Belle Cottage is located close to the Village of Sassafras, and a short drive to the renowned Proserpina Bakery, and close to the Villages of Olinda and Mount Dandenong. Stylishly furnished, Belle has two bedrooms, one with a double bed, and a queen bed in the other. The lounge area has a sweet wood burner, pefect for the chilly Hills days! Antique dining table to enjoy a meal or chat with friends, and bar stools at the kitchen bench - good for breakfast! Kitchen is functional, with upright cooker, fridge, coffee pod machine, everything you need for your stay. A little balcomy off the kitchen is perfect to take in the view of the trees, whilst enjoying your morning cuppa! Bathroom is well presented, with a shower over bath. Outdoor fire pit area with seating is an inviting area to gather around and maybe roast a marshmallow or two! (Not to be used when fire restrictions are in effect). WiFi? Of course! TV? Yes! With Chromecast to access Netflix (using your own account). A Welcome pack of fresh milk, tea, coffee and sugar is provided for you.

We welcome dogs to stay at the property with you, however, guests must obtain pre-approval and pay a pet surcharge for each pet that they wish to bring with them to the venue. Once the approval is made and the pet surcharge is paid, a Pet Approval Code will be issued and must be provided in your check-in form. No pets are permitted at the venue without a Pet Approval Code. The pet surcharge covers additional set-up costs prior to guest arrival and a standard commercial pet cleaning service. There is no outdoor fenced-in area or yard, so pets must be on a leash at all times when outside and their droppings must be picked up and disposed of in the outdoor garbage bin. We do not cater for cats, rabbits, ferrets or birds. Please contact us prior to making a booking to receive a quote for the pet surcharge and see if your dog will be approved.

Just when we thought things couldnt get worse the possum started scratching and running around the roof just as we settled into a comfy bed with the worst pillows ive ever slept on, one was like a rock the other felt like a handful of cotton balls in a pillow slip...the headache and neck pain was the worst. Instead of a morning coffee on the patio we got a mud puddle at the front door and as for the spa, it was that freezing in the bathroom that i didnt even bother running it. What was supposed to be a nice weekend without the kids and alarms for work, we come home completely exhausted and disappointed."

The Brook Cottage is a fully self-contained dwelling with 2 bedrooms and with parking for 2 cars. The lodge offers tranquil forest views from every window and a private outdoor patio. An ideal romantic couples or family getaway with one Queen sized bedroom plus a second bedroom furnished with a triple bunk bed, being a double bed on the bottom and single bed on the top. Brook Cottage also has a very comfortable double sofa bed in the lounge. This cottage is ideal for a family, a couple or up to 7 adults. The accommodation comes with free WIFI, a large internet steaming TV, a full kitchen, a washing machine and dryer, gas heating plus a cosy fireplace.

Finally, for pet lovers, the Cottage has a doggy door leading to a safe enclosed outdoor doggy play area.

Brook cottage is located in an idyllic, private and serene forest environment with its own brook is which is tucked away within ferns and towering mountain ash. As you meander down to the brook you will come across a charming and private sauna with its own outdoor bath and shower. To complete your rejuvenation you may like to hire this sauna. The cost is $60 per hour, and can be booked via our website.

The Mt Dandenong and Olinda shops, offering a supermarket, chemist, post office, pub, bakery, restaurants, craft and curio shops, etc are only 2 kilometres away.

CLEANING
Fernglen Forest Retreat adheres to high standard cleaning practices. Thorough cleaning and disinfecting takes place after each guest leaves. All bedding, towels etc are changed and professionally laundered and disinfected at above 40°C temperature.

PETS
Your pets are welcome. Please refer to the Pet policy which will be sent to you after your booking. We charge $25 a day for pets to stay.

We are happy to host outdoor events including wedding dinners or lunches, parties etc. Outdoor furniture is not provided and must be hired at guest expense. To use the property/grounds for groups up to 20 we charge a grounds hire fee of $500 a day (8 hours). SMOKING

Camellia Cottage is ideally located - just a leisurely 3 minute walk to the heart of the Olinda Village. Leave your car behind and explore the Village on foot - discovering galleries, boutique shops, and cafes. Don't forget to check out Olinda Cellars too! You might like to enjoy your purchase either on the covered front deck, or if the sun is out, on the back deck, whilst spotting Kookaburras!

