Mariners cottage has become a well known home on the island dating back to the early 1920's. The cottage attracts several visitors and pedestrians walking by. The Cottage is one of the few on the island that will still take you back to its heritage though without depriving you of the luxuries of today. This 2nd story cottage is totally private with its own entrance and 1 covered parking space. There is one large bonus/bedroom with two queen beds adjacent to a full bath. The Bedroom overlooks the cottage courtyard. The space also offers a main living room equipped with an electric fireplace. A fully functioning kitchen with new appliances adjoins the living room. The home is fully stocked to include: dining and cookware, linens pillows and blankets, towels, iron, etc. There is an onsite washing machine and dryer free of charge. Enjoy an inviting outdoor patio with dining furniture for 4. Bicycles, water toys, and all the excursions you can imagine are available within walking distance!

The lower unit with accommodations for 4 additional guests is also available upon request if you have a larger party and would like to have both. This would include an additional complete home with kitchen, dining, living space, office, bedroom and full bath, as well as a large downstairs courtyard with hot tub. One additional parking space also included.

There is no air conditioning, so if the house is closed up in the summer months it can get quite hot, but once you open up the windows and the adorable Dutch door, a nice sea breeze keeps it very comfortable. We had a few issues with the stove and electric water kettle and the owner took care of both of those things right away."

Located two blocks from Marine Avenue (Main Street) on Balboa Island, this older cottage is steps to all of the restaurants and short walk to the bay of the famous Balboa Island Ferry. The rear unit has a closed patio that provides a spacious outdoor mix of seating. The gated patio has two Adirondack chairs for relaxing! There is also a patio table and umbrella that seats up to six people. The patio is connected to the cottage through the classic dutch doors as it blends into the living, dining and kitchen areas. The living room, kitchen, and bathroom are located on the first floor and the bedrooms are located on the upper floor.

The living room has a medium flatscreen TV so you can keep up with the game or the news. Just a few steps from the main living area, the kitchen serves as a central meeting point - which is fully stocked with cooking/dining gear and basic appliances. You can choose to cook your meal on the outdoor charcoal grill or in the kitchen!

As you continue through the house, there are private laundry facilities are conveniently located in the hallway that leads to the stairs to the bedrooms. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and TV.

PARKING: The parking for the rear unit is inside the gate. All guests are guaranteed a parking space. We do not recommend extremely large vehicles at this location. General neighborhood street parking (metered or unmetered) also in area. During the month of June 2025, we expect the parking situation to be affected by some city utility work.

If you want to visit the DISNEYLAND, our property is located just under 20 miles to the resort and it's two main parks. After a great day at the parks, you can return back to your villa, refresh, relax, and take a stroll down to the beach.

If you are interested in the Laguna Beach PAGEANT OF MASTERS during July, this is a fantastic place to stay. Lyft or Uber is the easiest way to get to the event. You can enjoy a nice glass of wine on the balcony before your ride picks you up and takes you to Laguna Beach.

Additional local attractions include Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Whale Watching (included in the FREE FUN package), Aquarium of the Pacific, South Coast Plaza, and Fashion Island.

But a trip to Balboa Island wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Balboa Fun Zone or the Peninsula, where the Ferris wheel has stood for more than 80 years, and the world famous Balboa Island Ferry. The Ferry is about 10 minute walk from the cottage.

This cottage can also be rented in conjunction with the front unit for larger families.

We do allow dogs and there is a $100 per pet fee that will be charged.

This rental is street level with a wonderful front patio perfect for grilling and relaxing on one of our Adirondack /rocking chairs. Step inside through the Dutch front door and you have a spacious living room. All 3 bedrooms have ceiling fans. This is a 3 bedroom and 1 very large bath with a large shower and double sinks. It has a galley kitchen, breakfast room and living room. Very light and bright, a perfect location to access everything on the island! Our unit sleeps up to 7 people. 3 queens, as well as one queen memory foam sleeper sofa in the living room . The owners have the upstairs for their family, but it is separate in every way. Balboa Island is the perfect beach vacation! One block either direction to water where paddle boarding is a must! The island is made for walking and biking. A short walk to the ferry takes you right to the sand where you can surf and boogie board. No need to drive at all! Everything is right here just waiting for you.

Enjoy and relax in this classic Balboa Island Beach Cottage. This rear unit of a duplex is a 2 bedroom/1 bath island cottage. This cottage will bring back memories of staying at Grandma and Grandpa's beach getaway! Good for family vacations and one of the best values on Balboa Island. As with all older homes, it is not perfect and we are making upgrades from time to time.


Located two blocks from Marine Avenue (Main Street) on Balboa Island, this older cottage is steps to all of the restaurants and short walk to the bay of the famous Balboa Island Ferry. The rear unit has a closed patio that provides a spacious outdoor mix of seating. The gated patio has two Adirondack chairs for relaxing! There is also a patio table and umbrella that seats up to six people. The patio is connected to the cottage through the classic dutch doors as it blends into the living, dining and kitchen areas. PARKING: The parking for the rear unit is inside the gate. All guests are guaranteed a parking space. We do not recommend extremely large vehicles at this location. General neighborhood street parking (metered or unmetered) also in area. During the month of June 2025, we expect the parking situation to be affected by some city utility work.

If you want to visit the DISNEYLAND, our property is located just under 20 miles to the resort and it's two main parks. After a great day at the parks, you can return back to your villa, refresh, relax, and take a stroll down to the beach.


