SAUNA

We provide an onsite sauna with outdoor shower and bath, all set within a lovely private bush setting of forest views. Please understand that this is not included in your booking and can be booked for an additional fee via our website or by messaging us directly.

PETS

Your pets are welcome but must always be on leash when outside to protect wildlife. Please bring your own pets food requirements, bowls and bedding and please ensure no pets on the furniture. All pet waste is to be cleaned up by guests. Please refer to the Pet policy which will be sent to you after your booking. We charge an additional fee for pets to stay.

ON SITE MASSAGE

Indulge yourself with an in-house massage, facial or body treatment provided by Balance Mountain Day Spa Olinda.

GETTING THERE
The property address is 10 Fern Glen Ave Mount Dandenong.
If approaching from the Montrose (North) end of the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road turn left into Hume Lane (just before Tatra Hut) and second right into Fernglen Ave. Go to the very end of the road and you will arrive at our gates. The Mt. Dandenong Tourist Rd road runs to the top of the mountain and then down again to Upper Ferntree Gully which is at the bottom of the map (South).

SELF CHECKIN
Self check-in is available using a key safe box. The key safe box is located at the front door. A code will be emailed to you on the day prior to your check in.
To open the key box, follow the following instructions:
• Punch in the code (the code shall be sent to you on the day of your check in, via text and email). Should you not receive this code, please call Renee.
• Slide the open button down and remove the lid.
• The key shall be located inside the key box.
• After removing the key, enter the code again and slide down the open button and put the lid back.

CHECK-IN TIMES
Check-in time is 3 pm and checkout is 10am. If you need to extend these please contact us, but be aware that we can only offer one, at the most two hours extension as we do need to clean between guests

PARKING
All cottages offer parking for 2 cars and have a self check-in lock box hanging on the front door. Codes and directions to your cottage will be emailed to you the day before arrival.

Please note the Dandenong Ranges is home many animals and also to small little bugs which is a natural part of our ecosystem. You may encounter or hear some animals while staying with us, including noise from birdsong and possums. Small little bugs can also sometimes get inside and we do our very best to gently remove them during changeover.

Connectivity

We offer high speed internet (1ooMB). However we can't ensure no issues due to weather or maintenance. Phone service is touchy in the Dandenong Ranges. We encourage or guests to use wifi calling while staying with us.

Klara's Studio is our brand-new open plan studio at the Fernglen Forest Retreat. A perfect romantic couples retreat. Featuring a slow combustion fireplace and corner spa/shower with huge double-glazed windows looking onto private forest views. Studio is self contained, offering a split heating/cooling system, a well equipped kitchenette with dishwasher, a queen size bed and sofa bed in the common space as well as a seperate toilet. The veranda provides outdoor seating with forest views.