Adding to this great location, you will find the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Gardens and the new playground a few hundred meters from the Cottage.

If you are a fan of the beautiful gardens in the Dandenong Ranges, Cloudehill, Pirianda Gardens and the R J Arboretum are a short drive away.

You will find all you need to enjoy your stay at Camellia Cottage. Queen size bed in the master bedroom, and now 2 single bunk beds in the cute (and well stocked!) kids playroom. A fully equipped modern kitchen and a complimentary breakfast hamper are provided for one morning of your stay.

Wi Fi, large TV, ducted heating and split system air conditioning will complete your home away from home experience.

And there's Wifi for you of course if you must! (Do note that internet and phone reception in the Dandenong Ranges can be unstable and please understand we have no control over that. If you rely on wifi please bring a backup modem).

The Fernglen Spa Cottage is a self-contained unit immersed in seven acres of ferns and mountain ash forest. NOISE AND COURTESY TO NEIGHBOURS
Please ensure quiet after 10pm in consideration of other guests and neighbours. Should a complaint be received, please make sure you cease any activity causing the disturbance. Accommodation is for the use of the guests nominated in the booking only. Parties or gatherings are permitted in the dwelling only by prearrangement or if booked as such.
PARKING
Parking for two cars is available outside your cottage or lodge. To park additional vehicles please make arrangements with management.
FIREWOOD
Firewood and kindling will be provided on the balcony - you may also collect fallen kindling or firewood from the property or forest surrounding the property.
HEATING & COOLING
Please use the heating as necessary while in the house. Please do not leave the heating on while not in the house. Excessive use will lead to very high costs which may be charged to the guest via the security bond. Fans are provided, however as Mount Dandenong is generally about 5 degrees cooler than the other parts of Melbourne and as The Fernglen Forest Retreat is located in a gully with a creek running through the property, provided a further cooling effect, the property rarely gets too warm, even in the summer.
LOCKING AND KEEPING THE PROPERTY SAFE
While staying at the property, please ensure that the property is adequately always protected against theft and intrusion.
CLEANING
A standard bed and breakfast clean is provided in your price. Any excessive cleaning caused by guests will be charged to the guest via the security bond, as necessary to reinstate the home to its prior condition (e.g. leaving unwashed dishes, leaving rubbish, etc). Guests are to wash their own dishes. Some of the cottages are fitted with dishwashers.
CHECKING IN AND CHECK OUT
Check in time is from 3 pm onwards unless another time has been prearranged. Check out time is until 10 am unless another time has been prearranged. On the day of your check out please use the following checklist:
-Carry out cleaning as necessary to leave the house in a reasonably clean condition. See cleaning section for assistance.
-Turn off all lights, heating and the television

Menzies Cottage is an hour east of Melbourne & set high on a mountain-side in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. Enjoy views out to the Wellington Road farmlands & Cardinia Reservoir. On a clear day you can see Arthur’s Seat, Port Phillip & Westernport Bays. Visit nearby Puffing Billy Steam Train, go bushwalking, feed the friendly farm animals or settle-in for a lazy afternoon before watching the sun set. The cottage is fully self contained & with your own private entrance, deck & enclosed garden.

The space
One large studio-style room with private entry and exposed beams encompassing the living, dining, kitchenette (air fryer, microwave, kettle, Nespresso machine, fridge & toaster) and sleeping areas. Up a few stairs is a passage way to a private, light filled bathroom with dinner plate shower head.

Guest access
Guests can access whole space, excluding down stairs cellar (which is used by hosts for Airbnb storage).

You will have exclusive use of the BBQ, deck, outdoor firepit and fenced garden surrounding the guesthouse.

Other things to note
Please note the cottage is attached to the host’s family home - you may occasionally hear the footsteps of little people running around. We are keen to ensure privacy during your stay and will only communicate with you (if required) via message.

Due to the farm animals onsite, unfortunately this guesthouse is not pet friendly.

Relax and reconnect with nature in our lovely cottage in the woods. Minutes from Kallista and Grant's picnic grounds in the heart of the Sherbrooke forest. We offer private forest views within walking distance to the Sassafras-Monbulk hiking trail. Great spot to take time out and plan some local adventures. Perfect for couples, though we do offer a second fold-out bed for a third adult or child and can provide a single sized bed for a second child on request.

The space
Please note that the cottage is next door to a larger house in which our family resides and we usually use the carport to the right of the cottage. There is a second carport solely available to you as our guests to the left side of the cottage.

