I loved staying here and it was very comfortable. Just a small note that is NOT a negative: There's no TV (yet?), but we brought an iPad so that worked totally fine with the wifi. This would totally not stop me from coming here again and recommending it to others. There was ONE important missing item in the kitchen that's a good note for the owners: There's no dish I could use to bake in the microwave/convection oven combo (I don't think the regular Ikea plates would survive at 200C in the oven for long). That definitely caused us to change our dinner plans because we were planning on roasting some lamb. Anyway, I would totally stay here again, it was beautiful and comfortable."

Stay in our wonderful cabin by the Eyafjordur bay. This newly built wooden cabin has all the comforts of home, plus a hot tub under the Northern Lights and front row seats to the Midnight Sun! Daytrips include whale watching and Mývatn lava fields.

The space
There are two bedrooms with two beds in each and a spare cot. In the living room there is sofa which can be made into a double bed. A well planned kitchen area with fridge and a freezer as well as dish washer. Large windows with stunning views of the fjord and mountains. The bathroom is new with blue mosaic. TV and Wi fi access is available.

Guest access
A large wooden deck surrounds the house, from which there is a superb view of the Midnight Sun. There is free access to the outdoor hot tub, or heitur pottur, on the deck right outside the door, under the stars and the Northern Lights. BBQ grill is available.

Other things to note
There is easy wheelchair access from the car onto the deck and into the house. The car can be parked right outside the house.

The cottage is located in the heart of Vík in Mýrdalur.
The cottage was originally built in 1918 but has now been fully renovated and accomodates up to 4 persons.
A great place to stay for a few days while travelling the southern part of Iceland.

The space
Our cottage accommodates 2 adults in a bedroom and other 2 on a sleeping loft. The bedroom has a very comfy double bed, while the sleeping loft comes with comfy twin beds. Linen and towels are included in the rent.

The small kitchen is fully equipped for our guests (microwave instead of a regular oven, though). The shower is in the restroom.

Free parking is in front of the house.

Within a 5 minute walking distance there are several restauraunts, a swimming pool, grocery store, liquer store, a bank and other services.

The location of the house is ideal should you wish to explore the nature of the surrounding area. You can go on day trips from Vík to places like Jokulsarlon, Skaftafell, Dyrholaey, Myrdalsjokull, Solheimajokull, Seljalandsfoss, Skogafoss, Thorsmork, Vestmannaeyjar and other places in the south part of Iceland. The host is delighted to assist guests with further information about things to do and see during your stay.

From the house there is a magnificent view. In the neighborhood there are sheep and horses and a great bird life. Þorlaugargerði was a farmhouse. Pleasant hiking trails are in the neighborhood.

The Lake House is part of Hvammsvik Nature Resort & Hot Springs, a gated 1200 acre estate along the coast enjoying spectacular nature and views, only 40 min away from Reykjavik. It's a magical place where you become one with nature in a rustic yet luxurious lodge with top quality furniture and art and your own hot spring, fishing lake and close to many amazing sights like the Golden Circle, Glymur waterfall & hiking paths. On site you will find the renowned Hvammsvík Hot Springs, Bistro & Bar.

The space
The Lake House was completely renovated in the 2018 and is part of Hvammsvik Nature Resort & Hot Springs.
It has an exceptional panoramic view overlooking a lake and the Whale Fjord bay. It's a rustic but luxurious lodge with all the modern and updated appliances. The floor plan is open with a new kitchen that opens up to the dining area and living room. The open floor plan with windows on all sides highlight the amazing views from all angels. The lodge has two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The Lodge is ideal for a family or two couples. The Lodge is full of original Icelandic art by many of Iceland's most promising artists however ultimately its all about the surrounding mountains, the ocean and becoming one with nature. Starting in September you can see some of the most incredible northern lights covering the sky with their magic. Since its part of a private estate you can walk around the property for hours and in the surrounding mountains in complete privacy simply enjoying the peacefulness, the ocean and the mountains.
The Newly opened Hot Springs on the estate where you can enjoy eight hot springs that linger on the edge of the ocean. At the hot springs you can also enjoy great small dishes and a delicious fish soup from our bistro, Stormur.
Hvammsvik Estate consists of several old farm buildings and a large barn that have been newly renovated to meet all modern needs while still keeping the integrity and rustic charm of its origin. One of the unique elements of Hvammsvik Estate is that it is entirely self sufficient both for its hot and cold water both of which are sourced within the Estate. There is a Geothermal hot spring at the oceans edge which is available to our guests and the same well provides all the hot water for the property. There are over 30 different types of birds in and around Hvammsvik. Wild sheep roam around and if you are lucky you can spot the Arctic Fox roaming around. The Arctic Fox is a small and completely harmless Fox that changes colors with the seasons. There are also a lot of mussels around the islands on the property that are accessible in low tide and are delicious to cook when appropriate.

Hvammsvik is a historical landmark that was first discovered by the Vikings
1000 years ago as is recorded in Landnáma, the Icelandic book of settlers
dating back to the 11th century. No wonder they choose Hvammur given it's incredible landscape, natural harbor, geothermal hot spring and
wildlife. The Vikings are not the only ones who fell for the natural
beauty of Hvammsvik. Several scenes in Game of Thrones where also shot on the property highlighting the incredible landscape all around the Fjord.
During World War II Hvammsvik was taken over by the allied forces as
their Naval Headquarters in Iceland. At its peak there where almost
40.000 soldiers in Whale Fjord and over 200 ships. During the War
Hvammsvik was code named "Falcon Crest" and "Falcon Beach" in order not to reveal its true location hence the name of one of our Lodges. When
Churchill came to Iceland on August 16th 1941 he is said to have met with
F.D Roosevelt Junior in the Lodge on the top of the hill which at the
time was the Naval Communication center for all the ships in Whale
Fjord.
Along with Icelandic tradition Hvammsvik has its share of Trolls and
Elf stories. Many whom are said to be residing in famous rocks and the
hillsides of the property. One of the best know Elf "castle" in Iceland
is "Steðji" or Staupasteinn. There is also said to be an Elf Church and
Elf Queen residing in the hill side right next to the Lodges so dont be
surprised if you witness outer worldly creatures of all sizes at dawn.

Guest access
The renovated Lake House is entirely private for our guests. Our guests are welcome to explore around the entire Estate and its surroundings. You can even walk onto Hvammshofdi and island connected to the land in low tide. Just be careful not to get caught by the high tide as you might become Robinson Crusoe for 6 hours until the low tide allows you access back to shore again :) There is also a small lake on the property full of rainbow trout that you are welcome to fish and enjoy. The Newly opened Hot Springs on the estate where you can enjoy eight hot springs that linger on the edge of the ocean. At the hot springs you can also enjoy great small dishes and a delicious fish soup from our bistro, Stormur.

Other things to note
There are twelve houses/lodges on the property, The Hilltop House, The Farm House, The Club House, The Lake House and our Artist Lodges as well as The Barn which is a shared space for our guests to enjoy. The Estate is open and we encourage everybody to simply walk around and explore as one of Iceland's signatures is the ever changing landscape given the extreme elements of our nature. We also highly recommend that our guests visit the recently opened Hvammsvik Hot Springs on the estate where you can enjoy eight hot springs that linger on the edge of the ocean. At the hot springs you can also enjoy great small dishes and a delicious fish soup from our bistro, Stormur.