If you are interested in the Laguna Beach PAGEANT OF MASTERS during July, this is a fantastic place to stay. Lyft or Uber is the easiest way to get to the event. You can enjoy a nice glass of wine on the balcony before your ride picks you up and takes you to Laguna Beach.


Additional local attractions include Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Whale Watching (included in the FREE FUN package), Aquarium of the Pacific, South Coast Plaza, and Fashion Island.


But a trip to Balboa Island wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Balboa Fun Zone or the Peninsula, where the Ferris wheel has stood for more than 80 years, and the world famous Balboa Island Ferry. The Ferry is about 10 minute walk from the cottage.

Our secret recipe: one part Crystal Cove Cottages (the ones in Laguna Beach that you can rarely get a reservation); add in some woodsy down-home charm of the log cabins found in Big Bear / Lake Arrowhead / Blue Jay; and sprinkle in a few modern-day touches including central heat and A/C, flat screen TV w/ cable / DVR / Apple TV, a washer & dryer, dish-washer, outdoor gas BBQ, plus many other standard appliances (vintage gas stove, old-style refrigerator with meat-locker handle, coffee maker, toaster, microwave), creating one very unique beach cottage experience that would be near-difficult to replicate in SoCal.

Cottage owned by Jack Townley from April 1940 to March 1950. Jack, a well-known Hollywood screenwriter, penned over 100 films (from 1926 - 1957), including greats such as: "The Avenger" (1931), "Strange People" (1933), "The Plot Thickens" with Jackie Gleason (1936), "Rosie the Riveter" (1944), "Jamboree" (1944) and "The Yellow Rose of Texas" (1944). Jack also wrote "The Abbott and Costello Show" (1951-1954) before passing away (Oct. 1960) at the age of 64.

It's the whole house, a 1955 Balboa Island 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom cottage with front patio, private inside courtyard with gas BBQ and attached garage with shared washer/dryer. (Please note: there is one back unit above the garage that has a separate entrance and long-term lease tenants).

Other things to note
The house is just a 1-2 minute walk to the island's beaches and Newport Harbor and 5-6 minute walk to the ferry to the Balboa Peninsula. Bike, SUP and kayak rentals are less than a block away. Note street sweeping signs.

The space
This is a great home for two couples to share. It's a comfortable, quiet neighborhood so if your touring California and need to rest after a long day, then this is the house for you!
We are only 25 minutes from Disneyland and only 1 hour from Los Angeles & 1 hour from San Diego.
We have great golf courses nearby, like Pelican Hill and Newport Beach Country Club.
We are minutes away from Fashion Island and Lido Marina, two upscale shopping centers.
Our cottage home is within walking distance to Marine Ave.
We are also within walking distance to the Balboa ferry. A ferry ride to the Newport Peninsula takes you to great surfing beaches, bars and restaurants.
Our closest airport, Santa Ana's, John Wayne Airport, is only 15 minutes away. This makes it easy to get in and out of Orange County.

Guest access
Our front and back units are rented as one home. Both units have separate entrances, so we provide guests with two sets of keys. We rent our entire home to our guests. The home has a garage that is suitable for one vehicle or for two small vehicles. The Check-in instructions will be found in your itinerary email, sent 3 days before arrival.

Other things to note
Balboa Island has 100 year old, historical cottages that make it so unique and charming. Walking the small streets and viewing these homes can be fun in itself.
We love our neighborhood. We are next to the best restaurants, the best shopping, incredible golf courses, and the most pristine coastline. People travel here because it offers the best of Southern California! If you want a relaxing, quiet space, then this is a home for you.

Beautifully restored 1930'a Serena and Lilly beach cottage. If you enjoy boat rides BBQ's and sand on your feet all day, then you've just stepped into the coziest of beach cottages on Balboa Island. Our home sleeps up to 8 guests. The house is two houses down from the Newport Beach Bay, where you can see sail boats passing by from the front patio as you sip your favorite beverage. Head down to Marine Ave and hit the shops and restaurants

The space
Our remodeled beach cottage has 4 bedrooms and two- and one-half baths. The downstairs has three bedrooms. Bed one, is a Queen bed with bathroom and two closets along with a vanity make up mirror. Bedroom two has a queen bed bathroom and shower with toilet. Bedroom three has 4 bunk beds and a small sink. The room is great for children as it feels as if you are in a sailboat with its own porthole windows! The last bedroom four, is the Primary private suite. It's outside the back kitchen door above the garage. It has its own king size bed, bathtub/shower, vanity make-up mirror and walk in closet.

Guest access
To access the property, you enter from the back kitchen door. A combination lock code will be provided to enter the house. A key is provided for the front door for access during your stay. The front patio has seating around the fire table and an outdoor dining table for 10. The back patio has seating for 5 and a BBQ. From the front patio you can see sailboats passing by while you sip on your favorite beverages. There is also an outdoor shower, SUPs, Beach Cruisers and a golf cart. The golf cart is available for rental. The beach is two houses down from the sand. Towels, umbrellas and beach chairs are available for use at no extra charge.

Other things to note
Pet's are allowed up to two. We do have beach chairs, towels, SUPs, and Umbrellas for your use. We ask that you please wash them off with fresh water or, prior to bringing them back to the home rinse the sand off on the beach in the bay. House does have an outdoor shower on the side yard, with hot water. There are 4 beach cruisers that also may be used, please lock them up to prevent theft. please remove any pet feces prior to your departure if any. Thank you and we hope you love your stay with us.