The space
After winding through majestic Mountain Ash forest, you'll arrive at our friendly, little known village of The Patch, nestled in a beautiful valley in the Dandenong Ranges.

It is here you will find The Artisan’s Cottage, aptly named, as it is also home to Penny Olive Sourdough bakery and winemaker, Tiny Block Wine.

The luxuriously appointed accommodation includes a master bedroom with a queen sized bed, a stunning ensuite bathroom and a large lounge/dining room boasting panoramic views of the garden, abundant birdlife and the hills beyond.

The kitchenette, hand crafted in local Blackwood timber, is well equipped with a bar fridge, kettle, toaster, sandwich press, and all the crockery and utensils required for a comfortable stay. Please note that there is no cooktop, oven or microwave and only basic meals can be prepared.

The lounge/dining room features a cosy wood fireplace, vintage timber furniture, record/cassette player and proudly displays local artisan craft, cabinetry, stonemasonry and artwork, many by our friends.

Our breakfast provisions are deliciously simple and of the highest quality, including our own Penny Olive sourdough bread, organic butter and organic jam, locally roasted, freshly ground coffee, a selection of pesticide free and/or organic teas and tisanes and creamy, biodynamic milk.

The Artisan’s Cottage is the perfect city getaway, the perfect place to retreat, the perfect place to rediscover nature, the bush trails, cafes and attractions of the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley…. or, the perfect place to just cosy up and stay inside.

The Bakery

A short walk through the garden leads to Penny Olive Sourdough bakery. The bakery opens to the community every Saturday morning from 9.30am to 12.30pm. We specialise in hand-made biodynamic and organic sourdough bread, pastries and a range of other delicious treats.

Please note: The bakery is closed between 24th December 2022 until 13th January 2023.

The Winery

Tiny Block is a small producer of quality wine using fruit from small, family run Victorian vineyards. The wines change yearly, depending on regional conditions. Available now, the 2021 vintage includes Heathcote Shiraz, Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a new King Valley Merlot/Barbera blend. The wine is available for purchase by guests to enjoy during their stay, or to take home.

Guest access
The Artisan's Cottage is the original section of our hill's home built in 1937.

Our guests access the cottage via their own private entrance (driveway and parking space), and have private access to the accommodation, which includes a spacious bedroom, stunning ensuite, large lounge/dining and kitchenette.

The cottage shares adjoining walls with our family home, and whilst it is completely private, you might see us in our garden, or you may hear occasional family noise.

The Artisan's Cottage is set on 3/4 acre of typically rambling Dandenong Ranges garden. Our guests have access to an undercover front verandah, large front lawn area and a gravelled area with outdoor table, chairs and a fire pit. Firewood is available for indoor and outdoor use at $25 for 20kg. This is usually enough wood for a morning, afternoon and evening for inside use in the wood fire.

Designed as a place of rest and rejuvenation, there is no television or w-fi in the cottage, although mobile reception is reliable and strong.

The bakery is open on Saturday mornings from 9.30am-12.30pm selling a range of organic and biodynamic sourdough bread, pastries, tarts, cakes and biscuits.

Other things to note
The use of candles or incense is strictly not allowed in any part of the cottage.

Smoking outdoors only - ashtray provided, please use it.

Please keep all gates closed at all times - we have roaming chickens!

Firewood is available for purchase for $25 for 20kg. This can be ordered and paid for via the AirBnB App prior to and/or during your stay

Outdoor fires are limited to the fire pit only, and must be completely extinguished.

It is extremely important to remain informed of weather conditions in the Dandenong Ranges, particularly in summer and total fire ban days - no fires allowed.

Power outages can occur in the Dandenong Ranges. Torches and lanterns are provided should one occur. In the event of a power outage, a refund is not provided.

Enduring for 154 years “Pickett’s Cottage” is the last sole surviving home from a bygone era, which gives it the honour of being the oldest residential house in the city of Knox. Built in 1868, this unique Pioneer’s Settlers Cottage has been lovingly restored, respectfully preserving its unique features including open fireplace. Located at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, within a short drive to Puffing Billy, 1000 steps & Quarry Reserve, the cottage provides a truly unique experience.

Other things to note
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Knox Historical Society’s Ray Peace said the property was believed to be built around 1868 by George Wilkes, who purchased the land from the Parish of Scoresby.

