The breakfast options at the hotel were great, annd there was even a juice station where you could make your own juice each morning, although towards the end of our stay it seemed to get quite busy and slightly understaffed. Dinner was great and the setting really was exceptional. It did feel slightly repetitive after several nights, particularly the options on the BBQ, although by the food served was delicious. Staff at the hotel were friendly and attentive, the only downside was the service at the pool and beach which was slow, and the pizzeria was terribly staffed and unorganised. The pizza however was great. The gym at the hotel does not feel like a five star. It is tired and doesn’t feel clean. Every morning we had to ask for the air conditioning to be turned on which wasn’t ideal for a gym that’s supposed to be 24 hour. There was hardly any mats and the ones that were these were dirty and worn. Overall the hotel and location were great. "

- "The hotel was lovely - super-clean, with unmistakeable Mediterranean vibe. Breakfast excellent, good quality and lots of choice. The pool area was very clean and pleasant, too, and it is only a 3-min walk to the beach so it was perfectly possible to lie down by the pool an occasionally walk down for a dip in the sea. What surprised us was that the restaurant only opened for light dishes at lunchtime, no bar, no dinner , however the receptionist talked us through the map to point out the nearest options. The area is generally very quiet during the day, even in the town centre we only found a couple of cafes open in the afternoon. Portoscuso doesn't seem popular with foreign visitors - but the beach was full of Italians, the staff at shops and restaurants didn't speak much English but were warm and welcoming, we always figured it out somehow. Although the hotel is off the beaten track, it is well worth the drive because it is in a beautiful location on a headland, with wonderful views of the coastline. All the staff were very friendly; nothing was too much trouble and always a smile whatever the time of day! I asked if they could provide a few more hangers and whether I needed to worry about any mosquitoes; when we returned to our room later more hangers were in the wardrobe and an electric mosquito (with tablets) had been provided. When the restaurant was busy the service was slightly slower but this didn't bother us at all, especially when you know meals are cooked to order so will take time to prepare. The room was classic and quite minimal but the bed was very comfortable and one of the best we've experienced. - "Not worth the money. While it is located on a beautiful beach, the hotel has no value for money. The food is horrible and the staff treats you as if you're at a child's birthday party. If you want to relax, forget it, the hotel has high volume music on the beach all day long and the staff engaged to entertain ask you to join some kind of activity every 10 mins. From Karaoke to other games on the beach all day long - and we chose this place to stay in some quiet since it is an adults only hotel. Weird stuff starts immediately from check in. They ask you to send them by email your booking confirmation while they explain that the air conditioning in the room will be controlled by reception, although there are controls in the room. Which have been disabled. So basically, you need to contact reception all the time to increase/decrease temperature to increase/decrease fan speed etc. It's not worth the money. "

A beach close by, with sunbeds for hotel guests. Nicer beaches close by if you have a car. Pool was big with lots of sunbeds and a fantastic view over the gardens and the tower at the beach. Good breakfast with plenty to choose from, such as freshly pressed orange juice , omelettes and a lot of different pastries/cakes. A bit noisy though, and some things lacking when we arrived later. There were either a dinner buffet or an a la carte restaurant but didn’t try any of them. Walking distance to a couple of other restaurants but not so many options in the area as we thought it would be. There were free WiFi in public areas but not automatically in the room, good idea with a digital detox, but a bit unpractical. It can easily be arranged though if you ask for it in the reception. Definitely recommend this resort if you’re looking for a relaxing holiday. "

Phenomenally well-located at the end of the main stretch in the port area, easy walk to all the great restaurants and gorgeous back/side streets, as well as views onto the port and a grocery store just a block or two away. The room had everything we needed - - was clean, simple, and well appointed, and the breakfast which was included was the perfect start to our day. Also, probably most important, the staff was phenomenal, and extremely helpful with their time and local insights. We actually had trouble with our rental car while there and the staff went out of their way to make calls on our behalf and track down a local mechanic (on a weekend no less), speak with representatives at the rental agency to discuss the problem, and make sure our downtime was limited and we were treated fairly overall. Forever grateful for their efforts and going above and beyond (for someone who was a guest for only two nights), thanks so much! Fully recommend, beautiful town and island, perfect place to call home while there."

Hence it is either your wife drying her hair, or you (or your kids) watching TV - a huge source of risk to the vacation idilly. "

- "The Alma is in a great location, despite very few amenities. Beach is wonderful and an easy walk. Our stay was spoiled by apalling and loud music from the bar but blasted over the whole site - which consisted mainly of out of key solo singing and guitar over poor Pink Floyd backing tracks from about 6.00pm onwards, followed by dreadful karaoke from 9.00 to midnight. Restaurant staff unwilling to raise blinds so meals were taken in a very bust dining room in claustrophobic gloom. Otherwise we had a great stay!"