“The 249-acre allotment included the entire area between Dorset and Burke Roads, bounded by Blind Creek to the north and Burwood Highway to the south,” he said.

“The cottage was home to George Pickett and his family from 1868 on.”

Mr Pickett was born in London in 1821 and lived on the property with his wife Eliza and their nine children.

The house, located at 56 Edina Road Ferntree Gully, was originally built on a 248-acre dairy farm owned by the Pickett family. In 1955 the farm was sold and the land subdivided. Today, the cottage sits upon a 465 square metre parcel of land.

Mr Peace said George Pickett was a brickmaker by trade who chose the cottage because it was so close to the clay he needed for making bricks.

“Many brick buildings in Ferntree Gully from the 1880s, including State School no. 1307, and the Royal and Club Hotels, were built of George Pickett’s handmade bricks,” Mr Peace said.

“George Pickett senior died in 1892, but his business was maintained and expanded by his son, Alfred Pickett.”

The Pickett family was well-known in the local area with two other relatives being members of Ferntree Gully Shire Council.

Mr Pickett was a founding member of the local cricket club and in 1950 seven acres were set aside for sporting purposes on the corner of Burwood Highway and Commercial Road and named Picketts Reserve after the family.

Enjoy a relaxing retreat at our rustic one-bedroom cottage with an indoor fireplace. This little sanctuary is full of character as it was previously a chapel for local nuns that has been converted into a charming get-away.
Enjoy the peaceful towering mountain gums as you read a book on the day bed, sit by the fire, or have an outdoor bath in the garden.

For a beautiful local dinner try Citrine in Olinda.

Head to Belgrave to go for an adventure on Puffing Billy, catch a movie at the beautiful vintage cinema The Cameo or get some delicious food at Earthly Pleasures or Cognoscenti.

If it's food and wine you're feeling, the Yarra Valley Winery is only 15 minutes away and offers tours and tasting.

With plenty of options within a 8-minute drive for good take away try Basil Leaf Thai, Montrose Fish & Chips or La Lupa Romana in Montrose or Indian by Nature in Olinda.

Or have a cozy home-cooked meal in our fully equipped kitchen with the local IGA grocer also only 8 minutes away in Montrose and Olinda.

Surround yourself with nature and head off for a walk at Karwarra Australian Plant Garden, William Ricketts Sanctuary, Mount Dandenong Observatory, Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden, Cloude Hill Diggers or Alfred Nicholas Memorial Garden.

The ‘Writer’s Studio’ is a one-room retreat in the centre of the Dingleigh gardens. The antique writer’s desk looks onto the stone-paved gardens and water features. The studio includes a queen-sized bed with an original open fireplace, plus tea and coffee-making facilities with a small fridge. A shower bathroom with underfloor heating, ensures guests are comfortable through the winter months. The outdoor area includes beautiful gardens and a seating area.

Other things to note
Due to open ponds outside of the studio, it is not suitable for children under 5 years old. There are no cooking facilities in the studio.

We would like to welcome you to The Kalorama Windmill Barn. Set in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. The Barn is built as a Traditional American Style it is unique and furnished with relics of time gone by, it is comfortable, peaceful and tranquil place. Just 1hr from Melbourne. There are views of Silvan Dam which is only a 10 minute drive, Puffing Billy is within easy reach and also the famous William Ricketts Sanctuary. The many cafes, galleries and craft shops are only a short drive.

The space
The barn is full of old fashioned relics , collected over the years . This is a much loved family home : very cozy and comfortable, like a mini museum . It has 3 bedrooms 2 Queen beds and one bunk bed sleeps 6 guests in total . Please put the exact number of guests when you book , so the extra bed rooms are not locked off . If you only book for one or two guests , a couple , there will only be one bedroom left open .If you are two singles & require a second room a extra linen & cleaning charge of $60 will apply as price are set on twin share basis .

The Windmill barn is a self contained cottage : the guests have access to immediate area around the windmill barn and down the driveway area .We do live on the same property, just across the driveway in the main large house. Guest park in carport on the left hand side , in front of main house

Other things to note
As we are on tank water : please be conservative with water , especially in summer . There is fresh drinking water in the fridge provided . I will supply a continental breakfast for your stay . All linen and towels are supplied. When you leave could you please turn Heating /Cooling and lights off that would be great . Thank you
